noob question - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Guys please help me.. I have a query.
I just unlocked bootloader and want to follow the following procedure, please tell me if I'm doing anything wrong
Flash twrp using fastboot command
Flash lazy flasher using twrp
Flash magisk(for root purpose) using twrp
Reflash stock recovery img using fastboot command
If i follow the above procedure will there be any problem and also will I be able to install system updates using updater app??

why do u even want to reflash ur stock recovery TWRP is much better stay onit.!!! and first flash magisk and then lazy flasher and everything will be fine

The only reason I want to flash stock recovery is OTA updates..

Don't worry about OTA u can always manually download the update and flash it using TWRP

You mean I can install the update package without the need to download entire 1.5gb package every time?

So for every update I have to flash the entire rom + magisk + lazy flasher? And Is clean flash necessary every time?

Most likely!
Ive no idea about MIUI Roms tho. But I believe the same ^
Clean install via twrp everytime, would be good to go.

You can dirty flash new update
No need of clean flashing
And also you dont need to flash magisk and lazyflasher after flashing the update
Just the update zip thats all

You cannot flash dolby using stock recovery bro.. first you have to flash TWRP recovery. The fastboot command loads whatever recovery your phone contains. It will not flash TWRP

[Solved] I need help: Go back to stock from Treble custom rom

Hello.
So I've decided to flash treble AOSP Phh's rom.
It works but since I haven't figured out *before flashing* that safetynet can't be passed, I really want to go back to stock.
I've tried a lot of things like the dload method with differents update.app, but each time it fails.
I haven't TWRP and AFAIK it's pretty useless.
I don't care if I loose all my data, or get my bootloader re-locked. I simply want my H9 to works on stock.
Before flashing, I was on C432B364. Then I flash Treble AOSP from Phh using "fastboot flash system".
Should I flash stock partitons like system, vendor ? ...
I've downloaded these files: update.zip (STF-L09C432B365 ), and update_full_STF-L09_hw_eu.zip.
So what should I do ? Thanks in advance.
(of course if Magisk Hide function worked on Treble Rom, I'd keep using this custom Rom)
Did you install custom aosp with twrp or stock recovery ?
If u used stock recovery you have to flash system with the os you had before so B364 in your case and no B365. Then do wipe data/factory. Extract the system.img from .app of the full package not the light one.

Thank you for the quick reply.
So, I need to flash the b364 update, by using fastboot or the stock recovery?
Maybe answer my question first to be clear

I have never installed TWRP, so I still have the stock recovery.
I've flashed the rom with fastboot on my pc
Then its pretty simple. Just extract system.img from the .app of the full package of B364 and use fastboot to flash. Then do a wipe data/factory

And what about the other zip with data? It fails to update every time. I was able to restore my device too, but this zip just wont flash.

Updating via OTA or flashing stable updates

I have unlocked, disabled encryption and rooted Pocophone using Magisk , then flashed a custom kernel.
If a new update comes in for Pocophone, I know that I cannot directly go flash the OTA update because it will cause bootloop or brick my device. What to do before updating from previous to latest with custom kernel and root? (e.g. MIUI 9 > MIUI 10)

If rooted and with TWRP, I would never recommend flashing via updater app.
I suggest you follow these steps to update the same way I did. I did this from 10.0.6 (oreo) to 10.1.3 (android pie)
1. DOWNLOAD THE ROM (either via updater or from xiaomi.eu, but if using updater, click install later, just let the zip download.
2. disable all MAGISK MODULES
3. reboot to recovery and flash the latest ROM
4. wipe cache and dalvik
5. FLASH latest FED from this post
6. Flash latest Magisk. Reboot
Again, make sure to follow these steps exactly so as not to mess anything up. Careful and

Flashed ota failed. It showed an error in the middle of the flashing. I didn't took a screenshot because it instantly reboot the system then continuous bootloop happend... I don't know why but I'm going to make sure what was going on.
I disabled the force encryption, enabled ota survival, etc. damn..
I will try the stable since the beta failed. Just wait for hours for the update. Sorry guys..

Omg yes! It was Error 7.. If stable rom shows same results. Time to plan B.
Plan B is to try another custom recovery that supports ota updates, ota survival, and disables the force encryption to the data partition.

P.S: you wont get "assert" command in the updater script, but u can erase "get prop" command and try this.
You will find the update zip file in "Downloaded_rom" folder in internal storage

Guide to Root Emui 9 Add Second Methode with Twrp.

Ok we can root Emui 9,i root it and it works!
Unfortunately, no Twrp is available yet.
This Procedure works only with unlocked Bootloader.
I patched the Recovery Ramdisk with Magisk.
First Method:
1. Download Magisk Manager canary build to your phone and install.
2. Change in Magisk settings the update channel to "custom" inserting this URL. https://t2m.io/wuAFCrwO
Magisk Manager now will find the canary builds.
3. Check "force encryption" and "AVB 2.0" boxes.
4.Download this patched Recovery Ramdisk here is from 167
5.Reboot into Bootloader and flash it
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk patched_boot.img
6.Important step not to boot into the system but to recovery,That's the trick because it still boots into the System!
If you boot normally into the system it is not rooted,so just boot to recovery.
To do all the backsliding, just install the Stock Recovery 167.
Command:
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk RECOVERY_RAMDIS.img
Stock Recovery 167 Download Here
Patched Recovery Ramdisk 181
Stock Recovery 181
Second Method:
Download old Twrp for Oreo and flash it via fastboot.
(Do not forget to disable the Huawei Phone Finder before flash Twrp, otherwise it will not work failed)
Download Magisk-v18.1-b7f69238(18007).zip copy in External Memory and flash in Twrp.
Reboot into Recovery from Twrp again and it boot into rooted System.

About maintaing root with an OTA. I assume you are talking about installing it via TWRP right? And when you say don't reboot (step 3) you mean after installing the OTA right? Also the option on step 5 will it be availble in the TWRP when I will try to flask magisk?
Thanks a lot
Edit - I use the TWRP from wzsx150 and I am on the 9.7.27 developer rom from xiaomi.eu

The process mentioned in OP doesn't require TWRP, the option 5 will be available in the magisk manager itself!
If you're a advanced user and have flashed TWRP you do not need to follow this method, just flash the magisk zip and you're ready to go!

Oh ok thanks alot!! Last thing should I reboot after installing the OTA via TWRP in order to flash the magisk or not as you mention in your method/guide? If this is off topic sorry

Once you install the OTA and reboot you will lose TWRP as it will be replaced by the stock recovery!
Simply flash TWRP back and flash the magisk zip and you should be good to go!

Yes you'll lose your data during the bootloader unlock process, best way would be to backup all of your data on your PC first.
The only precaution is that you should be on Indian Firmware 10.3.3!

No device specific port is not yet available, I had flashed a couple of recoveries most of them resulting in bootloop. Some of them do work!

Great work! I cannot fully install magisk as I get bootloop everytime I install the zip in the manager (then have to wipe data etc). Im assuming this way I can say goodbye to TWRP and have a fully functional magisk
However, this would also work on chinese phone flashed with Indian/Global ROM yes?

Installation update error

Hi using latest updated stock rom with root..
Magisk
New August update doesn’t install..
Before i used to install updates in root..
Now cant..
Help..
Do you have twrp installed and if so did you flash any mods to the system?
If no mods were installed just flash the stock boot.img for your firmware version using fastboot and reboot and apply the update

Custom recovery that's why you cant install. Ota updates don't usually work with a custom recovery installed. You will have to flash stock boot.img there is a whole thread about this and all versions of the stock boot.img here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a3/how-to/guide-how-to-root-mi-a3-magisk-t3958509/page43

My build..

Maybe try to read it at least one more time..
same but different problem.
I'm having somewhat similar problem here, but the thing is, I'm using stock mi a3, without any custom bootloader, twrp, rom, etc.
currently in version 11.0.17.0.QFQMIXM
trying to install the august security update that was supposed to be version 11.0.20.0
updater showed the august update as 464mb, which is weird as its supposed to be 34mb or so.
any help from the experts here are kindly appreciated.
I have no custom recovery, or magisk but have same problem
So I solved the problem as I love root .. I had to loose recovery sharp... Now I have no recovery . I flashed stock ROM of Build 19 and installed the latest OTA . After then I extracted the boot image of stock ROM then I patch stock boot image of latest build.i got now root with magisk with no recovery . I hope I can install future OTA with the method..
If u can't install u must have to flash fastboot..
I have tried restoring stock boot.img of build 19.. but doesn't installed.. although I removed custom recovery but still couldn't install OTA..
