Anyone knows how to make Youtube videos always play in HQ on Remix OS for PC? - Remix OS for PC

I managed to find an app to change the resolution Easy DPI Changer works great.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chornerman.easydpichanger&hl=en
However even at 1080P Youtube Videos play at low resolution. You manually have to check HQ to get them to play at better resolution. Does anyone know how to force Remix OS to play all Youtube videos in HQ?
I can only assume that Netflix videos will also play in low resolution. I haven't tried Netflix yet.

As far as I know this depends on the app settings or internet speed.
YouTube app should play videos in highest available resolution depending on internet speed.

Not so sure about that. I have 60Mbit/s download and 10Mbit/s Upload and my Nvidia Shield Android TV always plays everything in HQ but on Remix OS I have to manually click the HQ icon

I understand. I don't know how the YouTube app decides on the default quality, but it looks like it depends on the hardware.
Most likely it doesn't have your GPU/CPU on it's "list of 720/1080p fully capable hardware" and that's why it doesn't automatically pick the highest resolution.
Still... it's just my deduction.
Easiest way to enforce YouTube behaviour from Nvidia Shield would be to fake your Remix OS hardware info by changing GPU/CPU info with the NVIDIA Shield (or some other hardware running Android officially) info. It should be possible just like setting fake GPS fix.

I'm using a Laptop with an I5 3320m processor, it uses the Intel HD Graphics 4000. I believe this can handle 1080p Youtube in Windows.
Anyways I added some tweaks to my build.prop and at 1080p it stutters too much. I dropped the resolution to 1366x768 since I'm using a 32" TV and it handles 720P pretty good now but struggles with 720p at 60 fps in Youtube.
But now Youtube atomatically chooses resolution up to 720p 60 fps with the modifications to the build.prop
Does Remix OS has good Intel drivers? Anyway to update them if there are better drivers out there?

Have you checked if this laptop can view 1080p videos on Windows?
I don't think you'd be able to view them fluidly on this machine - not from YouTube.
Jide focused on trying to provide best Intel GPU drivers and I think your HD 4000 won't work any better.
You could update drivers, but that would require building your own kernel which is a pain, because Jide posted no documentation on how this should be done. Additionally their kernel source repository gives errors on build trials...
All in all, know that on Remix OS YouTube videos will play best in the YT app. In browsers they usually have worse framerate.

Ok I just tested YouTube on a external monitor in Windows with resolution at 1920x1080.
I tried playing some trailers tagged 1080p 60fps which really lag on Remix OS. For some reason the video only goes to 720P when playing in Windows but it plays smooth.
On Remix OS when the same video plays it's tagged as 720P 60fps and it lags, the video/audio is choppy at times.
This is the video I tested
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeK-d553Mjk
I also tested it in Windows on another Laptop that has a i5 4300U with an Intel HD graphics 4400 GPU
and on this one it lets me pick 1080P 60fps in Chrome and it plays smooth. I think on the other laptop it only went to 720P because I was using IE
**Edit**
Ok I installed Chrome on the other Laptop and in Windows it seems to lag a little in 720p 60fps and 1080p 60fps, not as much as in Remix OS but there is some lag every few seconds.
The i5 4300U with an Intel HD graphics 4400 GPU does not seem to have this issue. I guess YouTube 720p60 and 1080p60 are demanding and the HD graphics 4400 GPU does a better job
I did one more test.
In Chrome I went to chrome://flags
and disabled Hardware-accelerated video decode and now YouTube 1080p60 videos seem to play smooth on the i5 3320 with the Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics card since it's using the CPU for hardware acceleration now
Does anyone know how to make Remix OS use the CPU and not the GPU for hardware acceleration? This probably will fix the stutter in YouTube.

@saulin78
As far as I know it's not possible to set Software Renderer on a per app basis. The app either has to have special codecs like MX Player has (HW/SW mode) or you need to boot the whole system in SW or HW mode.
For YouTube or Chrome apps on Android HW/SW switching is NOT possible.
You can try booting Remix OS in full SW rendering mode - CPU will handle all graphics.
This mode usually provides much worse overall performance which is self-explanatory.
From experience I know in this mode even high end CPU's can't handle high res video playback.
To test, you need to boot the OS with special kernel parameter in grub boot menu:
Code:
androidboot.swrast=1
Here is the info on how to apply the parameter: Guide

@Vioner
Thanks for the suggestion. I actually ended up tweaking my build.prop with suggested settings from other forums and this one and still the YouTube app struggles with 720p60, the video is not choppy anymore but the sound cuts in/out, however the videos play smooth using the Chrome Browser and the sound is fine there so I'll just use that

Chrome browser for Android is simply much different from the Windows/Linux one and it can't provide the same performance.
I'm glad you reached a somewhat acceptable scenario.

cant play video and any video related apps crash!

just ported in for the 32bit remix, everything works fine just i cant play any video content.
1) youtube apps auto close
2) load youtube from browser , no video
3) cant play video with mp4 format on mxplayer
4) twitch auto close
ps: when i create a new folder on desktop that folder cant open. NO reaction.
is it anything i did wrong when i ported in?
thanks if there is any help.:crying::crying:
Same issuse here on Vaio VGN21.
I have the same issue with 64bit version on my MSI AE2400, which has an Amd Mobility 4670 video card. I assume that video playback is still a work in progress.
But overall i am quite pleased with the overall feel of Remix OS
oh I thought I was the only one xD having this problem too on my aging Toshiba... everything else works though (for the most part)
BSPlayer is the only video playing app I tried that works. A bit clunky but functional.
Yeah same here on my Asrock Ion 330. MXplayer just doesn't play any format and VLC just crashes or just flashes and close. BSPlayer is the only thing that will play but it's very laggy.
hmmm....whenever you post any problems, its mighty helpful if you take the trouble to mention your system specs....like your video, processor...
anyways, try the boot flags posted here:

Try BSPlayer.... only one that works at the moment (at least for me)
I bypassed this video problem with Kodi, works really good, I would recommend to anyone...!
what is kodi?
i have the same issues on my 64 bit lenovo g550...
Sent from my remix pc using XDA Free mobile app
same issue here. Can't use Youtube.
Am using a Lenovo S10-2
Just go to settings - applications, open your video application and grant fullscreen mode. Then it should work.
Best, maris
Kodi is powerfull mediaplayer with a lot of addons to choose, just google it man and give a try...
Same issue here too
Using a Lenovo G475 whit 32bit build

try to upgrade your laptop power or boost the adapter because somethines the CPU processor need enough power to carry that, like wise increase the ram to at least 8GB

Video playback problem

After months of researching why video playback fails on my device, it is because it is using cpu rendering not GPU. That also prevents me from playing +240 videos on YouTube. In VLC beta, I can change the playback device to OpenGL 3.0 and video works awesomely. How can I do this system wide?
You can try SW decoder to play some video

This is not a real solution, we want to have hardware accelerated playback like on any normal system.
There is another problem too, I've seen few people mentioning it. It probably affects only integrated intel gpus, hardware accelerated vids look like ****, they have extremely low color depth.
This problem doesn't occur under recent Androidx86, so I hope that they'll switch to new kernel as soon as possible.

Works like real shiiit on my pc. We have GPUs and we want to use them. Maybe the kernel update in the next version will fix it? Let's hope so.
Hi all,
samsung xe700t1c - ao4uk convertible laptop tablet
core i5 quad core 1.7 ghz - 2.6 ghz turbo
4gb ddr3
intel HD 4000 ( 2GB video memory )
running version 3.0101 (Marshmallow) from a 544MB/s 64GB Msata drive in a USB 3.0 Enclosure
everything working very fast system (INCLUDING SLEEP AND WAKE UP but havent tested every sensor etc). Sim card function not working so jide please enable sim card function for calling and internet data. Thank you.
so far with an Antutu score of 124,000 i have tested 1080p 60fps HD video playback which plays smooth and crisp and 3d games like Dead Trigger 2 work perfectly.
by default the remix os is in powersave mode but all cpu cores stay on and high which causes battery drain and cpu heat but with a software called 3 cpu manager the problem can be solved easily by setting the max cpu frequency to 800 Mhz on all cores and you also have the ability to change from powersave to performance mode which is what i used to acheive smooth 1080p 60fps video quality! (without overclocking the system 1080p 60fps footage is not possible and laggy!
please enable HDMI audio and widget capability and please make remix os unrooted and create a method to easily root for users who want root that way you have both audience users!
I think you should post your message to this feedback page so that it reaches the developers

Green video line, video lag problem

Hi guys,
I'm using AEX v4.4 with amigo kernel. Im having trouble playing some 720p and 1080p video from movie HD or megabox (using default video player) also when I download a video or recording with camera app there is a green line at video thumbnail. Because of this I can't send video through whatsapp. I'm using vulkan but I don't think it have anything to do with this problem right. Please help me. Or anyone suggest me a nougat rom that does not have this problem.

Heyyo, eh I'd recommend using MX Player. It's pretty much the only video playing and streaming app for Android that works properly with hardware acceleration. Back on my OnePlus One it was pretty much the only way to watch 1080P videos properly.
Amigos kernel was good but development stopped quite a while ago as Shivatejapeddi has moved onto Oreo development. I'd recommend a different kernel such as BS or BSi Kernel or Darkobas (OmniROM) kernel found on other ROMs.
About kernel - ROM Slim7 is working on BlackScreen 3.6.2, ROM and kernel works very good, maybe worth trying?

Tab S3 only 720p on Netflix ?

Hey guys,
My Nvidia Shield K1 died, and after several days doing comparison of what's available now, i decided to go for a Tab S3.
Great Super Amoled screen, hdr capable, but only 720p on netflix ? is that true ?
Even the shield k1 can do 1080.
Is it just a config issue or is the tab s3 really only capable of 720p ?
You can play HDR on the tab. I don't use Netflix so I'm not going to be much help. You need the right version of the apk and latest firmware version. If you're rooted use magisk and there is a module for Netflix.
See if anything in here helps, https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3711917
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Thx for your reply, but it has nothing to do with HDR, you can be in 720p and still play in HDR. And yes i can play hdr content, at least i see the hdr tag on some content in netflix, but this tablet seems limited to 720p. And i dont understand why.
And i want to know if anyone ever tried the test patterns on there tab, look at the upper right corner, it will show you the bitrate, resolution and framerate. The shield k1 shows 1080p at 30 fps and the tab s3 720p at 30 fps.

Steam Link on 8.4 M5 (SHT-W09)

Has anyone tried the "Steam Link" app on the M5? I gave it a go last night and had no success whatsoever. The app detected Steam running on my PC and the network test was successful. I launched a fairly low resource game (Alien v Predator Classic) and went back to the Steam Link app. I could vaguely make out an image on the tablet from the game, but the app pretty much froze. Buttons were unresponsive and I had to force close the app. I tried again with different games, but no joy.
Anyone tried "Steam Link" and had any success on our tablet?
It is a bit of a disaster, not sure if it's just Kirin 960 devices in general, but the decoder is what is causing the lag.. HEVC decode or H264 decode, it lags regardless.. same thing on my snapdragon phone and it's smooth as butter 1080p60fps.. the mediapad wont even do 480p 60fps without framdrops.. might be fixed in pie..
