Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 SM-T825 OTG not working - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

Here's hoping someone can help, I have a Galaxy S8 & a Galaxy Tab S3
I received a genuine otg adapter with the S8 which works perfectly when I plug in either a flash drive or mouse to the S8.
As both devices have usb-c v3.01 I assumed (rightly or wrongly) that I could use the otg from the S8 & it would work ok on the Tab S3, but no when I plug into the Tab S3 nothing happens.
Well I say nothing happens, if I plug in a laser mouse it does light up but no mouse icon, so it's supplying power but nothing else.
Does anyone know if this adapter should work, whether I need a dedicated otg adapter for the Tab S3 or whether I have a faulty port?
Any help gratefully received as been searching for answers for hours we no luck.
Thanks in advance.

Same problem for me too, tried couple of other samsung device but just the Galaxy Tab S3 not work, think that might be purposely miss the feature.

I have 2 USB-OTG adaptors (one at home, the other at work) and they both work flawlessly on my Tab S3. I've used them for wireless mice (and yes, I get a mouse cursor on the screen), thumb drives and portable HDs that have their own power supply.

4.3 MHL HDMI problems!

Hi guys
Updated to 4.3 no issues. But I recently bought an MHL to HDMI adapter for my Note 10.1 2014 which is working very well with the tablet. So I wanted to try it out with my S3 and it doesnt even detect that there is an hdmi cable connected. It starts charging when i connect the power cable to the adapter, but no hdmi out.
Any ideas? It's just strange because it's working with the note 10.1 which also has android 4.3...
HDMI working fine on my 4.3, S3 requires a special connector for hdmi -no idea if the note has the same connector.
should be the same.. It's a 5 to 11 pin adapter. It even says "S3 MHL Adapter" on it!
I have a whole bunch of apps frosted with Titanium though. Maybe i frosted something that is needed for hdmi?

MHL to HDMI adapter for Tab pro

Got a new MHL to HDMI adapter, I have a galaxy S4 phone and a galaxy note 10.1 2014 tablet. Works with both of them. I was able to get an HDMI output to project the tablet image on my TV. The next step will be to watch a movie on my TV screen that is sourced from my tablet and phone.
Then i tested it with my brother's tab pro 10.1, and it also works awesome. Chose to get this over the Samsung OEM one. So far I am very pleased.
Good to know but exactly how many of your posts are plugs for your website?
so will this mirror the screen or does it only work with viewing movies and pictures?
Does anybody know of any other affordable adapters that will work on a Tab Pro 8.4?

Cable Matters MHL 2.0 to HDMI Adapter with integrated USB Charging Port and 6' Charging Cable for Samsung Galaxy S3/S4/Note 2/Note 3/Note 8.0 - Black. Available on amazon. Sorry, Xda won't let me post the link.
This works with the 8.4 pro w or w/o external power. I had to trim plastic shroud around micro USB plug so it would insert deep enough to make contacts. Mine may have just been a defective example. It was an easy fix.
This one requires a standard m/m HDMI cable (not supplied). The one in post 1 requires a MHL to micro USB cable. (Supplied ? see correction.) The cable needs to be long enough so you can sit with your tablet and reach the TV.
Correction: The one in #1 does come with two cables. A USBmale to microUSBmale (for power) and a Micro USB Male to Male MHL Cable. (The later wasn't included in the pictures unless that what's in the black sleave box). How long is the Micro USB Male to Male MHL Cable? The length isn't listed on WOWparts.
Another correction 4Apr14: The Cable Matters MHL 2.0 to HDMI works fine without external power. Since you can set brightness of the tablet to minimum, you can easily get 4 hours on a charged 8.4 pro, maybe more. If you connect 5v power to the MHL 2.0, the tablet reports it is charging, but in fact, it is not. This is pretty strange. On my Galaxy 7.7 connected to a Samsung HDMI adapter, external 5v is required for the HDMI to work and it also charges the tablet.

after I read this ordered 2 1 for me (Tab Pro 8.4) and 1 for my friend ( Note 3 ) works great can watch a movie on the monitor ( using my PC monitor for this) while still being able to use other apps ( as long as you use the sammy vid player doesn't work that way with 3rd party vid players)
And to clear out some: If you don't know, better not say it,
The kit comes with all you need the "converter" is the small extra mini-usb piece labeled SIII => which by the way I noticed is extra long before I even used it, I figured bad quality control maybe? but no, it happened to my friend that length is actually needed to make contact with the MHL pins i'm guessing at this point since I read that Firedog91902 had to trim his for it to reach further in.
But yes it works great and comes with all you need!, The HDMI plug, USB Cable and the USB 5 pin to 11 pin converter all you need to supply( which you already have) is the charger or another USB cable for it to draw the needed juice.
They way I set it up in 3 steps
HDMI adapter/unit plugged to my monitor ( has 2 HDMI sockets )
Took and extra mini Usb charging cable from and old HTC for power and plugged into a USB 2.0 powered hub.
And last but not least Used provided USB cable with the little dongle converter to plug to the unit/HDMI adapter and my Tab 8.4 and tadaa works great!!

Both and not only that, if you use the stock Video player you can watch the movie on the TV while still browse and use the TabPRO for other stuff, just press home and the movie keeps playing and now you can chat or what ever else with the tab while watching the movie.

[Q] Questions About MHL Adapter & OTG Cable Working Simultaneously

Hi everyone,
I have an unrooted Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 on T-Mobile (UK). Running firmware 4.3.
I have an MHL adapter that works perfectly. I also have an OTG cable that also works perfectly.
I wanted to be able to connect my PS3 controller and display the game on my TV, so I bought an adapter from eBay and after plugging it into the phone and connecting the power cable, it simply charged the phone and the phone didn't recognise that the HDMI cable was plugged in or the PS3 controller either. So I got a refund and purchased the official
Samsung Multimedia Smart Dock(also from eBay)which is compatible with the S3 and it was exactly the same result as the cheap adapter I bought. The Smart Dock didn't recognise that the HDMI or the controller, it just charged the phone and nothing else.
Does anyone know why this is happening? For me, it doesn't make sense because the MHL and OTG cable work fine separately with their own individual adapters, so I can't see why they can't be connected simultaneously. Does it have something to do with the 4.3 update?
Can anyone please shed some light on this issue?
Thank in advance

Pair the controller to your phone via SixaxisTool so that it can connect wirelessly, and then connect it (your phone) to your TV via MHL. It works for me.

Multiport Adapter

So, I've got an HDMI adapter, an Ethernet adapter and an OTG adapter, but obviously, I cant use all three at onece, and I can't charge the tablet while I'm using any of them.
Can anyone confirm if the official Samsung Multiport Adapter works with the Tab S4, because it's not listed as a compatible device.
Or, recommend a cheaper alternative that works, specifically, using all ports at once, while charging.
Thanks
It does work, on the Tab S4 page, it says "Recommend accessories for Galaxy Tab S4: Multi Port Adapter (EE-P5000B), HDMI Adapter (EE-HG950), DeX Cable (EE-I3100). Exact model number may vary by country."
What a scam to charge so much for some port extensions.
Sammy management are on crack or something o.0
Nothing cheaper?
Look for an USB C hub in Amazon or a Chinese shop. I bought this.

Hello, i have tested 2 different usb-c multiport dongels. But they dont forward enough current to charge the tab S4. Battery slowly drains when in use (dex or multiwindow) or when screen is off and tablet idle.
So far i have tested:
Eminent AB7872 USB Type-C 4K Multiport Dock
Akasa AK-CBCA01-15BK 0.15m USB C HDMI (max 2a)
Has anyone a good alternative?

In a related thread, a user says edition model number it's working with his tab 4
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-USB-C-Multi-Port-Adapter-EE-PW700BWEGUJ/dp/B01DN09RYI
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-galaxy-tabpro-s-multiport-adapter-white/5208000.p?skuId=5208000
Best Buy nearby has several in stock and will price match. No Ethernet, though. I just got my tab yesterday so all about outfitting it.
I'm likely to buy one in the morning.
I have this one and everything works fine. The hub is connected to an external Monitor (for Dex), wireless keyboard and mouse, to my Tab S4. I use it pretty much like a small dock on my desk and power delivery works fine.

I bought the Ugreen 8 in 1 multiport adapter from Ali Express. It works realy well, it has great length if you have short tablet stand. I haven't got a PD adapter for fast charging because it uses 7.5w but i don't know the Tab S4 supports Power Delivery and i have a double QC3.0 charger from Aukey but it is not charging fast so i am a bit disappointed.

TAB S6 is not able to connect to external monitor via usbc - hdmi

Hello, I own Galaxy Tab S6 WIFI, with android 12. I had some problems with connection via usbc-hdmi cable before. I had to plug the usbc at first, and secondly had to plug the hdmi into external monitor. This was the only way, how to make my tab s6 start dex with ext. monitor. But now, I am not able to connect the monitor at all. The tablet's just keep saying "USB connected"/"USB disconnected" over and over.
This message appears only if I try to connect external monitor.
Charging and data transfering are without problems.
If I try to connect S21 (exynos) with the same cable and same external monitor, the connection is established immediately.
Any ideas how to fix it?
PS: If I selected wrong thread, I am sorry. In that case I will delete this post.

Don't have such a problem with mine.
Just ordered and received today new adaptor USB-C to HDMI plus 2 m HDMI cable and I plugged my Galaxy tab S6 to an external monitor and I don't have such a problem as DEX appears immediately.
Edit : Forgot to say I also own a USB-C hub with 3 USB type A slot, 1 USB-C slot, with HDMI and VGA slots, Ethernet 1 GB so I could plug a mouse and and a keyboard and there are also working fine with my Galaxy Tab S6 DEX.
I also have an old Galaxy Note 9 and I can do wireless DEX with my external monitor with a Amazon FireTV Stick in pushing the DEX option from drop down "menu" but wireless DEX won't work with my Galaxy Tab S6.
Could probably be fixed with a next update...
For what I know wireless DEX is also working with a Galaxy Tab S7 and/or Tab S7+....

Thanks, does DeX work with hub connected to tablet? And does the hub charging your TS6 simultaneously?
That is my second problem, I am looking for a hub, that might charge tablet via USBC and share the screen at the same time. Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Unfortunately, that is due to the port being USB 2.0, not 3.0. The S6 Lite's USB C port literally doesn't have enough bandwidth to transfer video over cable.
The S21 however has a much higher bandwidth USB 3.0 port that can.
All you can do is wirelessly stream Dex/Smartview over Wifi

Hi, thank you for your answer. But i have Tab S6, not the LITE version.
I am successfully using this HDMI adaptor on my S6 which allows charging at the same time (sorry for the UK Amazon link) - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07Z8XYLKS
