anyone feeling lag or slow on this tablet? and/or touchscreen problem? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

just picked up this tablet this after cuz this is the only android tab with modern soc.
but it feels laggy when using. especialy when playing games.
The game i play called Mobile Legends,
I used to play with my Moto Z which packaged the same soc as this tab, yet the resolution looks like shyt and very choppy and laggy when playing.
Also touch screen some times stop working when multi touching, e.g walking with left wheel and attacking using right button, then left wheel stucked into one direction until release and touch left wheel again.
is it a rom issue? game issue or i received a defected unit?

I can only compare it with my OnePlus 3T but I feel that probably is a good comparison SD820 vs SD821.
In general I'd say performance is more or less the same with the odd animation stutter on the tab s3.
I don't do games so can't comment there, but its handling 4k h265 HDR content like a breeze and barely dents the battery.
I'll see if I get a chance to download and try the game, will feedback performance.

I think you need to mess with the game launcher feature to get working correctly

no stutter and lag for me so far. Mine just arrived today.

I've had mine since launch day, no issues here.

I've had two now, one Wi-Fi only device which I replaced with a LTE version and for some reason the LTE one feels more laggy, might try a factory reset.

Its because of samung touchwiz. Nougat build is really laggy even though I had tab s2 and even after heavy debloating I noticed minor difference. When I switched to a custom rom it much much snappier without any lags.
So blame samsung or wait for them to fix these issues. I have a oneplus 3 and with 820 its really quick(custom rom)!

Sometime I feel some lag, but the very annoying problem I've found is that when holding the tablet vertically, scrolling the screen up and down reveals that the right side of the display is draw a little before the left side, so showing a strange "elastic" effect. This hurts me given the "premium" level of the tablet. The same effect doesn't show on my 3 years old Tab S, nor in landscape orientation.
Did you notice the same things?

Have LTE version and it does feel laggy. Special if the device been off for long time.

Pretty bad performance when apps are updating or after sitting idle or of for long periods. Can't wait to root and put a Rom on it but I want to keep s pen functionality.

I did a Geekbench at 07 this morning I got 1823 single core and 4033 multi.
Now, a few hours later I get no more than 1190 single and 3100 multi, which is slower than my Tab s2
and my Geekbench 4 app hangs when trying to start up have to force quit it sometimes.
How can I find out who/what is stealing my speed?
Huib
Sorry kids, the Tab s3 is back to normal with single core 1773 multi core 4033 and compute a whopping 7085.

Same problem with my LTE. Sometimes he hardly wakes up after a while. It may take some seconds or not wake up at all.
Now I have really problems. It just does not start up. It reboots when not starting up from lepp
.
-There is no difference if using Nova or Touchwiz.
-The data/apps on it is a clone of my Tab S2
Huib
P.s.
I must say that playing very large Video files ( >10 GB) is much snappier. But e.g. my Dutch Volkskrant/AD newspaper does a very bad two fingers zoom pitch. It just hangs now and then while zooming. Problems that I do not have while zooming google foto's and others.

I removed the SD card and did a factory rest and it seems like its working fine now. The tablet wakes up very fast and I don't see any lag so far.

are you guys using an SD card?

Yes, that should not be a problem. 128 GB.
I had however the program Dropsync ( great software BTW) referring to a non existing folder on the SD card.
So, at every startup/wake up, the program seemed to be searchig for the folder. And that caused the delay or hanging.
I am not 100% sure, but after stopping Dropsync, and later on referring to the correct folders, the problem never came back.
A small test, removing the SD card, helped me a lot.
Huib

Not using it to play games, but it seems to run smoother after an update I received today.

Hi! After reading this thread, I've decided to remove sd card and tablet stopped lag. Then I've formatted SD card to exFat, removed unused files so some music, several books and 3 photos left there. After putting it back, tablet started to lag again.
Today I've run AnTuTu Benchmark with sd and without. 1 test with card, 1 without, 1 with, 1 without. Between tests I've only closed AnTuTu via back button and nothing else.
So results:
With SD1: 3D 28282, UX 38632, CPU 29294, RAM 9185 TOTAL 105393
Without SD1: 3D 53146, UX 41127, CPU 23673, RAM 7392 TOTAL 125338
With SD2: 3D 28743, UX 38650, CPU 22223, RAM 6571 TOTAL 96187
Without SD2: 3D 57138, UX 43860, CPU 24020, RAM 8690 TOTAL 133708
As you can see, 3D and UX are much faster WITHOUT card. It's prettey old ADATA 32GB. No app is installed there. How can this be?

Old SD cards can get laggy. I had one in my Note4 that I'd had for about 5 years. Lots of reading and writing to it in that time. Eventually my Note4 started lagging and becoming unresponsive. I took the SD card out and no more lag.

My UK LTE version doesn't lag. It's actually quite fast and fluid. Do you have Samsung's cloud back-up feature activated? It consumes a lot of resources when it's running. I must have a unicorn Tab S3. It's never experienced Wi-Fi drain and gets stunning battery life; both in stand-by and active use.

My experience with Mini Pro ICS, reverted to GB

Hi all,
I'd just like to share my experience when testing the official ICS update:
It's quite fast, looks a bit nicer too, I really love the fact you can disable services (finally!).
However, next to the known bugs (notification led not working, more ram usage), I did experience some issues when streaming videos:
- flash video is extremely choppy, seems to be loading continually.
- same for the app dumpert.nl, which streams flv files. Loading the movie takes quite some time, after which it only runs smooth for a couple of seconds, then it gets loading again.
- playing video from sd seems to work correctly though.
- I have the impression that loading from sd card is way slower as on GB?
For the moment I have reverted to GB, as it runs smoother with almost no bugs.
Coming from iphone 3GS, I keep however dreaming of an android device with a silky smooth interface ;-) (perhaps 4.0.4+ ics will do that ?)

I highly doubt that Sony will update 2011 series further than 4.0.4, as at first they were claiming that those phones' specs aren't good enough to run ICS properly.
but I guess that flashing custom ROMs and kernels might do the job
I too had pretty bad experience with ICS on my LWW and ultimately reverted back to superstable GingerBread.
But i love ICS. If you have any issue on SD card, use "Rom toolbox" or "SD Speed Increase" apps for improve SD card speed.

Official Sony ICS ROM is full of crapware. This is what makes it slow. Use a custom ROM. My phone was never this fast and snappy before with stock ROM as it is now with custom ROM and kernel.

I can't use a rooted rom, as my company has policies in place for the usage of smartphones in combination with corporate e-mail.
Still, with almost all services disabled, flash performance was still bad...

No root + bloatware on ICS = Lag/ Freeze screen.
Maybe you need to get a separate/personal phone.
2011 Xperia phones are a bit choppy by default running on ICS that's why you need to have root permissions (the least) to make some remedy.

OK, since there's a thread I'll share my experience. First, let me point out the good things.
1. It's ICS. Fast, smooth, no lag in menus or stock apps. Runs great on this hardware.
2. I first thought the Sony UI would destroy the ICS experience, but I was pleasantly surprised. Except the bloatware, the icons and menus look great.
3. Battery life. In my usage experience is much better. I can very easily pull through a day and still have ~20% left. I'm talking about a few hours surfing on WiFi and a little browsing on 3G.
4. Multitasking. Even with 512MB ram and Sony bloatware, I can multitask without any application/game suddenly closing. Also the ICS multitasking menu is excellent.
5. Camera. The photos are finally in 100% JPEG quality. A photo is around 1.5 - 2 MB in size. Also, the videos seem to be of a better quality, even with the stabilizer on I don't have FPS drops. The only thing that's missing is the macro mode. Actually I think it's not missing since I once got the phone to say macro even though I was shooting an outside nature portrait. I think the camera app has problems when focusing close objects, this needs to be fixed.
Now I also have many of the problems already mentioned.
1. Notification LED. It doesn't work, except when the phone is charging, I get no light for SMS/Email/FB...
2. Games. Some games like Angry Birds Space, Temple Run and others suddenly the touch stops responding. A reboot usually solves this. I don't get what's causing this, as the games state that they are optimized for ICS.
4. Chrome Browser. The browser installs and runs fine, but whenever I click on a text field, the virtual keyboard doesn't show up. I can only use the QWERTY to type letters as the FN, Symbol and other keys don't work, which makes the browser pretty much unable. I can't find a fix, I think it's a application bug.
Overall, I'm satisfied with the update Sony managed to pull, maybe a little later than stated, but they kept their promise. Hope this bugs will be fixed with a new update.

I think ICS has a option for disable the unwanted system apps, without root. Follow this guide http://www.thespicygadgematics.com/2012/06/how-to-remove-bloatware-on-android-ics.html

Only sore point is when it comes to some games ICS lags.. Towers n trolls is choppy.. But ignoring that..rest is great.. Camera is much better quality wise too..

Phone Slows Down

Not sure if this is just me or everyone, but I noticed that when after flashing a rom and starting blank and fresh with no apps installed and with the HTC Sense pages at default with the preloaded widgets. At this point the whole phone is fast and very snappy and very smooth when swiping between different home screens. Even if you rotate the phone to landscape the phone rotates very fast.
BUT
As soon as I start installing my games and apps from the Play store, the whole phone just doesnt become snappy anymore. With 1GB Ram and Dual Core 1.5 GHz S4 CPU shouldnt the phone stay snappy no matter how many apps you have installed? This seems to be the case for every Sense phone.
It seems like the slow down comes when I start opening a couple apps and customizing the home screens. I tried down grading to 5 screens instead of 7 with a couple widgets such as the weather clock and I have my apps grouped into folders ect. At this point swiping between screens is a little jerky but if I keep swiping it goes back to being smooth.
My previous phones Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S2 didnt have this problem. I could have all 7 pages maxed out with widgets and apps filling up each page and the phone would remain snappy with no lag.
I never been a fan of the Snap Dragon CPU. I had better experience with Exynos.

EXACTLY!
Yeah, im aware that I can switch to Nova launcher ect, but if that was the case, I would have kept my Galaxy Nexus. I want to beable to use the nice fancy Sense Widgets but the phone shouldnt have to slow down like it does.
I found this to happen on each rom I been on and I tried just about each of them in the Dev section. I havnt tried %100 stock because, soon as I got the phone I rooted and used a custom rom so im not sure if pure stock has this problem.
Maybe a Dev can chime in with a solution.
I can agree to an extent..no matter what though, this phone will always be faster than a galaxy nexus. (Don't know bout jellybean). That thing stuttered like a mofo when I was testin it.
Anyways, the phone tends to slow down and speed up at will. Could be a combination of cache or resources that sense needs in order for it to run that bogs memory. (Like adding different widgets, apps, etc) Sense just isn't well made like the pure android experience imo. It needs more fluidity within the system to run smoother and this is probably why you experience lag every now and then. Overall, I'm satisfied. It doesn't slow down too much. Still feels like a superior device even with its flaws (sense UI)

Have you made sure your app/games are installed on your phone storage? I noticed a lot of app tend to use the internal storage.
Internal storage: 2Gb
Phone storage: 10Gb
I'm all stock and don't have any lag!
i noticed that too. my phone seems to be getting slower and slower. my gf's galaxy nexus with jellybean is much faster and smoother than my phone. i can't wait for cm10.
its not your phone, rom or sense. it's the play store. it happens on stock or rooted. even does it on my wife's 3D(stock unrooted). I blame it on when the play store changed over to the format it uses, now. even noticed it on her epic touch before I gave her my 3D. just my opinion I know. otherwise I have no lag.

I'm not sure what it is. All I know my Galaxy Nexus never slowed down with AOKP and CM and my Epic Touch was also always smooth. Can't say that about this phone. The camera is nice and screen is nice but can't say that about this Snap Dragon so far.
Well this damn phone flies with Nova Launcher..HTC should be ashamed of them selves for still continuing to have sense be as slow as it is.
And I'm afraid even project butter in jelly bean won't help because HTC will find a way to slow things down
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I have absolutely no speed decrease what so ever. Stock or Custom Rom. Try uninstalling aps that you don't need system or data. Try locking sense into memory threw bp. That will definitely help IMO. Also how you set your phone up will always play a major role in performance. If anyone wants to know how I run mine to compare to there setup just hit me with a pm. I have over 40 apps installed and I have no lag in anything I do. This phone is a Monster lol. I've had the hero,evo4g,evo3d, and none of them can match the performance of this phone. Just my opinion.

Games run slower then on my inferior note 3

My smartphone which has slightly weaker hardware (almost identical but the Sony is higher clocked) still runs games better then this device. Sim city build it, gta San Andreas are noticeably smoother on the note. What could be the problem? I'm running latest stock firmware, not rooted yet. Battery saving features that could reduce performance are disabled.
I did notice that as well back in December when it resent came out but no one said anything. I can only hope that sony does something about it when lollipop comes out. my xperia z ultra plays better then this SGP621
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. I also experience some animation lag in the ui occasionally, especially the homescreen. I even tried Nova launcher but it still feels stuttery.
Without root (and/or more info, i.e. an active media scanner and a bad sd card will really slow things down in my experience), I might try playing around with some display and brightness settings, i.e. turning off enhancements, intelligent backlight control, etc in order to see whether they could be a culprit.
I am not really a gamer, but I generally experience no lag inside Nova Launcher. And if I do it is often after a reboot and it goes away.

Yea I had this in hearthstone but I tried out 5.0.2 and the tablet was a lot smoother.
If you dont care about MHL and your DRM keys like I do, I recomend the CM nightly builds it transforms the tablet.
It lags a lot on SimCity Build it. I hope it gets better after Lollipop update.

[Q] does the galaxy s3 have lag ?

Hello, this is my first post in the Samsung section, i just sold my xperia sp, because it gave me a lot of head ache, always freezing and lagging, scrolling is laggy too, not always, but 70% of the time, specially when multitasking, and what i mean by multitasking is just every day usage stuff,
switching between messenger and facebook is really pain in the ass, very slow and laggy, scrolling on Facebook is very laggy most of the time and i have to re-install the app every few days to prevent it from being laggy again
when i first enable wifi or mobile date, the phone will freeze for 5 seconds, because it couldn't handle all the received notifications at the same time and i have to wait at least 15 seconds for the phone to settle
apps force closing on me, home icons disappearing, and sometimes i get a blank empty app drawer ... and many other horrible things this phone did to torture me
so my question is, will i face the same fate if i get a galaxy s3 ? i am mainly interested in the lte variant with 2gb of ram !! because i already know that the international variant is as slow as my sp , perhaps a little better .

Xperia sp is not a bad phone, it has 1.7ghz dual core krait by qualcomm. I'm wondering for a user who can make a thread on xda, why can't you handle your lag problem? Maybe with installing an aosp rom, or add some tweaks, or etc

you will not understand what i mean only after you use one , xperia sp is the slowest phone ever made, it's kernel and software are not optimized at all, the phone on paper is very nice, but in real life, it's a nightmare to use.
it tends to freeze and lag on the slightest tasks, like getting notifications and message from facebook, scrolling in messenger and facebook gets very very sluggish because of very bad software and very bad ram management, almost every time you use youtube , or facebook, when you press the home button, the home icons disappear for few seconds, also, in the morning, or after few hours with data/wifi off, when you turn one of them on, the phone will freeze for 10 seconds, and keep acting slow for other 10 seconds, bcuz it couldn'tt handle one messagee and two facebook or update norification..
the only thing that works nice on this phone is video games( adreno 320+720p) but it's useless most of the time in heavy games, asphalt 8 and modern combat5, rr3 always start to lag then crash to home beceause ram gets very low ( bad ram management ?)
tried all official available roms, trie all available custum roms, the phone still slow, but sightley better with lilttle more free ram
the only occasion where the phone is smooth is when wifi/data off, n o background apps, and exploring the menu , also after factory reset, but gets bogged down as soon as you install few social apps that always like to stay in background...
i hope you don't get xperia sp
i tried all tweaks, they don't help much..

Wew i don't know if it was that bad. I've tried Xperia L and i'm pretty satisfied with it's performance, but unfortunately it has a very bad screen quality. You can't use 2 fingers at the same time on it, nice phone but destroyed by ****ty screen LOL
Btw, how if xsp was compared to xl? I only can imagine xsp's performance with that way
i tried xperia s, sp, ion, and all of lag very bad after few weeks from a fresh install , even after fresh install, you can see it freeze when installing apps specially, or receiving notifications. all are the same ****. only sony phone i used that doesn't lag is xperia z1
no matter what it won't bog down, but it has ghost screen that sony won't fix, replaced the phone 3 times, and always i end up with the same ghost typing my screen when the phone heats up, so i sold it yesterday. now i think it's not worth paying much money for expensive phone, samsung s3 has nice screen, i am interrested in the i9305, my brother had the 9300 it was laggy too
so if you have 9305,, i ask if it lag or no, very simple question

Ive owned both, and I have to say the lte variant is a cracking phone! Best hardware in its time. Vs the moto g 2014 which can be picked up for around the same priced (although s3 lte will be used or refurbished to be as cheap) its great. The extra ram is the key here, thats why the sp (which I also have owned) sucks hard, as does the standard s3 on stock, although it was pretty good on cm11

Is it just me or Nougat on N9 is terribly slow and hot ?!

I've tried all previews and everytime I had to go back to M, the rom is slow and my N9 is very hot !
I thought it was the previews, but now I'm on final, and I have the same behavior.
Chrome is also verry verry slow and I have to kill if I wan't to use my tablet for something else.
Do you have this behavior on your tablets ?
No, in my case Android 7 is considerably faster than Android 5 and 6.
I get the same problems, plus some apps just decide to crash, last one to crash was Geekbench 3.
Also games are really laggy.
I flash the factory images with fastboot (erasing/formating everything) and my N9 is better now, but I'm still not convice that Nougat is ready for release.
Using chrome still makes the tablet very hot (and laggy).
It may be a chrome issue.
Funny enough i only really started to notice how slow the N9 actually is after replacing my phone with a OnePlus 3.
(yeah yeah it has a snapdragon 820 and is like 50x faster than the N9 regardless)
Overal though I've been noticing a massive degradation in my tablet's performance. Just 2 tabs in chrome is enough to start lagging it out. (Although I have the say the final Android 7 version seems considerably faster then the last Preview 5)
I'm just going to look look for a new tablet now. Because I doubt the problem is just chrome related. There just aren't many clean stock android tablets which is a real shame. But I am never buying a tablet with only 2gb RAM or a dual core again ever in my life.
Mine is pretty poor, im yet to use an android tab thats any good, can't really say its any worse since nougat but its no better either, way way slower than my phone and always has been, really dissapointed to be honest...
For me its like the Ram or processor just can't cope with even the most simple of tasks, mine's stock really considering rooting it and trying a lightweight rom to see if it improves it...
Same here... over time this device starts to get slow, especially when bringing up pages via google now or with Chrome.
Luckily, for me at least, clearing the cache resolves the slowness every time.
Yes, the Nexus 9 is slow on Nougat. Not as slow as the initial Lollipop release but still. The Nexus 9 performance seems totally inconsistent. At times it is blazing fast for an instant and then it starts stuttering. The slowdowns consistently occur when there are filesystem operations, like upgrading apps in the background.
Probaly because of nvidia soc, my nexus 5 is much faster when browsing etc. My nexus 7 was slow too even though its performance was great in benchmarks for its time
Yes. I like the split screen, often on the web with Evernote open. But, it's so slow.
Time for a custom rom?
Performance is much poorer on Nougat. Also seeing crashed. And when idle for a few hours, Wifi disconnects and doesn't reconnect when woke up.
Yes horrible on N, it gets hot and crashes! I don't love Tegra either. I think they are bad chips.
