motherboard replacement - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

dont ask me how but today i burned my internal memory chip in the motherboard, it was real hot like 140-160 degrees F for 15 mins or so
now i need to replace the motherboard and the thing is my phone is h960ay model, its not a common model and its hard to find motherboards for this model. i found some motherboards of the same phone but in a different model
so can i fit not the same model motherboard to my h960ay? (H901 or VS990 motherboard to h960ay?)

yes you can fit all V10 variants motherboard into your V10 chassis. that is not a problem.

Does the logic board have your IMEI/ESN on it? I was thinking about this the other day when I was looking for one for a different phone. And if so that could give you a issue with your carrier unless it's unlocked.
Just a thought.

There are V10 unlocked motherboards shipped from China available on eBay.com and aliexpress. They are cheaper on aliexpress. Mine is bricked too after a marshmallow update for h901. My v10 is h901 with vs990 motherboard, which I didn't know about till after it bricked. I am considering buying one of those unlocked motherboards too. I am waiting for someone to confirm if it's advisable buying from these sellers and whether they would directly work after fitting them in my phone chassis without any further updates or tweaks.

Can I replace a single-sim model of a motherboard with a two-sim variant motherboard?

Yes you can

i've just got my motherboard replaced at a non-LG repair shop yesterday and when i got home i realized the memory was actually new - previously i was on android nougat - now this is android oreo and there is no IMEI on it. *#06# shows 2 line of 0 (Dual SIM). when i try to get it to upgrade via LG Bridge, i think it failed due to no valid IMEI and when i tried to do OTA, it says my phone is not activated.
I've tried entering my previous IMEI via hidden menu, and i got the LG bridge to recognize the device and found the nougat update but after it tries to download and update the phone, it failed (at 1%). Does anyone have a solution on how i can get things back together to update back to Nougat?
Thanks!

There's no Oreo for LG V10, so probably you are saying you are on Marshmallow and now you are on Nougat.
And if there's no IMEI for sure the motherboard is refurbished and soon you will have problems with it, almost every person who buy "new" motherboards or replace them with ebay ones someday will get again bootloops and so on.
use UPPERCUT to try reflash the phone firmware, if this doesnt work then you are screwed.

Thanks, you are right, Marshmallow rom - Android 6. The shop said the board is "new"... not sure if it's refurbished or not, let me give it a try and see where it'll get me, thanks shinning man!

install CPU Temp app or something that can monitorize your cpu temperature and be careful, if they dont go higher than 42/45 then you are good.

I changed my Lg V10 motherboard, not my SIM card is not working in the phone. I checked the IMEI number I get 0-04. This was bought from aliexpress can anything be done to rectify this SIM card issue?

So you reckon getting mainboards replaced officially by LG should be exempted from the bootloop issue am I understanding this correct?

is not 100% guarantee but a motherboard replaced by LG is more secure to not have bootloop than the ebay sold ones.
Strange is my V10 is still alive after 2 years and 3 months, its my daily driver and i use and abuse from it it never die, im feeling lucky in this wole story.

[Q] Broke my phone (Lumia 710)

I have a question.
I just broke my phone following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1702815
I followed every step in this thread, but when I want to power up my phone it doesn't do anything
No vibration, nothing. Volume+ and power button also don't work..
I think I broke my phone...
Is there any way to make my phone work again?
PLEASE HELP!!!
I think you're phone is permanently bricked . You might be able to recover it using ATF (Advance Turbo Flasher) but that requires buying special hardware and soldering it to your mainboard, and I'm pretty sure it would be expensive. If you're still under warranty, you might be able to have it replaced by Nokia.

Maybe it's not to late, bozzy.
You can see if you have warranty just by checking your imei number, if yes just bring it to an ncs point.
Just read this and check your emei on the bottom of the page.
http://www.nokia.com/nl-nl/support/online-repair/
Goodluck
Yeah, I think the warranty might still work. I myself bought my phone from eBay, and I sent it in for repair because the battery cover was getting loose. It hasn't arrived at Nokia's Repair Center yet, but they checked the warranty from the IMEI number and sent me a prepaid shipping label so it looks like they'll accept it.
Mine still had the Qualcomm bootloader when I sent it so I'm not sure if they'll actually repair it, but since yours doesn't boot at all, I'm guessing they'll just flash back to stock without even checking to see if you rooted it or anything. They are supposed to be getting mine on Monday, so I guess I'll post back if they refuse to repair it because the bootloader is modified or because I'm not the original owner.

P769 System or partitions damaged

Hi guys, first of all, sorry for my english, i hope you understand me.
My phone doesnt turn on at all after i removed the battery because it was frozen after installing this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468880. it even doesnt charge.
I already tried all fllashing guides with no success, actually i got enter in fastboot mode and sw upgrade mode, but after 1 or a bit more minute it turns off.
I tried to flash the x-loader and u-boot using the lelus script, but i get the errors shown in the pictures.

The "Remote Partition doesn't exist" error in the second output log that you posted, indicates that you have a hardware problem/fried Emmc. I don't know of any solution to fix that other than, a warrant claim through LG or possibly having it repaired at a service center with an Octopus Box, which does support the LG L9.

Ok, so now my phone is a stone, warrant claim will not work for me. I am thinking on buying a phone for replacement on ebay and change the board, that should bring my phone alive again isnt ? My phone also was sim unlocked, if the board of the phone replacement also is unlocked, it will on my phone ?
Do you guys know if the board of the P769 is compatible with other L9 models ?

There are so many L9 variants... If your going to purchase a device and disassemble it, then swap parts into you existing phone, I would only recommend trying to replace the mother board from an exact same model, P769. It's definitely possible that the MS769 (metropcs version) would work, as it's identically the same phone.
If the new phone is SIM unlocked, then Yes... Technically after repairing your L9, it should be SIM unlocked as well.
Out of curiosity... If your buying a new/used, SIM unlocked L9 off of eBay or swappa, then why not just use that new phone, instead of tearing it down and your old L9 down and swapping/replacing the mother boards?

Lol.. OK, now that makes sense. I was just curious and thought I'd ask. I haven't looked, but it seems like you could get them pretty cheap in that condition... Especially since a new one or fully working used one, go for a decent price to begin with.
If your looking at them on eBay you might want to also check out Swappa. There's a link to it up above in the XDA header and a lot of the devices on there are from different android forums members.

Original Motherboard

I need to buy a new motherboard for my LG G3 D855 because I "fried" my old one trying to fix wifi problems.
Does anybody know some place for extra parts, that isn't too expensive or oficially from LG? Thank you.

Honestly, you're better off just buying a new phone. Logic boards are usually $100 and over and it's not guaranteed that the board won't have issues.
You can try looking on eBay though.

I bought a secondhand g3 with a broken screen for 35 euros. Switched motherboard and everything was working again. So maybe this is an option.

Where did you buy it?
I did the same, bought a lg g3 with a broken screen, from a local ad site. Switched motherboards and everything was fine until I tried to make a call as it losses the network and does not allow me to make or receive calls. Oddly enough I have 4g data and everything else works.
When I switch network to only 2G or only 3G the phone losses the network and I have no data. If I put "automatically switch between 2G, 3G, 4G" I have 4G data can not make or receive calls.
I installed xposed and imei changer thinking that I had bought a stolen phone, changed the imei number and still no network.
If anybody could help I´d be grateful.

Hi Fluffier,
I have same issue as you: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/brutal-signal-attenuation-d855-t3586931
It must be motherboard. Sorry...
In addition this easter days it added bootloop to the list of failures... (It only works connected with a 2A adapter + only LTE and Wifi).
After some deliberation I've just bought a V20 on china.

I had to do almost this same thing. I bought working phone with cracked screen and I replaced my mainboard (with no signal issue) with 'new' one. On stock (directly from kdz) I got message from system that there is a problem with mcc number. Exactly the same as this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57630582&postcount=443.
Apart from this, everything works great and I really recommend that method as a second life to any phone

Yes, definitely yes. If you do it, your phone will not be us990 anymore. It will be d855
All you have to remember is you could receive this same warning as I mentioned in previous post, but it shouldn't pop-up in any moded ROM.
For 100% it is not active in Fulmcs 6.9 and any Nougat ROMs.

If you bought main board for d855 you should flash kdz for d855, not anything different.
I did nott buy the d855,,i unbricked my us990. It is now in download mode..not letting me flash us990 kdz. It stops at 2%
Hmm, I bricked mine a few times - it's really easy with this phone and for no reason. I tried different flash programs/DLL versions, then the COM ports switched on me and it was also very dependent on the USB port on the computer - change things around. Eventually it should work. And then if you have it open there's also the Qualcomm recovery where you can go into a download mode and directly load the extracted binaries from the tot file. That worked no problem on mine on first try. I didn't even flash the whole thing - like data and system, just whatever it needed to boot - the small partitions I suspected of being corrupted.
Here's the guide:

In 2020, it's worth it !
Hi everyone, quick update on 2020, regarding whether or not it's worth buying a new Lg G3 motherboard :
For the context, I received my phone from a friend of mine, which change phones in the mean time because of its battery issues, but changing the battery solved everything. At some point, last year, my G3 dropped into the sea -_-') but I did not want to part with it and I had to to change most of the components.
I managed to get first a new motherboard, then a new back camera, a new prebuilt LCD + touchscreen frame, a new jack plug (being broken by default), a new camera lens, a new flex cable for the buttons and a new antenna for less than 65$ on AliExpress (mind you, the D855 2GB/32GB motherboard was 28.63$ and the screen was 20.99$)
Honestly, my only complaint is the amount of memory (2GB in a little on the light side) but this phone is awesome ! It's super cheap and easy to repair, and I actually bought spares for a later time. If you have a dead G3 at home, I think it's worth repairing it
Hi, I found my old G3 and wanna try to revive it. I was wondering if chinese motherboards are reliable. I read about someone saying that IMEI on those motherboards is overwrited to look like other models, basically a "frankenstein" motherboard. Can you give me your feedback. Thanks

Seller recomending not to upgrade Android 6.0.1

I want to get one of these and I found quite a few of them as "new other", probably refurbished. There are quite a few seller with similar prices and more or less the same the same description and in the description a lot of the sellers recommend to not upgrade the android version: "Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow)(Suggestting not to upgrade the system.) ".
My question is, can anyone tell me what a good reason for this would be/what's wrong with the 7.0 update that I can't find/ what could cause the phone to not work with 7.0/anything?
PS: Seller also claims this is a LG H900, if that is at all relevant.

the reason behind not update to newer version of software maybe be related of motherboards replacement, like exterior saying its a H901 but the motherboard is a H960A or other, so, you think you have one and you have another in reality.
Those kind of things happen in refurbished phones so, i just warning you to dont buy those, you will have a lot of trouble with...someday the phone will bootloop again, since its a refurbished for some kind of bootloop early and then they repair it and put it to sell again.
If you want to be safe just add more 60/70 in money and you can buy a new one instead of refurbished. they are so cheap now.

Unfortunately the phone is still very expensive where I live but I found some sold as new in box and without the "Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow)(Suggestting not to upgrade the system.) " recommendation. There are at a similar price I just have to pay tax since they are outside the EU which is not a big deal. The interesting part is that they are advertised as LG H900 unlocked as well.

G965U to G965F Conversion

I was given a Galaxy S9+ last year that had been waterlogged and would not turn on, but parts were too expensive for it. Now that parts are getting insanely cheap, I want to fix it. At the moment, it's an ATT branded phone, and because of that, I want to change the mainboard to the European model so that it is Rootable.
If I were to put a G965F board in it, would the phone still turn on and operate with the G965U components?

Okay, so to answer myself. It does not work. It causes camera failure and failure for sim to not work correctly. I was told that the charger port and rear camera are incompatible and cause the errors. I replaced the charging port to the 965F, and it fixed the SIM issue. However, I replaced the rear camera to a 965F one and still get an error. Anyone know if anything else is incompatible? Maybe the front camera?
