I come here as a ZTE Axon 7 brother, a little brother for that matter. Please Read - ZTE Axon 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello, we are drvsbsm and she is Sarah we are visitors of the Axon 7 Mini Community we have endured endless setbacks for many months trying to at least get our Axon 7 Mini’s rooted, we would love to have what you have been able to do but ZTE will not help us, they say they are thinking about letting us unlock our bootloaders, but we cannot trust them as they have been saying this for months and that is why I have come here with a question from our forum members to ask for anyone with experience to help us with the Axon 7 Mini we would be very grateful. We don’t believe ZTE because they won’t even give us any help in our discoveries. We would enjoy just to have root access and if our Bootloader could become unlockable we could finally feel like our device is finally ours. We have put in many months of work at the forums and we wish it would have meant something more, we do not have the developers with the experience that you have with the Axon 7. I don't usually do this as you can see by my post count and my thanks for helping others I usually help other people when they are in need, but this time we as your XDA Brothers are in need. The only ZTE device that ZTE has let us unlock the bootloader was the Axon 7, if we can’t get them to continue to let us unlock future ZTE devices we most likely won’t get to again, hopefully we can convince them now that they are better off with an open community, they can ask OnePlus about that. Ask yourself why would they not let us unlock the bootloader on the Axon 7 Mini, I can’t figure that out especially when they let you unlock the Axon 7. The Axon 7 Mini is an incredible device that has a lot of untapped potential.
Very few people know about this but over a year ago I owned the Original “ZTE Axon Pro” they also then had another device called the “ZTE Axon” it was their non-pro version and they would not let us root or unlock that device either it was basically the same as the Axon 7 and the Axon 7 Mini but they would not help the regular or the pro version. That phone was $400 and the regular Axon was $300 the “ZTE Axon Pro” was their flagship device last year I had one for 6 months, it had a Snapdragon 810 in it and the battery life was terrible. So, I sold it for $180.
I’m pretty sure that ZTE won’t help us Axon 7 Mini users to unlock or root our devices. So, we at the Axon 7 Mini forums are asking for your help maybe with your developers and experience you will be the one who unlocks the code we have been trying so hard to do. I came here because I thought that we were the XDA community and our Developers could do whatever we wanted if we stuck together and tried hard enough.
Hopefully you will help us in anyway that you can. I heard there was a ZTE forum, I will visit there next maybe someone could spread the word for us Axon 7 mini friends, I would appreciate it a lot. thank you. If anyone can do this they would be a hero in our minds, if not the Axon 7 Mini will have a very short life cycle and ZTE are not at all innocent. I will continue to do what I can, I may visit this ZTE forum to speak on our behalf, I won’t even say the word ZTE anymore its AXON 7 and Axon 7 Mini to me from now on, but I'm also in the middle of learning to root and rom my Oneplus 3T, but I will not give up on the Axon 7 Mini just yet, even though it has been 6 months of no forward progress.
We need the Axon 7 Developers if they think they are up for the challenge if they could at least get our devices rooted, or would that be too hard for them also? Please Ask the Axon Developers in this Forum to please help in the spirit that XDA-Developers has become such a special place for everyone who has a problem with their phones to help and to get help.
Find us here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7-mini Please come anyone is invited hopefully a really good developer will find his way over to us and our forums, that would be great could you imagine what they could do with our phone they would be the king of our community if they got it rooted and the bootloader unlocked. I admit they would have to be pretty good of a developer because we had our own few good developers looking at the Axon 7 Mini for months and they didn’t come up with anything maybe we should not think that anyone can do this.
Here are the specs to our Axon-7-Mini if anyone here are familiar I’m going to show them.
The Specs of The - ZTE Axon 7 Mini
The ZTE Axon 7 Mini was announced in September 2016. It is an entry level version of ZTE's 2016 flagship Axon 7. It features a 5.2" 1080p AMOLED display, Qualcomm Octa-Core Snapdragon 617 chipset, 3GB RAM and 32GB of UFS 2.0 internal storage. The rear camera has a 16MP sensor with f/1.9 aperture and phase detection autofocus, while the front has an 8MP sensor and f/2.2 aperture. The ZTE Axon 7 Mini is powered by a 2705mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0, and comes with a USB Type-C port.
It is basically the same as your phone but of course it is a Mini version it is really nice but it is missing one very important thing, Root Privileges and an Unlocked Bootloader. Developers of these forums if you wish for a challenge and you are not busy and you think you can possibly do the job please have a try at it whenever you are ready. Do you think it is that they don’t have the phone to work on we would have to get a very well respected developer a phone to work on but I think we could do that? Please Axon 7 forum members Please come see us. https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7-mini

Wiko ufeel, or Samsung A3 (2016), or ... - please advice before I buy

Please advice me what to buy. I want an android-without-google phone. With e.g. cyanogenmod, or any other. I am good with computers, and coding, but myself I have no clue yet about Android development.
The Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) seems better supported in this forum - so perhaps a fully functional ROM will appear earlier? True?
But it has only 1.5 GB RAM. All specs here.
The Wiko ufeel is cheaper and looks like the more powerful hardware (e.g. 3 GB RAM), all specs here, and their marketing stuff.
But xda-developers.com does not even have a subforum for Wiko yet? Does that perhaps mean, it is unlikely there will be a ROM soon?
But both have non-removable batteries, which sounds really idiotic.
Which other phone would you suggest in that price range, with similar specs? For which there is already (or soon will be) a fully functional alternative ROM?
I am asking because I own a Sony xperia E1 (yes, I know, stupid me), and even after 21 months there is no ROM ready. This time, I want to be cleverer, and first check the forums, before I buy the hardware.
What do you suggest? Any hint much appreciated!
Thanks a lot for your time!
P.S.:
Another (much pricier, probably too much for me?) suggestion was the Sony Z5 compact, but after my E1 experience I am not a big Sony fan anymore... (?)
But yes, all 3 phones are "small" - I really don't want a semi-tablet sized telephone.
Hi,
Out of the three phones I would advice the Sony Z5 compact... it's an amazing and solid device .... By far the best out of the three. If you are reluctant because of the experience you had with the E1, relax ... it's totally different. On the very plus side, the development is quite alive for all Sony device and you will probably extend it's longer then the other ones.
If you find out that you can't get, because it cost double the price of the 2 others. I would recommend the Wiko ufeel.
One friend of mine have it and I played a bit with it. It's a solid device. Beautiful (yes it depends), smooth, fast. The screen is not that great (not to say poor). Main camera do a descent job, not outstanding. Battery life is average by my standards (better than my LG G3, worst then the OP2)
... But you will probably never have a custom ROM for it here on XDA. To get it rooted we spend more then 2 weeks ... finally got it rooted with some Russian forums (used G-translate to read).
I would never recommend a Samsung device ... never ever. BULL****.
Depending on you taste and budget, have a look to the OPPO A37 and Huawei P9 lite. I dont know which country you are in, but they should be available all over the world.
My rating:
1. Sony Z5 compact
2. Huawei P9 lite
3. OPPO A37
4. Wiko ufeel
5. A3 (2016)

Need help buying phone

Hey guys.
I have been a user of an LG G2 for the past three years and I must say it has served me amazingly well. It still functions awesomely but the wear and tear of the years is starting to become more apparent lately, so I'm thinking it's time for a new one.
Since I am not able to buy a flagship phone right now, I have to resort to a budget choice.
So what would be the best phone under 300€? I am based in Europe btw.
Currently I am in between the ZTE Axon 7 Mini, LG G5 SE, P8 Lite 2017, Honor 8 and Honor 6X, but any other suggestions will of course be appreciated.
Since the G2 is such an old phone, I can imagine that any one of these phones will feel like an upgrade in terms of performance, so what I value most right now is 1) the camera and 2) general build quality.
So basically, which is the overall best of the budget phones that has the best camera out of the bunch?
I'm leaning towards the Honor 6X because of its camera. What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance!

FINALLY!!!
Been waiting long to get a new device, if they keep the base as good as the Axon 7 and just upgrade it it will be phenomenal.
Definitely saving up already for this. Hopefully it has a similar design to the Axon 7 with upgraded specs
Unfortunately, it seems to be following the "iPhone X" Notch trend and not a unique design as with the the axon 7. Nonetheless, the Axon 9 is almost here!
Guys, check out the Pocophone F1.
It's the perfect axon successor for me.
And at only 300$.
There are pics leaked around the internet now.
I just checked out the new leak, and I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed. I'll see what the regular model has to offer instead of the pro variant.

Unfortunately not.
Those teased images of the Axon 9 are pretty ugly to me. Poco F1 seems to be a very intersting successor for the Axon 7
If these images are real, the is going to be a major flop. Just a lazy copy of the iPhone X.
I guess i gonna skip this generation of phones and stick to my A7, because i want front facing stereo speakers and a at least 1440p Amolad display for Daydream. This is the Pixel the only phone that delivers, but it is way too expensive of course.

I fully agree with you.
IMO Axon 9 probably ain't gonna be bang/bucks as Poco F1. For me in this moment (before 30.08) Poco F1 Kevlar 8/256 all the way - hands down. Even without DAC, it still have stereo, jack, SD card. Axon 9 will be competitive if will have same components but with DAC and may with better screen than Poco F1.

Yup, I've read it will be dev friendly somewhere, can't find the article right now.

Just on the front page of XDA labs
ZTE Axon 9 pro benchmark test revealed
https://www.phonearena.com/news/ZTE-Axon-9-Pro-specs-benchmark_id108096
No notch, no curved screen.
Big battery (4000mah+), dual front facing speakers, dual sim, mSD support, good camera, unlockable bootloader, tons of LTE bands support.
Sadly the closest thing is the ASUS ROG, I'm ok paying a premium for such specs (I'm not even a gamer).
I will not pay $500+ and end up with a phone that lacks any of my requirements.
I replaced the battery in my axon 7 a while ago, will probably replace it one more time a year from now or so. Then just buy mid ranger phones if this shi**y trend keeps happening with notches, curved screens, no headphone jack..etc
Can't say i like the notched phones , the 9 will no doubt be a good phone but I am more than happy with the 7 . I have never managed to put the 7 under enough strain that I would be unhappy with its performance so unless I end up breaking it I can't see me replacing it any time soon .2k screen is only good for VR ,my eyes can't see a difference between 1080 and 2k unless I get the VR on.
I have to say though Xiaomi does make some good phones , I got my wife the Redmi note 5 global with duel cameras and tall screen with no notch! and I am a little jealous . Its fast enough as well with the SD636 and audio is not bad . Metal build with none of this glass backed crap , what is it with these brands that think the more expensive the phone the more they remove ,IE no head phone jack no SD card fragile material and small battery .
I bought the Axon 7 the day it came out it was a no brainer at the price and quality. What a great buy I love this phone still today I take the case off once in a while just to feel the aluminum body, so sweet.
If these images and stats are correct for the Axon 9 I will not be buying this phone it doesn't have the appeal, it`s to bad they didn't stay with the same design as the 7, the design that we all rave about. Don`t screw with a good thing I say, too bad really.

If you were to change...

Hi folks I just shattered the screen of my Redmi Note 3 SD version (RN3). I had this phone since early 2016 and though it's still working and I could prolly do a service job on it for $50 and extend its life to a year or so I feel sticking to this phone any further wouldn't be to my advantage.
So I'm in the market for a new phone and I would really love to hear your precious advise so I may get the best available option for my hard earned bucks.
My budget is around $350. I'm not a brand fan boi, I don't mind going for unknown brands if the build quality is there. B/C with a good build quality you can get the best out of your phone under XDA. So when I go for a smartphone the features I pay attention to are:
1-If the phone can handle recent games. If a phone can handle recent games odds are high that it will perform well in everyday life.
2-It must have a great community under XDA so that if the manufacturers aren't arsed to push updates, you can still get the best out of your phone by for e.g flashing a custom rom or the Google cam or flash the latest security patch and so on.
3-The camera specs should be good (not expecting pixel3 stuffs or p30 results), but should be able to take good shots when I go on road trips.
Having said that, phones that have caught my eye so far are the Huawei Y9(2019 version) and the Xiaomi Poco Phone F1. So what do you lads think!
The Huawei Y9 is out as per your stated requirements as they don't even allow bootloader unlocking. There might be unofficial methods. Poco F1 looks to be the best choice but I don't know if the initial issues like backlight bleeding, touch latency etc have been fixed. Redmi Note 7 Pro is another decent option but the price difference between its 6GB model and Poco F1 base variant is too little. Realme has opened up BL unlocking but the pace of development doesn't seem very encouraging. Otherwise the Realme 3 Pro appears to pack solid hardware. Dunno when the Poco F2 will be launched.

Thanks for input. I though pretty much the same Poco F1 would be the best option!

Wait for Mi A3 . not sure its launching date. it is android one device. Bootloader unlocking is very easy for android one phone.
Updates will given by google and not xiaomi. Also u will get 3 android updates. Spec will be same like rn7 pro.
Or buy rn7 pro. It has QC 4.0 charging and 4000mah battery.
From Kenzo, I used Tissot which is Mi A1 and now lavender which is Redmi Note 7.
Redmi Note 7 aka lavender as of now has very minimal development going on based on xda threads available. But the good thing is that it supports treble so gsi will provide you with a lot of custom rom and me myself is using a GSI now. Violet aka Note 7 Pro on the other hand has a better development than lavender. It has great camera too considering you are using gcam to full utilize the camera and also lavender's camera is Greta as well but not as good as violet. Lavender has Snapdragon 660 and violet has Snapdragon 675.

Declaration REALME vs ONEPLUS

Welcome. It will be a great phone! better than one plus "one" at a time. I want to give REALME the same chance I gave oneplus when they started. One plus is just an emotion. Where is the 5% xioami margin and one plus. We know that the phone creates programmers with brands that open the source code and kernel source code. We work together and I know that one day this phone will be better than one plus EUR 919
Really impressed by the price of REalme x50 pro, but when i came to see how its doing in XDA with modders support, Realme is really disappointing me from buying this amazing phone.
Yeah, wanted to buy the phone, then I came here, and found Realme doesn't have a development team, I bought the Redmi K30 Pro instead. More expensive, doesn't charge as fast, but 3rd party ROM is what's more important to me than anything else.

I also was disappointed in Realme's development support. So much so, I abandoned the idea of buying this cool phone (sure the OS would be okay for about a year max, but I want to have 2+ years like my OnePlus 5T) and bought a OnePlus 7T instead.
This phone caused me frustration
I'm thinking hard to go back for one plus
Very impressed with the OnePlus 8 Pro...
