Virus embedded after root - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys.
I'm fighting against a ZTE a460 by two days. Please help me!
I have tried a lot of ways to root this phone so I can remove bloatware by the carrier. The only app that root it was iRoot.
After the rooting the phone now shows ads even in the set up screen! Even when I did run TWRP and did the factory reset, when I enter android and set wifi the phone starts to show ads.
The app that show the ads is called SMSTool. I can use an antivirus to remove it from the phone, but I can't clean the ROM.
I am a "advanced user" so this is not a problem for me, but this phone will not stay with me. I will give it to a relative in some months.
Can I clean the ROM? I've read a lot about flashing a new ROM but people are saying that they can't use SIM functions after flashing, so the phone became a game, not a phone. If a root access can infect, a root access can clean, right?
How can I do that? Please! Help!!!

Flash the phone using the original rom.

Thank you for your reply!
I don't have a trusted source of original or brazilian rom.
I've searched a lot, but always when changing the rom people are suffering with loss function of SIM card .
I'm afraid to try one of them and lose the phone. I'm using it normally now but, if I need to wipe all data, the virus will come again.
Besides this option, there is another?

[Q] Force Close Loop. How can I fix this?

I haven't downloaded anything recently, I literally just picked up my phone after I woke up and I got a message saying "the application tasks provider has stopped working unexpectedly" and it gives me the option to force close. When I close it, a similar message pops up for email, messaging, social hub, tw launcher, facebook and it keeps going on and on without giving me a chance to use the phone. Do you guys know what I can do? I would be extremely grateful if you could help me out.

Bwahahahaa ;-) Gold.
Yes i've tried that. I've take the battery pack, memory card and sim card out, then replaced them but the loop keeps occuring. It's gotta be more of a software issue and that's why I need your help.
You haven't told us anything whatsoever about your setup/rom/kernel/etc. We're not mind readers
Try a factory reset in the first instance.
If you're running anything other than stock firmware, go back to stock firmware.
i recomendeed to change your rom..
i think that is a crush from your system, mate..
About 4 months ago I had exactly the same problem.
Is there Debugging-Mode enabled in you're phone?
Is you're phone rooted?
Try to take out only the SIM Card and then connect it to you're PC. Then turn the S2 on and try to backup all you're data.
If you're phone is rooted, try to boot up in CWM Recovery Mode and go to "advanced" and then "Fix Permissions". It shuold solve you're problem.
If you're phone isn't rooted, then you have to flash a stock or custom ROM.

Sorry about that man, but I have no idea what my setup/rom/kernel is, don't even know what most of that means. The thing is I can't even go to the settings on my phone to check because the popups won't allow me to.

I know about technology but not like this. I have no idea what debugging mode/rooted or cwm recovery is. Any chance of explaining it to me in really, REALLY easy terms?
Sorry about my lack of knowledge guys, but I wholeheartedly appreciate you taking the time out to give me a hand.
1. Try wiping all data (fixed when i had the problem)
1. U need a kernel with CWM recovery (recommend siyah kernel)
2. Install with odin look on these forums for odin dont remember link
3. go to recovery (vol up+home button+power) and wipe data/cache (wipes everything apps, passwords, etc)
4. Try now if works click the thanks button

No problem man
Okay...when you have root permissions on youre phone you can write in system files and do other administrative work.
You can root youre phone by flashing a rooted kernel. The kernel is something like the heart of youre Android OS. You have to know some facts about youre S2, to root it successfully.
You have to know which Kernel version is installed at the moment. This information you can find in Settings -> About Phone -> Kernel Version (or something like that...my S2 is in German ). But when youre phone is bricked or youre system is damaged, its really hard or impossible to find out the kernel version. I think you won't be able to root it successfully :-(
So the only one possibillity to rescue youre S2 is, to flash a new firmware.

[Q] MIUI installation and user data question

Hello,
I am unable to post in the Developement threads at the moment due to the post limit but thought I would ask here and hopefully someone can help me.
Firstly, I have a Locked BootLoader that cannot be unlocked, I have rooted my XS and it is running ICS, I pretty much have it the way I want it but would like to try the MIUI ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768057 which works for all BootLoaders.
Secondly, I need to know if I will lose Root access by flashing the above ROM and also if I will lose all my personal Data. I have CWM installed and have backed up everything it will alow me to back up. But I am just concerned about losing root access and personal data.
For those of you who have flashed the ROM, can you tell me if root access is removed and if personal data is also wiped?
Thank you in advance and I appreciate all answers.
Personal data like pics, music and movie will not be lost if they are on the ext sd card.
Root should stay, but all apps that you install will be wiped so you need to download again from play store and make a backup for contacts and sms.

Would backing up via CWM not be advisable, just backup using the Sony PC Companion or the Backup and Restore utility on the phone itself, should I just use them all to be sure?
Thank you for the reply, much appreciated.
Allow me to add, all Media files are on the additional storage of the phone, the 32gb, I am just worried about SMS, Contacts and so on.
Also, with the above mentioned ROM, are there any limitations as to what apps would run, for instance, ICS compatible apps I previously purchased should have no issue?
Forgive my ignorance, I am not so familiar with Android.

Any chance you could point me in the right direction?
I originally used the method outlined by Sharaz22 to root my XS, downgrading to GB and flashing several things, but that is the only thing I have read on the subject of rooting a locked bootloader and to get it up to ICS rooted, I have not read about any special method for MIUI to maintain root access, even in the thread I linked above I could not see a work around, unless I am going blind.
Again, thank you and your help is appreciated.

You will never lose root if you install roms with cwm,you will lose it only if the rom are buggy but not in case of miui.

Okay, this is making sense to me now, so I just need to place the files into the suggested directory and reboot into CWM and flash MIUI throught there. Obviously following the instructions in the original thread and all should be fine, root access will not be lost and I can restore backed up content such as SMS and contacts without any fuss?
Thanks guys, that is great. :good:

I lost both when I flashed MIUI. I still had root, but not CWM. For locked bootloaders, the CWM is installed in the /system partition. When you flash MIUI, all of the files in that partition are changed, so you lose it. You can either reflash CWM like you did the first time or you can use this method (I forgot I had the link): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787532

Sorry GM, one final question.
What is the difference between the one you linked and the one in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1793432
I notice Sharaz22 states he removed the Kernel so it would work with the stock Kernel, now I have the stock Kernel since I installed a stock ICS so what problems would I face if I went with the official one and not the one Sharaz22 "edited"?

Nope. Flash ROM with CWM, wipe what you have to wipe, and before rebooting, flash the CWM package (no need for the Superuser one)
Guys, I suffered some mishap yesterday trying to flash MIUI on my phone.
After the flashing process with CWM, the phone would not boot, no response other than a single flash of the green LED and a vibration, it would not boot and i tried for over an hour. In the end I had to use Flashtools and get ICS back on the phone.
Since that, I cannot root my phone again, I have tried and tried, the first time I did it, it was easy and straight forward, downgrading to GB and using the batch files and so on, but now, each and every time I try to do it and follow the guides, of which I have found two, it does not work. That is because the process states that the "Device is not detected" and it cannot locate anything related to ADB. I have checked the drivers, installed several, reinstalled flashtools and each time I go through the guide I am left with an unrooted phone and nothing seems to work. Even in flashtools it struggles to flash the ROM every now and then and the phone just seems to randomly disconnect even though it remains plugged in.
Any help, I am struggling to get anything done on this phone and I would rather just have Root and CWM than MIUI.

To all of you, thank you, I f***ing love you guys!
I managed to get Root and CWM back on with ICS and Flashed MIUI, I was disappointed by MIUI and thankfully I had created a CWM backup a day earlier of my phone the way I wanted it, so I restored that and have everything I was missing and back how the phone was before I started messing around with MIUI.
Thank you all so much for your help, you guys are a great benefit to this community, thanks!

[Q] Please help me save my 3 months old GN2

Hi i got my white AT&T Galaxy Note ii few months back and i really loved it, i was first using my phone with Wifi since it was locked, but after unlocking it few days ago, when i inserted my sim card, the phone showed 4G and ever since my BATTERY have not known peace, i loose 1% battery life in like 2 minutes.
I also had issues turning on my wifi hotspot so i can share network to other devices.
When i found this awesome site, i learned that i could root my phone and get it to do so much more, i did that successfully with an APK app here called framaroot, now i followed every single step well and booted my phone with Samsung Custom rom i think.
But the problem now is, my battery is still not been able to hold a charge, the 4G icon is still there which i don't need for anything, am ok with 3G, and i still have all this crazy useless AT&A apps allover my phone and i can't even turn on my hotspot for tethering.
Please i hope to get solution to this problems, and i hope i have not asked my question in the wrong thread.
Thanks all.

go here for downloading you stock firmware
or here also download odin from the second link
then open odin and place the downloaded tar file in pda
if it is a zip file extract it you will get tar file or tar.md5
then backup your data etc and turn off your phone
press vol down+home+power button to enter a screen then press vol up to enter download mode
connect your phone to pc
odin will show the port you connected
then start flashing after some time usually below 10min
odin will show pass then remove your phone and on
your phone will be as fresh as you bought

Hi,
After installing the Jedix 19 ROM the phone is stock on the Samsung Galaxy Note II logo.
What do you think could be the cause of this, i even did the wipe data and wipe cache process but still the same thing.
Do you have a recovery installed? If you've got cwm, download CyanogenMod and stick it on an mini SD card, move it to your phone, factory wipe it and flash it. Its worked for me on a boot looped gnote2. Also, once you get a working ROM, just use your root to remove system apps.
only do this is if you have a custom recovery like cwm or twrp
Step by step:
0: get the required stuff, you're gonna need about 250mb of internet, a microsd card, a card reader and some patience.
1: download CyanogenMod, http://get.cm and get a stable for the t0lteatt (att gnote 2)
2:download gapps for 4.3.
3:move them both to the SD and put it in your phone. Boot into recovery.
4:factory reset it, hope you don't using a out of the box phone.
5:flash cm, then gapps.
6:reboot
7:if it works, take a backup
Good luck!

Hi thanks so much for your reply, i appreciate your time.
Yes i have a backup file with the help of CWM and i have been able to move back to my backup file.
My phone model is SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 and from all the reviews i have seen i think the JediX Custom ROM is the best yet for it so am trying to stick with it for a start.
I need suggestions on why after getting the congratulation message to feel the force, it won't boot and just hangs.
Please if you have experienced this in the past please your suggestions are welcomed.
Ask me questions and i'll provide answers that am sure will help you to help me solve this
I would just flash cyanogen for the time being to see if itll even boot. It just replaces the downloading stock in previous posts. If you can get it to boot, that will be progress.

So sorry i forgot to mention it that i was able to restore to my stock backup file and my phone is working fine, but i still want to flash a ROM on it.
Am tired of charging this phone every minute, this is a Note II for crying out loud.
If i ask you to choose for me, between Jedix19 and CyanogenMod 10, which would you stick with so that i'll know if am to start downloading a new ROM to flash again and try.
Thanks
Honestly I've never used a Jedi ROM, so mainly if you want to stick to Jedi try flashing a different version. Good job taking that backup, that saved a whole lotta trouble.

edit - Aaaand, there's my third "brick"
fixed my brick
Even tho it says not to remove the battery i did. I had no other choice, i tried just about everything. only way i was able to get a sign of life from the phone was by plugging it into a usb. then the led at the top left of the screen would turn on and nothing more. i bricked mine by using motochopper somehow, first it would say the root failed then i tried changing some things and eventually i got a device not found error. i gave up on that method of rooting but the phone was still working. then i found framaroot. i think i used the first exploit and it bricked. i took out the battery VERY carefully, waited 10 seconds(cant be too safe), reinserted the battery, and it rebooted and was rooted. now im just worried it might have not fully rooted. going to do some tinkering and if it bricks ill let you all know.
goodluck
Yeah the battery is super easy to take out without it looking like you messed with it. I have used both bohomir and faramir with no problems. If you're worried about partial root; do a full unroot with superSu, reboot, unroot with framaroot using the original exploit you chose, reboot then reroot.

This is only a factory rom.
But the recovery I made would let you recovery from a brick.
You will need to read through at least the last 5 pages to figure out what you need.

[Q] HELP regarding lenovo p780 network.

Hi everyone,
This is my first post/question on this awesome community. I have a lenovo p780 8gb, the phone was working absolutely fine until yesterday. Now I am not getting any signal coverage whether it be 2g or 3g, I didn't do anything to the phone, no root, no physical damage etc. I tried searching for a solution but all effort in vain. I checked with different sim cards, tried the factory reset but the signal never came. I also tried to upgrade the firmware but after downloading the update data of 11gb the phone entered recovery mode and the update failed. I will post the complete error message if any one asks. Please help, it's very very annoying. :crying::crying::crying:
thanks

Hi. You must tell us more about your phone. Like: are you in custom ROM? Your ROM is ROW or Chinese? Do you have Custom Recovery or Stock? Have you moved in anorher region then where you tested the phone, because the modem would not recognize the network type?
Ohh... And 11gb of update for your phone does not exist. Max 1gb in custom ROMS.

Hi thank you so much for replying, As to answer your question everything is stock, the rom, recovery etc. My rom is ROW. I didn't change my region, the signals just went missing without any reason. I am sorry about writing 11gb update I wanted to write 11mb. I havent rooted my phone and havent tinkered with it in any way. The phone is 3 months old. Also the phone is showing a system update of 11mb but when I download it and enter into recovery to apply it the installation aborts. I really have no idea what is happening. It's really frustrating. If you have any questions please let me know.
thanks

This is realy strange indeed. I think your phone is in warranty time? Iff your phone is not rooted we cannot do mutch! Maybe you should go to a local service store.
Yeah it is, if you have any kind of solution then I can root my phone. I tried to install a different modem but the installation aborts without giving any kind of error message.

Yes. Because your phone doe not have a custom recovery.
To root your phone you can use Framaroot but you are going to lose your warranty and this is not good.
After that you can install a custom recovery with mobileuncle tools and then you can patch a new modem.
OK , can you share a link about how to install custom recovery in lenovo p780, and a list of few modems. It will be really nice of you. Thanks

My question is while installing a new modem do we have to copy only the modem file or the whole. Zip package which includes firmware, mddb etc?

This zip file must be installed from custom recovery like TWRP or CWM.
Iff you doit manualy, must copy the modem files and the set permissions! after that reboot the phone.
