Don't know if anyone else has played with it, but if i need a FAST charge and i can afford to do it, i use setcpu to turn the max CPU as low as it will go, which is 216mhz and let the phone charge.
I am using Battery Circle on the stock moto ROM with as much blur removed as i can, and if i let it sit with this CPU speed forced, i will see it go from 20-80% in as little as an HOUR...
restarting the phone with the battery bug can get me even higher, maybe upper 80% on the battery.
Try it, it really works! I have played with a profile that sets it as soon as the charger is plugged in to around 400mhz but the phone i find lags and it is hard to use, so i just plug, launch the setcpu app and crank down to 216hz
when i am done i unlock the phone, and put the speed back to where ever i need it to be.
Wouldn't powering down the phone while charging achieve the same results?
I've had a lot of problems with cranking the cpu speed down to the minimum -- a lot of laggy performance and some lockups that required a battery yank. In fact I use setcpu to force the minimum speed on my phone to 456 MHz to avoid any such problems.

It really depends on a few things.
Your launcher, what the phone is trying to do while idle, etc.
Example, i find that if i have a lockscreen pattern that needs to be drawn i will have to be patient with it.
and obviously powering down the phone works.
It also makes it so your calls go straight to voicemail and you miss all sms messages.
I use my phone for business and i cannot have that problem, so long as i use fast reboot to "wipe" things out once in a while nothing bothers me putting the speed down.
You can charge lower, around 500mhz.. it also helps.
I think it has to do with the voltage being used to power the CPU being very low that helps it charge so much faster.
yesterday I had 2 blackouts. I did not much things, some photos, facebook and whatsapp.
But anytime when I want to use it, screen stayed black and SGS2 did not answer any longer. Also it seems to be very hot on the rear. After removing battery and switching on again, I mention that there was a big battery drain. These two things (hot back side and high battery drain) sounds to me that there was maybe one process which "killed" the system. I recognize this since I have JB ROMs on my phone, that my phone don't react sometimes, becomes very hot and had a big battery drain after switching it on again after having removed the battery.
Is there any debug possibility to see wich processes are running and might cause this issue?
I also sometimes have this problem. This even happened on ICS (can't remember for GB).
maybe it is also a kind of memory shortage?
Do you have the same behaviour? Hot back and battery lost after you have hard reset your phone by removing the battery?
I read that JB is running out of memory from time to time.
I now use Smart RAM Booster to see if this maybe the reason for our "crashes".
Nevertheless it would be great if someone could tell how to log CPU, top10 processes and memory to see if there is anything which causes those lags.
changed kernel to Dori 9.33. I hope this will fix my SoDs
Hi, i've had the c5 ultra for a couple of months and one of the biggest issues is that the phone lags and becomes really slow when it reaches 15% or below. when i see the 15% warning sign, it starts to lag. heavy games are not playable that i can play normally and phone lags in general, between app drawer and swiping etc. is anyone facing a similar problem? i thought this would get fixed in the new 5.1 update, but this issue is still present.
It's Sony's battery save feature as far as my guess goes..
Same here. When battery reaches 15% or lower it lags even when going through the menu or doing relatively nothing...
Hopefully it's fixed in Marshmallow!

not sure if it's battery save feature because i don't use stamina mode.

Maybe it's because of the modified cpu governor on our phone, with a profile trigger set to the battery level.. Also i don't get 100% performance from this phone as asphalt 8 lags even though the phone resolution is changed and the governor is set to performance mode with the cpu clock rates locked to 1.7ghz
Any guesses?
Hi guys, this is something that keeps me up at night. The recent software update was supposed to make performance of the Moto Z better, and in actual daily usage I find nothing to complain about, but when it comes to benchmarks it's a whole different story, I have the uk version by the way. To be frank, I used to get about 129 000 in antutu, which is pretty low to start with, and now it's down to 126 000, geekbench is lower than you would expect from this phone too, at about 1350 single core and 3810 multicore. So basically I started this thread as a place where we could share our benchmark results and discuss them, because I have a feeling I just got an unlucky unit, because it also gets real hot real fast (up to 60 degrees celcium), and I can't make it last for more that 4 hours of screen on time, and I'm really not a heavy user. I just feel strange about this phone, because I love everything else about it, and it’s good that I do, because resale value on these things is beyond awful, tried to sell it for 500 bucks for months with no success.
Benchmarks mean abso-farking-lutly nothing. If they are keeping you up any night, you have a mental issue. I suggest you see a shrink.

Well, there is no reason to be so toxic my friend, my main concern is that I may be the only one here with such a low score, and since the score got even lower after some time that could mean I may have a defective device, and that would be a real problem to keep me up at night.
I don't think there's a problem with your unit, 4 hours screen on time sounds normal without the battery mod on. That drop in benchmark score isn't very significant unless it continues to drop dramatically. I have the UK model too, and it is underclocked by default to 1.8GHz. You could try the Turbo Z kernel to improve it
Also mine gets really hot fast when using Daydream VR or anything intensive but 60 °C isn't dangerous for the SD820. (You could check battery use in settings incase something is keeping your phone awake.)
Geekbench 4:
Single core 1369
Multi core 3779
Seems benchmarks are pretty similar. I'm on rooted Android N but stock kernel so same as yours.

The only benchmark that matters is the one between your ears. And according to you, it passed.

Thank you for your comforting and friendly reply, in battery settings Android OS, Android system, and phone idle are on top when I'm not using the phone actively, I've had laughable results sometimes, like yesterday I had 30 percent battery left with only about an hour of screen on time, again no gaming involved, but this usually happens when I'm moving around, if I stay at home and nothing happens to the phone it usually won't drain battery like that. I think the reason the phone gets hot easily is obviously because of how thin it is, for example, when I keep it in the pocket it's just as hot as my body tempreture, since it just absorbs heat that easily, but has a hard time getting rid of it.

You're welcome. If you click on the graph you can see the awake time too, lately something has been keeping mine awake and draining the battery too. Not sure what it is yet, but if yours is getting really bad screen on time it could be similar. Likely an app running in the background keeping the phone awake which would heat it up more and drain the battery. There are wake lock detection apps that claim to be able to tell you which is causing this.
As you can see it's awake for long periods of time when the screen is off, and it really shouldn't be. Hope this helps :good:
Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I'm no gamer, but I didn't faced any heating issues so far.
Maybe I can't speak about heat as I used to use a galaxy S4 exynos (it's a portable cooker in case you don't know, easily reaching 96°c when just browsing on battery), this never heated, the temperature is about 45°c and it never felt uncomfortable hot, actually it never felt hot even in high external temperatures, I don't game on my phone, also I don't do highly demanding tasks, but I guess this phone can stand very well against whatever demanding task you want..
Ya very less heating in rn4
This phone is cool as... Hm, how to explain this.
Imagine hell.
Now imagine it has frozen.
That's the heat level of RN4. Snapdragon 625 does it job.
My phones been fine, up until this last few weeks...
Where I can't hold a charge for more than half a day... And even running phone a USB socket on the computer, the phone still discharges faster than it can charge. Battery getting hot too... I've tried looking to a culprit app that might be churning the cpu. But even process Explorer isn't showing high cpu use from any given app.
The battery app which shows what apps drain most doesn't seem to show it either.
Really worried and nearly giving up. Might do my first factory reset in the 2 years I had this phone. Maybe time to root it and install another rom, Any suggestions?

Just trying to comfort you - you are not alone!
First, it's my secondary phone and I use it only when I travel. So not sure since when that happens. Maybe since a week or so.
Now I can lose like 30% in one hour, and the phone gets really hot. I used the last 2 days. Example, this morning it had 100% after overnight charging. I went for breakfast and lost 30% in one hour (rarely use the phone when I was out).
Then I charge a little in the car, phone went went from 58% to 64%. Then for no reason battery life was normal again and by the end of today I had about 20% - and then suddenly withing 20 Minutes it went dark.
I have the phone for about 2 years, this problem is very new.
What I try right now after reading stuff on the internet, so it must be true:
Remove all updates to Google Duo (this app can't be removed) and disable the Auto-Update for it in the PlayStore. Lets see..... (it's an app I never used, had to lookup what it actually is). Did that 15 Minutes ago and phone is already much cooler.
Ok uninstalled updates to duo and blocked auto update in playstore... ill see if that helps... Thanks for the tip
I must admit though, this had made me consider getting a new phone... but I dont really want to the phones good (when its working right) does all i need i to do.... Sure newer phones are a tad flashier but not enough to make me jump to get a new one.
Wow, That appears to have worked..... I mean its not really long enough yet to tell but it does appear to have stopped the fast draining and heat... At least for the first few hours....
Thanks
So if it really is duo causing this battery drain, why do no battery analysers seem to show that?
And is it doing it to all smart phone with duo and I guess it's latest patch installed?
Has duo been spying on us? Has it been running the camera and watching us while we sat on the loo, which I'm soooooo currently not doing..........
Thanks! The recent heat issue after an update had me thinking i need a new phone. I really like this phone, its lasted me by far the longest, and best run times of all I have ever had. I was worried about fire, did a full factory reset with no installed apps, but heat was still there. I removed updates to Google Duo, and stopped any future updates as listed above, and its running cool and clean again.
Once again thanks for this post!
Yep can confirm now after a few days... no heat no fast draining... Google Duo was the culprit... is it a but that just affected mediatek cpus? Or do all android phones suffer this bug? is anyones heads rolling at google for this farce?
ITs fine and good...... no options.
While charging and playing games or using heavy data apps.... it wont get heated like expected when connected to electricity.
When on power banks it works otherwise , gets charged and increase in temperature.
One of the best thermal performance I have seen on a smartphone, thanks to the Snapdragon 625 chipset powering the phone. It had no competition back when it was launched.
Using this phone for gaming almost baked my hand
