New to Xiaomi - Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

I had a couple of phones from different well known brands. Been disapointed couple of times. Ive decided to go in another direction. Xiaomi.
I just bought the Mi Note 2 6gb (just got shipped) and to be honest, i never been so anxious to get a phone ! Cant wait to experience MIUI and Xiaomi world. This sexy beast just looks awesome.
Been using a LG G5 for a year and its the worse phone ive had so far. Not to mention that no root is available for my model !
Anyways glad im back in the custom zone
See you all around !

The phone wont disappoint, it's by far the best phone i've ever had.

I had that feeling when ordering it xD ill post my impressions upon receiving.
Tx for the feedback

The same for me. The first that I really like and that I keep for more than 3 months.
Yet I have had smartphones (iphone, nexus5, oneplus2, leeco x820, leeco x720, honor7). But xiaomi is really what I was looking for both in a smartphone and in rom. The rom is really stable, smooth with full of option. Mi note 2 is gorgeous in its design.
Strongly MIUI9 with its lot of newness.

Just got it. Il really have to Say this phone impresses me a lot.
One thing. I dont seem to catch lte. Only shows 4g and sometimes H+. APN settings is as it should be. I dont get it

Thinking about selling My Note

I thinking about selling my note because I think this phone is going to end up like the att skyrocket and barely have any devolpment. I know the art note is really new but I'm really missing my galaxy s2 and all the development for the phone. Do you think there alot of devolpers out there who actually are interested in this phone and the hardware. I see alot of people trying to develop stuff for the phone and they don't even have the att galaxy note. I'm thankful for all the developers we have but I just see this phone getting alot of roms expescially ice cream sandwich roms.

Although this is my first Android phone, I am completely happy with the current Gingerbread experience. I didn't buy the phone for GB or ICS, and although ICS would be much nicer, I bought the phone for the niche hardware factor. If you'd like to go back to your old phone, do it. I hope you're happy with your decision. If you decide to stay, good for you as well. No one here, myself included, will try to convince you to stay on the Note. It's your decision, just do what you want.
Here's a quick tip: Flip a coin (with like heads for stay, tails for leave) and in the air you'll know what side you want. I forget where I learned that.
I love the Note and could never go back to a Galaxy SII personally.
How about getting the international version? Sure you only get Mini 4G but there is a lot more dev over there and better battery life . Persoanlly I am pretty happy with the note and of the couple of ROMs we have for our AT&T version I plan to keep going with this bad boy. My wife has the GSII and when I use her phone I have no regrets sticking with my note.

Don't get me wrong I love this phone but I wish it was a little quicker and this is my second note because the first one was really laggy and froze all the time but the speaker on that phone was really loud when watching videos on YouTube now my new one is faster but the speaker is very low and I took it to att and they said it was fine and couldn't give me another one for that reason.

Hrmmm...having both the Skyrocket and the Note and comparing the levels of development I can't really agree with your statement...There is plenty of active development on the Skyrocket, and it seems to be growing every week. It took about 3 months for things to really pick up over there, I would expect the same with the Note
I could see your statement being true of say the LG Nitro...there just isn't much going on with that phone.
In the end if that is your only hang up (wanting more dev) then yeah I would say sell and get an international version, or a GS2...the issue there is how much longer do you think those devs will stick around? Within this year many of them will move on to the next great thing

Buyers remorse period if your under your 30 days. they have to replace it.
Galaxy S - took a few months to get going
Infuse - took a few months to get going
Skyrocket - took a few months to get going
Note... I'm guessing the same pattern will apply
In the end, it's all up to the owner of the phone what he/she wants to do. I use my Note for my personal business phone and get a lot of use out of it. It's great for what I do and saved me from having to get a 7" tablet. I had the Skyrocket and absolutely loved that phone. My wife ordered the Note for my valentines gift and I gave her the Skyrocket (finally got her off the iCrap) - she's wanting a new ROM on hers now. If you like the Note, stick it out. At the very worst, you'll get a ICS eventually. If all you really want is ICS, then you may want to sell it off and save the cash for the GS3.
If you are selling it, how much you want for it?
I'm think about not selling my note..........

Oh yeah.......NO WAY IN HECK I'M SELLING!
I've considered selling mine as well... but only to fund the purchase of the international model. I love this device, but the improved speeds of the unlocked model are calling me. If they could fix the lag, I wouldn't even have considered it.
Naturally its your choice - do what works best for you!

Ive thought about doing the same exact thing to go for the international version. I bought mine outright for $650 from AT&T being my area is appose to be getting LTE in June. But mine runs just fine on 3G, so i dunno. Could my Note be a tad faster? Sure but its deff not slow. So i dunno. I already lost $35 on a re-stocking fee for exchanging my White Note in for a Black one lol.
ive thought about selling my Rogers Note to buy the unlocked one also. It already has ics roms.
but Toronto has LTE pretty much everywhere i go and I LOVE the speeds. I dont know what to do. I mean ICS will EVENTUALY come to i717 but N7000 will never do LTE
The first month or owning a phone is usually people who either want the phone really bad or people who want to be bleeding edge and usually dump the phone prematurely.
Most people are either waiting for the price to come down used or are waiting for their upgrade. Devs will come with time, it seems 2 months is pretty normal for things to take off.

Why do i read nothing but people saying the Note is laggy and they think no one is going to support it. Its been out not even a month. I came from the iPhone 4s which is always smooth plenty of support and quality games. I've used the gs2 for awhile and i gotta say this phone is pretty beastly. I'm on saurom with 1.83 overclock and i don't notice lag at all after its fully booted. After i got everything where i wanted it i don't miss any other phone ever and playing emulators even with a touch screen is a delight. i would neverswitch back at this point. Just for the fact i can't take a smaller phone seriously now. The international version sounds great but not for the price. This phone is more then enough for me. My only complaint is the screen gets dusty with this dumb speck case lol.

Well, because there is Lag. I am running the same setup on my GSII Epic Touch and my Note and even over clocked the Note is slower than the Touch. I hate that when I have 6 tabs loaded in Dolphin it often runs out of memory on my note and the scrolling is slow and the tabs don't always preload. Though it is not enough to say I would return it, it is enough to say "ARGH why the lag!".
So in answer to the OP, wait for your 29 days then decide. If you want to wait past your 30 days to see what the chefs come up with and end up not liking the options then you can always sell it and move to a phone that you think has better dev options.
-
Ok sorry i don't notice any but i also have no need for six tabs to be open. Do what you think is gonna benefit in the long run. this is my phone for the next two years in fourteen days our so after my thirty day and thus far i have been given no reason to return it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
When you guys say lag, are you meaning like you can count outloud "one one thousand" and it's taken maybe that long or half that long to open an application compared to X other phone?
I mean, I dunno. I'm not sitting here with three phones at the same time comparing each of them to each other. I came from a blackberry to a Captivate to an Inspire to a Thrill...those were laggy phones.
My buddy has a microwave that has higher watts. He was bragging about how much faster he could microwave burritos. I guess the 30 seconds he gets his food faster than me is a big deal to him. I suppose each of us puts importance in different things.
Now that i think about it my microwaves been a little laggy lately stuff is always cold. That's what i was understanding from all this myself. Why are benchmarks higher on the note overall if a sg2 is faster.or am i wrong?
Sent from my oversized communication device.
There not higher on the note my gs2 was way faster the 220gpu in the note sucks.

Try coming from the streak where there was one person that was developing for it. I am happy that there is alot more for the note then there was for the streak. I can't wait till there are more roms to flash

I must say I regret buying the G2

Definately not my favorite phone I ever owned that'd be the Nexus 4 <3. I bought the phone back in October at T-Mobile and was deciding between a S4/G2/One M7/iPhone 5s I wanted a note 3 but they were out of stock so I decided to go with G2 because I read about how great it was and the battery life and all that and its superior to s4 and one .. So my first 2 weeks with the phone were good I guess I did notice a few problems with camera But I don't use it much so I was fine with it.. Later on it fixed itself so camera worked great .. Later on in January I decided with my friend that we should root and get custom ROM on my g2 since he knws how to root and rooted my Nexus 4 easily before I agreed ... That same day my phone got bricked all thanks to TWRP and my friend could not do anything so I tried phone stores and nobody fixed it finally tmobile was nice enough to give me a replacement .. I didn't say it was rooted they just took it. I was sent a replacement device and it worked fine but the screen flickered so I also took back that one and got my 3rd G2 after that . I have had my 3rd G2 ever since and I have kitkat on it .. After KK the phone lags on all games like temple run or subway surfers and I tried a lot of ways to fix it like hidden menu etc but the phone plays games like GTA SA without a problem .. Funny right .. the phone is just so problamatic and I regret it so much .. Soon I'm gonna bring it down to JellyBean because I feel like they're won't be that much problems with it .. I'm never buying a LG phone again .. Unless its a Nexus .. Gonna stick with iPhones and HTC from now .. My next phone is either Nexus 6 or iPhone 6 maybe a One M8..
In before the lock ?

You have brought nothing useful to society bye.
Let's just get one thing straight. Bricking your phone was neither LG's, nor TWRP's fault. It was your own, maybe your friends but, likely due to your affinity for iPhone's, it was your own fault.

Yes it might have been my friends fault since he did the whole process but I'm still disappointed with this phone either way as stated with my the other problems .. Also I used to hate iphones but now I actually like them .. It seems like they just work without any issues .. At least I can enjoy using my nexus 7 without any issues

Well that's the thing. Android is a developer based OS. It was made to be tinkered with and the time and dedication that it takes is not for everyone. Some prefer their phone to just work and there is the iPhone for that. Get the device that does what you need. Remember they are tools.

G2 just doesent work .. Atleast the D801 one .. I chose to go with android because my friends had android and they were geeks .. I liked how you could customize everything and that they were bigger so I naturally went with android and my first 2 android phones the One X and Nexus 4 were both really nice and worked.. I'm just upset with LG for not caring to fix these issues as I see multiple people with similar problems as me on xda too .. Yet it looks like they are only able to be solved with root .. Secret menu doesn't fix it for me. So I'm probably gonna buy the iPhone 6 when it comes out even one of my geeky friends is starting to like iphones after using 1
we wish you and your future iphone all the happiness
To the OP, I get no lag in games, either you installed some bad apps or maybe some infected pirated apps.
My sister an iPhone user with no tech background, she just switched to the G2 and likes it.
The flicker issue was fixed in an update. Every phone company has issues with their devices. Apple had some updates where battery life sucked for example and it took them a while to update. You cant blame LG for your TWRP brick (I used it and had no problem), thats a risk you knowingly took, it applies to Apple or any other OEM as well.
Just because you had problems installing a custom ROM doesn't make LG or any other OEM bad, they intend you to use their device as is. You screw with it, its your fault.
Honestly I can understand your frustration but its also partly your fault, I certainly hope you enjoy whichever new device you get.
Asta lavista OP..
And ps- use paragraphs next time
Ewww don't mention iPhone's here, you sick sick man. But seriously I have never had a problem with mine and it is by far the best phone I have ever had, and I have had many. I also managed to get my friend to get rid of her iPhone due to the fact she was having many problems with it, I told her to get the G2, she is very impressed and couldn't be happier. Now all she does is mocks iPhone's, just how it should be .

Kinda funny. You must be the unluckiest G2 buyer in the world. And I had a Nexus 4 too before G2. But you just cannot compare rooting and flashing a nexus with G2. It's a completely different story. You practicaly cannot brick a nexus but you can a G2 and pretty easily if you don't know exactly what you are doing. Imho those replacement phones are probably faulty because they are .... a replacement. My G2 is running stock KK and it's a beast of a phone.
Carry right along.

G2 better than S5,HTC one, iphone 5s
OP..... I fail to understand how you cannot be happy with the G2. I have a s5, HTC one and an iphone5s. HTC and G2 was given by my employer. I bought iphone 5s.Believe me I speak from personal experience, the g2 is my favorite. I regret buying iphone 5. its worthless piece of junk even though i purchased it.
The HTC one is an ok ok phone as I dont like the ui and i thought the camera was better than the one on stock g2. Battery of htc one is outrightly bad. The only place where HTC rocks is speaker output. No one can beat it I agree.
then i was suggested to root the g2 and flash xdabbebs 2.2 version. My my, now the camera can outperform even a dslr man. Clarity, color reproduction, detail, vivid colors...I cant stop. Its absolutely stunning...After rooting my battery lasts over 2 days and the ui is stunning..... I couldnt find a better phone .....
The s5 is nothing better than a piece of junk....the phone even though has 2gb ram, has a substandard processor as against the g2's terrific snapdragon. Touchwizui is pathetic and slows the phone over a period of time as it is basically very resources eater. Sammy launched s5 in India with a degraded processor. The camera is ok ok., Doesnt come any closer to the one on g2.
Coming to sound quality, with the latest 20b indian update, hissing sound has gone, knock code fully embedded and working great, Install viper4 android and the phone will blow you away.
Summing it up, the g2 rocks above all.....I am never departing with this phone...not to forget, g2 has best android dev, in comparison to s5 and htc one, lots of mods and variety of stable roms....ohhhh the battery is muuuaaahhh.:highfive:
This kind of threads are often responsible for the starting of a flame war. Some people will agree with the OP, some will not. But there's no purpose of this thread, neither this thread will be quite and free of trouble If it remains. That's why Thread is Closed..

My personal experience..

A couple weeks ago I was unsure if I would buy the G3 or the M8. I decided to go with the G3 and even while waiting for it to arrive I was still concerned about all the Not so good things I've been reading. After a day and a half with it, I'm proud to say that I haven't had any of the issues that some have reported. I feel bad about those who have had issues because this is a wonderful device! My main concern was the heating up but have not experienced that. It did get slightly warm when I was setting everything up and playing with the device but nothing out of the ordinary. There is an occasional stutter here and there but no terrible lag like some have experienced. I did turn off the animations however..for the usage I've given it so far it's performed beautifully. Battery seems adequate but still early to tell. I also get lte like 95% of the time. A huge plus because my Evo lte would only seem to get 3g. I've also kept it stock for now... I'm pretty sure there are a lot of you out there who are in the same boat I was in... I absolutely recommend this phone. Unless you somehow get your hands on a defective unit, you will not be disappointed with purchasing the LG G3. Hope my review helps some of you and sorry if this is not the correct thread for this..

I came from the m8. It's a bad ass phone but I'm still 100% happy getting this.
I have always been a Samsung person, but I decided to try the G3 and am completely happy as can be with this phone.
I'm also happy with mine. I'm a big Samsung guy but I decided to take a chance on the G3 and I don't regret it one bit. Interestingly, I originally bought an AT&T variant, but last week I saw an ad on Craigslist where a guy was looking to do an even swap, his Sprint G3 for an AT&T model. I have been keeping an active Sprint SIM in my Nexus 5 for fun since they're testing Spark in my market.
Long story short, I bit on the guy's offer and went all in with Sprint. Since I'm going to buy a Note 4 next month when it launches, I figure I have nothing to lose by trying Sprint for a month as a daily driver. If I end up hating it, I can always go back to AT&T when I buy the Note 4.
For now, though, I'm rocking that Sprint G3 on the new $60 unlimited plan and so far, so good. ?
Good to hear it! I also have not experienced 90% of the issues that others are reporting. Smooth sailing here. Welcome to the community

how is this phone?

i have a zte grand x max+ now but who knows itf it will ever get root, so on this phone how is speaker quality is it loud?and the screen is it bright? and is the phone fluid opening and closing apps etc, after you root it to do some tweaks? thanks
as near as i can tell this would be superior to my Zte Grand x max+, they seem to be same both 720p display, same cpu&gpu, but the things that seem to me off hand would make it better is cpu is 1.2 on my Zte, and 1.6 on this, and this is rootable, but im still looking for opinions from owners of this phone
Phone is amazing. I am rooted with a bunch of xposed modules installed. No issues at all. Fast and smooth operation, and network speeds on MetroPCS are super-fast. I was skeptical about getting this phone, but I am super happy with it. Of course, the battery life is just insane. I don't use the speakerphone much, but when I do, it is plenty loud for me. The screen is beautiful as well. You can always get it from Amazon, they have a great return policy.
I second the suggestion of buying this from Amazon. That's what I did and my 30 day return window is almost up. But I am keeping this phone. I am also rooted and have Nova installed as well. The battery life just blows your mind. I do one long charge on the weekend and that's it. Maybe ten or twenty minutes charges once in a while.
Does it get pretty good cell signal? I'm looking to replace a Galaxy Note 2, which I recently dropped and busted. :crying:
I've been a Samsung user for a few years, but my Note 2 got crappy cell signal compared to the S3 that I replaced (on AT&T, btw, same number and sim card). I was looking at a used Note 4, but don't really feel like dishing out >$500 on a decent used one, and you still can't root the AT&T/Verizon versions, as far as I know. I know you can root the T-Mobile version, but still not too interested in spending the big bucks.
This one's been getting pretty decent reviews for a mid-tier phone, and I'm a fan of big screens (I like to read/watch videos a lot). This one looks like it would fit the bill. I think I just read that Huawei is going to release Android L (Lollipop?) some time in the first half of this year, so that's a plus.

Well, that gives me hope. I'm pretty sure my signal problems at home were phone related. Got decent signal on AT&T with my Galaxy S3 (which I still have), but when I switched to a Note 2, signal went down the toilet. And I would lose signal with regularity in any big box store (Walmart, Target, etc).
Anyway, ordered! I'm hoping some custom roms become available; I'm used to the plethora of choices available for the Samsung phones, hope I can play around with this one a bit.

Love it! I'm in school full-time and I don't have time to worry about the battery percentage, bringing chargers, finding outlets, etc. I need a phone that does everything I ask of it and lasts long as well. As for the specs, yes they aren't great, but it's still snappy and responsive. Almost on par with my sister's Nexus 5. Occasionally there are dropped frames or app crashes, but that's sadly typical of Android. Sometimes I get a bit annoyed with the size of the phone but that only happens when I wear slim or skinny jeans. No, I'm not worried about bending it!
The only real problem I have is with the software. Like I said, I just need a phone that works, and it does, but EMUI doesn't look nice. I could deal with it but the dreams of getting CM11 or CM12 on this make me a bit impatient.

We have a dev working on CM11 AND CM12, but he's been busy with work (*cough* Cyanogen) so there hasn't been progress lately. Also, thanks for reminding me about those big stores. I forgot, I DO lose signal in places like BJ's. I always thought it was because of the building itself though.

It is the building, also - those buildings have a lot of infrastructure between your phone and the cell towers, but some phones have better antennas than others. For example, my wife has an iPhone 5, and she gets a signal in them, while I'm staring at a crossed out circle for my signal indicator. And I don't remember completely losing signal with my S3 as I did with my Note 2, although I would lose a bar or two. I'm back using my S3 right now, since my Note 2 went tits up - I'll check it out next time I'm out and about.

Yeah, the UI is the main thing that had me hesitating. All of the reviews I've read about it list it as a negative - I know I can always install a different launcher, but those sometimes come with their own problems. I think the Android L release is supposed come with the 3.0 version of the UI. I haven't read much about it yet, but I'm hoping it's better than the current version. And, of course, I'll be a happy camper when CM11 or CM12 is released! Not too concerned about it in the interim, though, as I don't tend to get too crazy with the UI customizations.

Yeah, it's been done. Try the links below - just be sure to make a nandroid backup of your stock rom before making any changes...Android L is supposed be released sometime in the next few months. Pretty sure you'll need the stock rom for OTA.

No, just ordered one a couple of days ago from Ebay - should arrive this week sometime. I wanted something with a large screen, but wasn't interested in paying >$500 for a used Galaxy Note 4. The price point on this is great, and has a lot of decent features. I was looking at the OnePlus One, but it doesn't have expandable memory, something that's a must-have for me.
BTW, you'll probably need ADB and Fastboot - check out the link below:

you like the phone? have you rooted yet?

Considering buying this phone but I have a few questions.

I had previously bought an AT&T version of this phone, and I regretted it because there were SO many problems. The battery life, the fact that it couldn't be rooted, the absurd amount of bloatware, I HATED IT. So I'm switching to the Tmobile version, because I am with Tmobile. So questions, here we go.
Question 1: Is the battery life really crappy aswell?
Question 2: Is it rootable, or still encrypted to the point that not even GOD can decrypt it?
Question 3: is the development of this phone alive?
Question 4: Can you put AOSP roms on it, or just touchwiz?
Thank you for reading, and (hopefully) answering this questions

I just bought a used SM-G900T and am using it on TMobile. I get good to great signal on the network.
1. I'm getting around 36 hours battery life, with 5-6 hours screen-on-time each day. On stock Marshmallow 6.0.1
3. Word is that there are 4-5 devs working on CM14 for this phone.
You didn't name a single new phone as an alternative. You didn't ask or take into account OPs usage requirements either. I got the S5 because I still want SD card and removable battery. The only new phone like that is the G5, which I personally don't like or trust. Certainly not for $500.
I'm loving the S5. Performance, in my experience, is still perfectly fast and smooth.

1. You're one of few
3. I could care less about CM
Why make a suggestion? When i dont know his price range or anything else. I'm sure he's wise enough to find a device he likes in his price range.
Reason I said look into another device? The device is over 2 years old almost 2 1/2. It's outdated. Updates are going to stop. There's mid range phones that keep up and/or beat it. Considering he's on xda, he probably likes development. Which many devs have jumped ship and moved on and it's only going to continue. Far better options out there for the price and no where near 2 1/2 years old.
