Is it possible to make a .app into a flashable .zip? - Honor 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there
I bricked my Huawei Honor 7i (ATH-UL06) while trying to root it, I only have TWRP in it now, whatever combination of keys I use to turn it on, it always goes to TWRP. So I wanted to know if there a way to make the stock rom (from the official website) into a flashable zip file, to install it through TWRP. The stock one is a .app file "UPDATE.app".
Here's the link: http://download-c1.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=91392&siteCode=cl
I hope you guys can help me, I can't think of any other way to do it.
There's supposed to be a way using SP flashtool, but I'm not sure if it works, I don't remember where to get the scatter file for it, and besides, for that I think I've to put it in fastboot mode, but the keys for that take it into TWRP, so wouldn't work, I think(?).
Please, help :'c

yes, but its a complicated process,
but you can also extract the .app file and manually flash boot.img, system.img through twrp or through fastboot

Yes it possible to to make .zip file (for flashing via twrp ) from .app file Check out for Huawei multi tool
I successfully used it for honor 7 but don't know about honor 7i you should try on multi tool thread

It's ok. I was going to, but ended up using Huawei Update Extractor to get the stock boot.img. Then installed it through TWRP, and rebooted to bootloader to get into fastboot. With that I only needed to flash system.img and recovery.img to get it unbricked. Took me a lot of time, but I got the phone back. I'll be uploading a flashable backup of the stock rom soon, so others can get it faster.
Thanks anyway.

[Q] How to extract boot.img from my device?

Is it specific for each device? Or does it depend only on finding the correct partition/block to be extracted?
Could you point me to further readings about that?
Thanks.
It is at least device specific, for extracting the bootimage, check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951426

What if everything is an illusion, and nothing exists?

Well, that link is to proceed AFTER you have boot.img at hand. I want to find a way to extract it from my phone (assuming default.prop can be changed in there).
Thanks.
When you make a back up with CWM, you have a copy of your bootimage in the clockworkmod map, not?
That's the thing ... I am trying to figure out how to get that backup in hand at first.
Currently, following the method in http://droidcore.blogspot.com.br/2012/12/how-to-edit-initrc-in-android.html
It seems to use the same scripts as cited in your link.
Will post results afterwards.
Don't make things more complicated as they are. If you just install CMW recovery (or TWRP for that matter) for your device, you have your full backup in minutes, including one of your bootimage, then use the script from my first post.
I managed to find boot.img, made the necessary changes, sent it back to device (used MPK Rom Studio and SP Flash Tool).
The problem is, the reason I want to change boot.img is to root my device. I thought that disabling ro.secure, I would be able to do so. But I couldn't.
I believe cmw recovery, or twrp, both need my phone to be rooted, no?

I have the same problem, I need the boot image of my device to root it using magisk manager, but I can't find it.
Help!!!!!
Hey simply extract the boot.img from the stock firmware if your device is not rooted......
I think this only possible when you have root..
It is also not possible with adb without root...so
If your device is rooted with magisk then untouched boot.img is placed in /data folder as stock.xxxx.gz format and simply extract it....
If your device is rooted with one click root apps then download kernel auditor app and select backup option and the boot.img will be available in android/data/ kernel auditor specific folder....
Hope this help
Edit:- If your device is Mediatek, using SP Flash Tool you can readback. If you have Snapdragon, then bkerler's edl tool can readback. (No need of root)

just google "Latest Software Version for OPPO OPPO AX7" and go to the Software Updates page on oppo-uk.custhelp.com. Download 2.4GB ozip file (like CPH1903EX_11_OTA_0210_all_oStq7F7jxqfF.ozip) and unpackit with 7zip program. You'll find boot.img inside .ozip file.

My device got bricked B330. So i had to reflash some stuff and ended up with false info under the section About Phone i had the same issue as him So i followed that instructions but i couldnt flash the Cust.img in the recovery (twrp) it gives me the error that i have as title. Without flashing the cust.img i cant use a revert package through dload since my Phone shows other information then the update package (denies to do the update instant) . My question how can i fix the error "File bigger then target device" so i can flash the Cust.img since fast boot doesnt work (error remote: command not allowed recovery) and twrp is my only option..
Instructions i followed to get back to stock.
Flash Boot.img, system.img, cust.img through twrp > flash stock recovery > Apply UK back to stock through dload
I cant flash cust.img so step 1 fails and i cant do the rest.
Anyone a idea why i cant flash this file through TWRP and fastboot? This is littery my last hope to get back to stock ;/

You need to use kiwi_twrp_5-14_recovery.img
and the backup needs to contain all these partitions
boot.emmc.win
cust.ext4.win"
erecovery.emmc.win"
firmware.info"
firmware.vfat.win"
misc.emmc.win"
persist.ext4.win
system.ext4.win000
system.ext4.win001
restore those and you'll be back in business
This rom also contains the /cust partition for b130

This is what i got.. http://prntscr.com/brv0ay the Repository doesnt contain this files aswell any idea? Is it possible to flash for example a full Kiw L22 rom and then use a revert package for L21 through Dload?
Oke what i did:
Wipe
Apply Cust partition with terminal
Apply backup/restore
flash stock recovery
Boots same issue, I just need the dload to get to work so i can flash the recovery pack. But it stays at 0 percent even after 15 mins.
What i found out is that i dont have the stock firmware (Dont have fingerprint and stuff, device doenst show as KIW L21), so i doenst do a ota update and local update ofcourse. I need a TWRP backup with firmware included. What im trying now is installing L21 MIDDLE-EAST firmware and then try to use a revert package for L21 through OTA.

Well, I'm not sure this is a good idea as it took me 11 days to upgrade from B140 (Lollipop) to B330 (Marshmallow) and only a few minutes to brick my Honor 5x L21 using a backup from kiwi_twrp_5-14_recovery.img when I wanted to revert back to B140... ^^
At boot time after the restore, I have an animated red H letter from the Honor Logo and impossible to get back to the welcome screen nor to any other screen so I don't have access to TWRP anymore...
We really need to have access to the official downgrade firmware from Honor !!!

As I said it is NOT really a good idea to use a TWRP backup to revert back from Marshmallow to Lollipop as it will brick your device !
I also said : ask your local Honor technical support for an official revert back firmware as your whole system is obviously messed up.
I don't know how you upgraded your smartphone but better downgrade to Lollipop first and try to upgrade again to MM a "proper way"...

Go to hi honor and search for honor 5x firmware, download it unpack it put the update.app on dload on microsd make sure you flashed stock recovery through fastboot hold power + volume down + volume up until it vibrates and done. I couldnt install any dload file on XDA the error "system failed" means the update is not for your device. Restoring Stock Rom on KIW-L24 but keeping TWRP

Hi guys,
I am using the link below to perform the restore to stock from CM13 but I think I am not interpreting the questions in this post correctly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/how-to/guide-kiw-l24-to-stock-t3318268
I tried to follow them to get my Honor 5x back to stock rom (while still keeping TWRP) and it was a no go. I kept getting stuck in a boot loop. I was able to immediately reflash CM13 though and get it functionaly. Would someone be kind enough to verify for me as to what steps exactly I need to follow (including ROM names, etc.)? I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.
@DigiGoon here's a person needing your help
I have a couple questions for you:
1) Before flashing CM13, what stock firmware version were you on? (e.g. b130, b140, b151, b331)
2) Before flashing CM13, did you take a NANDROID backup of your stock setup? Most guides have this step.
Follow these steps, and you'll get your stock ROM back.
Download your phone's latest firmware and extract system.img, boot.img, recovery.img, cust.img from UPDATE.APP using Huawei Update Extractor tool.
Boot into bootloader mode by switching off the phone then pressing only the Vol DOWN button, and connecting it to PC simultaneously.
Flash recovery first, using this command.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Flash all other extracted files similarly firing these commands.
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash cust cust.img
fastboot flash system system.img
After doing this put that very UPDATE.APP from which you extracted the files in dload folder of your external SDCARD.
Switch off your phone, and press Vol UP + Vol DOWN + Power button simultaneously.
Your device will now get to the full stock firmware.
Hope this helps you.
@DigiGoon

There is also a full, latest twrp, recovery backup o.o for b331
You restore everything except data, erecovery, and recovery... 1.6 gig download o.o does the job in one fell swoop as long as you have latest twrp.

It replaces the TWRP, and if you are flashing stock via 3 button method, then there is no way you can keep it, but if you are getting on stock by flashing individual files then just dont flash the recovery file and you will just have the TWRP alone.

Three button method is nothing but by placing update.app in /sdcard/dload/
And then put off the phone followed by pressing vol down+vol up+ power button . This will let it install full stock rom and phone looks brand new in terms of software

As @gopinaidu77 said about three button method, its just that. And about the other one, in that you have to extract all the important img files from UPDATE.APP and flash it via fastboot commands.

Extract UPDATE.APP via Huawei Update Extractor tool, pull out relevant img files (system.img, boot.img, recovery.img, recovery2.img(if not in your device), cust.img) flash this one by one via fastboot by booting your device in fastboot mode, fire the given below commands.
Code:
fastboot flash <img name w/o extension> <full path to the relevant img file>
After this try the three button method, if it doesn't work then boot into eRecovery then tap "Download Latest Firmware". It will connect to Wi-Fi and will start downloading the latest firmware of your device. After the process gets completed you'll be on stock ROM with your bootloader in "Locked" state.
You are guiding wrong bro . There is a need of extension too. Else it will give error saying file not found

I could not find any custom Roms for your device.
I could find an stock Rom for the Mya-l41 trough.
Here is an link: https://mega.nz/#!wKpT1ZaS!CV-2E4sNnUwIurskAdqCDpDawWlZD2UeABtSELk_ffc
That should be an update.app or an flashable zip.
You may get Huawei Update Extractor and extract the system.img and boot.img of the update.app
After that flash system.img and boot.img from fastboot.
Warning. This may soft brick your device.
Good luck.
If i helped press the Thanks button

Does it show an error or anything?
Fastboot flash system system.img
ok, so i found what i thought was a stock rom for my device on some spanish forum and used sp flash tool to install it
problem is, sp flash tool formatted my phone, but encountered an error trying to install the firmware and now my phone wont boot and windows says its not recognised
is there any fix to this? or is my phone bricked?
hey again! i know this post has been a wild ride of me doing stupid stuff and bricking my phone, but i got the firmware back!
only catch is that i'm receiving some nvram error (which i got on my previous phone too. i swear this is the last time im going mediatek), so if anybody has a method that can fix this it'd be highly appreciated
thanks
Hi, Ibxda.
Can you please share with us where you found the stock rom, what went wrong with flashing, and how you managed to get the firmware back?
I have a running system, but I rooted it and cannot apply official upgrades. I'd like to go back, upgrade and root again. I would appreciate the info on your progress.

You should root with Magisk, it's systemless and it should not affect updates. If you want to update you should flash stock recovery. After you updated you are free to flash Twrp again if you want. If you are rooted with SuperSU you should uninstall SuperSU and install Magisk

Ah, didn't see your edit.
Fastboot is limited in flashing, you can't flash everything.
From memory I think it is:
System, vendor, recovery_ramdisk, recovery_vendor, recovery_vbmeta, ramdisk, kernel, cache, userdata
You could use HWOTA for Mate 10 Lite if you can get into stock recovery, as it will flash the full update.app rather than the limited partitions fastboot can flash.

So I can flash all of these without getting the error and it'll will restore my system?
I remember on p8 lite I needed to flash only system, boot, and cust. To restore the system. It was much easier.

Yeah, just noticed.
So hwota. I don't have the "stock recovery" I can only flash the recovery that I extract from update.app
The one I flash is bugged for some reason, probably because it's from a slightly different system than the one I had.

If it can be booted into it should work. HWOTA will replace it anyway with a no-check recovery. Or you could use TWRP by Caucava21 and use HuRUpdater (https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279) to update from TWRP.
Either way will work.

It's a script, but it needs a TWRP that's compatible. The one by Catuva21 is (or so I've heard).
