If S8 is QC4.0 - What's the best portable charger (power bank) that's available? Anke - Samsung Galaxy S8 Accessories

If S8 is QC4.0 - What's the best portable charger (power bank) that's available? Anker 3.0? or any such as PowerIQ?
Does it matter?
If I opt for 3.0, will my S8 go from 4.0 speed to 3.0 or standard speed?

It's 2.0. QuickCharge is backward compatible though, so if you have a 3.0 charger/battery, and the phone is 2.0 -- it'll charge at 2.0 speeds.

S8 is only 2.0
Samsung only purchase the license up to that point

LG G5 charger not supporting qc 3.0 ?

Hi, does our g5 charger support qc 3.0 ? Output is rated at 5V 1.8A and 9V 1.8A and that is QC 2.0
quote : '' Specifically, Quick Charge 3.0 offers a more granular range of voltages: 200mV increments, from 3.6V to 20V. That way your phone can target one of dozens of power levels. ''
So we need to buy another qc 3.0 charger to use this qc 3.0 technology ?
QC 3.0 charger specs:
Output: 3.6-6.5V/3A 6.5V-9V/2A 9V-12V/1.5A
this is so stupid, and I was wondering where is that 80% in 35mins they are talkin bout......

Hi,
No it doesn't support QC 3.0. The QC logo is missing and "Fast Charge" isn't the same.
There is a compatibility list of QC 3.0 chargers on Qualcomm's website. I am not allowed to post external links, so you'll need to use Google. Sorry for that...
Best wishes,

Ampere measures only mah's , not Voltage, so what did you expected to see from ampere ? Mah's are the same, voltage is diferent, diid you even read what I wrote ?

Indeed, the LG G5 supports QC 3.0. But the bundled wallcharger doesn't (maybe different depending on purchase region).
I got the LG MCS-H05ER (European plug type C) bundled with my phone. It provides either 9V 1.8A or 5V 1.8A. When I use that one, there is no indication of fast charging on the phone. When I use the separately purchased QC 3.0 compatible wallplug Aukey PA-T14 (3.6V-65.V @ 3A; 6.5-9V @ 2A; 9-12V @ 1.5A) the phone shows a notification about fast charging.
I think it's relevant which cable is used for QC 3.0. I've bought an 1.8m USB-C cable where fast charging doesn't work at all. With the original USB-C cable which was bundled QC 3.0 works.
Best wishes,
Alex

Anker Powercore+

I have the powercore+, works fine on my s7 edge, on my new s8 it only shows 'cable charging', not fast charging. Any ideas?

Not just different cable, make sure to try with the OEM cable first.
If it doesn't work, this is mine and it works pretty well. I tested it on S7, Note 7, S8+ and also use it to charge my Nintendo Switch through USB-C.

Yup, tried it with the OEM cable and third party cables... Thanks for that link - seems a little big in comparison, but will check it out!
Same here. Tested with original cable and Aukey USB 3.0 cable. Doesn't work. However, use Wall Charger with the same cable does work with quick charge.
Make sure to charge your phone sparingly or youll kill the battery cell life faster shorter charges throughout the day is healthier for the battery, and considering its a nonremovable battery this is a must know.
I was going to say, "Make sure you have fast cable charging enabled." But, fast charging doesn't work on my Anker Powercore + 26800 . Not much of a bummer to me as I've had the powercore for quite some time now, but I'd like to see the S8's technology used to its potential.
Hey guys, so i got the anker powerport speed 2 and it works fine. Here is the link to the one I have. By fine, I mean it fast charges.

I think it's more that older model doesn't support quick. charging with the USB c , I just ordered xiaomi power bank 2 because it's confirmed to quick charge with s8
My QC 3.0 wall chargers both reported fast charging, but QC 2.0 doesn't (Car charger, powercore+). Perhaps they change the definition of quick charge to QC 3.0?
I'm curious as to exactly which batteries you're trying, and are you sure the cable is plugged into a port that supports QC2 or QC3?
We had a discussion a while ago about batteries... see -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/accessories/external-batteries-t3582498
Short version... the the stock USB-A to USB-C cable that came in the box with my Verizon GS8+ (Snapdragon processor) works to quick charge with the following batteries and chargers (Phone indicates FAST CHARGING).....
older Anker Powercore+ 10050 (which supports QC2 output on its single port) They have since released an upgraded model that supports QC3
The QC2 port on my Anker PowerPort 6+ (it was QC2 when I purchased in January, and they have upgraded the model they are selling now to support QC3).
the QC2 port on my Aukey 10400 battery w/QC2 support on its single port.
Tronsmart 5 Port USB charger w/QC2 support on every port
The QC3 port on my Anker PowerPort 2 (the PowerIQ port doesn't support QC2 or 3)
The QC3 port on my RAVPower 20100mAh battery. Of course using the battery's USB-C port and a USB C to USB C cable, it does not fast charge. Using the "Smart 2.4A" port also doesn't fast charge. (that is expected because the "smart" and USB-C ports do not support QC2/3).
It also works with Choetech USB-A to C cables, and Anker USB-A To C cables
I just got a Verizon Galaxy S8... It acts the same as the GS8+. All of the above works as expected.

Dumb question I know, but I gotta ask... Anker's listed for the PowerCore+ 26800 on their web site -> https://www.anker.com/products/A1374011 indicates it only supports QC on ONE of the 3 USB ports. Are you plugged into the right port?

Yeah I'm using the correct port. Anker color codes which ports support QC. I noted that my Anker PowerDrive +2 fast charges the S8 with the same cable I used for my PowerCore+. So I did a little research.
The PowerDrive+ 2 supports QC 3.0. The PowerCore+ 26800 being sold on Anker's website supports QC 3.0 as well. I guess I have the older gen of the PowerCore+ 26800 because it's labeled as QC 2.0.
My assumption is that Samsung Fast Charging is compatible with QC 3.0.

Well, my Samsungs (S6, Note 5, S6 Edge+, S7, S8, S8+, and Tab S3) do quick charge with my QC2 stuff... as well as my QC3 stuff. So if your Anker supports QC2 output, it should fast charge the GS8.
hmm.... No idea why it doesn't.
(I know some of the Anker PowerCore and PowerCore+ support QC only on input, to charge the powercore itself, but not output which can get really confusing, and is my only beef with Anker's products... that isn't the case here though)
EDIT: Sorry, the Galaxy Tab S3 only fast charges with my chargers/batteries that support QC3.
I also have a Anker PowerCore+ with Quick charger 2.0 and it does not fast charge my S8+. I also have a CHOETECH with Quick charger 2.0 and it does not fast charger my S8+

Do you have a Snapdragon based S8+? I'm guessing Yes, since you are marked with Sprint. (I ask because I don't know how fast charging on the Exynos chip based phones works)
Which model PowerCore+? This is where Anker gets confusing... For example, the PowerCore+ 13400mAh supports QC2/3 to re-charge itself, but doesn't output QC, it only outputs the standard 5/2.4A . If that is the one you have, it wont fast charge the S8/S8+. And this PowerCore+ 20100mAh doesn't support QC at all (for input or output). Same with the PowerCore+ Mini which only supports 5v/1A input and output. So they wont Fast Charge the S8/S8+ either.
Where as the PowerCore+ 10050mAh recharges itself at the standard 5v/2A, but DOES Output QC3 (the original model was QC2 when first released). This one SHOULD Fast Charge the S8/S8+ (from experience, I can say mine does). The PowerCore+ 26800 only supports QC3 on a single designated port, so using that port, it should Fast Charge the S8/S8+. (I don't have this battery, so I can't confirm)
With reports of unable to Fast Charge using these QC2/QC3 batteries and chargers... I wonder if Samsung got something messed up in the phones? (I remember having issues with older Motos and my QC2 stuff... where the Motos didn't charge properly but my Samsungs did). Or could it be firmware/rom related from different carriers? Like mine is Verizon and works, and yours is Sprint...

Adaptive fast charge

So I took my white block and compared it with s8 plus black block and noticed they are exactly the same voltage. So I'm assuming s8 plus uses Qualcomm 2.0 still. But does any 1 have a 3.0 or even 4.0 and can confirm it's fast charging?

Well that doesn't help because it could work on the 2.0 backward compact, unless you also got the Samsung charger. If u do, is the charge time less with anker?
Ok so I have an adaptive fast charger 2.0 car adapter. I bought a blackweb charger from walmart that says Qualcomm 3.0 on it. So surprise, it said same charging time in both adapters, meaning s8 plus still uses 2.0

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Xiaomi Mi A2 can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The phone ships with a quick charge 2.0 charger. The phone supports 3.0 and also 4.0 for India markets. Mine is Malaysian so it's 3.0. With stock charger it takes 1 hour 20mins + to get fully charged. Not too bad. With a QC 3.0 charger (Using my mi max 2 charger) it takes about less than an hour to get fully charged based on estimates. Charges quite quickly to 70% so stock charger is actually fine.
I think it supports USB PD as well, I used my pixel 2xl charger and it showed that the phone is charging rapidly, will do another full test and post results!

I don't think QC 3.0 is that much slower compared to QC 4.0. It's not like Oppo's new charge system, now that's quick haha. QC 3.0 is fine. I am still using QC 2.0 and it's all good no issues with it.

If you own a Global Version, your device will only support QC 3.0. Only Indian Variants support QC 4.0
My A2 unit is behaving quite strange, first let me say that Ampere is not so reliable as a USB power monitoring device, which I have (this unit gets you also the voltage which is being supplied to the phone).
MY measurements (with supplied USB-C cable) are:
- Stock charger: 1,6A voltage 5V
- QC 3.0 charger: up to 2,4A voltage 6,5V
- QC 2.0 Charger (works with Asus Zenfone 2 and Galaxy S8 on quick) - sometimes ZERO - just shuts down after a minute
Other 2A 5V chargers often not more than 0,6A (depending on cable)
So, A2 is very sensitive with cables and charging electronics and probably cannot accept 9V.
Global version.
Sometimes the phone when plugged in charger shows "Charging slowly" and sometimes "Charging Rapidly", What's up with that?

With a Power Delivery 3.0 charger and smartphone off, it can surely be charged with a voltage of about 9V.
I don't know if it's possible also in other cases.
Is the QuickCharge 4.0 a software or a hardware feature in the Indian version? Just wondering if QC 4.0 can be "unlocked" in the global version through future software tweaks?

Power Supplies for Tab S4

On another thread, Berkowich made mention that Tab S4 supports PD Power, but not CH3.
These were not terms I was familiar with, so I turned to Google... So QC, QC 2.0 and QC 3.0 make sense. The "adaptive fast charger" in the box with the Tab S4 has outputs at 5 & 9 volts, so I assume it is QC 2.0 and it switches between 5V and 9V as the battery is filled to more efficiently charge the battery. But I see QC2 talks about 5V, 9V and 12V. So is this the same and/or safe? And it isn't clear to me how PD Chargers are different? Just more current? Are they safe for the Tab S4? What is the type of non-Samsung charger to buy?
Thanks
Joe
PD typically refers to USB Power Delivery, which is a fast charging specification developed by the non-profit USB-IF organization. It is the actual open-industry standard.
Quick Charge, even though it is in many devices, is actually a proprietary standard owned by Qualcomm. Some device manufacturers choose to not implement QC even when they use Qualcomm chips in order to save on licensing fees.
QC 2.0 & 3.0 are not in compliance with the USB-PD specifications. However, QC 4.0 is.
Samsung has its own quick charging technology and only some but not all of their devices are compatible with QC 2.0 standard.
USB-PD - https://www.usb.org/usb-charger-pd
Official Certified QC device list - https://www.qualcomm.com/documents/quick-charge-device-list (Note that the Tab S4 is nowhere on the list)
Let me reask the question....
I have have several different types of chargers... Older 1A and less chargers from miscellaneous devices. A few 2.4A / 5V chargers that either came or were purchased for older devices I have around the house. Two Samsung Adaptive Fast chargers (9V/1.67A + 5V/2A), one that came with the Tab S4 and another that came with an S7 Edge.
So which of these is optimum for charging the Tab S4?
Will the 2.4A charger be slower than the 2A adaptive charger?
Is there another type of charger that would work better for the S4?
Can some chargers damage the S4?
Does it make a difference if I'm using an HDMI/USB hub? (Mine always says I'm slow charging / draining the battery when I plug the 2A adaptive charger into the hub.)
Thanks for your help -- this is a more complicated subject than I thought.
Edit: there's a link on the charge time thread that leads to another link that helps answer some of my questions.
https://www.xda-developers.com/charging-comparison-oneplus-huawei/
https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/how-does-fast-charging-work/
This seems to say that the best bet is a Samsung adaptive charger or a QC 2.0 charger that will throttle back to Samsung's standard.
This doesn't answer what is best when using a hub, and what dangers there might be using non Samsung chargers.
On a related subject, years ago I learned that all USB 2.0 charging cables were not equal -- that you need to look at the gauge of the charging wires, and that you could have huge differences in charge speed based on the cable you used. Are all USB C cables equal with respect to charging? Or do you need to look for fatter gauage / bigger wires to get more current / less voltage drop over the cable?
thanks,
Joe

Actually does someone that has an accurate usb meter help us. When i look for the charging support for the Snapdragon 835 on the web, it says QC4.0 but i can't find any QC4.0 chargers and i think it is the same with PD that i say on the other thread (it is just a think by the way because there is no QC4.0 chargers soo it is maybe a PD equivalent).
By the way when you are using the HDMI dongle(just HDMI and charging) did you use the original charger and the cable because there is no slow charging notification when i use it?
