I am a long time frustrated Samsung on Verizon user; that has been living with out root, and I am considering an G6 and would like to know if I will be able to root the phone on the Verizon network.
I saw the thread about the OEM bootloader, and I suspect that you would need to have that in order to root.
Could someone confirm, can the G6 be rooted?
If Verizon prevents this, I will switch to another phone vendor.

It can't be rooted atm and may not have root at all since verizon usually locks their bootloaders.
People are hunting for exploits, nothing reported in public yet.

Also I have heard of achieving an adb set up through a pc and doing what you would do with root just through your pc and save it to your phone. I don't know much about either and am currently researching it. Any info would be nice.
So is there some way to use the ADB bridge to make changes to items that would normally only be accessible via root?

The one thing I've installed is BK Package Disabler, which lets you disable bloatware. You have to wipe out all accounts on your g6, then install BK, then re-delete your Google account, then run an adb command to allow BK Device Admin.
Best I can tell it is honestly disabling a lot of the bundled junk. It has a pretty clean user interface, touch any item and it'll bring up an option to Google it.
Please tell me I'm wrong... no root for the VZW G6??? My VZW S7 has root. Do all of the exploits require an unlocked bootloader (yes, VZW will never let that happen)?
I believe the US unlocked version US997 works on Verizon and is bootloader unlocked correct? If OP is concerned about rooting, just buy the unlocked version from lg instead of buying from Verizon.

I have the unhappy feeling that sooner or later rooting, at least for phones usable in the US (CDMA), is going to be almost completely locked out. Bastards!

I bought a LGL43AL tracphone. I tried to root it with several root apps and PC programs. I was finally able to root it with Kingo Root via PC. However, When I tried to run SuperSU I get a message "There is no SU binary installed and Super SU cannot install it. This is a problem!". Also, when I reboot my phone, it becomes unrooted. After trying many things, I have come to the conclusion that my bootloader is locked. On this phone, recovery is merely to reset to factory mode. There are no other options. I did find a tutorial on how to unlock European lg tracfones by getting a code. I am in the US and was leary to try it. Which led me here to get some advice. Any help or suggestions would be great.

I haven't tried again yet. Been too busy at work. I might get a chance to try if it rains today because I won't have to go to work. I'll get back to you when I do though.
Fail. I can get my phone to root. But, when I try to install the su binary by any method, I lose my root. ?

I tried also with kingo and kingroot and lost root also. Bummer. Not a big deal but root is always welcomed. Main thing i use root for is to use the adaway app and delete that god aweful tracfone boot and shutdown logo, which requires root. Maybe someone else will figure it out and share with us.
I disabled most of the google apps as they are useless to me. Very snappy for what it is. I got it on a good deal at walmart. They had it priced wrong at $19.98 and had to sell it to me because of their goof up. Was suppose to be like $79.99.
Nice price for your phone. I really just like to get rid of the bloat and to use lucky patcher. Maybe someday on this phone. ?

I got the LG L44VL version for tracfone. Looks like there is no root for this device. Like anything newer than 2014 and low end is a no go.

NEW INFORMATION FOUND! I GOT SIGNIFICANT ROOT ACCESS WITH DIRTYSANTA!!!
SO i used the DirtySanta fearing for my life I wouldn't ruin my device, well the v10 failed it. rebooted and it didn't do anything but reboot back into the normal bootloader and stuff. But what i found is that he go the dirty cow to just work under root, so maybe from there we could do something, anybody have any ideas?

1. You cannot repackage a TOT file, well you can but, because it is digitally signed so that the locked boot loader will recognize it and allow it access to image the system. Repacking a rooted version on MM or Nougat will brick the phone if it is not digitally signed by LG.
2. You can pull a copy of the boot image with dirty cow but you can do that from the TOT or KDZ. You cannot put a new one in with dirty cow with out bricking the phone.
3. Most likely not. SELINUX policies combined with updates and fixes have removed most of the previous exploits.
4. Nothing personal but if you are asking us where the boot image resides... that does not inspire anyone here to give you a hand. You need to be in the android devs forum asking these questions.

How did Tungkick manage to repackage it then? The dirty cow exploit can exchange recovery though on an unlocked bootloader so shouldn't I be able to replace the boot image if done correctly wouldn't it work? I could possibly unpack everything and modify it all and test it but the issue comes back to repacking and flashing?
Ask him, but if you attempt to do this on a locked and encrypted boot loader then you will brick the phone. I mean think about it, if it was really just that simple every phone would be rooted and rom'd. Most phones running 6 or above have had the security vastly increased to make the phone secure so they can be used by government employees. Hence the introduction to SELINUX polices into the kernel which is why getting root is so unbelievably difficult. The locked boot loader resets everything at boot so getting root and maintaining is so hard combined with SELINUX does not allow standard root to perm. write anything to the system partition and then good old hboot kills anything you did mange to write on reboot... you can start to see how difficult this really is.
Tungkick did this on 5.1 Lollipop not 6.0 Marshmallow. The above mentioned difficulties with increased SELunix security plus 6.0 and up requires systemless root.
Still would love to know why no dev will go near this Phone. Does XDA have some deal with LG to not hack their phones? Very fishy why every dev avoids this device like it has the plague.

LG are just not popular devices for hacking due to they make if extremely difficult. LG is a Corp. friendly company it is why Verizon loves them where companies like HTC are a bit more user sympathetic.

Funny you say that! Tungick said to me, and i quote "[email protected]#$g you" and blocked me from Facebook. He also told me that he wouldn't tell me because it's a secret. He didn't speak very great English, that's why there is an ing at the end of the F-bomb. I asked Jcase through XDA and he said he wouldn't and so i put it better explanation of help through an email and he said I was harassing him... In which case before hand he said he doesn't develop for LG because he says basically we are A-holes sadly and that we don't live up to our donation pledges.
That's what I'm saying though. It's like no dev will go anywhere near an LG device, at least the newer ones anyway.
They can't be much harder to crack than Samsung and those are getting cracked.
The person who rooted 5.1 on V10 basically tells you to F off. Yeah there is nothing odd about that.

Wish I could help. All I know here is you need systemless root on 6.0+. This has nothing to do with the v10 in particular. Systemless root should work on all devices 6.0+. It has already been achieved on the Galaxy s7 and it has locked bootloader. I don't see any reason why this can't work on the v10.

Anybody can help! Do some research and send it and whatever you would like to do. Try different things, Try to modify bits of code and see what you can do! Always gotta start somewhere!
Modify code? You just went way above my head. I know about root, certainly don't know how to achieve it. That's why I count on the folks at XDA. I only have one v10, can't afford to brick it. Plus I already have root on 5.1.1 and I heard that 6.0 causes this phone to have problems.
Many, many v10's were offered up in order to attain root. Not one was taken by any dev. Maybe you can still get your hands on one of those.
You need to find someone that knows about systemless root. Without that you aren't getting anywhere.

The thing with that is the fact that even if I know how systemless root works, I still have no way to install it, so first I need to find a way to get in the system.
Think I might have a way though
From what I understand systemless root will modify the boot image to attain root. Super SU will decide how to flash based on firmware version. Will automatically root normal with Lollipop and down, will automatically modify boot image on Marshmallow and up. How you will be able to modify the boot image on a VS990 without bricking it I don't know.
In order to do system less root we need a unlocked bootloader... It says that everywhere I'm reading

Question for those of you with experience on the V10. I just upgraded to the V20 (love it btw). My V10 is probably the first phone I never rooted, or loaded a ROM on. I've had many devices with custom roms in the past, however they were always carried branded (not unlocked) phones. Here is my question:
I'm giving my V10 to a friend in Europe in a few weeks. Already confirmed that it supports all the necessary bands and channels, plus I've used it over there in the past without issue. Being that it's a VS990, is there an official "LG" factory ROM that I can load so that all the verizon branded crap is gone, apps etc, and so that it works like what most Europeans would expect? Just a plain "unlocked" V10 that gets OTA updates? Or is it not possible, or worth the effort?

Can't flash roms to VS990. Locked bootloader does not allow TWRP to be installed, which you need to flash roms.

There is no such thing endorsed by LG. How important is it to remove the Verizon crud and how much risk are you willing to deal with? Are you adverse to voiding your warranty? Are you willing to pay a repair fee for "accidentally" flashing the wrong KDZ file?
According to multiple reports the KDZ files from the various V10s are pretty compatible with each other. Given this you could download a H901 (T-Mobile) KDZ file and install that and it should be free of bloat, there is even speculation this could be used to unlock the bootloader.
Aside from bricking your device, my biggest worry is the cell modem may have slightly different hardware and the firmware for the H901 might not drive it correctly, though that may merely mean it cannot connect to CDMA networks. Much of the cell modem configuration is left untouched by KDZ files, but there is always a first time for an unpleasant surprise.
So, how comfortable are you with risk? I'm cautiously optimistic this method will work, but this is risky! If you do try this, could you please report back whether it succeeded or not? (more reports good)

I just know that with this being a Verizon device running in EU, any OTA updates from Verizon (I assume) would never get installed. I was really just looking for a way to keep OTA updates flowing, and as a plus, remove the Verizon bloatware.

I won't swear to it, but I was under the impression the updates come from LG, at which point it should still nominally update if brought to the EU. Failing that, LG Bridge should be able to get updates.

I think that you should try Kingoroot App or iRoot (if you have a PC of course) to root your LG. I have rooted my own LG L3ii using iRoot, but I do not own the LG Ls755.

I'm finding that the LG x Power is bullet proof. I have tried every kind of way to root it that I can find on the black mart to the internet and youtube. Nothing seems to want to work. The good news is the phone doesn't brick after a failed attempt. That is my experience only. It may freeze up but still can be turned off and back on again.
So I ask... Is there any working things out there?

Rooting work with FRP lock enabled?
Hi, I am trying to root my Lg X Power as well. However in preparation of this, I factory reset it, completely forgetting about the FRP.
So long story short, I need some sort of bypass for the FRP lock, or a way to root that doesn't care about the FRP being activated.

3) research, research, research
4) buy different phone with working root
In all seriousness, if you can take the phone back do so. LG phones do not root. If unable to return it, hopefully you at least got a good deal. Next time do the homework and buy something with a known root. The days of buying a phone and just rooting it with an all-in-one kit are over.

The reason it can't be rooted is because manufacturers and software developers are securing THEIR investment. By locking down devices it increases security measures against malicious attacks from outside sources and software and decreases the risk of consumers reporting vulnerabilities and attacks on their hardware and software due to end-user modification.
While we own the individual hardware with the software installed, we do not own the RIGHTS or LICENSE to the software and hardware. Therefore we cannot claim to be able to do whatever we want with the device just because it's in our pockets.
You want root? Get any Samsung, HTC, Pixel or older LG device. While the same rule above applies, people try harder on them because they are the most popular devices among users and the ecosystem between them is very similar and easily exploitable.
Aside from all that, root and rom developers don't really give many ****s about low-end, stupid cheap hardware anymore like they used to. *Insert related Metallica lyric here*

what? LG phones can get ROOT, its just difficult to do so, and some models can't get it, but not all of them... just unlock bootloader, install the right recovery and then flash super su, of course every phone is different and the procedures may be different

Yeah? Those some models have included the last three that I've purchased. Most of the time a root exists for some European model but not the US model so when I try to do my diligence and research it comes up as having a root method only for me to discover that the method does not actually work.
Your word games to the contrary I think the posts in this thread make it clear that LG phones do not have root. Much easier to write off LG than to keep wasting money on phones that don't actually root. Effectively LG phones do not root.

Hi,
I have the same phone. Lg-sp320 x-charge. On boost/sprint. I have a computer and i can use adb to push files and run a script. I don't know if i need to preform a permanent oem unlock for the bootloader. And im sure i can probably find, well i hope i could find an original firmware. Any help would be a godsend. Thanks.

Root this one. Root the last several LG phones released. LG phones *used* to root. They do not any more.

I've rooted several LG phones
Just wondering if this device has been rooted yet? I'd like to install the latest google dialer?
very unlikely you will ever see root, unless someone finds an exploit.
definitely not looking good currently. Honestly the only thing I want root for is so that I can remove carrier bloat and get my ad blocker. Everything else on the phone is fine (I can even deal with LG's skin if I had to)

AFAIK you do not need root for either of those things. I have no tried it myself, but you should be able to remove bloat by adb.
As for ad blocking maybe try this?

I tried one of the ad removal tool that uses adb, the only package that comes up is the LG setup package. Nothing else. I'll try it manually maybe. I'll have to search as I'm not sure how to do that.
I'll look into that ad blocker.

This screenshot is the short version on how to remove apps via ADB. I have not tried and remember, if you remove something you should not, you might screw up your phone.

OK, so the DNS one is what I tried before, its pretty **** compared to actual adaway or adblocker.
And you cannot do anything with ADB as you cannot boot to fastboot or bootloader. So that wont work eithe.r

My guess is that you use ADB on your pc with developer options activated on the phone. I have not tried it because I am happy with the phone the way it is. Only wish for timely software updates.

Yeah, you can't do anything with ADB shell without access to the bootloader/fastboot.

Is that specifically for the H931? I mean, doesn't it it allow USB Debugging in Developer Options?
I trimmed a ton of bloat from my T-Mobile H932 using ADB uninstall, and I've never loaded fastboot on this phone. (Some day I will, assuming the H932 gets root, but today is not that day.)

I'm not sure. I have USB debugging enabled. I literally cannot get ADB to recognize the device.

Try toggling UDB Debugging on the phone and give permission (again) for your computer to access it.

I am on Windows 10 and using LGMobileDriver_WHQL_Ver_4.2.0. It can be downloaded from the following LG web site:

If you are using a different driver, I suggest uninstalling it first and thoroughly removing remnants of it it by repeatedly deleting the device in Device Manager and choose "Delete driver software", then "Scan for Hardware", until it no longer gives you the option to "Delete driver software". Now unplug the phone and install the driver anew.

I just got done doing this and it worked. I was just going to come back here and reply. I couldnt get the device to recognize in ADB at all. Ended up having to uninstall google's universal USB drivers, uninstall LG's drivers and then reinstall LG's drivers and now it comes up as a recognized device! Lets get this party started

Exploit found by @TxanMoe on LG Oreo. All LG V30/V30+/V30S can be bootloader unlocked and rooted -- EXCEPT for the T-mobile H932.

All AT&T H931 have root if you want it. See the WTF bootloader unlock and root thread.
Many people on here have rooted their AT&T H931 V30. And run them on AT&T as converted US998.
1) And please don't start with the no LTE thing you tried to say in other threads. All carrier unlocked North America V30 get LTE on AT&T -- especially US998. I've proven it over and over. Your particular AT&T store (and you didn't seem to get a second opinion?) seemed obsessed by your IMEI. (Other stores couldn't care less.)
AT&T allows BYOD from anywhere. You do NOT have to have an AT&T phone to be on AT&T. We've NEVER NEVER NEVER owned an AT&T branded phone, and my wife and I have been on AT&T since 2012.
Well, you now HAVE an official AT&T IMEI. So, convert it to US998, unlock the bootloader and ROOT it. You already have a working AT&T SIM card and AT&T IMEI (which doesn't really matter, but for some reason it matters to you).
2) Point is, you NOW have an AT&T phone and AT&T IMEI and AT&T SIM card (which you THINK you needed for AT&T, but you don't) -- so go unlock your bootloader and root your AT&T phone! I would suggest never going back to that particular AT&T store any more, and they are totally incompetent.
