S8 & S8 Plus CHOETECH HDMI/USB-C compatible MHL type CABLE? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Accessories

While browsing the Amazon cables section I noticed this...
Are we getting direct Hdmi MHL type connections back???
The specs and descriptions on this wire say so. That would be awesome.
I'm picking one up and I'll let you know once my S8 Plus arrives...
Edit:

Here are the ones I've tested to work so far with my s8+.

Yeah sweet keep us posted plz

Great find! Let us know...

I don't think it's called MHL anymore but the Global S8 specs page does show that it supports DisplayPort over USB-C and "video out when connecting via HDMI Adapter".

Check this video.

I figured saying MHL type was easier to understand since most Galaxy users had one of those cables to mirror the phones display back in the day.
I put the order in for the cable already and it should arrive before the phone but maybe we'll get lucky and all get S8 shipped notifications tomorrow morning... Wishful thinking.

I ended up ordering the cable from Amazon as well since my sister wanted one to hook up to her 4ktv. The one from Amazon was delivered last night. Now just the waiting game for my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus to arrive...
Here's the Amazon link if anyone preferred ordering from there.

Does the usb port on the hubs work? Do they all perform the same? Thanks

Do all output [email protected]? Also, is there any way to trigger DeX mode?

so there is no need to connect to any power, just direct usb c to hdmi??

Rocketfish HDMI/USB-C adapter is a failure. No output at all, except you see a toast pop up telling you an HDMI cable was plugged in.

USB host/HID interface

Here is a companion device for those already using the the Webtop hack.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199443
It's the same OTG USB hub hack used with the Atrix, just wanted to share my setup and testing. So far it works excellent.
Right now, I have a USB keyboard and mouse, a FAT32 flashdrive, and a FAT32 external HDD all hooked up the the hub, and I'm watching a movie
off the HDD.
The basic theory of operation is that in micro usb connectors there is a fifth pin, actually the 4th over in a schematic. That pin is actually the ID pin, when its state changes it indicates to the phone that it USB mode is changing. In our case, we ground it, telling the phone to go into host mode. Now because the phone cant supply power to the USB device, we have the red jumper wire on the hub itself. This is effectively bridging the +5 from the power supply to the phone.
It should be noted that as of this post, i have only tested FAT32 formatted drives with this setup.
I'm working with a friend at the moment on an NTFS module, so the Photon can utilize NTFS drives.
Now, my setup looks a bit off because my connectors are on order and the one in the pictures, is one I cut out of a motorola cable. So it doesn't look pretty, but works great.

What type of usb hub can I use? does it have to have usb 2.0 or 3.1? Does it have to have ac adapter? Can I use a usb host cable otg instead of a micro usb and does it make a difference?

It can be any powered hub, if you plan to use an external HDD with it you should make sure the power supply for the hub is at least 2 amps. For now its only USB 2.0, USB 3 isnt compatible. I modified a stock USB micro cable, but you can but a OTG cable that will work with this setup. Like the link below, that is a OTG adapter. Also, the hub would need a few modifications, like i was talking about at the top.

Connected a phat32 hdd and mouse and keyboard non seem to work. My set up is usb to otg micro and judging from my soldering skills you can clearly see I added a white cable to jump from power to usb.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
You may want to check your OTG cable. If its not set up properly it will not function. The un-used pin in the micro connector must be grounded. Ive noticed not all the cables you can buy are quite right. Thats why i build my own. I hope to get up rev 2 tomorrow...a bit more in depth. Maybe i can shed some more light on the issue...

Thanks for looking into this.
So, once you've mod a USB hub, are you using a cable that is <male micro USB to female USB A>?
I've not seen that before. Usually, USB cables that have a micro USB on one end will have a male USB A on the other, not a female. I did a quick search and couldn't really find any <male micro USB to female USB A> cables. I also didn't see any female A to female A cables that would allow for the same thing.
Please elaborate, thanks.
Edit: oh, maybe you use a USB 2.0 A to Micro B Female / Male Adaptor?
You need to buy some from amazon search micro usb to usb female. Or ever female usb to female usb they sell for $2 plus shipping. I bought otg cable didn't make a difference had to take it apart as well.

Just a heads up you need to connect your usb power adapter to the red usb from the hub then your otg and phone to the black and keyboard/mouse infra-red or 2.4 ghz stuff to the female usb adapters. Remember red goes to power!
I went back and forth trying to figure it out when all i had to do was push power to red. Duh!!

Ok, I was confused by what jguevara wrote. jguevara, could you tell me if I got this right?
1) Buy this OTG "cable" - it's really just a adapter:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/micro-usb-on-the-go-host-otg-adapter-pair-50774
2) You might also want a hub for powering USB devices
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/cable-style-dual-power-1000ma-usb-2-0-4-port-hub-13526#open full view
The OTG adapter already does the "4th pin to ground" thing described by the OP, so using the adapter on the Photon makes the phone go into USB Host mode.
The phone, acting as host, won't have enough power via the USB port to power many USB devices, like portable hard drives. So that's why you need a powered USB hub. The hub in the link has an extra red USB connector. You can use the Motorola USB power adapter(the one that came with your phone) as a power source for the hub.
Also, I don't think this setup will charge your phone. It will charge devices connected to the other end of the USB HUB, but not your phone, correct? So, if you're using this setup to transfer files from one portable hard drive to another portable hard drive, with the phone acting as the USB host for the transfer, you'll be using up battery power the whole time it's transferring.
Do I have that right? jguevara?

htc evo view and mhl adapters

hey guys i was wondering if mhl adapters will work with view and if yes will something like the one below work with it ? it says flyer is supported .

mhl adapter seems like too much cabling
better to just get a cord that goes directly from the tablet to the hdmi slot

MHL is not compatible with HDMI. Unless you have one of the 3 TVs on the market with built-in MHL, you need the box. blame Apple.

There is no such thing AFAIK.
All microUSB ports require MHL adapter for HDMI.
I'd be happy to learn that I am wrong on this issue.
I just got my MHL adapter from monoprice.com in the mail today and I have to say this setup is pretty nice. They have the adapter for $10 and you can also get the external battery that I have pictured here for another $13. It goes nicely with the adapter since it does need to be powered and of course is a nice extra micro usb charger to have when away from home.

The external battery is nice. I did plug it into my View to make sure it would work and it does, but I have yet to actually try to transfer all of the battery life over to the View. Given it is 2800 mAh it should charge the View to about 70% power. The main reason I got it was just so when you hook up the MHL adapter I wouldn't have to have another wire running out of it for a charger and I can also use it with my battery sucking 4g Droid Charge. I will say I watched 3movies yesterday before it died so it will power the MHL for around 5-6 hours.
I've got this one when it was selling for $13.75. Now he raised the price to$19.

It works, but WARNING:
it is listed as compatible for View. However, View power adapter doesn't fit. I had to buy a car adapter for View (well, I wanted it anyway), then use AC/DC converter and standard microUSB to USB cord.
I purchased the HTC M500 MHL HDMI ADAPTER today and it comes with 3 plugs. One for power and the second for the HDMI cable. The third is round like an ear phone plug but not marked. Anyone know what it is
Does anyone know of a compatible Micro USB AC power adapter to use with an MHL/HDMI adapter? I don't have any Micro USB power adapters around and need to order one. Does the voltage/current output matter for this?

Any USB power adapter will work . 5V @ 500ma minimum which is most.
You can power it from your PC with a micro USB cable also.

not possible (without a lot of equiomnt)
RCA = analog
HDMI = digital
so you would have to use a converter

MHL was designed as a alternative to HDMI and USB. There are actually two TVs on the market that can take a direct MHL cable. LOL
The one I got works fine. Here is an HDMI to RCA converter:

is there a trick to make hdmi work. I have bought 2 adapters and both don't work. 1 was listed in this thread as working. Plug in to tv and nothing. Even when playing a video, nothing.

Anybody have one that works well? I have been looking for one online that i can hook a usb thumb drive to for file transfer, and hooking a usb hub for a mouse and keyboard. Does this tab even have usb host capabilities? Which ones are compatible with our device?

I am using the Samsung USB adapter with a belkin 4 port mini hub. I have connected a keyboard, mouse and 16GB flash drive simutaneously, it all works great.
Seen them for sale at Best Buy the other day. Need to pick me one up.

I have the USB one in your Amazon link. I can play a movie, and open files from a thumb drive. Once plugged in, it opens like it's a folder on the drive.
I also bought another one from Amazon that has a short piece of flexible cable, so that I don't have the huge hemorage hanging from the side. It works too, but the connector cover came off the connector, so I glued it. It was less than $10, but I don't have a link right now for it.
I can also confirm (though probably not a surprise) that a USB HD does not work. The message says "High powered USB device" and won't connect. So you'd need a powered hub for that.
I bought such a cable off ebay for 7 dollars shipped
Works exactly as expected.

Just bought a galaxy tab 2.
I am very new to this tablet, its my first android tab.
Well i want to use it as usb host primary for usb 3g stick for gprs/ 3g, will this accesory work or what else more i need for this stick to work. ?
Looking at getting a GT-P3113 this weekend and need to have the USB connection to external HD as well but do not see the needed 30 pin connector in photos of the tab online to make the Samsung USB connection kit to work.
Does the GT-P3113 at Best Buy/Staples have this connection setting.
Thanks!
Just got mine today. USB thumb drive works, and files are readable. My iMac mouse and keyboard don't work. I believe I need to get a AC adapter for my USB hub and then route them through that. As stated earlier in the thread I believe high powered devices need to be plugged into a usb hub that is connected to a power source, before plugging it into the adapter. This is an Android OS issue I believe.

Bought one today. Some things work.
Working so far:
Digital camera, It works well. As soon as I plugged it in gallery opened and it allowed me to import all of the images off the camera to my tab.
USB wireless keyboard. Works pretty good. Just a generic keyboard.
USB 2GB memory stick (Sandisk Cruzer) I used Chainfire's stickmount for this.
USB wired mouse. (Older Logitech optical) Freaking this is cool as hell!
USB wireless mouse (Logitech MX Revolution)
Not working:

Keep in mind that I'm running AOPK 37 and the dist's v2 kernel ( link )
Edit: In action! -->

I picked up the set from Amazon. Should arrive on Tuesday. I have a self powered Toshiba portable drive I hope to use with it. Works fine with my Asus Prime so hoping it works with the Galaxy 7" Tab 2 as well.
Please someone tell me if this adapter works for 3g dongle or not......???

As others have said, what is a 3G dongle?
As far as OTG cables, I got this combo (along with a few other cables from that seller). The OTG cable works fine, as do the rest of the cables I got. The fit is a little bit more snug then the cable that came with my tablet, but everything works great and the quality is very good as well for eBay cables from China.

Used them before in places. I wouldn't mind having one but my ATT bill is quite high enough.

I just found out that note 3 uses a USB 3.0, is there any existing OTG cable for it?
thanks in advance!:fingers-crossed:

It supports USB2 as well (the connector works with both) so your existing OTG cable will still work.

hi, Thanks for the reply
usb 3.0 and 2.0 has different plugs, 3.0 is bigger than 2.0, so I would need to look for an adapter for my old OTG cable to work with note 3?
thanks

No, not at all. Look carefully at the USB 3 plug - yes it's bigger but it also contains a USB2 shaped plug. USB2 cables plug into that as per normal. Think of it as USB2 with extra pins to the side of it - that's also why it has an odd shape.

It may work .. it will plug in but may not work and the note 3 is the first Android with usb3.0 plug so there may be a wait for the cable as the mhl cable May not work either have to wait and see

USB 3 has the 2 port cable so one port in and one port out... that is why it has the smoking fast speeds. dedicated I/O
With Note 3's OTG able to uses full speed of USB 3.0?
If you own any 3.0 western digital hard drives...you will be able to use those cords
I can confirm regular USB OTG cables work, as do MHL cables (tried Samsung MHL 2.0 cable and Smart Dock, both work).
Good news! Thank you very much!!
I found some one whos tested the phone's usb capabilities: :good::good::victory:

Just ordered the OTG and the MHL 2.0 cables from Samsung directly. Coupon code rv18623 saved me 50% so I got both for 36.86 including tax and shipping and don't have to worry about fake products.
Of course next week they'll probably release USB 3.0 versions...
I am using this one.
it's cool, where to buy it? How much?

LG V60 desktop mode?

Has anyone tried the desktop mode on the V60, or at least confirm that it has one? I've seen demonstrations on the V50 when it got the Android 10 update and that would do me.

Thanks so much for that, I've asked in a few places and this is the first answer I've had. I guessed a desktop mode would have there but you never know.
The V60 looks like a good replacement for my Note9 later in the year. I just need to be able to buy one in the UK.

It's the same as the V50 & G8X, so a proper desktop mode but not as advanced as DeX. I have a NexDock 2 and use it with Samsung DeX and Huawei Easy Projection all the time. Looking at videos of LGs desktop mode it will do a reasonable job, which is all I need. Once Linux on DeX went away and Samsung dropped the 3.5mm headphone port I realised that I needed something different for my next device.
Can someone give a short how to?
I used a USB-c hub that has HDMI. I connected the hub to the USB-c port, and the monitor the the HDMI. It does not work with the magnetic port, it seems. (Though the magnetic port does support connecting to a computer with USB). You get a desktop, and can use the phone itself as a trackpad. If the hub has power in, you can keep the phone powered.
It is really too bad about the magnetic port, since I like to keep the phone in the dual case, and am afraid that too much in and out of the case will damage the UCR port of the phone...

So I have the same concern and never take mine out of the dual screen case. Could it be the cable used doesn't have all the pins needed internally and this may work? I can't see how it would work to a computer and not a TV.

never mind. USB-C is 22 active pins. That explains why the 12 pin magnetic connector doesn't work for HDMI.
