No. It is root related. Just add this to your /system/build.prop :

Did you flashed SuperSU or Magisk again? Maybe you were rooted before and you need to reflash root. Pay attention to OP instructions and to the text printed in recovery.

Sure. I'll attach here a mixer_paths.xml file modded by @AlexisXDA but boosted by me for a perfect surround sound volume. All the credits are going to this developer.
To use it, download the attachment, go to /system/etc and rename the existing mixer_paths.xml to mixer_paths.xml.bak then copy the new mixer_paths.xml and change the permissions to rw-r--r-- or 0644.
It won't damage your earpiece so keep calm

5. Synapse is saying:
Note: Before proceeding with the following stuff, please flash my kernel package again.
- "No UCI support" → Close the app from recents and open it again. If still no UCI support then PM me with the output of this command: uci (run it with su permissions).
- "JSON configuration parsing failure" → Using a file manager go to /res/synapse and delete a file named "config.json", close Synapse then open again, UCI error, reopen and done.
- The apply and discard buttons appeared for no reason. Which one should I click? → Click "X". This is a bug in Synapse.
- Is there a mod for Synapse? → Yes, Morogoku worked on it and I modified it a little bit to match our kernel and I built it. Get it from the attachments below. All the credits are going to Morogoku. It features backup/restore profile option and a red material theme.
6. Where to install BusyBox? In /su/xbin or /system/xbin. I'm using SuperSU and Synapse is working perfectly. After each boot up I highly recommend you to check the Synapse settings, especially CPU OC to see if everything is ok.
7. How to build your kernel from source?
After you git cloned it, open terminal in the root of the cloned folder and enter this: "sudo bash build_kernel.sh G920F" (or your model). Choose stock dt.img during building process.
8. AOD is broken! I know, sorry. Maybe in one day I'll fix it somehow. While playing music it won't reboot but when not playing any music it will reboot. Also touchscreen isn't working in AOD mode. Use this app to get a working AOD.

It should work with other regions but some devs implement features in their ROMs and that requires a custom kernel built specifically for that ROM.

I mean I have feature X which needs some "help" from kernel so I implement Y in kernel for X to work successfully (where X is an important feature in system).
If you switch to another kernel which doesn't have my Y implement you can end up in a bootloop.

I dont know where you got this info from, but all N custom kernels out for the S6 are already permissive. You need to edit straight from the source instead of a script in ramdisk to setenforce 0 or whatever method you tried.

Thank you! I also planned to share my changes for further contributions. After I make the changes I'll include you as a contributor.
I wanted to use the same thing (force permissive SELinux) because my first try was not including it.

Yes.
I don't know if flashing this kernel on other ROMs will work (of course, after I fix the bootloop after reboot). I wonder if AnyKernel will help to use it with other ROMs. Also I plan to add SuperSU auto root but maybe others will use Magisk so this is just an idea.

Important / read before flash mandatory
This is the first stable SimplKernel build which is 5.1.1 based and unified. It only supports 5.1.1 and the listed variants. No other variants.
For W8: Seems that you can run 5.1.1, but no new bootloader. If you run 5.1.1 and this and have fingerprint on your Rom, the second boot won't work anymore and you'll need Odin. A Rom with removed Fingerprint may solve it, but I don't have a W8 and can't test or say for sure. Best is to wait for the new bootloader alltogether.
For all other variants: This should work on L/S/K, if/when they receive 5.1.1, but someone will need to confirm by flashing.
Same counts for I.
If you run 5.1.1 without the new bootloader, you will encounter the same issue described above for the W8. Same counts: Better wait for the new Bootloader.

If you apply Interactive or simplgov in Synapse, ALWAYS enable it for both clusters. Enabling it for only one will cause funny effects, perhaps even a solid chaos, batterydrain and other unpleasant things. You've been warned.

I looked at your github. What are the memory killer tweaks? I don't see anything that really seems to correlate to memory killer. Also, how did you disable OOM killer? From what I've seen, OOM is present but does nothing. I'm just asking for my own sanity

Oh, my changelog for this build is as confused as my current state of mind is. OOM is back and enabled in this build, it was disabled prior to building in the configuration.
And looked at the commit history, yes you do seem to be right about missing memory-killer patches.
Sorry, I haven't managed to get all the patches I used to run in yet. Something was blocking boot for all week, thats why 3 governors are still disabled.
Today was my graduation day, it's a bit turbulent.. Published today instead on next Monday/Tuesday since it only lacks some minor patches at the moment

OK, just making sure I'm not going crazy. I've spent months trying to figure Samsung's method of memory management out, my head has nearly exploded more times than I can count. I wouldn't waste your time with OOM or LMK stuff in the kernel. It does nothing. All of the memory management stuff is in the services.jar, and they're changing it in the next update. So the little bit I have figured out will be useless lol. Congrats on graduating too BTW

Does this kernel root also? I use one of the kernels that rooted 5.1.1 automatically and want to know if I will lose root by flashing this. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks Yeah, they work in mysterious ways that much is true. Otherwise disabling it should have solved it. Well, it didn't. At least I found a method to get new sourcecode within 15min after the firmware release.. They kind of rolled out the red carpet for me now.

Theoretically, yes. In reality I updated the ramdisk about 5min prior to uploading and couldn't test if it works. But I believe that it does

Interactive, it's greatly adapted to the clusters and twice as big as the "usual" old Interactive thanks to it. You can also give simplgov a shot, it's basically Interactive with some changes I wanted to try out

Just flashed the kernel lets see how it performs. Currently on the interactive governor. Can you give some insight into your simplgov governor? What does it compare to?

INSTALLATION & UPDATE:
If you have Synapse installed = = you must clear Synapse app data before flash !!
Device Settings: Enable Developer Options > OEM UNLOCK is ENABLED
Boot into custom recovery (volume UP + home + power)
DO NOTHING but flash SkyHigh kernel.zip (ALWAYS flash again AFTER any custom ROM installation, system or data wipe)
After flash == DO NOTHING but REBOOT IMMEDIATELY from TWRP or you will have to re-flash !!
CONVERT EXT4 TO F2FS FS:
If not already, install the latest TWRP for your device variant (ie. 3.0.2-2). This must support F2FS.
Boot into TWRP.
Insert USB-OTG
** ALL DATA WILL BE WIPED FROM INTERNAL STORAGE (restored later)
Backup (copy) all important files (incl. your NANDROID) off device (ie. from internal storage > USB STORAGE). This can take a while. Advanced > File Manager > .....
Home > Backup > Select Storage > USB Storage > OK > "Swipe to Backup" (Only need DATA, but recommend to backup all partitions).
Install > Select Storage > USB Storage > OK.
Select f2fs.zip > "Swipe to confirm flash" (This will WIPE ALL DATA !! & convert DATA & CACHE to F2FS. System is not supported by kernel).
Check the box to remember setting and “Swipe to allow Modifications”.
If you do not have Step #8, then Data was not converted to F2FS.
Mounts > unchecked both Cache & Data. Repeat Step #7 & 8.
Restore > Select Storage > USB Storage > OK > Select TWRP Backup folder > DATA ONLY !! > "Swipe to Restore" (ignore warning about EXT4).
Home > Install > Select Skyhigh_kernel.zip > "Swipe to confirm Flash".
Home > Mount > USB STORAGE > uncheck/unmount (then remove USB-OTG).
Home > Reboot > SYSTEM.
Wait ~2-5 mins for boot.
Once booted, let stabilize for ~5 mins.
You can check Data & Cache F2FS FS status in either /proc/mounts or Synapse app (FS section).
Use a root type explorer (su permission) & navigate to /sdcard, and delete the "0" folder.
Move (copy) your backed up files from Step #4 to internal storage (/sdcard). This can take a while. Maybe one folder at a time is better?
ISSUES ?
If using TWRP MTP mode, deleting some folders/files may crash TWRP and cause corruption. Instead, use a root type file explorer to delete from device.
If you need to wipe data, then use the ext4 or f2fs.zip, otherwise this is not possible with this TWRP !!
Not tested any method with customized ROMs. The ROM installer script may re-format partitions back to EXT4 or not mount correctly causing TWRP crash or corruption. I can only suggest to Flash ROM with EXT4 FS > make a NANDROID on USB-OTG and then follow the F2FS steps above.
CONVERT F2FS TO EXT4 FS:
The Same steps as above, but use the ext4.zip !!
OPTIONAL SYNAPSE INSTALLATION:
After boot:
Wait at least 120 secs to stabilize
Install Synapse app from Google Play and rate it ☆☆☆☆☆ !!
Open Synapse
Tap "Understood"
So changes stick every time you start Synapse == Make any change & 'apply'.

Without resetting your device to a stable unmodified baseline, any potential troubleshooting or logs could be meaningless.

Although I do appreciate your contribution, if you could please do not include my kernel in any ROM package etc. This policy goes for anyone.
Having my kernel distributed outside my development thread just removes a lot of credit and more importantly, constructive user feedback that could be helpful to my development or user issue.

It is "recommended", which is OPTIONAL, and not "needed".
It is for ADVANCED or adventurous users who wish more control of their device or use various features I've added.
Using any other optional tweaking or control app may conflict & many features and options won't be available.
WHY WAIT 120 SECS
The kernel and Synapse scripts need time to boot up properly and allow SU permission.
There are scripts / code that have a deliberate delay and must run after Synapse. These are not user optional.
Synapse has a stability check on boot. You may get "synapse boot cancelled".
Thermal throttling will be trying to limit many things, let the device settle
OTHER PARTY CAN NOT HEAR VOICE ON SPEAKER PHONE
It could be a conflict in the system/etc/mixer_*.xml. I don't know for sure, but if I exclude the sound mod, then this "fixes" the problem.
As I cannot reproduce the issue (and the majority), then the audio mod stays.
Unfortunately, making it optional would require to build kernels without and create much more work for many device I don't actually use.
Either live with it, or use another kernel. Sorry.

CHROMECAST - STREAMING PROBLEMS
Lock screen MUST be enabled (simple screen lock swipe) I don't know why but it breaks the chromecast app's ability to resume smoothly if switched off

Please find my latest release for SkyHigh kernel. There are many many changes, both visually (more / improved features) and a upgraded engine (better performance & efficiency) since I last publicly released. Far too many to talk about. . . .
Please note that although I have taken as much care in building and testing by my friends and I, the kernel may still not perform as hoped for you. Could be due to various factors including (but limited to):
hardware quality
firmware installed (incompatibility)
user habit (how you use the device)
apps & mods installed, customization's (conflicts)
user kernel settings (read them carefully - if in doubt == defaults)
As noted in Post #3, I may not have your device variant and not be always able to help either. In the end, sometimes SkyHigh is just not meant for you . . . .

I don't know if it's a bug, On the first attempt I tried to boot on Enforcing but didn't boot, at the Samsung logo it vibrated consequtively, bzz, bzz .... bzz, bzz like. But Permissive works fine. I am fully operational besides Blue Filter not working.

Might be to do with UX or your ROM. I only test that on 100% stock ROM and worked fine at the time.
The blue light filter bug for UX is known and has already been reported / added to the "BUG REPORT" tab. (View in website mode on PC).
Please be aware that I extensively test only on stable stock firmware. Not beta leaks etc. So some UX bugs may or may not get fixed. I personally use stock.

about doubletap2wake and sweep2sleep:
this new update was supposed to have dt2w and sweep2sleep. I've added them by using the commits from other kernel and they were working, both. However, there were some issues:
1) dt2w wasn't working on the full screen. Even after choosing "full" in kerneladiutor, i still had to double tap in the bottom of the screen (half) to wake it. When i was double tapping on the other half of the screen (top), it wasn't working.
2) i dont know if sweep2sleep is supposed to work only in the bottom of the screen, but that's how it was working. It was fine though.
3) phone wasn't going to deep sleep, even when both were off. This is the major issue and that's why i've removed dt2w and sweep2sleep. I don't really have the knowledge to fix that and i'm not willing to spend time for that. Those commits which i've picked has powersuspend hooks and i had to update powersuspend to v1.8.1 as that kernel. Perhaps this version of powersuspend wasn't working properly and that's why it was causing the phone to not go into deep sleep? I don't know...

- added quick wakeup driver: Allow kernel driver to do periodic jobs without resuming the full system. It should increase battery life.

- enabled conservative governor
- fixed some memory leaks
- fixed a problem where reboot on android panics the kernel almost every time when file systems are mounted over loop devices
- updated power efficient workqueue + fixes; enabled by default
- added gpu governor whitelist to prevent you from enabling gpu governors which are unstable / incomplete (bw_hwmon, bw_vbif, gpubw_mon; all those 3 make the phone freeze once are enabled). Now when you try to enable those, it wont change anything.

- increased charge time from 30s to 100s when battery status is near full
(when charger is online for a long time, such as 12 hour, the battery status changes from charging to full and resumes charging.
The reason is that battery is not full at the first full state. So increse charge time from 30s to 100s when battery status is
near to full. This methods will reduce the number of recharging time)

small update
Few screenshots were attached at the end of first post.
There has been a small issue in the script of Anykernel, so OTA wont work. I have fixed this and updated the download links.
Please download and reinstall again in order to get OTA working. Im sorry for this small issue.

Installing kernel now, will get back with results in a couple of days.

This kernel is made for J500FN (using J500FN sources) but because it's using AnyKernel2, it should work on all models.
I've wrote this at notes in first post:
2. This kernel uses AnyKernel 2, just like the Linaro Kernel by Nick Verse. So, it should work on all Galaxy J5 (2015) models. You test and report.

Now i can resume to RR, to work on a final update. RR kernel will also have Tensei features and probably few other changes for improving the battery since CM is faster than Touchwiz.

Phone "feels" faster, but that could also just be a placebo.
The only bug I've found yet is that my camera froze once after double-tapping to open it, but that hasn't happened since.

Some personal thoughts:
- this kernel works only on J5 2015 versions. I`m not responsable for what can happen if you flash on other devices.
- v2.3 for J5 already includes all the previous things from A5 releases.
- if you take any of my work without my permission i'll report you, and you'll probably get banned.

FAQ:
Q: My wifi is broken after flash. What to do?
A: Flash latest modem available for your device.
Q: Can`t connect to wifi network. What to do?
A: Reboot the phone, reboot the wifi router/ap, make sure you don`t have mac filtering enabled on ap/router.
Q: MAC adress has changed. What to do?
A: There is nothing you can do. That happens because of newer wifi module, built along with kernel, from the latest sources. If you can`t connect see Q2 above. I won`t change back to legacy wifi modules, at least not now.
Q: Device appears as "unauthorized" in adb and notification to authorize doesn`t appear. What to do?
A: Enter developer options, disable usb debugging, wait 30 seconds and re-enable it. Now you should see the notification to allow debugging.

If you set a different GPU frequency to 720Mhz when the GPU is at 100%, is the Max frequency set or rising to 720 ignoring the set frequency? ?
Finally something interesting for the lands of the J5

I added 50Mhz for some certain scenarios, to step down the freq if the load is small - screen on but idle (i have screen timeout set to 10mins), or screen off and awake (for AOD on the roms that have it-my rom for A5). Anyway i have custom script in ramdisk that bypasses stock init.qcom.post_boot.sh and sets custom loads for all the frequencies, so the device can go down even to 50Mhz, but step up if the load is reached, so it doesn't lag at all.
About gpu - from what i saw it sticks to maximum set (i use kernel adiutor).
I mostly cherry-picked features and fixes, even from your j5(6) kernel [emoji16] since all are based on same soc. This project started as personal kernel, permissive with otg enabled (because A series has OTG disabled by Samsung), and after that decided to add more things and make it public.

You can see the GPU frequency in real time by using these commands in Terminal (PC):

1) The path may be different.
2) The current GPU frequency is the one with the asterisk.
3) Total transictions means the total switches between GPU frequencies.
Try these commands to confirm that the GPU frequency is stuck at 720.

We can bring the current fast charging also on custom roms or even improve the fast charging to support custom mAh and stuff like that. But forcing a battery to charge faster than it's limit can demage and reduce the battery life drastically so I think we will leave it just like that. Greetings

Skies Rom beta is a Note 7 Port rom .. so it is Grace UX not touchwiz ..

Referring to the intelli thermal, I do not know why faux124 used a different thermal control for the TSEN8974. I found that version 1 gives some errors in the logcat when I boot up the phone
I also started my kernel for personal use, specifically to be able to use viper4 ? I just needed the kernel to be permissive. And now look where the kernel go

Grace UX is touchwiz based. Non tw roms are lineage, cyanogenmod, or any other that uses AOSP as base.

I removed it from features/changelog since isn`t activated yet. I saw too late in msm8916 defconfig the CONFIG_THERMAL_MONITOR=y so the intelli_thermal isn`t there yet. I can`t even finish the build (lots of errors), and you have errors in logcat ?. You are way far than me. For now i didn`t had time to chase those errors. I`ll look more maybe next week. Anything else interesting in my source? ?

NOTES - MUST READ
1. Do not ask or request overclock. It wont be added.
2. This kernel uses AnyKernel 2, just like the Linaro Kernel by Nick Verse. So, it should work on all Galaxy J5 (2015) models. You test and report.
3. ROOT is not included in kernel, neither in the flashable zip. You have to flash SuperSU zip manually, after flashing the kernel.
4. For some reason, Kernel Adiutor still show the frequencies below 800Mhz, but those are not being used as i dont want to.
5. F2FS is not enabled yet.
6. I've just found that QuadRooter Scanner still show a vulnerability. I think I've forgot to apply a commit since on lollipop version it's fixed. I'll look later and it'll be fixed in next release.

REQUIREMENTS / COMPATIBILITY:
- Galaxy J5 2015
- Nougat ROM based on LOS/AOSP. While it should work on all, keep in mind that this has been tested mainly on LOS.
- TWRP 5.1.1
It should work on all models as ive stated at notes.
However, if it doesnt work on your model (other than J500FN) or if you encounter issues, then try to remove the dtb.img from kernel zip and flash it again after restoring the boot.img which the ROM you are using came with.
The dtb included in zip is J500FN one and thats why it may not work or you may have issues. Ive included the dtb because SoUnd001 did some changes to this (like using 50mhz frequency) and i dont want those changes. To overwrite those changes, i had to include the dtb.

- increased charge time from 30s to 100s when battery status is near full
(When charger is online for a long time, such as 12 hour, the battery status changes from charging to full and resumes charging.
The reason is that battery is not full at the first full state. So increse charge time from 30s to 100s when battery status is
near to full. This methods will reduce the number of recharging time)

- added back kcal (color control), drivedroid support and power efficient workqueues
- removed verifiedbootstate flag from /proc/cmdline (in order to pass the safetynet cts check with an unlocked bootloader, this patch is needed); i dont know if pokemon go game or something similar works now, you can check and report as im not playing those games)
- tweaks to improve i/o latency on ssd
- fixed few security vulnerabilities (such as dirtycow and quadrooter)
- many patches has been applied for faster i/o read / write
- governors are more friendly towards latency-sensitive bursty workloads
- and other misc tweaks

- reworked from scratch and based on caf source for more performance / smoothness (now i can clearly see a difference )
- updated gpu driver to mm source
- added crc toggle (enable / disable)
- enabled adaptive lmk by default and set vmpressure_file_min for msm8916 from caf
- disabled arch_power
- frezee bug is gone
- removed: Ota, kcal, soundcontrol, power efficient workqueues, zen governor, frandom
- removed also the ramdisk modifications as it may lower performance / smoothness. I might try again in future.

All the features are mentioned in first post. The governors you've mentioned aren't present, but the zen scheduler is.

Here's a thread with detailed descriptions/information about governors, I/O schedulers (including Zen), hotplugs, TCP congestions. There's also benchmarks and comparisons.

No. Please read my post here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72280158&postcount=131 . That doesn't mean that it can't have a good SOT. I've got 7-8h in past when I used CM13 and as you know it doesn't have these frequencies neither.
I'm waiting for feedbacks. Take your time for that.
Last but not least, lemme remind you again that this kernel wouldn't be possible without the guys mentioned at credits.
EDIT:
QuadRooter Scanner still show a vulnerability. I think I've forgot to apply a commit since on lollipop version it's fixed. I'll look later and it'll be fixed in next release.

Sadly I am not on 7.1.1 so i can't test this. :crying:

I guess you meant ramdisk which is a part of boot.img. No, it doesn't.
But if the ROM which you're using would get volte support, then it'll work with this kernel as well since it's using the ramdisk from the actual kernel.
E.g.: Let's say that there is a new update of LOS which has volte support (in ramdisk, but also rom). After flashing the new update, you'll get the kernel which ROM is using. Then you flash my kernel and it'll use same ramdisk with volte support because I'm using AnyKernel (Google it), so i wouldn't have to make the changes from the new update manually.
