SU solution for Nougat - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey I am running on the mdk bootloader and I have TWRP installed. I tried that nice rom called Optimized LineageOS-14 and it is pretty sweet. but I could not get root on that rom because SuperSu 2.79 would just not flash for me in twrp. I tried 2.52 beta but that would not let my phone boot. Any suggestions to help me find a SU manager that can work for this phone on 7.1?

I'm not sure if this will work for an Unofficial LineageOS but, the Official LineageOS website has an extras area with the addonSU for their LineageOS 14.1 releases.
https://download.lineageos.org/extras
Again, I can't guarantee that it will work for an Unofficial LOS14.1 but, you can give it a try.
Good Luck!

Nougat requires systemless root. The old SuperSU zips won't work.

In the first picture, you tired to flash SuperSU with the stock recovery. That won't work, you need a custom recovery. You then flashed an incompatible recovery. There are no custom recoveries compatible with the 3G model right now. I will be making one for the 3G model, but I'm waiting on a device to test on which will take a week or so.

Also says superSU binaries need updating but I still have all the theme's and stuff that comes from the ROM I flashed. Any suggestions about why on getting these warnings.

How can I install Costume recovery, and how can I install XPOSED for my phone?
Please help !!!!
Ask on the recovery thread, read the FAQ BEFORE ASKING ANYTHING OBVIOUS. You can't install Xposed Framework without recovery.

Being a n00b is not an excuse not to read.
I already told you that you need a working recovery. This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606
Install latest version, if you used KingRoot use the "Rooted with SuperSU" option on the installer.

INFO :- you need a Working PC for this steps and you will get a Stable Root (system-less-root)
☆you can try Kingroot to Root your J500F without PC but you can get only (Temp-root) means after you reboot the root access will gone... you have to re-root☆
Kingroot.apk
https://kingroot.net/
Advantages
Root using PC gives Stable Root
Root using KingRoot gives Temporary Root
Disadvantages
Root using PC will void your Warranty forever (knox gets tripped)
Root using KingRoot will not void your warranty (knox will stay 0x0
hope i helped you thank you!

J5 Root ?
Works on my SM-J500F - Marshmallow 6.01
I used method 2 - works great - thank you
checks out with Root Checker after second reboot
Ty for letting community know about this.
There is just one thing, guys don't use first method, never ROOT your phone from an app, because it is going to root your phone (probably) but it will install whole bunch of other **** you don't want.
Always use TWRP and flash latest SuperSU
All the best wishes.

T-Mobile 11.0.1.7.HD61CB update released! Feb 2022 security patch

New update here, but I am getting error (as phone is rooted).
I didn't find solution yet, how to update with keeping root. Didn't have time if someone else know solution please let me know!
Thank you.
Anyone would be nice enough to post a patched boot image for the new update?
It seems that not many people use this phone. They upgraded to newer models, or custom rom.
@bobimbap Doesn't stock allow what I do on CarbonROM after OTA: using Magisk to patch before reboot?

Ah yes, of course. I forgot that I'd heard people talking about needing to unroot, lock bootloader, update, unlock, reroot. Sounds like a lot of trouble. Sorry I couldn't help.
All good. I learned my lesson, never buy TMobile phone
I wish I bought global version and just put back cover from McLaren and call it good
