Battery life (SOT) - Moto Z2 Play Guides, News, & Discussion

I have heard that the battery of the Z2P is not so bad compared to the Z1P.
If u guys could share the battery details, and the SOT, so we all could compare, would be great.

It's Awesome!!!!

It's very good. Though it's 3000 Mah but it lasts for a day on normal (moderate) use and about 15-16 hours on heavy usage. All of these is because of SD626's optimisation of battery. It's very clinically done so there is no unnecessary drainage of battery. It's standby time is also good.

Wow, that's better as the old Z Play. But with bigger battery it would be absolut amazing

I was on pace for about 6.5 hr SOT yesterday, mostly just browsing with about 30 min of gaming and 15 min of maps.

What? Just 6.5h with Z2 Play? Ok, nothing for me. I need really big battery life. Absolutly needed. Otherwise I don't want the phone.

Someone screenshots? With my z play i have 7,5-9h sot

Anyone else having "Cell Standby" consuming a lot of battery?

Cell Standby battery usage goes up as the signal strength goes down. The phone cranks up the power to maintain a signal.
From your picture, it looks like you are at 1 or 2 bars on the meter. That's what I get at my work and that's where standby uses the biggest chunk of my battery. At home I have close to full bars and standby uses a lot less battery.

It's quite enough for me, I remember on my z play I got more SOT but z2 play is definitely not bad, plus it's multitasking faster due to the 4GB ram.

I also get 6 to 7 hours SOT during my tests, compared to 3 to 4 hours on my Nexus 5x.
But there is one area where the Z2 Play is surprisingly bad. The LTE signal strength is pretty weak. With the Nexus 5x I get consistently "5 bars" at home and just 2 bars with the Z2 Play. Which means I have essentially a yellow/orange dotted in the "Cellular network signal" battery history. I am wondering what difference a 5 bar LTE signal would make (in terms of battery life).
Most likely this signal strength difference can be explained by the different modems. The Nexus 5x has an x10 lte modem. The newer Z2 Play has only an x9 lte modem. To address this problem the 626 features TruSignal antenna boost technology which is supposed to optimize reception in weak signal strength conditions. But apparently it doesn't work that well?
Does anybody else have similar LTE signal strength issues?

Screenshots ...

Just revising my SOT ...
I consistently get 7-8 hours with low 4g signal strength (wow!). Really impressed.

I don't think anymore that this is a modem issue. I was able to compare with an Oppo R9S which also has an x9 lte modem (snapdragon 625). But the 4g signal was excellent on the R9S ...

I'm getting mobile standby as my largest drain as well, even though I have full signal strength 100% of the time. Seems to be quite high to me.

Went camping with no phone reception, wish I could get this battery life all the time!
Sent from my Moto Z2 Play using Tapatalk

I'm also having the same cell standby issue. I'm always struggling to get to 4 and a half hours of SOT, because cell standby is always at the top even with 3/4 bars of signal. I can't live with this. I read in the Motorola forums and one of the solutions they say is to recalibrate the battery. To do that, you have to press the power button until the phone restars and then charge it to 100% percent. I will try it for a couple days.

does the samsung galaxy s3 have signal and battery issues ?

hi everyone this is my first thread and i am glad to be here
i have a question
i am thinking of buying the samsung galaxy s3 but i read that some people are complaining about the signal and the battery and i wanted to know is an issue in the carrier or from the phone itself ? and is it a problem on all of the samsung galaxy s3 phones ?
Well this S3 is the smartphone with the longest battery life I ever got.
I would say it is twice the nexus one or LG X2 I had before and 4 times my older Basic Galaxy.
Reception is very good and Wifi is also the best I have ever seen.
Battery life is fantastic and signal strength is also fantastic (both better than any other android phone I've ever owned). I've found wifi strength can be a bit lacking but not to the point where it becomes a problem.
Same as above, no signal or battery issues. Battery is very long-lasting.
Only issue I've had so far was a wakelock keeping the phone awake all night and draining it, but that can happen on any device.
Good reception and battery life. Gotta be happy with 6 hours screen time.

very impresive man..btw my s3 doesnt have any signal or battery issues
i think my have battery problem, it don even last me a day and i dont even use it that much and also mine gets very hot when charging it
Believe me after coming from a LG optimus 3D i would say the battery life is awesome. LG optimus 3d battery life with heavy usage 3 hours no usage 5. S3 with heavy usage 15 hours or more, no usage i have no idea last time i left it on idle to check it was almost 2 days..
That is comparing a dual core to a quad core phone the battery is simply amazing and the signal hasn't dropped for me at all it is excellent..
I'm having battery issues. Cell standby seems to use a crap load of battery for seemingly no reason.
This pic is just over night. I went to bed with 100% battery and woke up with these battery stats:
Battery life is not a issue in this mobile..its awesome..even signal strength is also fine so till now no probs at all ..
So I'm having major battery issues. After 2 hours of light use my battery is down to 84%. Tried to post screen shots of the battery usage but can't upload .png file. Basically the android system is consuming almost 90% of the battery. After 4 hours it is almost half dead and by 8 hours less than 20% left. Very frustrating. Power saving mode is on.
Ok so i was able to attach an image showing a screenshot I took yesterday showing the terrible battery life.

My problem exactly. Cell standby is giving my battery a hard time. On Voodafone now.
IMO High Cell standby power drains suggests your signal is weak?? chaning your wireless network settings may help Eg: 4G on or off, roaming etc. High Android system drains suggest unnecessary systems always running. I would try turning off any unused apps, GPS, etc & lowering display brightness. I think I'm going to get this phone tomorrow.

Moto E battery life

Hello all forum members,
i have recently bought a moto e and been using it for over a week now. the mobile has been performing very well. however recently i noticed that the battery life for my moto e is coming to around less than 1 day. For instance yesterday i had taken it completely charged in morning around 7 am from house. i did not charge it through the day. it had mobile data on through the day.background applications were running like the updates, location, emails etc which are usually on. at home i have wi fi and used it along with a small time of playing games (may be half to one hr). by the time i had gone to rest, the battery was around 13 percent and phone was dead when i got up.
so it lost around 87% charge in 14-15 hours.
is this normal time to expect on battery? i read people claiming more than 1 day with normal usage.
please help me out with this as i am concerned whether to return the phone or get a replacement.
thank you,
Tarun

It's completely normal. Moto E's battery last for that much time only.

In that case, Nokia 3310 says hi.

I meant a smartphone
I am getting a SOT of (mostly indoor use):
1- Only 2g all day - 5.5+ hours
2- 2g and Wifi(wifi mainly used) all day- 6.5+ hours
3-Only wifi all- 7+ hours
And a average standby time of around 24 hours with that SOT
I am not a intensive gamer, my usage pattern includes mainly using messaging services, watching videos on youtube, listening to music.
Snapshots of battery life
i am attaching the two screenshots i took yesterday. i have tried calibrating my battery as what Matt has suggested on motorola forums for moto-g.
discharged the phone completely, charged it to 100% without turning it on. kept at 100% for 4 more hours, removed from charger, turned it on for 3-5 mins, then put it off and charged it again for 1 hour. repeated this cycle for 1 more time.
after this calibration even, i am getting a low usable battery life i think. 13 hours to 5% charge. during the last few hours (around 2-3 hours) i was chatting on whatsapp and listening to FM radio, so the screen was on as shown, other services were on like location, mobile data, auto brightness.
can anyone tell me if this is normal?, people are claiming a battery life of more than 1 day. now i am getting really worried.
thank you,
Tarun

Onscreen time. Please share your GSAM

Some reviews reporting terrible SOT with Redmi Note 2. Share your gsam and thoughts.
The first few ROMs were poor. On the 5.9.18 developer ROM from xiaomi.EU (multi language version of official China Developer ROM) the most I've been getting is between 4 and 5 hours. I'm using a different launcher and widgets now though which probably doesn't help the situation. It's certainly a lot worse than my little Jiayu G4S which has a similar sized battery, 4.7" screen an older SoC. It's a shame that I now have a mediatek device with decent GPS but I have to use it sparingly if I'm out cycling. Doh!
Hmm.. Thank you for your reply. It sounds manageable but somewhat disappointing. Any other reports are welcome.
I'm lucky if I manage 3 . On the latest developer with Google Apps installed installed. This is greenify and low screen brightness.
Just can't seem to get over three hours.
Any tips would be great.
Why would you even use Greenify when MIUI has multiple battery saving options already built-in? I can get 4-5 SOT with 2 SIM cards, 3G/4G, wifi on, internet browsing, texting, GPS and sync on. No gaming, though. Also depends how long it's idle.
Sent from my Redmi Note 2
Will give it a try. Uninstalled greenify. Will see how I get on.
Uninstalled greenify. Not much difference. Have now wiped my device and fresh installed 5.9.24 xiaomi beta and I've got my first 4 hours screen on time since getting my device.
5.9.18 usually 4.5-6 H SOT
Who makes your screen? 80% of my battery drain is my screen. Only got it on 20% screen brightness. Getting 18 hours system time and at very most 4 hours (usually just over three). Do you have sync turned on?
Tianma, sync turned off, also using contrast in standard mode. Now since I plugged off my phone from the charger, I'm using it all the time with 1.5h screen on and still have 86% battery.
Also I'm running Polish MIUI ROM, which is based on chinese ROM.

what rom do you use?
Using china rom 6.7.10.10 and greenify, I got 16 hours total, including 5 hours SOT and 2 hours talk time. The rom is very good, but the tianma's panel is really a battery hog.
Hi guys, still waiting for my phone. Maybe still one more week. Reading many thread about battery consumption it seems this is really a disappointing point for this phone.
Did you manage ton improve it with latest ROM?
Some people did require to perform battery recalibration. Did you try that?

Just got this for 3 days.
All day 3G minimal wifi. Browsing mostly.
Friends. We find a solution for battery life. If you use mobile them forums for browsing,or whatsapp etc. use 2g . When will you use twitter, instagram etc switch 2g to 3g. My friends take 5-6 hour screen time. So If somebody make 2g-3g toggle or widget for Miui it would be AWESOME. Thanks.
Also when you use WIFI then change your preffered network type to 2G. It will impact your battery life however doesnt use mobile data.
I am getting quite bad battery life.
MIUI 7.
At home all day with strong signal.
On WIFI all day.
Almost no calls, bit of texting, 30 minutes of bluetooth music and some light gaming.
I expected better! With my old Sony Z2 i would still be at 65% with these kind of stats.
And here is my other Xiaomi product with excellent battery life, i mean WOW! http://i.imgur.com/zyRO2UE.png

Just have a look at the below videos. Unfortunately, that's how the batterylife & performance of the Exynos version is, just like mine. Unless you tweak it with so many tweaks and workarounds(search the forum, there are many tweaks if you like to consider) like many others here, there isn't much hope unless Samsung seriously considers resolving this which is unlikely.
Yes it is correct the battery life on this s9plus is pathetic,
Even on my phone the android system is taking major amount of battery ,
I tried factory resetting my phone a few times but no luck .

Your Android System is particularly high at 21% compared to your SOT.
Noticed that you're on 3G, it consumes battery a lot more compared to 4G.
How's the mobile coverage at your area?

I thought LTE consumed more battery than 3G... The reason was a problem with the network. Fixed now so I'm back on 4G. Lets see if it makes a difference
Well love the phone but the battery is the worst I've seen so far for the price u pay. People focus o SOT time but I do the same as on my old iPhone 7 plus but with the iPhone would last from awake to bed time with one charge S9 plus 2 times at least and with though about running out all the time. Shame brilliant phone.
I'm having great battery life on my Exynos 9+. See the attached screenshot.
Only disabled Bixby and AOD.
I use Facebook, Messenger, Snapchat, WhatsApp, GPS high accuracy and sync one Gmail and one IMAP.
For testing purpose I decided to run the whole day with medium battery saver activated, but modified to only restrict the CPU and lower the brightness a bit. That means still running max. resolution and syncing in the background.
Right now the phone still has 36% battery left with:
- 18 hours 33 minutes since unplugged
- 6 hour 30 minutes SOT (That is potentially 10 hours SOT with 24 hours since unplugged!)
- 10 minutes phone call.
Besides my regular usage pattern, I've also played a game a lot on this charge.
No complaints here yet, im getting 5hrs SOT and have only done a few charge cycles so i expect that to improve.
Im getting close to what i do on my pixel 2 xl so in my eyes thats impressive

I had an Exynos S8+, and battery life on that was pretty bad, with Android System also taking up more juice than the Screen. Now I'm on a Snapdragon S9+, and dare I say battery life has almost doubled. Android System battery usage is way below Screen battery usage.
Two steps which fixed the battery drain for me :
1. Changing the Location Settings from "High Accuracy" to "Battery Saving" {You can find this in Settings -> Connections -> Location}
2. Using 2.4Ghz WiFi instead of 5Ghz WiFi channel. My Router is a Dual Band Router and somehow when I connect to the 5Ghz Channel, the battery drain is almost doubled. Sticking to the 2.4Ghz Channel improves the standby time by quite a lot.
Hope this helps.

It's router specific. It only matters if you have a DualBand Router and you opted to connect to the 5Ghz Band.

Yes... The stand by time is really good on this phone... I had the phone off the charger for 8 hours and barely used it all day ( busy day at work ) and I was still at 89 Percent at the end of the day... It definitely takes a few cycles still you notice major major changes .
I have exinos and never had a worse phone regarding battery life and heating. I tried all possible solutions for increasong battery life but still I get only 3-4 hours of SOT with a total of about just 15 hours!!!
What iritates me the most is that I do not have mjch apps and all is set to sleep and everything possible but the phone still randomly gets super hot even when nothing is runing, which then drains the battery too.
The drain overnight is also bad, it is draining 1-2% per hour.
Poor battery life . Same result even after carrier sent a replacement.
cant believe that i have s9 plus exynos and battery life is really not good for me.
