Damn, it took me 15 days to unlock my device.
Did you tried binding account? Find my device? Adding Nickname on to mi forum? Latest unlock toolkit? Etc... ~ your answer is yes!!
So, I suggest you to wait few days, do not try every day. Give Xiaomi servers time to sync your device's details.
Try few days later, 3-5....You'll see positive results eh.

Read every step and do as said. Skip the "maybe/can/could" parts. You would not have any problem.

if all else fails, as it did for me try this method
0) Wait permissions to unlock
1) Download FlyVPN in the Google Play Store!
2) Select the Shangai 02 server and connect.
3) Restart the device
4) Re-open FlyVPN and reconnect on the same server
5) Go to Developer options in menu device and try to bind the device...
If it's ok
6) Use MiUnlock tool to unlock the bootloader.

get the marshmallow version of beta rom. Only marshamallow beta can be flashed from updater. i learnt this the hard way. then you can update to the latest nougat dev. then from the beta, after like 5 days from getting the message, you can probably unlock with mi flash without even binding. good luck..

Don't feel too bad. Developers don't have a Redmi 3S device for testing their ROMs. You may not know how to compile ROMs but you can still help. You can donate a Redmi 3S to them.

You dont need to be in the beta program nor even have an unlocked bootloader to flash the latest beta. Check the link below :
http://www.miui.com/download-354.html
Create a folder called downloaded_rom , place the downloaded zip into the folder. Go to your update screen in the phone, click the 3 dots top right , choose "choose update package" and locate your zip file.
Sit tight and it will flash. Data will be deleted. If you get encryption error or something when choosing the zip, just retry a few more times.
I didn't root mine but you can root it from the phone itself if you're using the developer beta rom. Under permission - app settings.
Cheers.

Still no fix for notifications. Incoming message and email notifications still disappear after a couple of seconds. Surely Xiaomi know about this problem and could easily fix it it, or am I just being naive?
You're right. They works only on Dev (last 9.6.27) but Xiaomi close develope, so it should works better on Stables (Global and EEA).

Yes you can without unlocking nothing,i did it between yesterday and today,i was with stable rom flashed dev rom via updater and didn't like it, than i flashed back stable rom again in updater.
In that case I'll stick with the one I'm on, never done anything like that before, sounds a bit technical to me.

If you are on Global Developer, simply download Global Stable from Mi Download (search for it online), so you are going to have 10.2.11.zip file on your internal memory. Go to updater app and choose install package, then select zip file and accept to install, it will format your data.
