my camera closing ifself after 2 minute around because of overheating - Sony Xperia X Questions & Answers

hi my friends. ı just have bought an x and tryed to capture video but that problem happened. so is there any chance to fix this?
what ı did
updated the latest version.
fixed with pc companion
did some changes at camera settings.
but phone getting hot even in normal using.
ı need help thnx.

Hmm. It has happened to me about 2 times since i bought this phone. 1. It was chraging so the temperature was a bit higher, thus the camera shut down. 2. It was a bright day and I was trying out different camera tools under the hot sun, camera shut down after 5 minutes. Also check if you are running a lot/or any intensive apps that cause it to overheat. Mine can overheat when charging or when having several apps open + camera. When i use the camera alone, it doesn't overheat.

If you are capturing full hd video for 10 minutes straight it can happen. Though it doesn't happen to me after only 10 minutes. What ROM are you running? You can disable the warning if you are rooted but then if using for long you will be risking harming the device

Hey bro
I can confirm that I too experience heat issues in normal usage as well.
I live in India and temperature here is around 43 degrees Celsius. But even in AC room it gets hot when recording full HD videos within a minute.
So don't know where the problem is.. I bought it through flip kart and raised a return request. Let's see how it goes. (they don't have refund option so I'm kind of stuck with this phone)
IL update you.
If you figure out any workaround let me know

Within ONE minute? Woah thats terrible. Did you try using a different ROM ?
Solution: attach a fan to your phone

No I can't use a different rom as I bought the phone last week. So there's a 10 day replacement warranty which I don't want to lose and also the 1 year manufacturer warranty.
Regarding the solution u gave I guess it is working for you but can't do that coz I don't want my phone to look ugly

It was just a joke, mate I didn't try that solution XD, and my phone doesn't have the problem your's has

Cool brother. I too was joking.
Was really frustrated with the phone but if there was any consolation, in AC my phone scored around 82k in AnTuTu (no heat now) and at the same time friends iPhone 6s scored 80k.
I don't know where the problem is.. Confused ?

I really have no clue, if your supplier doesn't replace your phone you can try disabling the overheat warning with root (since you aren't actually overheating you won't have problems, just keep it safe). I start to worry there are some faulty XX models. For example, mines battery is terrible and I dont understand why. We are talking about 2.8 hours on screen time. Sadly I voided my warranty before noticing the problem

Sorry to hear about that!
Won't u be able to get the battery replaced? Is it too costly?
Else since you already voided warranty, trying different roms available and sticking to the one that gives gud soc wud b helpful I think. Unless you tried that already.. ?

Nah, its not worth the trouble for me replacing the battery even if it costed 10 bucks. It most likely wont fix it. Roms do very little changes. I will try running a debloat script someone has posted in case my badly deleted bloated apps cause problems (though I cant see anything like that reported)

Ok here's the update.. The phone cannot be replaced it seems. The guy who came for verification said that the battery temperature should be more than 50 degrees then only phone will be replaced with the new one. But the camera itself closes may be at 45 degrees. I cannot get a screen shot. So im stuck with this phone.
So have to make the most out of it other than the camera.

I have the phone for a little over a week but today it was hot, i mean i have never felt a phone that hot, hope it will get better or may be this is how these phones are lol
This morning I used Viber to make a call. Somewhere at the 29th minutes into the conversation I noticed the phone was getting so hot that I can not let it touch my face any more so I hanged up and check, Baterry Monitor Widget indicates temperature were at 114.4 Fahrenheit. I have 3Do case on at that moment so I took the case off in hopes to cool it down ...
Anyone ever get that kind of temperature with your phone before?

Is this something we should be worried about?
I just got my Amaze yesterday and haven't even used it yet.
Waiting for a screen protector.
Is this a common problem? 114f sounds pretty serious.
This may be weird, but have you guys switched to the SIM cards included in the box? The first week I had mine, it used to get really hot, I read somewhere that switching to the new sim card fixed that. Just a guess really, mine gets warm, but only after intensive use for about an hour or so..
There is an update too that was released and that from what I've heard has helped with this type of issue.
Just about every phone overheats once in awhile but you'll notice it a lot more with HTC phones because of the materials (metals) used to build the phone. Metals will always be too hot in the Summer and too cold in the winter. Similar to leather seats in a car without the heat or a/c on.

It's a VOIP program that allowed you to make free international calls provided the other party has it on their phone too. It's work on iPhone3GS and up and on any Android. Similiar to Skype and stuff like that without the hassle to sign-in when you using it.

FWIW: Mine NEVER gets hot--no matter what I am doing. The initial update (included in the newer roms) supposedly fixed the heating issue.
check your battery usage to see what app is using up your battery. i had the same problem with my amaze it would get supper hot and battery would die in 4 hours with no usage. turns out it was youmail the voicemaill app that was killing my phone.

Is there an app you recommend for monitoring battery usage?
I've seen screen shots of people showing some sort of battery graph and chart before, just don't know what they used to get that.

Its all about radio transmits while using wifi and voice over ip . I think it happens especially when use VOIP software. Example fring too. Just try to soft reset and it will fix. It happens to Samsung galaxy ii as well.

6.1.A.2.50 [Quick Launch Bug]

Hey all,
I know a lot of members here at xda are affected by the camera quick launch feature. Some are not even aware of it. However, it did come to my attention that for the ones that stated their quick launch is working every single time, it is likely because their devices are not sleeping properly.
If you are one of the members that has a perfectly working quickly launch, please check your battery usage and see if your device is sleeping properly. Also, please make sure you run a few tests to ensure that your quick launch is working following these instructions.
1) Power on your screen with the top left power button, press again to power off and let screen idle for about 15-20 secs.
2) Activate the quick launch from black screen with the dedicated camera button. Repeat for 5-10 times and report your success rates.
Most people will notice that after the first few tries, it can take up to 2-4 times to activate quick launch feature.
I hope all of the xperia S members take part in this and convince Sony that they have to focus on this issue. It has been left unfixed for far too long. please follow this link and voice your issue there.

Mine worked first time, but then the next NINE attempts all failed
I'm running .50 unofficially though, as the .45 update hasn't even made it to the UK yet, so Sony would probably say in my case its because I have hacked firmware :banghead:

No, Sony just need to understand that A LOT of people are affected by this issue. Most members dont even know they have this issue until they tried, thus Sony is sort of down playing this issue thinking that only a small fraction of people are suffering from this bug. But the truth of the matter is that a lot of people are suffering from it. As long as you flashed the .50 firmware and the bug is there, it will be there for you even if you get the official update from PCC, it makes no differences.

An issue is an issue whether big or small! Buggy camera Quick Launch is the biggest issue for me on ICS, because I use this feature a lot (and only to see it fail many times). I understand that such a feature might not be of importance to you, but it is to many like me. So, kindly be considerate to others' issues than being outright dismissive !
not a big deal
i don't use the camera it self for about 3 weeks and i didn't get the phone to use the camera
so it's not affecting my daily use of the phone call me idiot or what ever as you did on your last reply but trust me we using human made product and you have to expect bugs and faults of any kind and solving issue could take time so be polite nothing will change you have to phone keep it or give it away.

For the members stating it worked 100%, did you make sure to let the phone idle on the black screen for at least 15 seconds in between ?
Hm, mine is working but i noticed something else - every time i'm at the office, where the reception is pretty bad, the phone is constantly awaking. when i'm at home, where the reception is really good it's sleeping very well. So, do you think the bad battery life might be something related to poor reception? Also is there a way to disable totally the quick launch, i never use it and if i can get better battery life with disabling quick launch i'll be more than happy to do it.

when the phone gets a long idle, it will usually work on the first try. however if you try to let it idle anywhere between 15 seconds - a few mins, it will have trouble in between. usually if i leave the phone alone for 2 hours and try, it will always work too. however once i activate the first time and try again in a minute or two, fail rates are extremely high.
and if i sounded angry for calling someone an idiot before, it was because he tried to be an ass and made me look like a bad guy for pointing out a bug in the phone. i'm usually very respectful towards other people.
First time i had this Bug was on GB wenn i've installed vintage and the QL-Button seemingly couldn't find out which app to choose . after setting the camera app to default it worked until ICS... but since my clean-install of .50, the rooting and the removing of all the bloatware its gone and its working every single time for me, no matter how long i wait in between or whatsoever.
maybe another problem for unlocked BLs like the BE b/c mine is locked.
This morning i tried with data off and let the screen off for 20s and 4/8 success rate! Now i tried with data on! Do the same success rate is 100% 9/9! Might me my line, my messenger, whatsapp keep the phone a wake!
Don't forget to hit thank, if i deserve it!

Z3v Overheating

My phone has been over heating. A LOT. Even with basic use. No gaming or anything. Anyone experience this? I called tech and they were no help. Told me to run in safe mode and remove my SD card..... Ya that won't work for me.
Thinking about full wipe but I dread resetting up everything.

I haven't had any issues like that. Only over heading I experienced were while using car navigation while wireless charging. You can try shopping cache plus restart to see if something is stuck, or if you have a new installation freeze that and see if things get better.
Another thing to look at is detailed battery use, see if there is any surprises. Many times the app that causes heating will also cause faster battery drain. If you can't find the app then full wipe may be needed.
Edit: one other question, did you change case recently? some cases don't transfer heat as well.
I did. A lot. Got to the point that I could take one picture and the camera would shut off because it was over heating. Hard reset didn't fix anything. I also had wireless problems (wifi would never stay off, airplane mode didn't work), and battery life was pretty poor (coming from Note 2). Replacement phone seems much better on all counts.
Thanks for the info guys. No case on the phone. Still working on rooting and playing with Xposed.... Maybe something there will help.... Or just have Verizon send a new one. I really do love this phone... So hopefully I can resolve this.... Maybe lollipop will help... If we ever get it....

Update
So had Verizon send me a new phone..... Have had it a day and a half and have already seen signs of over heating...... Granted it's close to 100 outside..... But I've been in the car with AC using GPS and it was getting really warm. I've had SEVERAL other phones with the same or more heavy usage with no over heating issues......
Not sure what to do. If it keeps up I'm going to have to consider a new phone....
Anyone know of any risks using the phone when it's over heating??? It's not going to explode or catch fire is it???

Same here. I can use the camera on this one but this is annoying. Might sell and go back to my trusty Note 2 that still hasn't sold anyway.
Anybody find any workarounds (besides the tin-foil inside the case thing)? I get camera shut-down after just playing around with the various modes without even recording anything. Thinking about getting an ice-pack to mount on the phone when I want to record videos......

I was having the overheat issue when I used the camera, so i downloaded the google camera app and it seems to work better.
My wife and I got refurbished phones from VZW, her's crashes to home screen now (Camera) and mine works for a few minutes longer than the old one.
Right now I am looking into getting a new phone, this one is getting annoying, want something I can get current Android version on and not a year old unpatched (Stagefright) leak that is not even Marshmallow.

For water resistance is better the m4 aqua
And when the phone is overheating, you can put the phone in cold water hehe :silly: [emoji23]
It doesn't heat up to the point that is unbearable. But it does heat up. And don't dunk the phone inti water after it has heated. You risk cracking the screen.
Immediate contraction and expansion for glass substrate is bad.
Actually I need to know about the overheating issue Gone after the update?? Or at least normalized or reduced?? I am planning to buy this device so please let me know more about the device. Thanks in advance.
Which update do you mean? Well it does overheat, but it´s not bad and you mostly won´t feel it because it heats up in the NFC area just above the index finger while you hold it. Overally, it´s acceptable and you can warm your hands during the winter
don't buy

My advice is don't buy, I got the device from T-Mobile, and when playing any simple game it heats up and then it restart on it's own, after restarting i lose my installed apps and get only generic icons that some of them you can not remove unless you reset to factory default. I am planing to take it to service to check the issue, and I had the phone for only one month.

Strange, this never happened to me, never hear that problem before, it may be an isolated case.

I recommend , heating as said by others is not much, device performance is very good, and with a software update to 5.1.1 or 6.0 will make it better , 5.0 is a bit buggy in comparison to the new versions (after all it was the first version of lollipop ) , but it's good .
Does turning off nfc solve the m4 aqua heating problem?
This guy says so.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3dMHYiUYVVc
I've had it since release and ya she'll heat up... I used to have GSAM and it wasnt nothing for it to get upwards of 120° if say you were on fb then took some pictures and then played Clash of Clans...
Now I've since, very recently I might add got rid of a bunch of phone monitoring crap ie GSam, CCCleaner, Greenify, Cleanmaster as well as a few unused apps so all I have in that category is Better Battery Stats and let me tell you the phone runs smoother and alot cooler all the time!!!
There's a reason all these monitoring apps have to have special permissions and special side apps to allow them to work with the new version of Android.... Bc Android doesn't need them anymore! That's why they made it so hard to install those apps but those app creators won't let it go. So do yourself a favor and clean your phone up people, Android is optimized these days to take care of itself.
And yes buy the phone its the best phone I've ever had!

New 6P Owner!

Hello fine people,
I ordered a Nexus 6P last night at 10 p.m., it arrived at 10 a.m., and after spending 1 hour reading on this forum, I am now bootloader unlocked, rooted and running Dark ROM (for now).
This was the easiest thanks @Heisenberg
Never had an easier time getting unlock and rooted.
Have any of you experienced a Huawei Mate 8 - I picked one up last month and soft bricked it 3 times in one week. You don't want to go there - with EMUI - a headache (but fun challenge) to mod. So, this device was juuuuuust a bit easier.
I am late to the party, but happy to own this great device as an upgrade to my Nexus 6. I look forward to reading, experiencing all the ROMs and great development for this device.
See y'all on the boards.

It would be worthless if I had a phone like that. Fortunately, I don't.
Congratulations. Still the best buy of 2017.

but you do though
not a best buy unless you get it for $100, i paid $400 for a 128gb last year and it is still worthless,
the phone is useless garbage it overheats with nothing even running, and SOT is less than 2 hours no matter what you do to it ,it's pure garbage
also good luck making voice calls nobody can hear you on the other end the mic sucks it's noise cancellation is broken and google never bothered to fix it , also they remove miracast

and what do you get for SOT?
my phone can't even get 2 hours with doing nothing at all , if i actually were to use a demanding app it would be considerably much less
and today i put it on hotspot for like 20 min its screen was off and it was in my pocket and it was considerably hot
just about any app i run on it it gets hot right away , even doing barely anything in chrome it get hot
it is nearly impossible to get it to get more than 2hr SOT even with brightness almost all the way down
the phone is worthless garbage it is dead after not even 2 hours of lite use , i never even bothered putting any games on it , it would probably explode
most demanding thing i tried to do was watch a movie on kodi , i get about 20 min into it and the phone is alredy going dead and at 15% after 20 min
it's a piece of ****

Well, if you insist, though I'm not getting any of the problems you're experiencing, like voice calls and overheating, at least no more than any other phone. It looks like your definition of a best buy reflects your experience. I bought my 64GB in November and for the price I paid for it in my region, it was a best buy compared to other phones. It's even cheaper now. Haven't experienced a single freeze till now. A friend bought the Mate 9 a couple of weeks ago. Stock and froze twice since then.

Hey, all devices can have issues. Me, I have always been able to fine tune every device I have owned to be the best device for me. No complaints, ever.
I don't regret picking up the year-old 6P or the year-old Mate 8. Great decisions. I dare you guys to unlock, root and ROM the Mate 8 without losing your mind.

Either you have a bad phone and should RMA it or you just don't know what you're doing with a phone. I get between 6-7.5 hours of SOT and my phone is 13 months old.

i did RMA it i just got it back a few weeks ago they did nothing to it,it still had the glass screen protector on it i sent it in with , the jerked me off and tied up my phone over 2 weeks and sent it back the same as i gave it only they updated it to N which i asked them not to do , all they did was update it to N , the SOT is even worse now than when i sent it in
the standby time is a lot better than it was on MM though , on MM it would lose 65% from when i went to bed till when i woke up , now it gets much better standby but SOT is even worse than before

"or the mate 8"
ok i was just joking before but now i am convinced you are shilling for huawei
it is a crap company with crap devices and even more crap customer service
"fine tune" , so you tell me this POS will not get 1/4 of the battery life out of the box before you "fine tune it"
that is utter horse ****
you tell me what settings i can change that will miraculously quadruple the battery life of this hunk of garbage then
I love my 6p. This is #2 6p for me and I doubt I'll ever get a pixel but looking at the One Plus for my next one once I flash this one to death in about a year hopefully it lasts that long. Bought it used for cheap. Excellent device imo. My favorite device I have ever owned. Cheers. ?

Whatever you're doing, it's all on your end. I easily get 4 hours SOT everyday, with 200+ apps installed.
Also... Any phone that you turn the hotspot on and throw it in your pocket, of course it's going to overheat. ?

i think it is just defective then and probably 60% of them are the same way from what i read other places it does not seem isolated , and i don't usually do that i only did it today because i went to best buy to look for a new phone and their wifi sucks and none of their phones would go online and i wanted to test them , was looking at the axon 7 and the moto x pure as a replacement to this hunk of garbage, unfortunately they are all plugged in and no way to gauge battery life on them
and i have used hotspot on an old iphone 5 before and it never once got hot even after over an hour of being on , this thing was about to go all note 7 and burn my **** off after just 15 min of use
why would having more apps negatively effect battery?
this phone has barely anything on it and when i got it let almost nothing but the stock apps on it and it was always draining this fast , i left it with almost nothing but stock apps to test it and it never got more than 2:15 SOT
with nothing running, any app i run it gets warm chrome youtube doesn't matter what it gets really warm in 2 minutes and battery drains at like 1 or 2 % per minute , brightness at little over 1/8th no bluetooth on no gps no bluetooth location on
I think I got 5½ hrs before last year. I normally don't use more than 2 hrs cause of work. I had elex kernel with custom settings and it was still responsive as usual. I think the sot variations have to do with quality of chips and like with binning a cpu
