AT&T EXPRESS 3 RUNNING ON J120AUCU2AQC1 firmware root method! super easy.... - Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) Guides, News, & Discussio

Im not quite sure if anyone has rooted the most recent firmware so im going to tell you how i did it =)
links will be provided at the end and yeah lets get started
step 1 !!! download the SM-J120A ENG boot(link below)and go ahead and flash it via odin.
DONT FREAK OUT! ITS GOING TO FAIL! Rest assured your phone witll boot back up but when it does you will notice in the "about phone" section of you phone's settings that Selinux is magically permissive......=)=)=)
step 2 !!! download latest Kingroot and let it works its weird Chinese magic voodoo lol....
AGAIN DONT FREAK OUT!! Due to kingroot being the zombie apocalypse of your poor phone, its going to be running like absolute garbage...
step 3 !!! go to the play store and purchase Chainfire's very own SUPERSUME!!!!! it is the best and fastest way to administer the "cure" for your phone and switch that deadly Kingroot for the nice foot massage that is SuperSU. If you're worried about SuperSuMe costing a few bucks then id say you've got a long and worrisome life ahead of you haha its only a few bucks and chances are you have'nt donated to Chanifire yet and should be ashamed!!!! without Chainfire we would'nt have the root we have today period, you all know i speak the truth =)
Conclusion!!!!!!! i know this may seem like a total joke post but i assure you, it is not a joke. this method with put a nice smelling fresh root on your at&t express 3 running on J120AUCU2AQC1 fimware as depicted by the screen shot below. you will also notice that it is running on the tmobile network with Volte, but thats a story for another day....sweet dreams bobbits.....
disclaimer!!!!!!!!! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DEVICE!!! I AM MERELY SHOWING YOU THE PATH TO ABSOLUTION, IT IS VERY MUCH YOUR DECISION TO WALK THAT ROAD....
i assure you this has been tested and retested and you should be just fine and when this method works for you(yup i said it...lol) when it works, hook me up with a thumbs up or something =)

But on which device J3? Sm-j320fn?

Root successful...........but
I was able to root with firmware version J120AUCS3AQE1 but because mine is an AT&T phone the bootloader is "locked and signed" meaning it's never going to unlock........? I have the latest version of firmware that came out in may 2017 and it will be available to you as soon as I can post an outside web address............ Every Recovery image that I flashed caused everything to fail and a big triangle that said AT&T detected software on your device that is not allowed on our device so I guess this one is never really your own........ but you can Root with Kingroot and supersume pro to get rid of bloatware and such but other than that no custom stuff on this one.
If Kingroot keeps freezing just restart phone and keep trying it took me a long while to obtain root.

Temp root not a "real" root: wait for permaroot

Mad props to TeamWin and all the devs for the root work, but I feel like a thread like this should exist for those thinking of playing with the current temp root. Most of the information out there would lead you to believe that the temp root can be used by the general user to root the phone and then use rooted apps until you reboot... or at least for a while.
Truth is, the temp root should be viewed as a dev tool for other devs to use the tool to move forward into developing s-off and/or a permanent solution. After playing with this root a little, not only will it not stick until a reboot but most of the apps that require root won't even work with this root. Of the half dozen apps I tried, only one would work. The others all proclaimed that the phone didn't have SU access.
So if you're looking to just get on the bandwagon early, my suggestion to the general user is wait for the permaroot. The current temp root is not a working solution even when it is fully engaged. Some say they use it to gain access to Titanium Backup to uninstall bloatware. Guess what? As soon as you reboot, all that crap is just reinstalled. Yeah you can freeze it, but that's not a real solution. And yes, there are ways to "hack" wifi tethering so it works but only for a little while and then you have to not only reroot but rehack.
So I don't think this root was ever meant to allow general users to gain a "non-sticky" root. It was meant for devs to do their work. As a user tool, it simply doesn't work... at least very well.
There... it needed to be said. I think TeamWin pretty much said all this when it was released, but it has gotten lost in everyone diddling while waiting for permaroot.
Mike
I don't think this concept has been lost by anyone who knows what they are doing with their phones; unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there that just do stuff to their phones, without really having a clue as to what the ramifications are...these are the same people who flashed all sorts of stuff on their Evo4g phones, then came here freaking out that they "bricked" their phones, and were begging for help..
If you put stuff on your phone, without being CERTAIN as to what you are doing, then, "you reap what you sow"..

This is exactly why I havent bothered to mess with the temp root, no real point to it right now other than providing a way for people way smarter than me to do work towards a permaroot and s-off.
Just wish they would hurry up ;-)
I agree with what everyone said, I will just wait for officials root.

[Q] 3 UK White Galaxy S 2 root

I have just started to use android. Galaxy S 2 is my 1st ever android device gifted by my wife on our 2nd anniversary. Even though it was bought in Lahore, Pakistan; it is 3 mobile UK branded gs2. I was about to root it watching this video: youtube(DOT)com/watch?v=KNVE0UDe-bQ
I realized that since this is branded and I cant even update it (which could mean that it is locked), I may not be able to root the device following this video. Also, I am confused since my device's build number and kernel number are pretty different (screen shot attached).
Can someone guide me easy to follow exact steps to root this device safely? If I mess up, my wife will use the brick on me .
What software would I want?
Where will I download the software from?
Where will I get the insecure kernel from?
I so want to use WIFIKILL at office

There is only one issue here.. I do not know what the ODS is as I am new here. It would be nice of you, if you would guide me with links?
You can remove network lock AFTER rooting. You can root using cfroot but ChainFire has only released cfroot for stock firmware not branded 3 firmware so you will need to flash to stock firmware, root, rhen use the network unlonk in the market. I found the CF one didnt work but the other one in the market works.
After you have done this then you can use ClockWorkMod (added with cfroot) to flash the gtalk with video.
There is alot to learn...

can root i9100G not? coz i having a problem on it
Thanks Rajesh. Let me show you the crap apps I am dealing with. The guide you are have referred to; will it work for my branded GS2?
I have another question. Can I de brand the device and get rid of all these apps without rooting it? I will not be able to use wifikill, but then if this is more complicated then rooting a non branded S2; I guess I will have to live with this! HATE IT!
Phone is now rooted!!!
Thank you everyone! My phone is now rooted and I am all set!

[Q] Should I root?

Ok, first off I'm a noob with rooting and things like that. My only experience is on my xoom a while back I came here for guides on how to get rid of the Canadian stock OS to put on the American one so I could get updates for ICS because motorola wasn't updating the Canadian and I was able to do it successfully without bricking. However, I've never rooted a device and I shamefully have only used iPhones in the past, so the s3 is my first android phone.
Theres lots of cool stuff I wanna do with a rooted phone but I'm reluctant for several reasons:
How dangerous is it really? I see the bolded red stuff saying they aren't responsible, but is it mostly a safety or is there really a large chance of bricking?
Should I wait? Like will people find safer/easier methods in the near future for rooting since its still a new device?
Should I not root if I don't know much about this stuff yet?
Thanks for any replies!
Rooting opens up so many more possibilities for this device. I made it 2 weeks before I rooted my S3. That's the longest I have ever gone before rooting a new device. lol It does officially void your warranty, but I've never had any issues exchanging a rooted device with [email protected] As always YMMV.
All in all, I wouldn't hesitate. It takes just a few minutes and is easy as pie. Just make sure you read and follow the directions as they are given.

Exactly as said above. I made it ten minutes after getting it on release day before rooting it. Rever got around to actually using the stock phone!
Root is simple enough just only thing to stress if you're a noob' is to make sure the battery is charged before doing anything. Nothing could really go wrong if you're following the correct instructions for your device.
And thought I'd share, not that this phone needs to be any faster, but with a few modifications on a touchwiz rom you get large improvements over stock. I wouldn't advise to OC often though, see here

Thanks! I guess I'll stop being a wuss and go try it out
One other quick question I forgot to ask-
When I root, am I done with it forever? Will I have to do a lot of stuff when updates come or anything like that or am I good to go?

hard bricked verizon GS4 see image

so i rooted my phone yesterday finally after a long wait because it is a verizon sch-i545 on vrugof1. i was thankful that they got it figured out. unfortunately because of my ignorance i bricked the stupid thing custom romming on top of custom rom. the 2 following pix show what the 2 screens say : 1st on the phone it says "your device didn't start up successfully. Use verizon software repair assistant to repair..." and 2nd when trying that on my desktop the repair button is greyed out on said repair software because it doesnt recognize my phone anymore. tried many times to get into download mode but it wont go past the start up failed screen. please if someone had this happen before please help. thank in advance.

If I am understanding you correctly you flashed a custom rom and it failed to boot. It is pretty hard to get into download mode with the combo when it is softbricked like that. An easy way to get into dl mode would to be to buy a download jig which are like $4 on amazon. Unless you flashed over recovery.img as well then you are in a completely different situation
please more info on these jigs or will that even help
thanks for the tip. none of the jigs on amazon right now say sch-i545 specifically but does it matter? i guess in order to get it asap i will just order the $5.99 from eopzol says will ship by monday. . anyway will it ship with instructions or how do i know what to do with it? maybe i should wait for your response to the rest of this explanation since you asked about recovery image i guess i need to be more specific about what i did. once i was rooted and granted rom toolbox premium superuser access i tried the top choice which was twrp. but instead of learning more about roms i thought i would try cwmr on top of it and so know you know what we are dealing with here. hence the fear i just crapped all over my phone. please tell me there is hope.
no longer bricked
with a lot of tries i was able to get back into download mode just trying over and over again until i got it and reflashed oc1 via odin3 and rebooted phone and it is still rooted! what a relief. didnt need jig but it may come inhandy since i ordered it anyway just in case. so no longer asking to get help with failed to start problem. i will post my other ? in proper place about fav roms.
i have been told and learned to be careful on use of the word brick
i have been told and have learned to not go around willy nilly throwing the word brick around. its like crying wolf. you really want to get help but not by tossing important industry lingo about without learning true meaning. now as far as this specific problem it is no longer valid and i have reposted an updated problem titled "vrugof1 maybe hiding under revert to vrugoc1 s4 stuck on verizon logo". so to the forum moderator this can be closed as no longer the issue.

How'd this work for you? I'm just wondering since I'm thinking about purchasing this phone tomorrow.
