Intune company portal for email and work calender - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone had to use intune company portal on their android devices?
My work is requiring that we download this program to our phones in order to read email and see our calendar.
I really don't care about the email but I want to can be able to read my schedule/calendar.
This program encrypts the phone, and I am told that I won't be able to take screen shots, they have access to all of my files and they can wipe my phone whenever they want.
I also have to use a digital password which is a pain because I want to use my thumbprint.
Does anyone know how I can get my calendar without having to download this cumbersome program? Thanks!
Mike

The digital passwords aspect is not accurate. We had this rolled out, and I can still use my fingerprint. Calendar though is a pain. For a short while, the Samsung Email app worked with the corporate email outside of the Company Portal space, but it has now stopped working. This is very frustrating.

Using the Hero with a Google apps account??

Hi everyone,
New to the forum... My Hero's on it's way so I've been reading about rooting, etc, on this great forum I found . Never had an HTC before so not sure I really know what rooting is, but I'll soon give it a go and bust the phone or end up being able to do bluetooth file transfer!
Now to my question! I have my email all through my own domain, but run by/hosted by Google using google apps.
So I use a Googlemail webmail interface to collect my emails, but access it through mail.mydomain.com and get emails to [email protected] . My calendar works similarly.
Will this work with all the built in functionality of the Hero that ties in to Gmail accounts? Do I need to do a hack to do this, or will it work out of the box?
Thanks,
James
I use apps for domains too. Works perfectly except for buying software from the Market - had to open another account for that annoyingly.
Well, I've just recieved my Hero, and under my Google account, I entered my Google apps details, eg,
[email protected] and my relevant password. No luck It didn't recognise it. Off to do a bit of googling on the subject now, but any help on how to get it to sync with a Google Apps for Domains account greatly appreciated...
I can definitely guarantee you that it works. I use my domain with Google Apps for Domains, and the only thing that didn't work was paid apps on the market - even then, it knew that this was because I had an apps account and it asked me for a "normal" gmail account and would allow me to buy apps.
I suggest a full reset may be in order.
Regards,
Dave
Cheers
I just tried a hard reset and this time it worked when I entered the details as I booted up
Not sure if it's relevant but this is the "brown" HTV Hero from www.mobiles.co.uk
Loving the phone so far, really pleased it works with domains as that would have been a deal breaker!
Did I understand right, that the Hero asked for a normal gMail-Account in addition to the gApps-Account, if you want to buy software from the marketplace?
Or do I have to completely change to a normal gMail-Account if I want to buy something?
I'd like to keep my gApps-Account and have no problem to open an additinal gMail-Acc just for Marketplace.

Yes, this is correct. You still sign into the market using your gApps-Account, but you can't link a credit card to that account in the Market. In this case, all it does is asks you to authenticate yourself with a regular gMail account when checking out - all your apps are still linked in the Market to your regular gApps account.

Vulberable to open WIFI?

I was at a hotel on the weekend. I connected to the room specific wifi, and when I went to a webpage I had to put a password in. When I got back home today, I noticed I had sent viruses to all my contacts through my hotmail email.
Is there anything I should change on my gtab or bank accounts?
At a Minimum
Did you log into Hotmail while you were there?
I would suggest changing the password on your hotmail account at a minimum, and doing the same for your banks would probably be a good idea too.
Sounds like someone at/near the hotel may have used firesheep or a similar application to sniff your traffic. There are other possibilities, but I think that's the most likely.

Yeah. I would change all my passwords.
And keep an eye on your credit card statements.
And, don't log in to anything you care about via open wifi. On any device. Frankly, I don't trust Android, or even iOS (or Windows, for that matter) as a platform for doing financial transactions, but then I am both paranoid and nearly always within easy reach of more secure desktop environments...
Failing that, be sure to hand your wallet to the next random person you pass on the street

Android Phone safety against theft/snatch/loss

Hello,
I am sure there are numerous applications for GPS tracking and remote controlling/wiping all the data and settings pattern/numeric access codes for your mobiles.
Problem is that executing these safety measures are somehow dependent on certain other factors and can have successful or unsuccessful consequences.
I am thinking of anything more basic and hassle free way of ensuring that even in worst condition I can have certain peace of mind that my critical gmail account data would not be accessed for unauthorized use. For example when it was unlocked for use and meanwhile it was lost or snatched how can I be sure that my google account information specifically gmail/maps are safe. I know I can change the password by reaching to a nearby PC, but that is not always a possibility.
I have got my Samsung Galaxy S2 for more than a month and just figuring out a safe way before putting it in active use.
An idea which I am thinking of is to have another Gmail account specifically for use with Android Phone, and import/export the actual "Contacts" only to this new email account. Since contacts are the most frequently used item, they would be in sync with the new email account, any delta changes would have to be replicated to your original gmail account as well.
I dont use Picasa, so it is of no importance to me to sync the pictures with picasa account.
For access to my actual gmail and other emails (like work email) I can use an add on email android applications like K9-Mail to configure the gmail as IMAP. To get access to this email program I can install any application which can password protect the access to applications and can reactivate the password after any time of inactivity. I dont know whether in such case would I get popup in the notification bar for new emails or not.
The only two most used applications now left are
- Maps and Latitude
- Google Plus
Now both of them need to be used with my actual gmail account, since all contacts and connection are related to my actual identity on google.
So i need to know that is it possible to use one gmail (fake/secondary) account on android phone just for syncing contacts and use another actual (primary/original) account for logging in the official google maps and google plus applications. I know even in this case the password needs to be changed in case of a mishap, however I can be a bit satisfied that all critical data in the email storage is safe.
I just need your opinions and suggestion on the mentioned procedure, or is there any other good and recommended practice for getting multiple accounts configured on Android Phone and selectively use the google accounts for different applications.
Thanks for your inputs.
Hmm...seems like everyone is so sure of the safety of their handset, no one even gives a s*** to think about the worst-case scenario of losing a device.
Cheers...hope everyone retains the droid for life..

Not able to set up my corporate email due to table's limitations..

I was not able to configure my work email on my prime. the work server requires davice and storage encription and while this is not a problem with the tablet since it can be encrypted. my problem is that my work email server also requires to become remote device administrator and the ability to wipe my data remotly and that is a feature thet prime does not support.
is there a work around this issue? or is it the fact that this table is only wi-fi and therefore there would be no real way to remote wipe unless is on some kind of wi-fi?
is this a PRIME issue specifically or an Android issue? have you had this successfully setup on another android device.
i personally use Touchdown for my corporate email. based on the features i've read, it supports remote wiping, but doesn't mention remote administration.

I have a samsung galaxy phone and that works fine with my email. However I went to best buy and I tried to setup my email on two diferent tablets and i noticed that the one table that allows remote wipe would work fine but the asus which it does not support remote control or wipe would failed with a message stating that there are some security server that my exchange requires that are not supported by that android device.
We use Lotus Notes, IBM released what they call Lotus Traveler for Android and iOS and both require a security admin enabled that can wipe the devices. I installed in on both my phone (Amaze) & Prime with no problems. You may need to enable the pin code or security code first.

everything. calender, contacts, mail. it's a very serious and very impressive application. my issue with the stock email application is that my inbox is broken down into mutliple folders. the stock email can't view mail coming into those various folders (i have rules). on the stock email app i'd have to change to that folder.
touchdown shows all mail from all folders in one screen. you can select which folders to sync as well. it has out of office internal and externals that you can setup.
you get a 30-day trial so just give it a shot. the full license is $20.
oh man that sounds great, i guess is time for me to go back to Best buy and pickup my Prime again. I was so upset over this email crap that I returned it just a few hours after getting it.
thanks for the info.

well i'm not saying that the touchdown will fix your issues with the prime. i'm just saying that the touchdown app is a good one to try. our email service provider is usa.net running exchange 2007 and the configuration is fairly quick.

Gmail Issue

For starters, this is a stock maxx device, had it since the release.
I go to Ashland University in Ashland Ohio and we use @ashland.edu gmail accounts. Our 'oh so wonderful' IT department has deemed that incoming freshmen are too stupid to remember multiple passwords for various logins across campus so they set up this "Active Directory" system in which you create a master password and its changes all passwords across all logins. So I changed my password today using the AD system...
..only to find it also affected my gmail. Now, I am unable to sync my emails to my phone through the gmail app. I cannot download anything in the marketplace, and I get an annoying popup about google talk failing to authenticate.
I've read that you should get a popup that allows you to change the password on your device via the market or the gmail app.. I've had neither. Unfortunately this is my primary account as well so I can't just delete it and re add it.
Does anyone have any work around so I don't have to wipe my phone? I'd really hate to lose everything that I can't backup via my SD card and all of my custom made widgets and what not. I figured it might have to do with the fact my gmail was an @ashland.edu instead of a @gmail.com
Thanks.
