Need help: Installed H850 20D OPEN EU ROM + SuperSU and cannot boot - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have a rooted LG G5 H850 with an unlocked bootloader and TWRP. I was on H850 20A OPEN EU ROM from autoprime and I tried to flash H850 20D OPEN EU ROM. I booted into recovery TWRP and flashed the Zip file together with the newest SuperSU. When I tried to reboot the phone stuck in reboot - always changing between the message "Your device software cannot be checked for corruption" and the LG logo. After a long time (15 minutes or so) I pulled the battery. The same thing. Then I tried to get into recovery using the 2 hands method. I clicked through the factory reset screens (yes, yes...) - and the phone stuck between warning screen and logo again.
Could someone help me to get into TWRP again? If this would be possible I could restore my backup. Otherwise I don't what to to else...
Thanks for any helP!

Ok, after several tries with the 2 hand method, I got into TWRP again. I tried to restore my backup but it failed with an error. After that I did a full wipe (factory reset) but without the internal storage. Then I flashed the 20D zip again, after that SuperSU. Now the phone is rebooting and rebooting and rebooting. It is stuck on the LG logo and nothing else is happening. It's frustrating...

Firmware reset > flash zip file.
If that doesn't work use the LGUP or LG Bridge method to flash firmware. There should be threads in the development section

Thanks for your help, but I don't use windows. But in the meantime I got it solved. The reason for the failure was a corrupted external sd card. Flashing from a new card did help.

i'm getting the same problem with the OREO OPEN EU ROM, booted into TWRP, flashed SuperSU and after a few loops got stuck on the LG logo. Had to pull the battery, go into download mode & reflash the ROM via LGUP. I somehow doubt it's the SD card as there were no errors on the SuperSU install.

Need help/advice!

I did a data wipe accidentally in TwRP. Meant to just get cache. Now I lost root/TWRP apparently. Just recently updated to 20c. I have no recovery when I reboot but I still get the unlocked bootloader info when rebooting. Any ideas/help is greatly appreciated.

I don't see how wiping data would remove TWRP, but the way I'd reestablish TWRP once it's gone would be to LGUP the Tungkick 10d tot file and then use that TWRP to flash the 20c zip by Autoprime. Flash SuperSU one way or another and then have a blast. I'm sure there are other ways to accomplish all this, but this way is easy and has been reliable for me.
It seems that you can still boot the phone.
If you still have valid bootloader the issue is not that tricky.
Just do a "adb reboot bootloader" and reflash twrp, like how you installed them in the first place.
I'm not sure which exact version of twrp is compatible with v20*, but that should be easy to find anyway.
Then boot into twrp and flash supersu/magisk/any other thing you need.

So I did a factory reset from the settings menu. Now it boots back into TWRP. Weird. But that's it. No OS. Just the recovery. So I guess I'll try and flash a ROM and see if I can get that back. Thanks for trying to help.

Yeah, as long as the ARB is the same (ANTIROLLBACK 01) you can flash 10 after 20. I don't think 10a qualifies, but 10d should be okay from 20a or 20c.
It's a quirk of the G5 that TWRP can only be accessed from boot by factory reset of the phone. If you are already up and rooted, you can use a command or program AFTER boot to access TWRP without factory reset. But, for now, that's our doorway into TWRP from power-off.
Now that you're in TWRP you can sideload a ROM onto your SD and flash it, just remember to also flash the latest superSU zip afterward to ensure root (unless your ROM is pre-rooted.)

Bricked my h850

Hello, today I started to having some more fun with my LG G5, I unlocked bootloader, flashed TWRP and installed SuperSU, then I started to flash firmwares. I flashed "Tizen" rom for G5, flashed nicely, everything was working and I had one more software to flash on my sd "Genisys" which I wanted to try. After flashing I was stuck on lg logo, went again to recovery, and formatted system, then again flashed this soft and after rebooting I was stuck in a recovery loop.
From here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/help/bootloop-twrp-t3514927 I tried the solution and my phone is showing now red triangle with "Your device is corrupt. It cannot be trusted and will not boot.
I can still get to bootloader but when i try to flash my unlock.bin again there is a "Bootloader Unlock key write fail" message.
Any help appreciated
Solved: Download mode worked so I installed V20a KDZ with LGUP.

Did you try to unlock the bootloader again - after you unbricked it?
If so, did it work?
@bobiak
Congratulation to your result! Most of the guys i know, would have a unusable paperweight after those experiments.

When trying to solve the recovery loop (the link attached) you are moving some system files where bootloader is, so after flashing with KDZ I had bootloader locked againg, but when I got in that recovery loop again and didn't mess with moving any system files, after flashing KDZ my bootloader was still unlocked.
I didn't flash my unlock.bin to see if really bootloader is unlocked, recovery and root flashed without problem.
same problem

Bootloop Honor 9 with Bootloader and FRP unlocked

Hi all people,
first of all, I want excuse me for not my perfect English.
I have Honor 9 from few days. And I think to have bricked it.
I have unlocked bootloader correctly.
I have flashed recovery this TWRP recovery with the intention to proceed to root with Magisk or SuperSu. I accidentally and unconsiuosly do factory reset then the phone goes bootloop. (it power off and power on continuously) with the alert "your device has been unlocked and..etc".
Yesterday, reading this thread, I flashed, from fastboot console, boot, recovery and system, the phone resets two/three times then goes to eRecovery where I do a factory reset.
After a factory reset the phone works correctly and seems successfully unbricked. So I re-flash TWRP recovery.
But this morning, during the attempt to install from TWRP one between Magisk or SuperSu (I don't succeed to do it beacuse the phone was crypted and I don't see zip files from TWRP). I have reset the phone but goes bootloop again.
I tried to re-flash boot, recovery, system and cust more (that I don't have flashed yesterday). Now the phone goes eRecovery and ask me to connect to download latest version and recovery, but don't ask me to do a factory reset.
Now I don't know what I can do.
How I can solve this situation? I want only unlock bootloader (done!), install TWRP and have root permission. Now I don't think to change rom.
Something similar happened to me. It seems like the TWRP provided has some issue..... After installing TWRP I had a bootloop problem. I have resolved installing Magisk. It seems that Magisk patchs something. If you can access TWRP try to install Magisk (put the zip file on external sd). In other words: copy magisk zip on sd card - during the bootloop you have the chance to power off phone - Power off - Power on in recovery mode. If you have TWRP correctly installed Honor should go in recovery using TWRP . Install Magisk and see what happens...

I have tried to flash TWRP recovery again to do install Magisk from sd card. I have done it but the phone doesn't work fine.
So I have put rommco05 TWRP Backup into sd card then restored it from TWRP restore (boot and vendor img). Now the phone seems have bootloader locked, in fact I don't have bootloader warning at the power on. Now in fastboot mode the phone says me that I have Phone locked and FRP unlocked.
How can I exit from this situation?
Try this

Now I should try to root the phone with Magisk or SuperSu, right?
I have a question about TWRP. From TWRP's file manager I don't see the files that I put in the internal memory. It's because I have used finger print to lock the phone that encryptes files?

After I have installed Magisk (v14.0) now I have problem with google play services which don't download and do updates apps.
If I do a factory reset again I can solve it?
Update:
After I done a factory reset from TWRP recovery
and formatting data partition the phone seems working perfectly (I don't know why, but before format data the phone says me that I have only 150mb of memory space)
I say "seems" because there's something getting me in trouble, for example, I don't have anymore ringtones in the settings menu.
And I don't know if I have lost something else.
Exists a possibilty to restore all contents of the phone?
You could try this and flash your phone back to stock. But then you would need to unlock your bootloader and install TWRP again. Another way would be to unpack an image of your ROM and flash system and other parts via fastboot. Of course this could be risky and you could brick the device.

If I understand it well...
I have 2 options:
1) Rebrand the phone and flashin, then at end I have back the phone stock.
2) Unpack the image of ROM (what it means?) and flash system and other parts via fastboot. (Which are those parts? How?) But this procedure is more hazardous then rebrand procedure?
I have understand right?
1. Yes, correct. I would recommend that. Everything is explained in the thread I linked. Of course everything you do could potentially harm your phone, but you should know that already.
2. Get an update.app file for your specific phone model (there are threads already here, just search a bit, or use Firmware Finder), open it with the Huawei Update Extractor and extract the parts you want to flash (like system or recovery). Then flash them via fastboot. I tried this because I was in a situation like yours, but it didn't work for me. But in theory it could, because you would replace the faulty parts of your firmware.

Hi, I don't say it because I have replaced the phone with another same.
Now I'm starting to unlock bootloader, installing recovery TWRP and rooting the phone.
I hope to avoid bootloop this time.
Goodmorning everyone!
Yesterday I have:
- Unlocked bootloader correctly!
- Installed TWRP correctly!
- Make a TWRP Backup of all partitions of the device, except data partition because TWRP gives me an error during backup attempt.
- Then I start the device.
- After start the device I go to recovery TWRP to install Magisk, but the phone goes bootloop.
After reboot 2-3 times on the screen appears for a few moments a message of eRecovery that have restored something but I don't know. Then the device shows me the eRecovery that asks me to make a factory reset.
At this point I shutdown the device, go in TWRP to flash Magisk unistaller and the device goes out bootloop and works fine but without root.
How I can solve this problem and install Magisk and have root finally?
Some question:
-When I flashed TWRP (via fastboot) and I configurate it, example language, hours, etc... TWRP don't save the settings, in fact when I go in TWRP again I do remake the settings. Why?
-Then I go in sdcard I don't navigate files, I see folders with casual characters. This is an effect of encryption of the device?

Answers to all your concerns go here mate---> TWRP doesn't decrypt data. Done.
Hence: weird folders in there, nowhere to store its settings prefs, about Magisk it's another story, if you want root go SuperSU latest beta.
Regards.
a basically did what that guy did, got root installed via TWRP but my google apps are all busted.
I tried flashing the update_data_full_public.zip and update_full_hw_usa.zip I found using the russian device lookup link switching trick but I the HW errored when I tried to flash it in TWRP and my play store still broken.

HELP! Is my phone bricked?

Hello all,
I have a Verizon LG V30 that I converted to a US998 LG V30 using the Frankenstein method. Today, I clicked the Uninstall option in Magisk Manager and the device uninstalled it and rebooted. Upon rebooting, I was thrown into Fastboot mode with no way to get out (No Recovery, nothing.) I tried resetting through Fastboot to no avail. It still connects with Fastboot but nothing else. I can flash firmware with the patched LGUP but no file I have tried has worked. Is there anyway I can flash my V30 back to Stock VS996? Thank you.

Why isn't there a way to get into Recovery? Use the same fastboot commands you got into recovery the first time you installed TWRP. You can even use those commands to boot to TWRP on your phone even when TWRP is not installed on your phone, via "temp" TWRP.
Since you uninstalled root, you can't use the Reboot Recovery app anymore -- as that requires root access -- but you can still use the fastboot flash commands.

Yes, go into Download mode manually and use dev patched LGUP to flash VS996 Oreo KDZ with DL Partition method. Flash all partitions. Not sure why you are doing that however. You decided you don't want to own your phone anymore?
People who want to KEEP root and TWRP and go back to VS998 would use DL Partition method -- but UNtick the partition recovery partitions. Then you would still have VS996 but with TWRP. You would no longer have fastboot flash commands, but you would still have TWRP custom recovery. Then you just flash Magisk root. So you would have VS998 with TWRP and root.
And at that point you could even use the reboot recovery app with root to always easily get to TWRP.

Thank you very much. I am booting up my ADB and Fastboot to flash TWRP, as I still at least have an unlocked boot loader. I’ll download a Oreo KDZ for the Verizon Variant if that doesn’t work out. Do you have any sources for one on the forums? Thank you!
EDIT: Once I get into recovery, should I flash a stock ROM? There are a few on the ROMs section of the forums but I do not non which one to download.

1) Do your want to keep TWRP and root and just flash back to VS996 (while keeping TWRP and root)?
2) Or do you want to just keep TWRP but you don't want root right now?
If #1, once in TWRP, reflash Magisk.
Then reboot, and go into manual download mode BEFORE opening the patched LGUP. Then Frankenstein back to VS996 with DL PARTITION method, but untick (uncheck) the recovery partitions. Then you'll be back to VS996, but still have TWRP and be rooted.

Don't mind my other comment, I fixed what was going on there for the most part. I have tried 2 different firmware files and both of them will not boot. The Official LG Boot image (flashable with TWRP) flashed with no errors, but i just booted into download mode again. I also flashed LineageOS and the same thing happened. I tried the Refurbish and Upgrade option through LGUP and both stopped at 19% with error 0x2000. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.

Flashed VS99630c, now I can’t access TWRP

I might have done something stupid, would really appreciate it if you folks can help me get back to US998 Oreo.
I installed VS99630c (Pie) on my phone, via TWRP. After this the bootloader warning disappeared, so I suspect my bootloader has been re-locked. I can’t access TWRP anymore, neither from factory reset, nor from ADB commands on PC (the phone just reboots normally). I can’t get to fastboot either. However I can access Download Mode.
How should I proceed?

No, your bootloader is not re-locked. The Verizon firmware does not have a bootloader unlock warning. Verizon never thought they would need one...
You don't have fastboot flash commands on Verizon firmware. That's why you needed to temporarily convert to US998 to bootloader unlock and install TWRP.
To boot to TWRP, have you tried to use the Reboot Recovery app I STRONGLY RECOMMEND in all the Pie KDZ threads? Or boot to TWRP from Magisk Manager? If you have TWRP, either work unless you've wiped out TWRP.

Do you have Magisk Manager app in your app drawer? You can reboot to TWRP Recovery from there. Open Magisk Manager, go to Modules, then three dot Menu.

No, I guess Magisk didn’t flash. Downloaded the Magisk Manager app and it says “Magisk is not installed”. Should I click on install? I figure that may be risky because I’m not sure I have TWRP.

At this point in time you need Magisk installed. You can only install in TWRP.
At this point in time, you have two options:
1) try the "hardware button dance" again to see if you can boot to TWRP. If you get to TWRP, flash newest Magisk.
If you can't do that, you will have to:
2) use Dev Patched LGUP via Refurbish mode to flash back to US998 Oreo KDZ, to get back fastboot flash commands. Your bootloader is still unlocked. BEST to flash back to US998 Nougat via Partition DL, Master Reset, then US998 Oreo. Since your Bootloader is already unlocked, you can go to US998 20h after Nougat.
Then, go through WTF Section 6 instructions completely to re-install TWRP and the three root files. Do not skip any steps of that section.
Finally, re-flash VS996 TWRP 30c flashable zip and this time flash Magisk before rebooting.

BEST to b flash back to US998 Nougat via Partition DL, Master Reset, then US998 Oreo. Since your Bootloader is already unlocked, you can go to US998 20h after Nougat.

After failing to boot to TWRP, I've been attempting the LGUP route but no matter what I try it doesn't recognize the device (it says "There is no handset connected"). Here's what I've done exactly:
Deleted old LGUP from Program Files
Followed all the instructions here in the section "HOW TO INSTALL DEV PATCHED LGUP": https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/vs996-lg-v30-vs99630a000704arb00-kdz-t3952254
Didn't work so tried again (different USB ports, used a different computer, reinstalled drivers, reinstalled LGUP, used different cable, even used different Dev Patched LGUP, etc).
LGUP recognizes my device just fine when it's booted normally, but in Download Mode there's no connection
After trying all kinds of stuff for the past few days I was just about ready to throw in the towel. Must have gone through a hundred threads on this forum.. finally I came across someone with a similar problem who fixed it with his Windows 7 PC. Found my old laptop that’s over a decade old and booted it up. Installed the drivers, LGUP, etc. Booted up my phone in Download Mode.. still no connection. Reinserted usb cable.. and the damn thing finally showed up. That ancient behemoth of a computer managed to save my phone
Thanks a bunch for helping me out Chazz

Same here. Can't access fastboot, and the patched lgup doesn't says "no handset connected."
It's as if bootloader mode and recovery have become the same thing.
