Possible to connect to wifi AND cellular data at same time? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. I have a new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV s-edition 2017, who got app control through wifi spot from car. However, the wifi range is horrible, so I was wondering if you guys know of any phone that can be connected to both wifi net (without internet) and same time connected to internet through cellular data (3g or 4g)
What I want:
Have a phone in car, connected to the cars wifi net (no internet) and through perhaps an app like airdroid, connect to that phone, and that way connect to the car through internet.
I have tried this with honor 7, but this so called smart phone, either is on wifi with no internet, or cellular data with internet. It will not work on both nets at same time.
Is the any android phone this would work on, or is there any workaround/hack to make this work. Surely, this has to be possible?
-Thanx, Ray

If your android running on marshmallow then there is a option in developer setting of cellular data always active. Turn that feature on and connect to mobile data and wifi simultaneously.

Ashwinirg answered the question, but I want to throw in that there are services, like Speedify, which claim some sort of "channel bonding" that merge your WiFi with your data connection to enhance your speed. I have no idea if Speedify or similar services actually work, but if you're interesting in enabling wifi + cellular data together, you might want to look into those services also.

Sweet, Thanx man! This worked. I was able to connect my iPhone to the honor 7 to my car with your workaround. Time to buy me some android phone

Don't know if it is available in android nougat but it may be it available on marshmallow then it also available in Nougat..

Update:
So I bought myself a Lenovo p2, cause of its bigger battery, but it seems like it's not able to go between cellular data and wifi seamlessly like honor 7 did. It got the same options in developer mode, but it's not working.

Certain apps work if set right. It's kind of like downloading a torrent. Multiple connections work together to transfer the same file resulting in much faster speeds.

How to enable wifi N on Fascinate??

Hi guys! I have had the fascinate for quite awhile and never knew it was wifi "N" capable. My phone syncs fine with wifi G, but how do you connect to N? When I go to the wifi options it just sees my "G" network. Before you say have you check to see if the "N" network is being broad casted it already is. My xbox 360 and laptop are sync to the N wifi network. I would assume someone has figured this out because the specs shows wifi 802.11 b/g/n networks. Thanks dudes.
I only run an N network and mine connects no problem didn't do anything fancy. I am using wpa2 instead of wep don't believe that would make a difference since usually anything that will do wpa2 will do wep lol. double check make sure you N network is broad casting at 2.4Mhz range and not 5Mhz. since you say you have both I'm just assuming you have a dual band router and that might the problem. again just assuming there, but the fascinate will not pick up the 5Mhz range

Screenshot settings
Here is my current wifi settings. I tried disabling just the "G" network and leaving the "N" on. When I rescanned for wifi networks from my fascinate it didn't detect the "N" wifi. Is there a setting some where I'm missing on the phone or in my settings?

Nevermind I think I answered my own question with your previous answer lol. I have the g and n wifi named as "b33zuG" and that's how it shows on my phone. My screenshot for 2.4 shows as b/g/n. But if this is the case how do I know it's the true N network and not G since there both in the same 2.4 bracket?
if is in the 300mbs mode then it's broadcasting the N network because G only maxes out at 54mbs.
SC2.8 WP7 Revolution
also I have the high end 300-300 netgear router and if I enable the 5mhz n-network it won't let me run N on the 2.4 st the same time only lets me either do G 2.4 N 5 our just N on 2.4 so maybe when you have both on your only getting the G?
SC2.8 WP7 Revolution
Yea, I have a dual band router at home and the phone's wifi scan only detects the G.
I have different SSIDs set up and my N network isnt listed...
I'm gonna put it in manually when i get home tonight and see if it does anything but I'm interested if anyone has a solid answer for this
Our phones wont do N in the 5Ghz spectrum, only 2.4Ghz.
I've connected to N at work and it drains my battery faster than anything else that I do to my phone. I am curious if anyone else had experienced this. G is great for battery life

My wifi N network seems yo run fine on my fascinate. Although its mostly on a charger so I can't comment on battery life

Using 3G dongle on TF-201

Tablets powered with Android 4 supports a large number of 3G modems:
Huawei E156G
Huawei E173
Huawei E220
Huawei E1750
ZTE MF637U
These are modems that are tested. Other modems might work as well.
To setup your modem follow the instructions below:
Go to settings (press the status bar in the low right corner) and press <More...> and you will see the following:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Select <Mobile networks> and you will get this screen:
Select <Access Point Names>. when you come to the Access Point Page you click in the top right corner and select <New APN>.
This is the tricky part where you fill in the GSM operators settings. You can find settings for the most popular networks here. If your operator is not included you will have to ask the operator. The screenshot below shows the settings for Safaricom, Kenya:
When all settings are filled in press the arrow in the lower left corner and you are done.

Sorry 2all
Sorry to all this will not work. I take that manual from other site. It say Andtoid 4 3G Setup (original link in #1 post). I test it my self. No success.
Than i unpakced firmware to find out files like (gprs, pppd-ril.options, usb_wwan.ko, etc), some of them presents in firmware, others dissmised.
So the only way getting 3G via dongle, is custom firmware.

Well if u have to use 3g/data connection outside wifi range just use your cellphone as a wifi hotspot. Most people carry a cell and most of todays phones can do this

thanks, i know how to go to web via phone by changing wpa_suplicant2 file. But i want to connect via dongle.
I dont know how real this is, I have rooted my TF201 and no where do I see the mobile network on a stock rom, I have it on my phone yet I dont have it here, and also there would have to be drivers for the USB modem to be entered, this isnt a simple task, the only one i have found is in the UMTS app from the market, and even then this doesnt work, I just want a USB modem installed, I dont want to use my phone as the WIFI defeats the purpose of having a USB modem, surely someone has done this on a stock rom

Huawei G700 keeps asking permission to use mobile data after WiFi disconnects

I recently bought a Huawei G700. It's a fairly new and uncommon device. It runs Android 4.2.1 in combination with Huawei's own Emotion UI
When I have WiFi enabled and for some reason my Wifi disconnects (for example I go out of reach), my phone keeps asking me, each and every time, if it's allowed to use Mobile Data. if I don't answer, my mobile data does not connect thus I can't recieve any mails etc which is highly annoying.
This is the exact error/popup message that I get:
Data connection change
WLAN is unavailable, try to connect to mobile network?
I've googled this exact phrase, but I get 0 results.
How can I prevent my phone from asking if it's allowed to use mobile data?

It seems that this behavior is present in all recent Chinese ROMs from Huawei and there is no way to disable it. However, I found a workaround for it; The message only popsup if you have WiFi and Data Enabled and you lose WiFi connectivity. Then your phone will ask if it's allowed to switch from WiFi to Data. So, if you make sure WiFi is disabled before switching to Data, it will not ask this question. To do so manually, takes a lot of time. Luckily there is an app that can automate this task for you. Here's how:
Install the app 'Llama' from the Market (Free) and create these two events:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The 1 second delay is necessary, else it does not work properly.
What it does: Switch off WiFi as soon WiFi disconnects from your WiFi network and then enables Data. This way, it does not show the popup and 'automatically' switch to Data. Don't forget to manually enable WiFi again if you are in reach again of your WiFi network.
If you want Llama to automatically turn back WiFi on as soon you get home/in reach of your WiFi, you have to let it learn your location. Read the help/documentention on how to do so. It's pretty easy to do
This 'fix' works for me 9 out 10 times. Give it a try, I hope it helps you.
Kind regards.

[Q] How do you "Forget" out-of-range Wi-Fi networks???

I've looked all over the place, but there does not appear to be a method to "Forget" a Wi-Fi connection unless you are in range of the Access Point. Does anyone know where the S6 stores all the saved Wi-Fi connection profiles? They do not appear under Settings -> Wi-Fi, that only shows you the ones that are currently in range, not your previously saved profiles.
I'm asking because I'd like to delete all the unsecured APs I've connected to in the past, due to the recent kepboard security bug announcement. I don't want to accidentally go in range of a stored unsecured network and put my phone at further risk.
I'm answering my own question. I had to go out and download a 3rd party Wi-Fi manager app in order to display the saved out-of-range networks. Why this functionality is not built into the stock OS is beyond my wisdom.
Not sure why it doesn't work on yours, but on my S6 Edge (Verizon) I can go into settings, wifi, more, manage networks, and then long-press any entry and select "forget".
Same problem here, on unlocked and fully updated S6. There's no "manage networks" available in the Settings->Wi-Fi->More menu. Had to use 3rd party app to forget the networks...

Better to just get used to it, or go with a different manufacturer, the direction Samsung has been going the last couple years screams iPhone. Just look at how they built the s6, s6 edge. It's only a matter of time before everything they make will be running tizen.

Just my opinion but I think the S6 is the best Galaxy they've made, both hardware and software. Very few issues with my S6 apart from this wifi network management.
I just wish they would release a Gear S2 running Android Wear instead of Tizen...
I downloaded the WiFi Manager app and when I try to delete an old Wifi network, my S6 gives me an error message that says that WiFi networks can only be deleted from the app they were created in, which means it can only be deleted in Samsung's own WiFi Settings screen
The WiFi Manager third party app has an option to list Known Networks. Touching one brings up the option to forget it.
Unfortunately all you get under Nougat is a message that Android 6 only allows changes by the app that created the entry.
If the network is within range you can go to Settings / Connections / WiFi, touch a memorized network, and options come up including "Forget." But only if it's within range.
To forget "linksys", which my S7 insists on connecting to wherever it finds one, I took an old wifi router, configured it with the SSID "linksys", and was then able to see and forget it in Settings / Connections / WiFi.
It shouldn't be this hard.
?
This is the Method: Suppose you want to forget wifi network (test) Create a hotspot of another phone named (test) Security type>Wpa2 Passwork:12345678 Now turn on your s6 wifi Click forget enjoy

Question 5ghz wifi dosent work on redmagic 7

hi i just got my redmagic 7 today i had 6pro before but on my redmagic 7 i cant find 5ghz wifi in wifi settings but it works perfectly fine on my redmagic 6 pro any idea? whats the problem i tried to reset didnt help
Argh mate.. I literally got mine in the post this morning, fired it up, start going through the usual android initial setup, asks to connect to wifi, there is my 5Ghz connection, I connect to it, boom, all good.
Then it tells me there is an update right away, straight after connecting to 5Ghz wifi, so of course I accept. It downloads, installs, tells me to reboot. I do.
Phone reboots, wifi no longer connected, asks me to connect to wifi. I search for my 5Ghz wifi, nada.zip.gone.
Oh, my 2.4Ghz connection is showing, just no more my 5Ghz...
So yeah, it's definitely the software update that has knocked 5Ghz wifi off for no apparent reason that I can fathom. Rather frustrating to say the least.
The update the phone updated to is: NX679J_EUCommon_V4.11

You need to either enable or disable 20/40hz coexist in your router. This is a normal thing for cheap wifi modules. My PS Vita and Xbox One are the same way. Wifi doesn't work at all if that is enabled or disabled. Can't remember which one it was. Haven't used those for years lol.
But it has something to do with 20hz and 40hz coexisting that makes 5Ghz not come up for some devices. It also limits your speed to 286mbps.
This will be fixed in software cause it's likely just a bug when they were optimizing better wifi stability but ended up dropping a portion of how 5Ghz works lol
