Thin yet protective cases for the s8? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Accessories

Hi, I will be buying my S8 very soon and am having trouble picking out a good case for it. The most important aspect of this case is that it is not very wide because the width of the s8 is pretty much the perfect size for me. However, most thin cases I find don't offer much protection, especially for face-down drops. I had this same problem with my S7 edge and really dislike the size of my current case. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Spigen thin case.
Using since release, tried others, always came back to this quickly.

NB, also tried quite a few screen protectors. Taken all of them off within 5 minutes.
Apart from this one, works with that case really well.
Wings tuck under the case round the curved edges.
Not perfect, but good.

I'm using the Tech 21 Evo Check. The transparent black looks great on my black s8+, plus it adds decent protection without making it any bulkier.

I'm using Spigen's Neo Hybrid cover and it feels very sturdy, yet slim.

Similarly, I got the Gunmetal with Orchid Grey and it looks incredible. Not one whole piece like Black, but the metal color really goes with the ambiguous Grey.

I am using same, dropped phone 3 times, approx 1 to 1.5ft landed on screen at least once, The case small lip on screen top and bottom kept the drop from affecting the screen.
I will be getting a glass screen soon but impressed with this case, recommend 100%

Hey, I have a couple of suggestions depending on the power consumption of the user. If you are satisfied with the original power capacity of the battery I recommend the Spigen's Neo Hybrid. I have it on a normal day and it is great. If you are the power user I recommend the I-blades smart case. It is quite slim and Military Drop certified. It has snapping modules that I hope many more in the future

I have the Spigen thin fit case for three days. The finish is really sub par this time. Mist Spigen cases I had where great, but in this one the grippy finish already starts to peel off. Not a major problem, but I have black flakes all over my hands now and then.
The neo hybrid, as always, takes some usage to get grippy. Out of the box it's a bit slippery...

If you're looking for a transparent case then look into Spigen Ultra Hybrid or Ringke Fusion.
Ringke Fusion is not shipping until next week though. I'm using the Ultra Hybrid, I like the colors and its a nice case. Although I think I'd like the buttons to be separated so it'd be easier to see which key is what.
I have decided on the spigen slim armor in gunmetal. Sadly I dont have my nexus 6 yet but the case looks and feels awesome. I just fear that the vertical stand will break after a while but thats just a guess...
Ringke by far is my favorite just because the buttons are made a little better then the spigen.
I have been quite happy with the spigen slim armor. Mine has none of the QC issues the Amazon reviews have mentioned. My kickstand has never fallen out and I don't know how it ever could with the phone in the case. I think most of the overly negative reviews on the kickstand were from people who reviewed it before they even had the phone. The phone fits perfectly and is easy to get out. The one issue I do have with it is the flat buttons. It is virtually impossible to know which button you are about to press without looking which is kind of annoying. If they modify that I will buy a new one. I'd be happy if the Slim Armor had the button of the neo hybrid.
I used one of those slim Ringke cases on my nexus 5 and it scratched the corners of my phone when I removed it so I'll never use that brand again. I know this phone is different so maybe that's no longer an issue but once is enough for me.
Edit - I see you said you want a transparent case. That means my comments can be disregarded, lol...

Agreed and the buttons on the N6 are separated which prevents miss taps, its still not available for sale yet though. Using the Ultra Hybrid for the time being. Not sure how I feel about the caps on the N6 ports for the Fusion, they didnt use to have them.
Ringke for cases definitely. I have both for the N5 and for the N4 and Ringke does feel slimmer and very well made.
Spigen for Screen Protectors.
I ordered the Ringke Fusion Crystal
Pics of Spigen Ultra Hybrid with Spigen Ultra Crystal Screen Protector
I'm sure by now you've already obtained your case, though I thought I'd post some pictures of the Spigen (Crystal Clear) Ultra Hybrid along with a Spigen Ultra Crystal Screen Protector.
As you can see, it shows off the device, but still achieves maximum protection. The Case is a hard shell on the back, and soft rubber along the sides. Both are clear.
I haven't had any issues with the buttons on the case. If anything, the button placement on the actual phone will take some getting used to, though they are situated halfway down for a reason.
Enjoy!
P.S. These pics were taken from my iPhone 5S. Unfortunately.....
how is he mic hole placement. i have been thinking about buying one of these. it just all the reviews don't talk about making calls with the case on. it almost looked like the case covered up some of the mics.

I am using this case right now and really enjoy it. No issues with QI, NFC and it offers great protection for the minimalistic design. Case is very sturdy and fits like a glove. The only small gripe I have with it is the buttons. While they are very tactile it is very difficult to distinguish power from volume. Other than that its great.
I did order the ringke fusion, which is the basically the same case. The biggest differences between the spigden and the ringke I saw were plugs where the cutouts are, it comes with a screen protector AND the power button and volume rocker are much more pronounced (easier to distinguish) in my opinion. Both cases are great and if your curious about the other, here's a link.

They are flush, and built into the soft rubber material. I know many people are having issues with the button placement, but it hasn't been a problem for me. It's quite simple really, top is power, bottom is volume down, that leaves the middle for.... You guessed it! Haha

Haha, thanks. I've been an Android user since the G1. The iPhone is for work. FIgured since ALLLL of my personal devices have been Android, might as well try somethign different.
To be honest, I barely even touch my iPhone other than for responding to e-mails on the go, and emergency work calls. It was cool and interesting for about 2 days, though I will probably upgrade to the iPhone 6S plus when it becomes available (for work of course).
Spigen Perfect/Thin Fit VS Ringke SLIM
I have both the Spigen Perfect/Thin Fit and the Ringke SLIM cases in black. I started with the Spigen but didn't like the way the Motorola logo was the centerpiece of the back of the phone and also the case kept 'unclicking' out of position on the phone when it was in my pocket (so far in only 3 days this has happened around 5 times)... so I looked for an alternative and found the Ringke SLIM. I have to say I much prefer the Ringke, it's simple, it has very subtle branding (no cutcouts for motorola logo on the back either) and the cutouts for the inputs are nicer. It also has cut outs at the stress points that make it a bit more durable (less chance of the plastic breaking or the case stressing in general). Also, so far the Ringke has been rock solid and hasn't moved an inch on my Nexus 6. The only thing I miss from the Spigen is the soft touch black coating... but considering the other issues I had, this is perfectly acceptable.
I got the spigen neo hybrid, it's OK but makes the phone feel bulky and makes the screen bezel look huge. Also the buttons could be better designed, the nexus 6 has a smaller textured button and a longer volume button, spigen went for 3 buttons all the same size with no texture and in my coat pocket it's hard to get the right button to change volume when listening to music.

6 different slim case pictures/reviews(Bear Motion, Tudia, Ringke, Spigen, LK, Orzly)

I got 5 difference cases so far for my 6. I had an Incipio Feather on my G2 and it was slim and grippy with good protection. I wanted to find something similar with minimal bulk because the phone is pretty massive already.
I got these:

The phone is pretty big and slick on it's own as most of you know. I want something with a good grip that won't slide around easy and offers reasonable corner protection.
The grippiest by far is the Bear Motion. No contest on this one, it will not slip from your hand or surface. The only issue I have is it covers the sides really well, but the corners seem very exposed if you drop the phone at an angle.
The Tudia and the LK both had some grippy spots that were really nice (the clear parts of the case, the translucent was pretty slick), but overall they were not very great at all. While these rubbery cases would probably offer great protection all around, I really didn't like that they weren't all grippy, and the button covering bothered me. I found it hard to hit the buttons and tell which was which.
The Ringke case is very low profile. It also is around the entire phone making it very secure. I am sure it offers very good protection but it is not any grippier than the uncased phone, it might even be more slick and lead to more drops for me. It is also the only case I had a hard time removing the phone from, and I dropped my phone onto my tile counter getting it out of the case.
The Spigen case is great shape for me. It might be slightly thicker than the Ringke case overall, but not noticeable really. It is mostly open on the top and bottom, which I like a lot. Unfortunately it is pretty slick also and I don't like that one bit.
Based on my last case for my G2, I drop my phone on the corners a lot. I have attached a picture of the corners from my old case to show the damage, but the case probably saved my old screen.
I really like the Spigen case size and shape. I really dislike how slick it is. If I could combine it with the grip of the Bear Motion, that would be my ideal case. The plastic cases are fine, and the LK has some grip on the back for 25% of it, but I really dislike the button covers. I think I am going to have to go with the Ringke at the moment because it offers the most protection from falls (I hope). Since both it and the Spigen are slick and I will probably drop them, I want that extra coverage. Maybe I can find a way to rough it up a bit as well. I am hoping Incipio makes a nice soft touch case for the phone soon, as I will snatch that up right away.
I am going to give them all some time in the drivers seat though, because I am not sure what will work out best. Will I drop the phone less because of the Bear Motion grip, meaning that it would be better even though the corners are exposed? Only time will tell, but the floors in my house are tile and I hope to keep my glass in a non-cracked condition.
UPDATE: More pictures, cases and video
I talked a lot about grippiness of cases in that, and I didn't have the Soft Feel versions of the Ringke or Spigen. I got those and I also got an Orzly case as well.
I put all the cases on a fairly slick book and raised the book until they fell so you could get an idea of each case's mu. You can tell how grippy the cases are by watching how fast they slide and at what angle they start sliding.
The Soft feel versions of the Ringke and Spigen are way better to hold than the other variations for me. As you can tell from the video they are vast improvements on their slick counterparts for grip.
The Orzly was pretty comparable to those cases. It feels a little grippier in hand, and has reasonable corner protection for me. I also like that it comes in colors with grip instead of just black, which I am not too fond of. It is the only case that just has a cutout with no protection around the front of the buttons. I also kind of like that as nothing gets in the way of button pressing for volume and power.
As you see from the video, the Bear Motion is by far the grippiest, but it seems fatter than most and offers the worst corner protection
Great to see all these other cases. I got the Bear Motion in black due to my previous experiences with them, and I love mine. I wasn't so worried about drop protection as I was grip. If the phone weren't so dang slippery I wouldn't have a case at all . The Bear Motion cured that for me of course, and I like how it fits tight and smooth with no wiggle or creaking. Perfect for my needs
Great post. I'm patiently waiting delivery of my Bear Motion and SF Black Ringke slim cases.
I see you got the gun metal ringke slim. It is as slippery as the phone itself indeed. So is the white one. I just got the black SF one and it is totally different. Grippy, although I don't know how it compares in grippyness to a bear motion. The SF black ringke slim is exactly like the Nexus 5 black back. Thanks for sharing your pics!

I have the SF Black ordered, it will be here Friday. I want that grip.
Is it still easy to press the buttons with the Bear Motion on? I had one for my MotoX and I couldn't stand how difficult it was to press the buttons given the lip.
You should try Orzly® - Exec-Armour. I order a white Exec it is grippy but I think the corner protection and could be better so that is where Ringke SF could come in. Here is the link for the Orly http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P12CNFW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have a TUDIA I really like it. The buttons are easy to distinguish for me because of the gape between the power and volume rockers. I bought a clear one and since I also have some Cruzerlite cases I still say it's nice to have another solid TPU case. The addition of the button covers built into the case is why I bought this case and its better than I expected.
I'm going to buy s black one once its available with amazon prime.

The "black" Ringke in OP is actually gunmetal, it is actually the Amazon link listed in the OP. The SF Black is the same case, but black with SF (Soft Feel perhaps?), it is also in the Amazon link but as another color. The other colors don't have the soft touch, and are apparently more slippery due to this. I only have the SF Black, so I can't comment on the others.

I think it is easier than the MotoX. I have used a 2013 X with a bear motion case and I found it easier than that, but it is still slightly thicker than the Spigen and Ringke so that might make it a little more difficult.

This is correct, I thought the Gunmetal looked like the black, and didn't realize there was a difference in texture when I ordered.
All the ringke slims EXCEPT for the "SF Black" model are the same material. Slick slippery plastic almost identical to the Nexus 6 native back. The SF Black is soft touch/softfeel exactly like the native back of the black Nexus 5. That being said, all the ringke slim models are very nice cases, the best IMO as far as minimal and solid build.
Spigen thin black is nice... Adds grip without girth. And for a general bump protector its good. But lacks good corner protection from drop, and if you screen down on a table, without a screen protector, the glass is flush with the case and screen damage can happen...

Ringke, hands down. But Bear Motion is not hard for me to press by any means.
For me quicksand style cases are the best. In not typically a phone dropper so coverage is less important than grip. The bear motion cases are great. Super slim and super grippy.

Most Ringke cases have exposed buttons, so they are easily accessible. I love their designs. You can check my gallery here if you want to see the power and volume rockers up close.

I have a Ringke Slim Crystal. I don't care for the clear look, so I'm going to return it. However, I like the Bear Motion cases--but am concerned for how easy/difficult it is to press the buttons, given my previous experience with the MotoX's version.

[Q] Minimal Case w/Flat Back?

Currently I have a Diztronic TPU case and it's great except for the fact the the back is curved like the phone.
I often use my phone with it sitting on my desk. It's a bit of an inconvenience with it rocking back and forth.
Are there any minimal (TPU) cases that have a flat back?
Thanks

The Ringke Fusion is not flat in the back, but it does have a groove in the middle so the phone doesn't rock back and forth. But actually using the phone while it's lay flat will cause it to wobble a bit.
Actually this is one of the biggest design flaws with the phone for me, and it's 'slipperiness'. How can you build such a thing? It lives and dies for me with the feeling I'll experience while holding it. The N5 was flawless in this way.
There's this thing, which would appear to even out the curve of the back so it can sit flat on a surface without rocking.

I've been using one of these for a month now and I love it. It's not "minimalist" but it's very well made, grippy (which is very important to me), gives great protection with an excellent fit and its FLAT on the back. Also very light weight for all of the protection it gives. Came with a holster which I threw away, it still fits in my back pocket just fine.

Looks like it shares a similar design to Spigen's Ultra Hybrid buttons. I don't recommend these buttons, very difficult to realize what button your hand is being placed on unless you count which can be annoying rather than having the buttons separated from each other.

Thanks! Ordered one of the Evocel cases, $11 shipped with tax via Prime.
10-minute use review:
It's properly flat, sits flat on desk and does not rock at all when I type.
Back texture is almost smooth but not "slimy" like my previous Spigen Ultra Hybrid. No matter how clean your hands are, your fingers naturally produce oil that interacts in a very gross way with perfectly smooth plastic cases...this one is textured enough to not be annoying. It's not as soft-touch/grippy as the back of a Spigen NEO Hybrid though
Has reasonable friction to prevent it from sliding off a desk. The stock N6 or N6 in Ultra Hybrid case were terrible in this regard. It's a plastic back though, not a soft-touch material, so it will slide.
The back is very thick, material thickness is much thicker than Spigen Ultra Hybrid. It *substantially* increases the size of the phone, both due to its thickness and the obvious geometry change needed to make the back flat. The normal curved shape of the N6 is very helpful for making it pocketable, I'll have to see over time whether the flat back is worth the increased bulk.
Phone feels very secure in the case, was difficult to remove.

This looks like a winner for me. Besides not being able to tell what button you're hitting, it brings me back to the Spigen Neo Hybrid which I really liked. The one they made for the N6 looks really nice too with the metallic buttons, but they left the back curved. I will give this a try for sure.
Thanks!
For those having issues with the buttons on the Evocel case - I solved that problem by putting a puffy eyeball sticker on the power button.
I'm using Nexus 6 Case, CellJoy [X-Hatch Armor] Motorola Nexus 6 Ultra Fit (P... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SXF5O1E/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_LFUlvb15H7F9Q without the belt clip.
Edit: it is rather minimal with the added us that it has the kick stand.
I just bought this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/33141407088...49&var=540591992061&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
It appears to have raised edges on the back that would keep it from rocking. I haven't even gotten my N6 yet, but I ordered the phone, screen protector, and case all at once. I ordered a "new other" Nexus 6 from ebay for $489. Seemed like a really good deal. No box or charger though.

Currently I have a Diztronic TPU case and it's great except for the fact the the back is curved like the phone.
I often use my phone with it sitting on my desk. It's a bit of an inconvenience with it rocking back and forth.
Are there any minimal (TPU) cases that have a flat back?
Thanks

[Q] Case

Has any users here used or have this case for their nexus 6? I already paid for it and it will be here tomorrow using amazing 1 day shipping. Curious what others think.
I have it. Bought it and the ringke fusion same time. I like both, and quality seems to be identical. That being said I find I use the ringke more as it has the accent depression on the back that feels good in hand, as well as the protruding buttons are easier to distinguish.
The upside if the spigen however, is that it seems to have less of a rainbow effect on the back at certain angles.
I have this case, I love it because of the clear back, really shows off the beauty of the Nexus 6. However, as mentioned by the other poster, this case makes it very hard to distinguish the power and volume buttons. The buttons on my case also weren't very tactile, I always find myself hitting the wrong one. But, I still thoroughly enjoy this case, it protects the Nexus 6 very well.

Thanks. I am putting a dbrand skin on it...blue one actually. So excited about this. Thanks I always used Spigen for all my devices. Just figured I ask. Is this a slip on type one or is it clip like the metal ones? I didnt really find anything about how it gets put on.
I just push the bottom of the phone in and snap it down in. The border is tpu, so it has some flex while offering some drop protection.
I use a black carbon fiber slickwrap on my n6, and it really does emphasize the beauty of this beast.

I checked via web for a review of this (video) is there one?
I know there is one comparing the 2 cases I have, I ordered both right after watching it. I'm at work right now so I can't really track down the link.

thats ok i already bought it. The last thing I am wonder is do u have a screen protector on it with this case or the glass screen protectors? will they work with this case?
The glass do yes, but I got rid of mine because I hate the halo. I'm using the plastic one that came with my ringke.
Nice case ..

I'm sticking with the Spigen Tough Armor, same one I have on my 3A right now. Along with a 3 pack of Shieldbrainz screen protectors (I went through 3 of those for the 3A in the time I had it, got the 3a just after it dropped).
Edit: Just received the Spigen and compared the case to the 3A case I have. It's just a tad bit shorter in length and just a little thicker but everything else seems right on. The cutouts on the end are even about the same so this gives me some idea of the size difference (seems negligible).

So I have been on a bit of a shopping spree (oops). Thankfully Amazon US has free returns on cases. I currently have the:
DiMiK case: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084S3ZY9G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_jbZmFbDRNDBWQ
Caseology Vault: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083Q4SY5G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_5aZmFb8PPY0N6
Spigen Liquid Crystal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083N54J5Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_OaZmFbVDVR3P1
And tomorrow I get the Cyrill Brick Case: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083QQTQ3V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_5.YmFb2PCB9HQ
Quick notes and observations.
1) All of the cases are the exact same size and thickness.
2) The DiMiK case is as cheap as you would expect. No real corner protection or grip and the form is not perfect.
3) The vault is great quality but notably heavier than the other cases. Outside of the extra weight, my main concern is grip from this case. The texture adds no real grip to the phone. Form is perfect.
4) Liquid crystal also has almost perfect build quality with one small imperfection on the inside of a corner. Very light weight with great protection. The grip on this case is fantastic (important to me). Unfortunately I think it will get noticeably scuffed and will eventually turn yellow.
Q: Are caseology and spigen made by the same company? The form, quality and packaging are almost identical. The difference is the color, weight and grip.
I wish I had a solid color liquid crystal case. That is why I am trying the brick case. No perfect solution yet.
Thought I would share with everyone.

I believe so. If you go to the Spigen website, at the top there are links to Caseology and Cyrill, as well as the Spigen Gearlock collection, and all the websites are styled and formatted identically.
That and: https://trademarks.justia.com/owners/spigen-inc-2959513/
I grabbed the pastel black dbrand skin for mine. Phone's plastic and should survive a drop so no case for me.

I just order the Spigen Rugged Armor this morning. https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Rugged-Armor-Designed-Google/dp/B083N5DD7K/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=spigen+pixel+4a&qid=1597678531&s=electronics&sr=1-1
I have been happy with my nearly Spigen case for my OnePlus3T. I wish there was a bright red or blue besides just black...but I can live with black. I would have considered the Tough Armor If I had found that in my amazon searches. I like how the Tough Armor gets wider around the camera bump to protect it.

I don't know how that case retails for 39.99 on Spigen's website, and only 14.99 on Amazon, but I ordered one just in case it's a momentary mis-pricing.
Spigen Tough Armor is the way to go. I've dropped my pixel 4a twice on concrete with no issues. I like the way it feels and it performs. Just wish it came in other colors.
There are not a lot of quality choices out there for the pixel 4a., but luckily this one is top drawer.

Got a Caseology Parallax for the wife. She wanted something to add some color to the black phone. Case fits really well and the case looks really nice (if you're into their colors), but it's kind of a bit slippery. I have a feeling it won't be her forever case, but it's a fine case and will probably be the one she uses until we discover her forever case. Buttons are plenty clicky and the phone is plenty protected without being insanely bulky (it's not insanely thin either - it's in the middle of the spectrum but towards the bukly end). She usually goes with a Speck Presidio Grip case, but wanted to try something new. If you don't need a grippy or minimal case, I'd recommend it.
It fits perfectly with an OMOTION or Orzero TGSP.
Got this from Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086X647CC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
2 cases for $8
Since I got my phones today and put these on- the fit well, corners are protected, covers the camera. Does everything a case should do
Did I mention it's $8 for 2 cases?
My biggest "look-for" is a case that will allow a phone ring holder to adhere to it securely. That rules out the Caseology Parallax unfortunately for me..
I got a spingen; Black thin; https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Thin-Designed-Google-Pixel/dp/B083N3YT4Z#ace-g7448806443
I got the same one as above^ and two more from the Spigen brand. I love the quality feel on them. Definitely recommend Spigen.
I purchased the Caseology Vault case. Fits fine. The lip around the edge of the screen sometimes makes the gestures a little more difficult but I think I've adapted now.

I would love to get the Tough Armor but that plastic stand seems iffy to me. I've seen reviews of the case and it looks a little flimsy and like it might break. If the back of the case was completely solid without it, it would be my go to no questions asked. For now I picked up a Caseology Parallax which is set to arrive on Monday (my phone was just delivered today) to see if I like it or if I want to switch over to the Spigen Rugged Armor.
