adoptable storage using new tool! - LG G6 Guides, News, & Discussion

I used the new New Adoptable Storage Tool! and now have a 64 GB g6!

Confirmed working on mine as well so far.

hmmm.... now to contemplate if I need 96GB or 160GB internal......
Thanks for testing it out and confirming!

Great find. All I need now is root to have Adblock and I won't need anything elseView attachment 4108366

I have a concern regarding this adoptable storage. Every app that I go in and gives me the option to choose a location to store data (Spotify as exemple) shows internal storage with 13GB free, not 16some GB... If I remember correctly, adoptable storage means that the phone would treat the partition of the SD card as internal memory... And use it all as 1

Its not working for me, when I try and do it manually It just hangs and when I used this program I get this error message "Error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: java.util.concurrent.TimeoutException: Thread Binder:1828_4 gave up waiting for partitionMixed after 180000ms

If you migrate data to the adopted storage, it becomes unaccessible. Any apps you move to the adopted storage become inaccessible as well. But you shouldn't have any issues still using any apps still on the actual internal.

Are there any stability issues? I remember Apps2SD back in the WinMo days and it caused some issues with rebooting, random data loss, ghost apps, etc.
Does this degrade performance at all?
Do you have to select what gets stored where? Or does the system manage the "internal" external SD the same?

I have successfully used the tool and now my SD card is formated as adoptable storage.
I am unable to migrate the data to the SD card.. I process starts, gives me a message that it will move 6GB from the internal to the SD and will make my SD card default for future apps. After several minutes it fails with an error message that data were left at the original location.
Did anyone manage to perform the migration?

try apps2sd pro to migrate apps , i am using it on my xperia z3 sucessfully with adoptable storage 128gb card memory card under 5.1.1 (rooted)

Try AdClear no need to root/unlock.
The current way to block ad without root is a VPN running on the phone and blocking sites through the VPN.
It works.

Does anyone know if adoptable storage (via adb commands) is supported on LG G6 after upgrade to Oreo?

Great! But, why not use a 128gb card? Since you're stuck with it now.

I haven't done it on this phone because I don't need it ( we've got enough storage for apps, imo ), but I've done it on a J5 2015 and it automatically installs apps on the SD card. Haven't seen any stability issues, but it can degrade the performance because it depends on the speed of the card. If you've got a slower card than your phone's storage, then you will see some performance drop for sure.

Verizon Galaxy S4 Memory Issues

Attached is the picture from my storage page. Prior to this I deleted a few apps and I thought I had enough space to download GTA Vice City. Halfway through is stopped and had an available space error. What was downloaded was still appearing in memory so I went into recovery and wiped both the cache and delvik cache. I also wiped the play store app and google services framework data and caches so I could try to reset the issue. Since then other apps have been unable to update or download due to "insufficient space", and google music won't play because of it. How can I get this cleared up?
I am running stock android rooted with clockworkmod touch recovery.
Thanks
Try folder mount app in market to free up all that space. I haven't tried it personally but I heard it works for some.
Moves big apps to sdcard and link them as if they were installed on phones memory.

Okay I don't mean to intrude to this post but I am having the same problem with memory and I was wondering if someone could help me.
Now I still have. Zip files on my phone now once I flash them could I delete them or how's that work. Someone please help.

exFAT is a newer format that's Microsoft proprietary. The primary advantage over FAT32 is that it allows files greater than 4 Gb.
So, the likely problem is that your backup was bigger than 2Gb and couldn't be stored on FAT32.
Just a guess since you didn't say exactly what you used for the backup.
And exFAT isn't buggy, it's just less frequently supported.
Hope this helps.

You can't exactly... the "internal storage" in your screen shot is the /data partition for installing applications, that is the normal place apps go. Under normal circumstances you cannot install apps to your internal (12.5GB) storage, it is considered external storage to the operating system, hence why it is in /sdcard0 and your real microSD card is /sdcard1. To use these areas for apps you must use a tool like App2SD, Link2SD, or similar app, and only some apps can be moved, if it has a widget it cannot be moved and there are a few other rules that it will ward you about.
Okay.... So I did what you said and tried link2sd, but when moving apps to SD I get an 'INSUFFICIENT STORAGE ERROR'
And isn't there suppose to be an 'move to SD card' option in this app?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No, not in KitKat anyways, it doesn't have the SD card support that ICS had, Google hates SD cards for some reason, and has been limiting SD card support more and more in each Android version since Ice Cream Sandwich.
As far as the error in Link2SD, not sure, I haven't used it in years... Sorry.

How do you go about formatting the internal sd card. I just went from 4.2 to 4.4.4 and now TWRP and CWM recoveries will not mount and recognize the internal card. I can't even access the internal card to format it or anything else. How do I go about fixing this. 4.4.4 is pretty sweet.

SD card not enough space?

Hey guys I'm having an issue with setting my sd card as my download directory, when I set it to external sd and try to download anything wether it be a picture or a document I get Message saying their is not enough space cannot finish download, now I thought it might be my sd card going bad so I went out and purchased a New one 64GB, old one was 32gb but I'm still getting the same message, I can set it to internal memory dl the file and then transfer it to my sd after just fine so I know now it's not an sd issue.
Anyone have a solution to this issue or advice on what I should try thanks

You could try the app SDFix by NextApp in the Play Store. It's free.
- Tapatalked from the G3 -
OP - Are you rooted?
KitKat has issues with access to microSD depending on what you are doing.
You will need to enable full access to SD.
Look in the root thread ot use Xposed with Tweakbox.

boat browser is not a privileged app. It will not write everywhere on the sdcard with default kitkat privileges. you can change them manually or since you are rooted use an app like sdfix or an xposed module to do the change for you.
more details here

I have the same problem with the internal card. i can't download anything off of playstore anymore because it says insufficient memory. I am going to have to flash the stock b06 thing and start over. blows. Oh and there is like 12 gig available on the internal card and I dont see any other way around it. Maybe after refreshing I will be able to implement the newest root method and that will clear it up. Also I DON'T have a problem saving random objects to the samsung evo 64gb (omg you have to get one) because I did the kitkat fix and it worked fine.

Move to SD card option for Apps on other model, is it available?

I have the Verizon US version and its not available..
Im really annoyed..
They already took out the option for adoptable storage but not allowing to move the apps data to SD is just ridiculous..
I am on the Tmo version and have the same and it kinda sucks, for apps like uTorrent I want everything including the app to be on the SD card.

As I said on my message.. I am aware of adaptoble storage option on Android 6.0 but LG just like Samsung took this option out of their phones.. But what's better about the S7 now is they still allowed you to do move to SD option to free up some internal storage..

I've tried his method of partitioning the card over adb using sm a few times not but to no success.
It always ends in an error and then a corrupt SD card that requires formatting via a computer to get working again.
The main error I get is:
Code:
Error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: java.util.concurrent.TimeoutException: Thread Binder_6 gave up waiting for partitionPrivate after 180000ms
But have also had the following:
Code:
Error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: command '43 volume partition disk:179,64 private' failed with 'null'
Anyone else managed to get this working?

I also got this error several times when I tried to set it up. But after trying like 4 or so times to get the command to run without error and getting the same thing every time, I kinda just gave up. Afterward, when I looked around the settings for the device storage, I saw that my SD card oddly appeared to be showing fully as internal storage. I tested moving a few apps back and forth from my SD card to the true internal storage and it worked totally fine (I can't post links, so if you check out fq9iBFn.png on Imgur, you can see the screenshot of my storage settings page).
The only things I think I might've done differently is that I completely wiped the filesystem off of the SD card after the first time it failed. I figured starting with no partitions and an empty card was the best way to go about it. I also tried at one point using the command "sm set-force-adoptable true" before runninng the command to partition the card. I read to do that in a guide I saw for enabling adoptable storage on the G4. If you do that, make sure to run "sm set-force-adoptable false" afterward, I'm not sure what that might do if you leave it as true, but the guides I've read have indicated to set it to false after partitioning.
So, based purely on how it happened to me, I'd try those two things and even if you still get an error back, check your device after rebooting and make sure whether it was/wasn't set up right.
Turns out none of that stuff mattered. The timeout error may pop up, but the SD card is still being formatted/configured in the background despite that. As long as you keep waiting until the SD card reappears under your Storage & USB settings page after running the command, your SD card will be set up for adoptable storage.
Tmo has disabled the adoptable storage option in. I'm guessing, since it is written into the os now, that once we root and custom roms we can get it back.

I had this error with a SD card (class 10 Integral 128 GB) but not problem whatsoever with a Samsung evo class 10 64 GB on my G4. I guess it is SD card dependant. Be sure you're using a original class 10 from a renowned manufacture (Samsung, SanDisk, etc...).

[Apps2sd] Linked apps 'break' on reboot

- I have a rooted Asus ZenFone 5 on 5.0
- I partitioned my sd, 2nd partition is ext2
- I successfully linked apps using the app Apps2sd
The problem:
- On reboot, the apps don't work.
- This is because the obb link of the app is shown to be broken(in app details, the link picture of obb is shown to be 'cut').
- Soft reboot doesn't solve it, nor does recreating mount scripts.
Only thing I could do is link the app again, and it works, but on reboot, the same problem comes up again.
How do I fix this?
You can't. Those files were never meant to be in external storage. This is due to the way android loads the memory.
Only option is to update to an os that adaptable storage.

So will this work(linking and not breaking) with apps that are naturally movable to sd card(i.e. moveable to sd from Android settings)?
And what OS could I get to change that? Cyanogen? RR?

Not really. Apps are really not made for sdcards. As for the OS you will need something that uses 6.0 as a base.
So marshmallow allows apps into sd? No problem with linking and rebooting?

It as adaptable storage. Which means converting your sdcard to be system memory. Does it work? Couldn't tell you. None of the devices I buy have an sdcard slot. And oem have hidden the feature or removed it all together.
So... either I get a custom rom with 6.0 without any guarantee that it actually works(and lose my data), or just be stuck with this problem on lollipop.
Another question, this problem will persist even for the apps link2sd and foldermount? I ask because they might use different methods, I can't confirm myself as my apps are already linked with apps2sd.

Yes. It is due to the way the os is set for mounting and reading the sd card. The whole OS loads before it reads the sdcard. Once all apps and data are loaded does it scan the sdcard. Not really alot you can do about it. I just wouldn't bother with moving things to the sdcard. Devices now generally come with plenty of storage.
