Redmi Note 4 SD stops charging sometimes at 72-73%, is it a calibration problem? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Hello,
So it's been two days I got my RN4 from FlipKart. It's loaded win MIUI 8 ver 8.2.5.0.
I plug in the charger, the notification led turns green at 73% and the battery indicator sticks there. Battery temp goes about 46° :fingers-crossed:: .
Have to unplug an re-plug again to start charging, then no issues with reaching 100%.
Many people are complaining that their phone stops charging at a certain percentage "after a update".
My question is - is it really a "after a update" calibration problem? Will it be solved with MIUI next updates? Or by installing custom ROM? Meanwhile, I'm still covered with FlipKart 10 days return policy, but still won't do it until it is confirmed that it is hardware problem, as their return process is very tedious.
Thanks!

Yes I faced the issue of charging stuck at 72% but only a couple of times not always.
In period of 20 days it happened 2-3 times then I switched to custom ROM and never faced the issue again.
I don't think it is a hardware problem.
Input from other users also may help you to decide further action.

hey, did u manage to work this out? my device is charging extremely slowly and before it also got stuck on 67 percent.

Will update you soon, just have done a factory reset and will again charge when battery goes about 20-30% level.
I will try to put it backside up so as to generate lesser heat. Maybe that will help.
For faster charging don't use it while charging, it easily goes 2000 mA in idle state. [Checked with AccuBattery]

I think I fixed mine. I updated to the dev rom (there is a trick to doing it without unlocking the bootloader) and am currently on the Nougat version. Now it charges at a good rate and I get a full charge in under 3 hours.
The backside up thing works, the kernel cuts amperage based on the temp of the battery and this phone is very finnicky to heat. Also if you want to drain the battery faster, try the battery waster app on Play Store. It starts all the phone sensors and can even leave the flash on if you want, letting u drain it in 6-8 hours.

[Q] Battery is burning FAST !

First of all it wouldnt charge past 99%, And then, after one hour of standby it went down to 88%!!
Cm7 official stable release.
Me too no pass 99% :S
Try to download a "battery caliberation" app and do that, also burn it to 0% and charge to 100% while the phone is off..i heard that this might help.
Now i will flash Nottachtrix and do what i wrote Good luck man !

The charging thing is something that is (seemingly) well known throughout the community. I have tried to do the calibration, but it doesn't seem to work that well (at least for me). There is a thread around here somewhere for fixing the issue. I just have never tried it due to work reasons.
The charging past 99% is a known issue with most of the ROMs. There is a thread in here that takes you step by step to get it to display 100%. Basically....
Charge the phone long enough to where you know it should be at 100% even though it is still displaying 99%.
Power the phone off while it is still connected to the charger and then pull the battery.
With the battery pulled, power the phone back on until you see the battery indicator with the "?".
Put the battery back in and reboot.
You will then see the display of 100% with the phone still connected to the charger. The only downside is that as soon as you disconnect the charger, it will drop back to 99%. I have done this multiple times.
You can try the latest nightly: update-cm-7-20120508-NIGHTLY-olympus-signed.zip
I read good things about it.
First of all, use Wipe Battery Stats function at recovery.
1 - Discharge all your smartphone battery;
2 - Connect it to the wall charger and don't turn it on;
3 - Wait till it shows you 100%;
4 - Remove the battery, wait 10 seconds, put it again and keep it turned off;
5 - Wait 30 minutes, keep it connected to the wall charger and press power button till it turns on;
6 - Wait 30 minutes, keep it connected to the wall charger and use Battery Calibration App to calibrate it;
It doesn't make any sense, but sometimes, after step 5, i prefer connect it to usb port in a laptop or computer and wait one hour. It always worked with me.
It might solve your problem .
Wiping battery stats does nothing. it just takes a few charge cycles. If it's a new rom and it's draining fast it's also cause you are probably playing with it a lot

It could be a bluesleep problem... Install CPU Spy App and look if it goes into deep sleep mode. If not, there is a fix for it.
Aside from the OP's issue with the battery draining quickly, why does it matter if it doesn't show 100%?
Nothing can ever 'really' be 100% charged because as soon as you take it off mains it is instantly on the battery at lets say 99.9999%...
As long as the battery doesn't drain quickly I couldn't care less if its showing 99 or 100%.
The problem was that it was draining very quickly to smt like 50% and then it would hold longer...I just wiped everything, restored a neutrino 2.7 nandroid backup i had, flashed the jug fix v2 and now it shows 100%

Help with battery life

Hi guys I really need help:
Its been a few months that my s3 was weird. It would drain really fast and when it got to low charge, the screen would flicker and freeze on whatever it was on. Whenever I opened any power hungry apps at whatever percentage, the flickering would still happen. The only way to prevent this flickering was by having it on AC, on which there was never any flickering so the phone was constantly on 100.
However when not on charge, the battery would fall really quickly I'm talking 1% every few minutes. It would then eventually reach zero and die. But the weird thing is as soon as I plug it in to be charged, it would suddenly be 45% or somewhere around there? This confused me I thought maybe it was the battery so i bought a new genuine battery but no luck as the exact same thing happens.. I am out of ideas I don't know what to do. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying: UPDATE: Here's an example of what the battery life is like: I started a video recording and it went down 6% in 5 mins then 12% in 10 mins then 18% in 15 mins so it goes down exactly 6% every 5 mins for a video recording. I am not sure if this is hardware or software.

Do you use stock rom? Or custom? If custom then check to see if you have right bootloader and kernel installed or any other custom rom related problems. Or you could just download a stock rom and flash it then check to see if your problem persists, if it does then it might be a hardware problem which we cannot help you with.
Replace battery, screen flickering with a battery above 1% means your device isn't displaying the real charge, I forgot where I read but if you let the device discharge to 0% and wait for sometime your battery will 'charge on its own', know that this charge wouldn't last as long as a normal charge;
I fully discharged an old battery then leave it overnight, I came back with 70% power, went browsing for awhile and the screen begins to flicker at 30% and it eventually froze and turned itself off.
Tl;dr buy a new battery

Yes thats exactly what i thought its not showing the correct percentage. I bought a new battery but problem still persists so I was thinking that my phone isnt displaying the correct percentage for some reason it isnt a problem with consumption instead it doesnt display the correct power. SO new battery didnt fix it. Thanks for your reply.

No need to check all that if you use stock rom and didnt flash any custom rom, use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.batteryapps.batterycalibration and follow all instructions and check to see if your problem is fixed.

No it didn't fix. I either need software that will display the correct battery percentage or just fix this problem or check my phone if it has problems or the hardware?

Never charge a phone with a laptop, it uses a process called trickle charging which can cause damage to your battery!

Did you use a magnetic charger before?
i just recently had same issue as you are having yesterday my phone stopped charging at 71% and i noticed i didnt have this issue on .575 build and then i downgraded to .575 from .291. In my case it solved the problem but i also changed my charging cable.If you are on .291 downgrade and check if it solves the issue
I got this problem couple days ago too

Okey guys, new thread update:
I have got new Xperia Z2, previous had some hardware touch screen problems.. and what? Same problem on new device. This problem occurs while upgrading android from 4.4 to 6.0.1 by installing updates one by one without any pause/reboot. Firstly it was around 80% max, last time 68%.. now I have solution. (Because of post above this one, I have uninstalled Smart Connect for tests). I have discharged battery to 0% and plugged in wall charger. It started to on/off/on/off after some time and I turned on screen to see % of charging.. it was 68%. I though I can keep screen up for sometime and check if it will pass 68% (because with turned on screen it drains enegry so it can't charge to "max").. and this passed... I dont know why its working, but it is. Started to blink again at 73%, 80%, 86%, 90% for sometime and now its 95%.... Just need to have turned on screen so it can't charge to its "max" After it reach 1% above limit, then turn off screen. Its definitely software bug. I still dont know how it will behave after discharging again.. Will post update. (btw. its cold like ice. xD)

I tried Motorola X Play charger and Blackberry one and they works without any problem but with the original charger and the M5 one got the on/off problem.
I've contacted Sony and send them a logcat and they said that I should send it them but I didn't, because I don't have second phone
I am having this problem recently too. My battery often charge at a very low current ( 10mA ~ 700mA ) and today it even discharge itself when plugged in!! I tried both USB charger and magnetic charging cable but still it turns out the same. I have criticized this problem on SuperSU v2.78 SR1, Google Play Service v9.8.75 and restoring them to the previous versions but still nothing changed. What I did later is I wiped all partitions ( except external_sd ) and installed AOSPA ( previously I was on eXistenZ v5.6.5 ) and after it boots it finally return a 1A current to me. However, this only happens occasionally which it will possibly corrupted like a couple of days ago. Still need to figure out what the he** is wrong with this thing. Frankly speaking, I nearly wanted to rush out to the 24/7 service centre in Hong Kong at 2am lol.

lol this happened to me too about 3 days ago.
I used the phone as always do and wanted to charge it normally with a usb cable but then i got this
CHARGING
on off on off on off
the off took 1-5 seconds and the charging led, tone and animation only appeared for a second and then went off.
it wasnt the charger, nor the cable. it was the micro usb port, no idea why because I didn`t drop it etc
a micro usb port replacement part costs only 15 bucks but unfortunately I don`t have the equipment and knowledge for repairing electrinical parts
so I had to fu**ing replace the whole motherboard which is very expensive even if you do it yourself!!! now it works ut I will never repair my z2 again. I bought it for 400$ and since buying it I spent 300$ on repairing it. if you wouldn`t have done that myself I would had spent 700$ usd for repairing it at our local phone shop.
Just cleared Smart connect app data and charged it with the default charger (14% to 100%) it charged without any problem

Battery Problem 97% fully charged!

Hi to all Vince users,
my fully charged of my phone is 97% only! why??? I would unplug my charger and charge again to reach 100%.
Any idea? pls help.
thanks a lot!
I think you should go to the warranty center to fix this, I just repair and get a new battery
Have you installed any custom Rom?, this question is because sometimes when installing custom Roms this situation is common to happen. In some cases flashing a STOCK ROM with MIFLASH tool solves that issue.
Have you idle battery drain too?
It was after flashing custom roms?
This thread can help:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5/help/wakelocks-aosp-roms-t3802422
i solve it with unplug then plug again cable battery connector
Yes bro. Im using AEX and Dotos before and now Im using MIUI 10.
Now Im Calibrating my Battery
Im doing that recently. 97percent charged
my phone is not faster to drain. my only problem is not reaching to 100 percent. it stops in 97. I think I need a battery calibration.. what do you think Guys?
As you used custom roms maybe the problem is the same although without battery drain.
Disconnect and reconnect battery will solve it but you have to take off back cover
I think bug oin miui 10.
It's not a bug in miui 10. I'm using it and it didn't happen for me since I opened back cover and unplug battery connector. I also did test point flash but others in the forum said it works with only physically disconnect battery without test point (back case opening required anyway)
Had this proplem too, not charge to 100% (in any rom, miui 10 included) but my problem was worst, the phone always shuts down at 20%. Did disconnect the battery 2 days ago, and the problem is solved now.

mmoto z battery draining drastically

My moto Z is having a Screen on time of 1 hr 40 mins. max 2 hrs with 20 mins of browsing , 40 mins YouTube streaming 30 mins of pubg . it drains from 100-80% in like 10-15 mins. at times when it reaches 28% it'll shut down and indicate there's no battery left but when i plug in the charger it starts charging from 28%. I've formatted the phone , did the battery calibration and it works fine for 2 days with a terrible SOT, but after 2 days the same thing happens . worst is if i try opening snapchat below 45% the phone will turn off. what should i do?
Hi, i've got the same here. I dunno what to do too :/
Unfortunately I have the same issue. And, spoiler alert, it got worse every day. Now I can hardly open my device before it drains completely (I think the real capacity has been reduced to less than 10% of the original). If I unplug the charger battery percentage drops like it's a countdown.
My quick fix was to buy a Z2 Force. And made me feel like it's battery is lasting for ages. But I'm still interested in fixing my beloved Moto Z.
Is it possible that it's a software problem? The latest security update maybe? It's a bit strange that three of us got the same problem at the same time.

I believe it to be related to the most recent security update. My phone battery (and moto mod Turbo Power) were working fine until that update. Now phone drains quickly at start... shuts off at random intervals (with or without Turbo Power).
Many users are reporting this on social media and Moto Forums... they seem to be recommending sending device in for repair (at user cost).
Hopefully, they fix the software.
My advice is put your Moto in the garbage can and buy a phone from a manufacturer with real support
I did a factory reset without downloading extra apps. And for now it's holding a charge better. I suspect one of the downloaded apps from before the Oreo update wasn't behaving. I'm going to add an app every week to see if it effects the battery. One other thing I found was after reaching 100% while charging doesn't really do it. I now restart when it reaches 100% and continue charging for at least a hour.
I am having the exact same issue.
I think it started since the Last update.
Is there a way to go back to nougat or an earlier release?

I had a similar issue. To fix it I disabled the battery saver mode. Even though it went into red territory 1-3% charge it kept going for another half hour playing videos with screen on. Afterwards battery life was much better.
