Ma hovering around 250-500 while charging off - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

I believe I have a broken USB charging port on my device, or possible the battery (but praying it's software)
Have tried multiple chargers/cable combinations and most of the time it hovers around 260-640mA. Often charging when it's off it loses battery. Seems if I wiggle it a bit sometimes I get a constant connection. When I leave it in fastboot mode I might get 50% charge of 12hrs. Anything else I'm missing to try this?
Sometimes when I run ampere it shoots up to 1240mA but drops slowly down after every refresh
I live in Austrailia where we don't have any Xiaomi support centres however it's still under warranty (10months old 2months to go) but would have to send back to China for assessment and fear they might just say it's my fault for bending the pins.
Thanks in advance

It sounds like a faulty USB port. No worries, a replacement is very cheap and easy to replace. It may be even cheaper if you replace USB socket but this requires soldering skills.

40 pin connector issues

So my tablet stopped charging yesterday. I know a lot of people are having issues with their wall charger, but I think my problem is due to the 40 pin connector. It looks like two or three of the pins got bent (not sure how). Every time I plug it in, it has a light crunching feeling. The wire to tablet connection is not sturdy at all and tends to bend downwards due to a lack of support in the tablet. Asus is sending me info on how to return the device. The tablet has been amazing other than this poor design. Anyone else having this issue?

Mine wouldn't charge/transfer data but that's because the connector fell apart. Not sure how your pins managed to get bent, but it should be easily rectified via RMA. Until you get your new charger you could probably snag an OG TF charger and use that. However, I would also check the socket on the Prime itself, see if there is anything "odd?" going on in there that could have bent the pins (and possibly do it again once you get another charger).
same problem here- I started another thread. the tablet will no longer charge. It was intermittent at first. sometimes it would stop charging without ever removing the charger or 40 pin connector from the device.
I don't know if it is just a bad charger/cable , or if there is something wrong internally on the tablet. I will be shipping mine back for full refund from where i purchased, unless there is something else to try?

[Q] Charging Port bugs

I have a issue where when i plug my charger in it doesnt do anything.. but if I bend the charger down it works fine. Do i need to bend the pin in the phone up with tweezers?
I read around where If you have this issue with the charging port then its gone. But my phone still charges fine. I dont want to go poking and bending and break something and it doesnt charge at all.
Just a little advice.
I have the rogers galaxy note I727r
Try a different cable first. They wear out and loosen quicker than the port. Do not go poking and bending or you will be replacing the usb component on the phone for sure.

i tried 5 different cables and one of which is the official samsung cable... no dice.
It sounds as if you need a charge port repair .....but
Before the device goes out .....try this ....
With a very small and flat object .....you can slightly bend the outer edge of the charge port on the side that does not contain the joining seam, or break in the port ...
The slight bend will tighten the cable tip, as it slides into the port, and create a better contact patch...
But be careful !!!......as you can damage the port if you get too aggressive ....
The bend occurs on the long flat side of the device port ...opposite the port seam ....g
P.S.....Proceed at your own risk ....but it worked perfect for me ...g
Just remember, your phone is under warranty. Might just be better to let them take care of it. But if you get brave here is the part:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Chargin...998?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d4f7ccbe
Not that difficult to get to either. There are a few videos on youtube for disassembly instructions.

i boughtit as a used phone.. is there a picture that you can show the outer edge?
If you contact Samsung instead of ATT your warranty should be honored still. But it would be cheaper to buy the board and fix it yourself then to pay for shipping to a samsung repair center unless you have one nearby. I have no better pictures of the usb port.
Nor do I .....
If you hold the phone while looking into the charge port ...( screen up )....
The part you slightly bend is the bottom of the charge port ...
Don't pry against the case ....just slightly bend the bottom portion up .....with a small tipped object ..
A dull knife tip works well .....g
Yeah.. two mornings ago, I woke up to a phone in it's dying throes of battery life.. having been on the charger all night.
It's been a little touchy with certain cords for the past month or so but now, it doesn't matter which of the many available charger cords I have, from brand new to the original - none of them make the phone thing to charge or connect it via USB to a computer.
It's dead Jim.

[Q] USB charging not working, data connection working

I have found the Xperia Z2 to be an extremely slippery phone and it dropped to the floor quite a few times already, but the last fall seems to have finally damaged it. Now, when I connect it through USB to either a PC or power outlet, it will no longer charge. I can exchange data with my PC, view the external storage etc. just fine, but the charging icon will keep appearing and disappearing irregularly, about once per second. Meanwhile the battery gets drained instead of charged.
I now charge my phone through the magnetic port one the side of the phone, which is working fine. I would like, however, to know if there is a way to repair the USB port of my phone.
Many thanks

Seems like hard to repair. You would need to disassemble the whole device. I'd suggest you send the phone for warranty repair. Just do not mention you let it fall

Look into the Z2 disassembling videos, but I guess you should bring the device into a professional phones repair service.
@MrTheMan I think I know what bricked your USB port. The damage wasn't from the fall, you just connected the Magnetic charging cable upside down... Didn't you?
If you keep tightly in some points, dies it charge then? If not and still charges intermediate then there are two things. Either one of the lines if the port is damaged or the battery is of center. Remove and reconnect. First clean it's contacts with.a brush and pure alcohol. Do the same on the port.
Mine does the opposite, USB is fine(as long as I disconnect at 100% and don't charge with MHL adapter) but magnetic has the issue.

Hi,
I did connect my magnetic charging cable upside down. And my magnetic port is messed up now. It keeps charging and discharging when connected. It doesn't charge from a USB port and i need to plug in the adapter to a wall outlet for it to charge.
Is there anything i can do to fix this?

If I remember correctly there is one diode on the PCB that get's damaged :/
I have the same problem, due to magnetic charger..
Surely this is covered by warranty? I'm still under warranty so I will try to get a replacement.
How could they design it so poorly that it can be damaged like this....

Oh, I search some info. The diode just allow electric current pass one direction only. No wonder my XZ2 keep restart after I pressed shutdown because the diode allow the electric current from battery can pass through in opppsite way.
I don't believe it is a hardware problem. You dropped the phone but the USB port is not likely to be physically damaged by a knock. I had the same problem, on a Z2 provided by my company. I have requested a change, got a new one and in a few days the second handset had the same issue too. Two phones, both new, both never dropped, used with maximum care, both with the same problem. The second one wasn't even charged more than a couple of times before failure. And I had tried it as soon as I had it in my hands, just to be sure it worked, and it did, at first. I connected it to a laptop thru USB port (3.0) and it charged. Then updated apps and system to Lollipop, connected it again and it failed. In a couple of days. I'm sure nothing physical happened, unless my USB port fried it. Notice however, that data connection is working perfectly and everything else I connecrt to that port works as well.
I have some mag chargers too, and I don't believe I've ever connected them upside down. The plug is made in such a way the it does not connect if reversed, having one contact circular shape and the other elliptical.
I checked on the Web and there is a number of Z2 owners complaining for the same issue: there's even a video on Youtube showing this exact behavior. Sony seems to ignore it.
I must admit, however, that I'm unable to explain why a factory reset does not solve the problem. Now I'm trying to flash a stock ROM (mine is branded Telecom Italia) and see what happens.

Did you repaired your device. Please relpy this
Phone 2 years.
1. Charged through the USB port on the network 220 (native charger):
It reaches 81-83% of charge and starts to go crazy: flashing red LED charging and says that is / is not going to charge.
In fact, no charges.
I tried different cords and chargers - so everywhere is going crazy with a 80% interest
2. Charged via USB from the cigarette lighter in your car or the external battery:
It's okay - safely charged up to 100%
3. Charged through the magnetic cable:
It's okay - safely charged up to 100%
These are symptoms of what is dying?
Thank you!

Has anyone successfully recovered from the sudden no charging/USB connection issue?

I'm wondering if anyone has suffered with and recovered from the sudden case of no charging/USB>PC recognition?
I've seen countless similar stories across the web, covering many of the Z Family. Some were simple reset jobbies, and I've seen as in-depth as what I'm assuming is an IC being removed, flux cleaned and re-applied (w ww .you tube. com/watch?v=ZyCeNfc99a0).
I purchased a new charger port and also a new battery, as I figured with all the insane constant burning of my pocket, it could use a new one. I'd hoped it was just a charger port issue, but much to my dismay, the issue still persists after fitting them.
I've tried every single button combination "fix", and all to no avail. Multiple leads, charger units, all that polava. Checked and cleaned connections with isopropyl alcohol, checked for burned-out looking mainboard components, at least those that are visible.
I was having minor inconsistent charging issues for a while, up until last Friday. I figured it was the USB port on the phone or the leads, and put it down to general wear and tear.
Last Friday I was at my mates house with super low battery, popped it on charge round his and I noticed it had died completely and kept boot cycling, like the charger was being plugged in and taken out over and over.
I took it out and tried it when I got home with the regular charger, and nothing. My phone is otherwise in mint condition and has been looked after since day one release in the UK.
I'm wondering if some super helpful person here would possibly have some other alternatives that haven't been mentioned, whether a hardware bypass or some trick that isn't amidst the countless cries for help out there.
Many thanks in advance.
Hello,
I have a problem when connecting to a charger it will go in strange charging mode that actually does not charge. It makes the sound like a charger is connected, no charging animation on battery though...
The problem for me it was the USB cable used for charging (i have changed 5 of them in 1 and a half years). Also same behavior happens when using a under 1A wall charger.
P.S. : The USB cables that i have changed they still work fine with other devices/phones .... but not with my Z5C. I`m not sure what but is definetly something wrong withe phone usb port (and it is not dirt).
no, but
I cannot get a usable USB connection to my computer, but if I hold Volume Up while connecting the USB cable to the computer, the charger LED turns red for a moment, then blue. It WILL charge in this mode, which I think is fastboot mode. Someone said it bypasses the charge circuitry or software, which makes me think that maybe I could go into developer mode and turn on OEM unlocking to see if I can stop it from trying to optimize charging. I also have not tried all the USB connection modes yet.
I tried to charge with this blue light technique on the wall charger, but that did not work. Just ran the battery down again and I could not boot the phone.
I know if I press Volume Down while connecting the USB cable to my computer that the charger LED turns green, but I am not sure it will charge in that mode. I think this is for flashing or something, but since my computer does not recognize the USB device no matter what I do, I don't think flashing is an option.
Oh, and when I do charge the phone with the blue light special (old obscure USA discount retailer reference), for some reason the charger LED flashes white every 4 to 5 seconds, but it seems to keep enough charge to get me through at least the day until I can charge again by same method.
Maybe we can keep pooling info here. I got the blue light technique from someone else on this site, so there are people here who know quite a bit about this phone, thankfully.
Well, I had that issue, too (at least it sounds pretty familiar).

Does your phone also believe to be connected to "something" all the time?
I fear there is some IC fried, although I never dared to open my phone.
My "solution" was to talk my local salesman into giving me a (used, but working) replacement phone, and I did not want him to find any traces of DIY
So, no, I never found a technical solution, probably they just scrapped my phone for spare parts, idk.
The root cause for my error (probably) was a faulty charger, therefore I am pretty sure I fried something hardware-like, but depending on your cause, ymmv.
Anyway, trying to clean your USB port, re-soldering the connector and/or replacing the battery sounds like being worth a try, anyway.
// edit: "cat /sys/class/power_supply/usb/present" used to always output 1, even when not connected. On my now-good Z5C this works like it should (connected ->1, not connected -> 0)
Hey people. I have tried all the tricks for several days. Tried several charging cables. Nothing worked for me. I just brought a new phone, and it came with a cheapo charging cable. Decided to plug it into my Xperia and it worked. Maybe a little fairy fixed my phone when I was out buying a new one. Anyway, I'm love my Xperia Z5. Using it right now. Good luck people

USB completely stopped working

So as others have posted here, I've got serious USB issues for months now. I first thought it's the cold weather, but after a week or three with nice weather above zero all the time, and now even 16C I still have issues. I tried to find the issue today, and removed everything from the radio that could interfere. Nothing at all!
I have a USB hub that I connect with a LED in it that indicates there's power. That LED is always on when I plug it in, so there's power, but the HU detects nothing that I plug in. Not with, or without the hub. Nothing from TPMS or DAB+. The USB Controller app also detects nothing.
Everything is screwed down properly it seems, and giving a push on everything doesn't change anything. I'm on the latest Malysk ROM with the so-called software fix, but that doesn't help either. Also manually executing the fix doesn't help. Even resetting the USB via the app doesn't work anymore.
I'm afraid my USB just completely died on my now. I've tried to reboot a few times, and still nothing.
I really don't want to lose DAB+ and TPMS. That's really useful if you're used to it. Going back to commercials and muddy sounds from FM is such a shame!
Any idea what I can do? I don't think I can replace the USB chip myself without ruining the complete unit. Replace SoM? Replace motherboard? Buy a new unit? Is anyone aware of new units with the proper USB chip? Maybe those PX6 ones?
btw, checked my board and it says HCT-PX5-REV4.0.
And now my sound is completely screwed up as well. Very soft and without bass. As if my amp doesn't really start anymore, anyone an idea which wire to check for that?
To me it sounds as if your MCU does not work properly. I guess that you have a faulty soldering joint. USB devices can draw quite a current from the board. It may be that this caused a soldering joint to crack.
I would go for an optical inspection first. Check if the SOM is plugged in properly and that no capacitors are blown as well.

Already tried and check that. Nothing weird to see.
But guess what?! It suddenly worked now for 2 days!! Why/how?! It's so unreliable, not sure when it will break again.
It really looks like either temperature or soldering issues. I would go for an optical inspection, just to make sure that no wires are loose or pins are broken.

Already checked. Nothing weird to see. It has been 10+ degrees for weeks so I doubt it's the temperature.
I don't mean the outside temperatures. The unit heats up while being used. This causes bad soldering joints to get loose. Perhaps it is also a good idea to check the voltage supply. There should be some sort of voltage regulator that heats up. If e. g. the 5V regulator fails, your unit will show such a behaviour. I vaguely can remember that on the S160 units there was sometimes such an issue. Somewhere around here there were some schematics. Search for them.

I've got a 12V big fan on top and heatsinks on everything. The CPU never goes above 50C.
But I doubt heat is an issue after a few seconds when the system has booted.
Ah, then the MCU crashed during boot. Does your car interrupt the ACC power while cranking? If so it is a good idea to add a relay box that switches permanent battery voltage over to the ACC line for a few seconds. I am using this one: https://www.amazon.de/Phonocar-Spannungsstabilisator-Fahrzeuge-Start-Automatik/dp/B00AK95QUA
This is an actual relay, not just some diodes and capacitors.
