Phone won't boot! please help - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Hi guys
So the phone was working just fine, I wanted to update TWRP and I think I got the wrong image by mistake (I think I downloaded the Mi5 ZCX twrp), flashed it with flashify and when I rebooted nothing shows on the screen, the phone keeps vibrating every 10 seconds and when it's connected to PC I can hear it connecting then disconnecting after 2 seconds when it vibrates, I can't go into recovery nor bootloader, DID I JUST BRICK MY PHONE PERMANENTLY?
Please help guys..

Hi guys
I've fixed the issue using SP flash tool, downloaded the latest MIUI 8.1.7.0 Global Stable for MTK and tried to flash it using SP flash tool, plugged the cable in just after the phone vibrates, the flashing doesn't go all the way but it somehow reset the phone and it booted up to the system with no issues, I re-flashed the correct TWRP for my device and all is good now.
Thank you

1. Your device isn't booting, it's just pops up mi logo when we long press Power button.
So, the solution?
I'm telling you one thing that, I don't know about flashing Miui roms, I'll suggest you to flash custom rom, there after you can flash Miui once you gets your device booted successfully.
Now, download these files ~
*. Firmware.zip
*. LineageOS 14.1 latest build
*. Gapps
And Put em' all inside your SD card, Insert your SD Card to your device. Booting into fastboot mode? - Use this combination ~ Power key + volume down.
Then, go to fastboot mode and type fastboot boot <whatevertherecoveryname.img> give it some time, it'll boot to TWRP.
Once you gets twrp, from twrp choose wipe > advanced wipe > wipe everything except internal and SD card > then go back to main menu of twrp choose install» choose downloaded firmware.zip flash it, once it's done, locate unofficial LineageOS rom.zip and let it flash, it done? Then at last choose gapps.zip, flash it.
After this process, hit reboot. [/HIDE]

Eh, you just said '' what if he has an SD version'' right?
So.... That's the workaround for an SD version. Lmao
That's the reason why I quoted you.

[SOLVED] Bricked + Formated my Honor 7. Need a ROM

Hey guys,
I've had a total of 4 android smartphones during the last years, and I did root all of them and even install diferent ROM's, but on this phone (Honor 7) was kinda diferent.
The root process is way more complex than all the other androids I did root (simply flash a .zip file...) so I've been post-poning this task over and over..
Finally yesterday I gained courage to try out rooting my phone, and while attempting to root my Honor 7, after flashing SuperSU from TWRP, my phone no longer booted.
Stressed as I was, I just told to myself "f*ck it" and formatted the system and I didn't care much if there was a fix without needing to format the system. (but then I realised that I could not find any .img ROM files to flash from TWRP recovery, so basically I did my actions wrong once again)
I followed the tutorial from guidebeats.com which talks about rooting EMUI 4.0 Android 6.0 (I cant post links)
Basically this is the story:
While unlocking the bootloader, even though, the tutorial said the phone would reboot itself after typing "flashboot oem unlock 1234934829" I did a hard reboot (or reset?) holding (VOL+) + Power button and I have the feeling that the bootloader unlock was not 100% done, even if it said it was unlocked. (Phone was working perfectly fine there)
Then I flashed SuperSU, and I could no longer boot. After powering up my phone, after the first splashscreen, the screen would only turn black.
What (I think) I need to now is remove the TWRP recovery, and use the stock one and attempt to install an "update" using (Vol+) + (Vol-) + Power. (please correct me if I'm wrong)
But now there's some issues I got that I'd like some help with:
1- How can I get back to the stock recovery? (NOTE: I currently got no OS installed on my Honor 7, since I formated it)
2- Will I need to lock and unlock my bootloader again (if I want to 'fix' the bootloader unlock?)
3- Where can I get official Honor 7 stock ROM? (would be awesome if there was already the Android 6 stock rom for a clean install)
4- What are the steps on this tool (Honor 7 Multi-Tool) to root my phone?
I need my Honor 7 asap
Sorry for the long post, It's my first time doing a more advanced root and I have all these questions.
Thank you very much for any kind help!

As you are already familiar with adb and other stuff so will write a short post for you.
To download latest firmware, head to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/hon...tock-firmware-packages-honor-7-t3448747/page1
Google, download and install Huawei update extractor and open UPDATE.APP in it (obtained after extracting firmware).
You can see all the images. Just extract recovery and boot to platform-tools folder.
Meantime, do the unlocking command again, with
Fastboot OEM unlock xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Followed by fastboot reboot
And press and hold the vol down button again until you reboot in bootloader.
Flash the recovery and boot you extracted using
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
(I got a habit of extracting and flashing system and Cust using
Fastboot flash system system.img
Fastboot flash Cust Cust.img
But they are not necessary)
Now you are set to try a 3 button update (sometimes it gets stuck so if it's stuck for 15 minutes, try 3 button again).
Please do report back if it comes to life.
To root, just flash twrp and then use SuperSU 2.62 (no other version) and update it later using play store.

Hey!
Thank you alot for your reply.
From the link you sent about the firmwares, there are alot of Builds for the L01 (EU) model. Can I simply use the latest from the list or I gotta install 1 by 1 (from older to newer)?
Also, the bootloader unlock thing, is it ok if I wait to do it until I install the stock ROM again? Because I think I don't have the code anymore (Also don't know about IMEI)
Other thing, yesterday before bricking my phone, I tried to re-unlock the bootloader as you said above, but it didnt let me because "it was already unlocked".
I really have no idea if it's 100% unlocked or not.
important thing!
With those ROM's, I still have the right to receive official OTA updates from the HiCare app right?
Thank you again

Just use B380 as it's the latest full firmware available there.
Unlocking bootloader again was just a precautionary measure (proceed without it and if it is not 100% unlocked and if something goes wrong, we can troubleshoot later, which imo, won't happen)
And yep, if you keep the firmware as it is, but if you flash twrp and root, you will still see the update available in Hicare but will have to install stock recovery again before upgrading. (Nothing else is needed as SuperSU 2.62 gives a systemless root so you only need to flash back stock recovery for an update)
I am not against honor-tool bit it's best to do things manually as it makes you learn stuff and is easy to troubleshoot if something is amiss.

Alright, btw, about the thing you said
"Now you are set to try a 3 button update (sometimes it gets stuck so if it's stuck for 15 minutes, try 3 button again)."
I gotta do that myself with an "update.app" file or what?
Sorry, I missed that part
Cheers!

You have to make a dload folder in SD card and copy UPDATE.APP to that folder.
Then just turn off the phone, press and hold power + vol up + vol down until phone boots.
Let go of power but keep others two pressed for 5, 6 sec more. Your phone will boot into recovery and start installing UPDATE.APP
It likes to get stuck at 5% (most reports) but sometimes, somewhere else. If its stuck for 15 minutes on a particular percentage, just press and hold the above three buttons again using the same process.
Multiple tries make it work...

Good news, my phone is alive and root is done.
The problem was on the SuperSU that I flashed, it was version 2.71, instead of the one you said » version 2.62 «
I cant thank you enough!! Can I pay you a coffee?

That's great... Enjoy your phone and as for coffee, well, let's say, you owe me one and we will leave it at that
Better yet, you can search DigiGoon and pay him for the coffee, he taught me what I told you.

Hello
How did you format your phone?
I'm still struggling with going back to Android 5 and EMUI 3.1 since there is no rollback file available. (PLK-AL10, B396) Maybe formatting and installing the old rom could be a solution, like in your case?

Hello.
Do you have unlocked bootloader and TWRP recovery? You can format your phone from TWRP recovery.
I think the only option for you is to get the old ROM img and flash it (starting from 0)
You can dirty-flash (Flash a different ROM with same android version as yours, e.g: flashing custom android 5 ROM over your stock android 5 ROM without factory resetting your phone) but I dont think you can do that from Android 6 to 5.

Yes I have unlocked bootloader and currently not twrp but I can flash it at any time.
The last two paragraphs you wrote are different solutions or the last one is a more detailed explanation of the previous?
I have android 6 so the later method won't work as you said.
But formatting it and flashing a stock android 5 rom - is it that simple? Nobody here suggested this before, however I have been asking for months.
All the phones are empty when they leave the assembly line.
How did you flash the new rom to your formatted phone? Extracted update.app and flashed each file with fastboot? Any issues you faced?

From my last 2 paragraphs, the first was a solution, the second was an impossible alternative that I thought it would work.
My issue was that I had a custom recovery but I had no ROM installed, so I had to install the stock recovery and boot (extracting from update.app) and flashing it via fastboot, to afterwards force the update with 3-button method.
-----
What you'll need to do is:
- Flash TWRP
- Wype system, data, cache.. (so that you completely delete your current ROM)
- Extract recovery.img and boot.img from an update.app of an Android 5 ROM you'd like to have (Official ROM for your device model)
- Flash them via fastboot (You'll go back to stock recovery again)
- Shutdown your device
- Create a folder named "dload" on your sdcard and put UPDATE.APP file in it.
- Reboot
- Do the 3-Button update ([Vol+] + [Vol-] + Power)
- If it works, it will auto install
(- If it gets stuck on 5% for over 5/10min, force reboot pressing [Vol+] + Power) and try again the installation
- After installing it will boot normally (first boot takes a while)
NOTE: I'd recommend creading the dload folder before wiping the ROM, because usb didnt work for me afterwards. (It would still work if I was on recovery tho)
>> Remember to make a full system backup before wiping aswell, dont be stupid like me xD (thats why I had to full wipe my system after soft-brick)
Im answering based on what I did and was explained here to me

Hi again,
I'm doing this OS installation now. It starts fine but stucks at 90%, (I'm trying to install the latest stock ROM which can be downloaded from Huawei site, B220 or221). Did you have the same issue? I waited more than half an hour at 90% but did not go on.

Maybe formatting, Flash stock Android 5 recovery using Honor multitool , and then Flash a Android 5 firmware
Not sure it Will Work without rollback..
Finally, after 2 months of struggling I managed to get back to Android 5 and EMUI 3.1 without a rollback file.
Here is what I did:
0. Download a full ROM you want to install
1. Backup of the current system with Hisuite (everything. Apps, media, contacts, call log, etc.)
2. Flash TWRP recovery with fastboot (start phone in fastboot mode)
3. Wipe (and format!) everything you can with TWRP
4. Extract boot.img and recovery.img from update.app of the new ROM with Huawei Update Extractor
5. Flash boot.img and recovery.img with fastboot.
6. Copy update app to dload folder on SD card, insert into the phone.
7. Restart phone with [VOL+] + [VOL-] + [Power] buttons to force update.
8. The system will be installed from SD card. I had no issues with the installation. First I did not format the phone (just wiped) and it did not work.
9. Restore data from backup.
The only strange thing is that the native app icons look different than my previous lollipop system. Don't know why. They are less colorful. I installed C00B220 for PLK-AL10.

Yes it does. (It did for me.) Technically this is not a rollback but installing a brand new system on an empty phone. That's why it is important to do a backup upfront.

did u try pressing "vol down+power button"?
and what exactly did u do before the phone was dead?
any error occured during flashing?
Same with me
Try accessing fastboot, then reunlock your bootloader

Also Fixed, but FW Flash is a problem
HI,
I just wanted to comment on this, in the hope that some more experienced member, or even TheStrix would see it.
I've had the exact same problem over the last few days, but have been able to fix it each time by reflashing recovery from miFlash in edl mode;
Flashing the firmware from TheStrix (Latest, kenzo) without fail, bricks the Redmi Note 3, only being able to get to FastBoot. I'm able to switch to EDL on the PC with that batch file that's floating about, and flash recovery through miflash. I've been on LineageOS14 for the past few weeks, but my phones been barely usable with lag. Switched to AOSPX the other day by first flashing the FW;
1. Reboot to recovery
2. Backups
3. Wipe everything except for sd
4. Flash FW
5. Flash AOSPEx
6. Flash Gapps
7. Clear Cache
8. Reboot
That was the first time, and brick... as described above, back to recovery- tried missing out GAPPS- same result..
I went through a few different combinaitons, so have gotten quite used to the EDL mode miFlash...
Back through EDL.. flash recovery.. JUST AOSPEx, booted fine. Setup, etc, back to recovery, GAPPS, reboot, setups, etc.All working good- Except no power button
So I once again went back to recovery and flashed just the FW (Fully expecting it might fail)- Sure enough.. BRICK... So just, I've gone back through the miFlash, installed recovery, but then just decided to try rebooting from recovery into my existing AOSPEx- All works fine- Even the power button now- Was that fixed by the FW? And the bigger thing I'm wondering, since everytime I've flashed the FW it's resulted in a brick-does that mean the FW's not working? When I re flash the recovery, am I back to original FW?
Am I now on the new FW?
Only other thing is I don't have root... I'll see if I can find a supersu to flash, I guess.
So tl;dr- I'm all up and working- but flashing the latest FW form TheStrix appears to brick the Note 3 every time. I can only get a rom to install by NOT first flashing the FW. Flashing the FW after a rom still bricks. And I don't know if it is actually flashed with the new fw after re-installing recovery.

It's because you haven't unlocked officially. TheStrix's firmware contains MM bootloader which relocks your bootloader if you're in LP bootloader(which is your bootloader if you've unlocked unofficially). If you've already unlocked officially then flash the latest MIUI dev ROM(which relocks your bootloader) then unlock again, TheStrix's firmware will now work.
Or you can just unzip the Firmware then remove emmc_appsboot.mbn(MM bootloader) then rezip it again. You'd still get problems flashing the latest LineageOS Roms if you don't update your bootloader though. So my advice is unlock officially.
Try This guide http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html and this guide make a deep flash cable and download the latest fastboot rom and follow the first link http://en.miui.com/thread-380827-1-1.html

Help, soft-bricked Mi Note 4 (mido) while trying to install Resurrection Remix

This is what I did:
1. Unlocked the bootloader (requested permission and used Mi Unlock app)
2. Installed the latest TWRP (twrp-3.1.1-0-mido.img), via:
adb reboot bootloaderfastboot flash recovery3. Booted into TWRP (Vol+ and power)
4. Flashed SuperSU v2.78
5. Wiped Cache/Delvik/System/Internal
Then wanted to copy RR.....mido...zip and gaps...zip to the phone's Internal Memory - but couldn't as after pressing CTRL-V it would just sit there. So I tried using a different windows machine and a linux box, but the problem was still the same.
I then thought I'll try a micro-SD card which I inserted, but when I wanted to mount it, TWRP wouldn't let me - the check box remained unchecked.
At that point I ran out of options and rebooted it. But now it's stuck at Mi, mi.com. Pressing Vol- & Power gets me to Fastboot - but I don't know what to do next.
Could someone please tell me what I can do next. And also what I did wrong - so others can learn from my mistake.
Many thanks
Tomasz.

Go to fastboot mode and Reflash twrp, next boot to twrp.
Once you're in twrp, wipe everything except internal storage /SD card then flash cm14.1 firmware, flash Rom & Gapps and reboot!
Links :-
*.cm14.1 firmware.zip
*.RR Rom
*.Gapps
And also, DL all those files and put em' all to your SD card, insert SD card then move on! Goodluck
Thanks

Stock Recovery Error on Nokia 1 Black Screen

Hi! I was trying to root Nokia 1
I flash TWRP through fastboot and it worked! But the problem was I was unable to see my files there.I think because of encryption..
So, I accidentally factory reset my phone through TWRP and then, I was unable to boot into system again..
I was stuck in TWRP
So, I go to fastboot and flash stock_recovery.IMG and after that when I reboot. I am seeing a black screen. I can feel vibration when press home key or home + volume up/down. but screen is black
Please help...

Use micro SD card for twrp. You can't remove encryption just by factory reset. I know how to remove encryption on Nougat but that method doesn't work on Oreo. When you flashed TWRP flash SuperSU (not Magisk) then boot to system, after that boot to twrp recovery again and wipe factory reset and wipe internal storage. You have removed encryption. SuperSU needs to be updated to patch plat and non play file contexts to remove encryption on Oreo. Or someone can make flashable zip to remove encryption.
First find nb0 file for Nokia 1 and try to flash rom with OST.

Nokia1 uses MTK CPU right? If you can get the ota zip of the current update on your phone, you can extract the boot.img file then boot into download mode and type fast boot flash boot <boot.img file>

Same here. Seems that the decryption does not work. Better make sure your phone is not encrypted before messing with twrp (3.2.3).
Be careful
Some Nokia 1 are a TA 1060 variant number and if you flash the wrong file you are going to have further problems.
The process to root and get TWRP on the nokias Is complicated enough without everyone suggesting wrong model variants / numbers.
I guarantee someone will download the wrong file for the wrong model and come here crying.
is this the real firmware?

[GUIDE] Downgrade from MIUI Android 11 Beta Stable to Android 10 Stable using flashable firmware

This might help you after realizing that you want to install custom ROM again after upgrading to android 11 MIUI but you cannot install android 10 or 11 based ROM and stuck with either boot loop or android rescue party.
WARNING: This might wipe every writable partition. Charge your phone at least 20% or more to prevent from destroying these partitions.
Instructions:
1. Download firmware from here
2. Download full ROM (either recovery or fastboot) from here
3. Save the firmware zip file it in either internal storage or sdcard. Reboot to TWRP afterwards
4. Tap install and find the zip file in your storage and install. Wait for a couple of seconds to get done.
To install full ROM
Recovery
1. After installing firmware from recovery mode, don't reboot. If you reboot the system it will fail to boot. Boot to fastboot if you fail this step and flash a recovery image. Proceed with next step.
2. Install full ROM flashable zip from sdcard or internal storage.
3. Format /data. Reboot.
Using fastboot
1. Boot from fastboot mode
2. Extract full ROM fastboot zip file.
3. Open miflash and locate the fastboot folder.
4. Choose flash_all. Click start.
5. The phone reboots itself. Boot to recovery mode and wipe data.
All done. The phone is now downgraded from android 11 back to android 10.
Note: I got 2 anti triggered when attempting to downgrade the phone using recovery and fastboot without installing firmware zip file first. RIP me I guess I voided my warranty anyways so doesnt matter as I already applied some insurance for my device.
TL;DR: Installed Recovery will get erased as I mentioned in WARNING. Please don't skip every step.
Edit: since it made confusion, I split steps for recovery and fastboot mode.
Has anyone tried this procedure?
Im on 12.0.6.0(EU). Bootloader locked (wait 3days) so no TWRP. Want downgrade to 12.0.8.0(EU) and flash Pixelexperience ROM.
It will work?
I'm a bit confusing... Links inserted in first 2 points seem to be the same link. So what I've to download exactly?
I'm on 12.0.7.0 Android 10 but I'm curious to try 12.0.6.0 Android 11 stable beta released some days ago...

Its not the same. First one is cca. 80MB of size while full rom is 2.4GB for recovery and 4.4GB for fastboot.
I did this method yesterday and its working. No problems whatsoever.
The only thing i would add is you need both versions of rom - recovery and fastboot. Recovery when you flash for the first time in recovery and fastboot when you flash with Mi flash.
And my advice is, android 11 miui is really bad. Its not finished, it stutters a lot, u can't use third party launchers with gesture navigation (at least in my case, Nova lanucher), performance is bad.
Not worth any time.

i only tried recovery method and it works fine after days of trying. 12.0.6 android 11 is still buggy and miui needs to fix it a lot. most of apps are not well optimized for this flavor.
Today unlocked bootloader. Flashing 12.0.8.0 (i have 12.0.6.0 A11).
Everything work perfect. No bootloop, bootloader relock and works fine
People are probaly skipping some steps.
1. Download Firmware small size files
2. Download full Firmware, both - fastboot and recovery (put it on SD card, small and recovery)
3. Install Twrp or Orangefox recovery (download it from somewhere)
4. Enter into recovery and install small firmware FIRST, dont reboot, install big firmware (recovery version) SECOND
5. do not reboot
6. format data
7. Now reboot into fastboot
8. Extract fastboot firmware zip into new folder on desktop
9. Start Mi flash, select that folder where u extracted files and tick "clean only" on the bottom of the Mi flash if u want to leave bootloader unlocked and from drop down menu near that pick "flash_all.bat".
Thats how i did it.
