6P battery degradation - Nexus 6P General

So, I had fantastic battery life on MM. After N, it has not been great. A lot of people report the same. I also talked to people that went back to M, but didn't see the benefits return.
What I'm thinking is that our batteries are quickly degrading at this point (if you've had it since launch or not long after). A couple months ago I ran Accubattery and it reported that my battery health was at 89%. I ran it just recent and now my battery is at 81% it's designed capacity.
Is it possible for a battery to degrade that quickly? Is this to be expected? I'm debating whether or not I should get my battery replaced or hold off and buy the OP5 when it comes out. Anyway, I love this phone.

Im experiencing the same problem as many users have it too .Accubattery reported that i have 56% of battery life , I don't know if it's accurate or not(don't forget accubattery measures battery life from software input through comparisons)...but in real life.. we really have a bad battery-life problem. technically, im convinced that it is a hardware issue( due to faulty battery or fast degradation...), because many Nexus 6p users have replaced the battery and it worked as it should.., but on the other hand, it is really weired that this issue has existed after nougat update! Moreover, some pixel users reported the same problem( different phone generation, different core hardware, different manufacturer, same software developer )and it was fixed by google in 7.1.2 as i read recently. I'm really confused ?

Have you noted a decrease with another phone using the same app? I have seen anyone use the battery capacity part of Accu outside the 6P. It could be the app measuring it wrong and the same readings could be happening to other phones as well.

I bought pixel xl for a Couple of weeks and then i returned it back...I used accubattery on it and it showed that I have 105% of battery life, but yes i feel its inaccurate

They definitely cut corners on the battery, Chinese electronics you buy online (tablets, etc.) are known for this and I feel like that's what happened here as well. I wonder if the people getting replacements are getting stock ones or from other companies, since I'm worried a stock one would have the same issues after a brief amount of time.

Can't speak for others, but from personal experience, the 6Ps that I have seen behave just like other phones. Unfortunately every phone manufacturer may have their issues, I have seen countless battery issues on other phones, including early shutdowns that has even plagued iOS devices.
It's a good thing that manufacturers offer warranty. Lemon law should also apply in those unrepairable situations.

It is definitely a much bigger issue on this phone... It is very common, while other phones may have issues, all do to some degree no doubt, it is a huge problem with the 6p and is happening to a very large number of people.

I can't say that I have only because I don't have another phone to test it on. It could be inaccurate, honestly. But there's no doubt that my battery life sucks compared to what it was on 6.0.1.

For a reason that pixel xl didn't convince me. With all the advantages of pixel xl( SD 821..outstanding battery life, superb camera performance) i felt it as an incremental upgrade!!! So paying worth of 700$ is unjustifiable, thus i took a decision even to go for OnePlus one 5 or to go for pixel xl 2
Another thing That flashing ROMs and adding mods are waaay easier than pixel phones.. its really pain in the neck if u did something wrong??.. This is my personal opinion.

Google sent out an internal memo to all support staff instructing them to accept returns after the warranty was over because of the battery problem. Its a know defect and something that is far more widespread than it happening to the odd phone.

I'm really considering getting the one plus 5. Pixel looks amazing but I can't justify the price tag

The Huawei battery that comes with the 6P is really bad considering many of them (like the one I had before I did the replacement) lose more than 50% battery capacity in less than 2 years and stop reporting precisely the % from 100% to 1% causing instants shutdowns.
I highly recommend you to replace your battery with a non Huawei battery like the X-Longer. It's as good as the stock battery when the phone is brand new. Now I honestly can't tell if this battery will lose less than 10% in 2 years (regular good batteries) or more than 10% in 2 years (Nexus 6P stock battery, at least many of them)

I did it myself. I've equipped before doing it.
- Cameron sino battery
- heat gun
- precision knife and one poker card
- and some generic repair tools.
The glass is not the worst part. It just requires patience I feel that I can remove the glass many times without an issue.
Now in my case...the removal of the cover was the most difficult part...
It's painful but I had a unusable brick before...(2 hours SoT and shutdown at 20%. Now I have a usable phone...4:30 SoT and shutdown at 1%. So I don't care if I estetically damaged a bit the corner).

I've had my 6P since the first month they shipped for Google Sept/Oct 2015. I had decent battery life until recently. Never experienced shutdowns or anything weird. I've been rooted since day one but running stock. Was on 7.0 until finally flashing April 7.1.2 the other day.
Installed Accubattery and health is at 60%. Since april update battery seems to drain far more rapidly. Usage is mainly web surfing via wifi.
Guess I need to find best available replacement battery soon. Is it ok to buy battery in advance and lying around for a few months before installing?
For best battery health what are do's and don'ts.
At home I often just left it plugged in while in use and or charged to 100% then again when down to ~30%. I'd leave it plugged in overnight. Is using fast charger all the time not good?

HTc one lifespan

Ok so I haven't upgrade yet, but I would like someone here to challenge my logic because I really like the aesthetics of the HTC one.
For a phone, I really like survivability. Especially a phone that can last for more than four years. One of the gripes I have with the HTC one was that it has a non-removable battery. At first, I didn't really mind since I can get portable chargers and what not. However, I then started to think about the long term quality of the battery. I would think that battery would start to degrade after two years.
With the S4, I can easily just slap a new battery when the old one starts to degrade.
I just want a phone that would last for four years and maybe potentially more.
You would possibly be the only person on earth that keeps a phone 2 or more years. The HTC one will definitely last as long as you need it too. Look at the iPhone, it has a non removable battery and it's very successful. I had my 4s almost two years and it needs a new battery; it says 100% but my battery stats app says it's really only charging to 70%. Im certain with only two years the battery has lost capacity. anyway, if you want a removable battery get the plastic s4, if you want a sturdy solid built phone that is probably one of the greatest android phones to date get the one. The battery life is really good, its been almost two days of moderate usage and I'm at 53%. It will be diff for every one.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
I agree. If you feel the removable battery is better for YOU than get it. I don't worry about it since I don't keep using my device that long. And even if I do pass it on to family I will just send the device in to get the battery replaced IF anyone cares to use it still. After a few years I doubt it though since my family will be using a newer device.
Out of all my smartphones the HTC One is my favorite. Great device. Glad I got the 64GB model.

Honestly none of us knows the lifespan on the HTC One as it's only been out a few months. Only time will tell. If you plan on sticking with a phone for 4 years, I suggest you get the S4 since the battery can be easily changed. Just remember that Samsung are known for having weak radios. (My old Note radio was going bad after one year).

given today's technology, asking for, or expecting, a phone to last 4 years is really pushing it. at that point, i dont think your battery is the biggest concern you should have. that said, i'll try to draw on some physics to help persuade you...this phone is made from aluminum, which is going to dissipate heat pretty well. I've noticed times when my One feels a bit warm after playing games or extended periods of streaming video, but then i check the temps and see that it's not unusually hot at all. I personally feel that the aluminum body helps to dissipate heat well and, theoretically, could help with the phone's longevity. I've done no scientific studies on this, but it's just a logic i'm applying from other cases of technology and heat with regards to product life. Think of it as a sort of heat sync for the phone. I've had SGS4's in my hands for a couple of minutes before and have felt them get extremely hot while messing around with the phone, FWIW.

My Skyrocket's power button causes the phone to restart. Hardware issue. The screen has gotten worse. Battery has lost its capacity. Glad that it lasted good for you but for me it didn't. Even my iPhone 4 lasted me through more besides the home button going bad. My girl's Note 2 home button is starting to go bad as well. I'm not saying that I won't ever get a Samsung again...just saying that I haven't had much luck with its durability in the past. This is my first HTC and so far I have no complaints. But we'll see after an entire year (if I don't decide to get the HTC maxx or Note 3)

Just got this in my email. As a person that used their battery on my galaxy note 2, 3, and 4, I am more than disappointed at how us nexus 6 users got a big middle finger then a weak response for extended battery.
If you don't need or care for extended battery then please don't comment. This is for users like me who do need or prefer extended batteries regardless of the bulkiness and extra weight

That is an INTERNAL battery. Unlike the Note Edge, the Nexus 6 DOES NOT HAVE A SWAPPABLE INTERNAL BATTERY. I am currently using the Zerolemon battery case for the Nexus 6 and it does what it needs to. If they had made it any bulkier, nobody would have purchased it.
That makes sense about the removable battery but still 3500 is pretty weak

You do realize that the 3500 is in addition to the 3220 that the Nexus already has right? That's 6720 total and almost as much as the 7000 in my galaxy S3 back in the day.

It doesn't actually work that way. There's a difference between using an extended battery and having a regular battery with extra 3500 charger. From experience the latter ends up using more battery somehow and making your phone hot

I've never had a heating issue with my battery cases on other phones. I haven't used one on the Nexus yet cause I got a TYLT charger for work.
Even if it's a "75%" increase its still a huge increase and knowing Zerolemon, it will be a great product. Too bad they took a year to release it and I'm already in "what's my next phone mode"

Is Samsung going to fix the OS battery drain that plagues the S7e? If not, it a deal breaker for me. I gave up the S7e for moto z force and the battery last at least 30% longer. Both phones have very similar size battery at 3600mAh & 3500mAh respectively.

not all s7e have the battery drain issue, if you have tried a full factory reset and tested the phone without installing extra apps and its still got battery drain then get a refund I guess. got heaps of apps on mine, like tasker and macrodroid and I don't really have any battery issues.

If that is true, they should have put a 20,000 mah battery in it before they sealed it up. 4.5 hours is going to hurt. Are they going to start selling a real backpack full of fuel cells?

If battery life is such a big concern, don't forget Samsung is going to offer a 3100mah wireless charging "backpack" http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/mobile-devices/smartphones/galaxy-note/galaxy-note7/accessories/.
How can you only get 4h or SOT when the battery is basically the same size as the S7e and the display is hardly any larger? I've got the S7e and it has the most amazing battery life of any phone I've ever used. I'm holding out on getting the Note 7 until there is some more data on just how long the battery last. If it really is 4h, then I'll give it a miss.
When I find the link I'll edit my post but someone has claimed, and been showing 5.5+ hours of SoT with everything running (BT, AOD, tons of apps in the background, etc.).
I wouldn't be too worried, it has a fairly large batt, and I doubt it's going to run a much shorter duration than the s7e, it simply wouldn't make sense.

Let's see a screenshot first.
I believe that some people don't have it for whatever reason (don't change a thing or you might find out what everyone is complaining about) but you're a tiny percent compared to those that do.
3500mah should easily get 7 if it weren't for the MM drain bug.
S6 with 2550 is easy 5 on LP. Barely 4 on MM.

All phone batteries go bad over time, the 6p just manifests it by dieing early. My wife's LG G4 scaled her % properly but she just got bad screen on time. A bad battery is a bad battery......

My phone started shutting down with the battery as high as 40%. I went to the Google store website, chatted with a support rep, and though I was technically out of warranty, they set up an RMA without any argument. My new phone arrived 2 days later, I transferred the data from my old one, and dropped it in the mailbox in the package the new one came in. My new 6p's battery life is great.
All in all, it was one of the better experiences I've had with any company's customer support. Heck, I even got a spare AC adapter and USB C cable out of it.
I don't know if it is hardware or software anymore. I replaced my battery in mid July with a Cameron Sino battery. During the eclipse this week, I had my phone taking time lapse photos (not directly at the sun). Shortly after the eclipse, I noticed my phone was off. I booted it back up, and checked the battery. I saw the same battery drop off at about 25%. My phone still had 18% after boot up.

And what is your battery capacity using Accubattery? CS batteries do have a good rep, but it's possible you got a dud or a knock off. Test it and see.

You have a bad battery, replace it and your good to go........ It's been discussed for months......... not a software issue
All phone batteries go bad over time, the 6p just manifests it by dieing early. My wife's LG G4 scaled her % properly but she just got bad screen on time. A bad battery is a bad battery......

Yes, I am aware that phone batteries get old and go bad. But I think false reporting how much juice do I have left is a software issue. It gets annoying when you don't know if your phone will turn off at 15% or 25-30%. In the last few months I stop touching it when it comes down to 30%, just to be sure.
I read about people that ordered new battery on eBay, along with all necessary tools for replacing it in the same package. I don't have a possibility for RMA in my country, I bought my 6P on eBay too, so that's probably a way to go for me.

I guess Google really let us down on this one. Not just battery issues but Nexus 6P as a whole. I was a nexus fanboy to say the least, but the kind of "support" Google showed for their flagship is embarrassing.

Looks like you are watching a whole bunch of Cat Videos.
Software cannot always work around hardware issues. Many different phones with other OS's do exactly the same when there is a battery issue (iOS is one which does exactly the same). If you have no warranty, then getting the battery replaced yourself is the only real option as it is hardware, not software at fault.
I'm convinced the processor is destroying the battery.. too much heat, too much drain

Too much charging is more likely a culprit. See lots of people charging phones to 100% several times a day when it has not really discharged that much. That will do more damage to a battery than anything.
That didn't go how you thought it would now did it OP?
The Nexus 6p is just really sensitive not sure what the battery does that makes it reboot. My first replacement battery gave me issues but the second one was fine. The only problem with the cheap ones is temp sensor doesn't work. But I don't feel its a huge loss. My suggestion buy a new battery the phones great. ?

How did he think it would go? I agree with the op, in the long run this phone has been disappointing. Google knows it, which is why they're still replacing them 2 years after the fact and there's a class action lawsuit pending.

How many of us use Oneplus 2 as the primary device?

It's already been more than 2 years since, OP2 was launched. I was curious how many of us still use this actively. This might also be helpful for developers who are currently developing for this device.

I had my device over a year and still going strong. I recently noticed that my device takes very long to charge. Dunno if it's the cable or battery. However there are alot of developers for this device and I hope it stays the same as the device gets older. I'm going to stay with this device until some hardware fails then look to upgrade to the op5 or later when that time comes

Got the device since February 2016. No protectors, no cases, custom ROMs from day one. Has some scratches on the sides, but is perfect anyway. Still getting decent battery life, the camera is really nice, loudspeaker is incredible, everything is fast and reliable. Currently on Unofficial RR 5.8.5. Oreo is coming at some point, probably at least as stable as nougat. I am actively looking for a new phone, but absolutely nothing that comes out newer seems to be worth it. It's perfect for me. Also, thank you to the devs that don't give up on the device development.

I'm using this since February 2017 and so far it's so good
Compared to my previous Xperia Z3, camera is better, battery backup is as good as Z3, overall speed is almost the same (some frame drops seen in games but i think it's OOS fault), software in some aspects has weakness but strengths at some others, loud speaker isn't comparable since Z3 was stereo, telephony is the same, Development is much better
I wish it had support for microSD card
Anyway it's quite good and i won't leave it until hardware problems appear and maybe my next phone will be OP3T
Using it since October 2015, though this happened yesterday PIC
I've been using mine for about a year. I'm looking for a new phone, but not in a hurry. Been on rooted Oxygen the whole time.
I'm using it as my primary device from last 1 year
still rocking my OP2 from release, even dropped it in water once still working for now, and one of the best custom rom communitys !
Proud op2 user.

Try downloading ampere from play store, you should get about 1000mv charging, if less try another cable.

With stock OP2 charger or any 2.4 AMP charger and a good high quality cable you should get 1800 mA on Ampere app. Not 1000.

It's like you've got no idea what you're talking about.
You're talking about the app Ampere, which measures your current in milli Ampere and you're talking about milli Volts.
The app won't give you the best readings, mine was shifting between 1500mA and 1700mA and sometimes it would drop to 400mA. Best is to use an usb voltage/ampere meter.

:silly:
It's an easy way to make sure your charger and cable are not completely stuffed. If your getting over 1000ma then things are working well enough at the end of the day.
But thankfully with your immense wisdom the world we be a better place :highfive:
Oneplus 2 is my daily driver since August 2015
I'm using OP2 from august 2015, i bought this mobile wen it launched in india. I was the frst user who bought this mobile in my native, i'm very happy for that. :good:
I loved the mobile till date
Using Last 2 year.... Great OP2
I have had my OP2 as my primary device for a week now. Before that I tried several custom ROMs and used OP2 with Desolation ROM for about two months as a secondary device. I had Sony Xperia Z5 Compact as my "phone" and OP2 as my "camera". But now I feel I can trust OP2 enough to carry only one device with me.
I am curious. I'm looking to replace the phone my son is using (ZTE ZMax Pro from MetroPCS). I replaced the screen a couple of months ago cause it was cracked and now his phone dies any where from 40 to 60 percent battery left. I think I might have damaged the battery prying it out to get to the screen. Anyway, would the OP2 be a decent phone for him? He's only 13. The ZTE is a 6" screen, so that'll be a step down for him, but the fingerprint sensor would be on par. I've gotten my wife a OP3T, and really like it (and she loves it). The price on Swappa seems about right for the OP2 (less than $200, with the only one available right now at $165). I want to get him a phone that'll last him at least a year, if not more. Development still seems pretty good.

Dev is good 8.1 is working great with pixel experience.
Battery is pretty great as well.
I have been using A2003 for more than two years now and I'm going to echo someone else's opinion here. I'll be using this device until some hardware get busted or I lose it. This is my only and primary device Thanks to all the developers for their work and support Hope to more love showered!!
