Why do u need a 3rd party wall charger? Is the one provided by Samsung not good nuf? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Accessories

I see a bunch of 3rd part wall chargers. What gives? Are they faster / better? If so, what are the best?
Or is it the same as Samsung's provided one?

Third party chargers are typically cheaper than OEM. Should perform the same, though.

They vary In quality. Some are just as fast, some are slower.
If you need a spare charger then if often more economical to buy 3rd party. Anker are a good quality brand that are fairly priced.
Airax

It is not about people wanting a different one, it is about people wanting extra ones and not wanting to pay the OEM price.

[Q] How do I identify a genuine or non-genuine S2 battery?

It seems like most of the ones on ebay are actually advertising themselves genuine, which is doubtful considering the prices they're selling for.
Compare the build/size/exterior labeling to a genuine one. If it's got the exact same exterior, I honestly doubt you can tell for absolute certain. However, in my experience, Samsung batteries are always at or very very close to rated capacity. If a battery isn't anywhere near rated capacity yet has Samsung labeling on the exterior, you can either assume it's a knockoff or it's a bad genuine battery which you'd return/get a replacement for in either situation.
And obviously the way you can get a rough guide on capacity is by using a battery app to compare how many mV you have on a full charge with a genuine Samsung battery & one that looks genuine but you believe is a knockoff.
Edit - Yep, price is normally a dead giveaway too. Tho genuine SGS2 batteries can be had fairly cheaply sometimes (say $25-30 Vs $35-$40 normally as an example, if it's $15 it's almost certainly a knockoff. I wouldn't buy one without the chance to examine it & test it with the ability to get a refund if I wasn't happy with it (Which I did with an OEM battery once; wasn't advertised as genuine tho).
In trying to find a genuine 2000mah Samsung for myself, I ended up paying a little extra ($40ish) off eBay for one which is as described by MistahBungle. As a side note, if you have an i9100 as opposed to s2 variant, don't touch it unless its product code is K1A2EBEGSTD. Not sure about the product codes for s2 variants.
Edit: also note that the above code is for the 2000mah battery, not the standard 1650

I ended up buying what *looks* like a retail, official, genuine Samsung battery from ebay (so hopefully not as expensive as buying from a shop). It's not worth risking it for a non-genuine, they last like 2 weeks and die.
Wise move & exactly what I thought after I had that one experience with a non-genuine battery. Pay a bit extra for the genuine article, it just plain works.
(FWIW, the prices I was referring to are for genuine 2000mAh batteries, you can get genuine 1650mAH batteries for surprisingly good prices -~14 Euro)

In addition to that you should also check the weight of the battery. There original one weights about 33 gramms while non-genuine ones often weight only about 25 grams (and obviously have less capacity).
Yep great point

It's also easy to judge if you simply use it for a couple of days and see how long it lasts on a singe charge. A genuine battery will work for a good couple of days. A fake will be dead in a day.

Best battery in stock case

I'm looking to buy a second battery for my Note 3, but I don't want to get one in an extended case. I'm looking for one that fits inside the standard case. Don't need wireless charging or anything like that, just a standard battery.
I found this one searching the forum from Amazon. Is that about as good as I am going to find? Or are there better options?
I just bought the anker one from amazon. I've trusted their batteries in the past. That's another good option.
Follow up question here:
If I'm going to go with a battery in the standard case, would it be better to just get an extra official Samsung battery? What's the advantages/disadvantages of going with a 3rd party over Samsung?
I've always bought hyperion. They are great.

If you have the money to burn you know that samsung oem batteries will work and work well.
For a lesser price Anker, RAVPower, Hyperion, etc. can be found for much lower prices with good return policies via Amazon or other reputable sites and sellers.
Does anyone know of one of these extended batteries that is also Qi compatible (wireless charging) and fits in the original case?

Fast Charge Bundle - Wireless Charging Stand, Battery Pack and Vehicle Charger - $99

If you need a USB C vehicle fast charger, fast charge battery pack and fast wireless charger, this bundle from Verizon is $99 and comes in 3 choices of colors for the fast wireless charging stand:
https://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/samsung-fast-charge-everywhere-bundle-blk/
https://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/samsung-fast-charge-everywhere-bundle-sil/
https://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/samsung-fast-charge-everywhere-bundle-gld/
I bought this and the fast charge battery pack is very nice. It comes with a cable that has a micro USB plug and a USB C adapter that is hooked onto the cable by a loop so you can charge both micro USB and USB C devices. The color reminds me of the orchid gray S8, it's very premium looking and feeling. It has pass through charging too so you can both charge a device and the battery pack at the same time.
The fast wireless charging stand is great, it has a fan in it to help to dissipate heat.
The fast charge USB C vehicle charger has a coiled cable, which I really like for storing in my console, but I wish it came with a USB C to micro USB adapter so that it could be used to charge both types of device. You can buy USB C to micro USB adapters on amazon and ebay.

You could similar items on amazon for about $50 for all three. I usually stay away from bundles Verizon sells. Everything is cheaper on amazon.

Not of the same quality/design. The Samsung fast charging wireless charging stand has a fan in it that helps to keep the device cool while fast charging. I haven't seen any of the other brands have something like that.
The fast charging battery pack not only comes with a micro USB cord with a USB C adapter, it has a loop that makes it easy to carry. It is a very premium looking and feeling device. The color also goes well with the orchid gray S8. That may not matter to you, but I like things that look stylish.
The vehicle charger has a coiled cord, which again, is something that may not matter to you. I will only buy vehicle chargers with coiled cords as I find them so much less likely to get tangled up in my console. The only thing I would improve on is to have a USB C (female) to micro USB adapter included so that you could charge both types of devices. You can buy those on amazon or ebay.
You could get a 2 pack of the samsung (with fan) wireless charges from Woot:

I have the first one. Been using it for a while since i had my S7 Edge.
As far as the battery pack ya the strap is a neat idea. But still much cheaper and better ones on the market. Personally I have one that can jump start cars if need be, has a flash light, and has the quick charge feature that was $50.
The coiled car charger is also good but since i have multiple devices (work phone, personal phone, and wifes phone) i have a multiple outlet quick car charger.

Thanks, the first one is not a stand though, I like the stands. The 2nd - 4th are 2 coil stands and if you read in the reviews, the reviewers say they won't charge the Note 5 in portrait position, which is a problem I had with the 3rd party chargers. The Samsung one works with my Note 5 in either portrait or landscape position. That won't matter to you if you don't have a Note 5, but I do and also I will likely be getting the Note 8 so it could be a problem for that device.

How big is that though? I want something portable and I like how attractive the Samsung one is too.
And not only can the Samsung battery pack fast charge your phone, it also has fast charge so it fast charges if you use the Samsung adaptive fast charge plug to charge it. And it can do passthrough charging and fast charge your phone while it is fast charging itself.

When you buy retail, especially from a phone provider, you're ALWAYS going to overpay for the same thing rather than when you buy from Amazon or somewhere online.

No, not at all. For Samsung OEM products, the Verizon bundle is better priced than anything you can get on Amazon. The person you were responding to is recommending generic products, some of which may be OK, but they aren't Samsung products and aren't as stylish. I have used plenty of the cheaper products sold by those manufacturers and lots had problems. Plus they are cheap looking. The Samsung products are nicer.
It may not matter to you what a wireless charging stand looks like in your home sitting out on a desk or table, but it matters to me. I have a very nice looking decor and the silver Samsung wireless charging stand looks premium, not like those cheap products you can buy off of Amazon.
This is a great deal for what you get. You can always buy cheaper generic products but you can't find a better deal on the Samsung charging stand and battery pack.

I'll just repeat what I wrote earlier. This is an atrocious price. You can do better for official samsung wireless chargers (2 for the price of less than 1 from verizon):
https://electronics.woot.com/offers/...d_cat_elec_2_2
This is like people who buy stuff from bigbox retail stores like bestbuy. I had to walk a friend who bought $50 HDMI cable from PC Richard and Sons and was told the cable was needed because she had Verizon Fios and that was the only type of HDMI cable that would work with Verizon Fios. When I went back with this friend and asked the in-store "expert" who told her this in the first place, the woman looked at me and said, "oh, you work in computers, don't you?" I just smiled and made her take the cable back and give my friend her $50 + tax back.
The phone carriers sell overpriced accessories because a lot of the people who get their phones think that if they're already in the store, the "official" products must be better. There are a LOT of people who still don't comparison shop on the internet.
What Verizon is doing in this instance is price gouging of people who don't go comparison shopping. It's sad, but I see it all the time.

It's sad when people think that buying name-brand at full price is the "official" way to go. The rest of us will simply pay less and wonder why you end up in such debt. However, your nice car, your nice home, and nice phone will all make you nicely poor. I prefer to spend my money on real products that aren't sold at full price.

Not at all. I live within my means, I just have a lot of means. I am a very successful person.
You can buy a lot of cheap crap on Amazon, have at it. Life is short, I can afford nice things so I buy them. I still have plenty saved for retirement and I own my on home outright, no mortgage. Car is paid off too.
Regardless of how much money I have, this is a GOOD deal.

I'm sorry, but when you have boast about your "success" to justify spending too much on accessories does not work. Your "good deal" was a bad deal. Bundle deals are scams, much more when you buy at a retail store. No matter how much you make, if your a millionaire, middle class, or minimum wage, when it comes to money, shop smart and do your research.
Maybe it's just my phone, but the 2nd-Gen Samsung Wireless Fast Charger Stands (Last years model, not this years.. I have two different ones) do not properly charge my S8. It just constantly turns on and off every second or two. This happens no matter if the phone is positioned vertically or horizontally. Other wireless chargers that I have (non-samsung) work fine

I have last year's model in black and it works fine to fast charge my S8/S8+. I have this year's in silver and it too works fine to fast charge my S8/S8+. They have a 1 year warranty so I would hit up Samsung to get a replacement if it has been less than 1 year since your date of purchase.

I just unsubscribed to the thread but was notified that you had quoted me. Honestly, if he wants to pay full price for his accessories, it's what the carriers and the manufacturers love. Consumers who don't shop around and pay retail. Makes them really happy. I'll opt to make my wallet happy and the manufacturers/carriers unhappy.

This. Anker is the only company I will buy chargers and cables from. Very high quality and customer service is world class, should you need it.
Amazon's Kindle Fire cables, I use em religiously. It takes a LOT to make them break.
If you're into buying stuff from chine, I couldn't recommend Aukey enough.
Anker my friend. They are very well built at a good price. Never seen one even wear out. Plus those 5 or 6 packs of powerline from amazon comes with a handy 1 footer for flashing
Anker Powerline+ is the only cable I could recommend. PROS: Amazing strength, quality, comes up to 10 feet. CONS: Few colors, kind of expensive for a cable. Review: The cable is superb quality, and the Powerline+ Series (and Anker in general) has great quality control. Warning: Beware, the regular Anker Powerline (non +) cable that I used to have had a quite low quality tip, and began slipping from my phone's port after a month of moderate use (which to me was a huge deal). My Powerline+ has yet to suffer that, and still provides a great snap and fits snug in my port after 2 months of moderate usage. Bottom line: Worth the price, and it isn't even THAT expensive. Great and probably best overall cable.

Where to buy Genuine or Approved T4500E GT-P5210 Battery

Seems like everything out there (Amazon and NewEgg only has Market Place sellers for them) is Fly-By-Night.
If there was a quality after market battery, like Anker, I'd go that route, however, Anker doesn't make them.
Everything I have read indicates that these 3rd party batteries are inferior and do not last. (I can confirm that with the Brand X failed battery in my 10.1)
Thanks
