Battery life after wear 2.0? - Asus ZenWatch 2

My battery life after the AW 2.0 update has not been the best. I've been wondering if anyone else has had this issue and figured out how to solve it.

Haven't had a lot of time to test battery life but my issue now is that my watch doesn't charge above 75%, anyone else experiencing this?

Give it some time, the first day or two after the update my battery was terrible, but it leveled out after. I've lost 9 percent in the last 6 hours

It's still horrible here after over a week. Did it improve with anyone's watch? I'm seriously considering downgrading back to AW 1.0

Have you done a factory reset since the update? If not do one.
Then run the battery down till it shuts off and then charge it back up full this will reset the battery stats.

My battery lasted only for ~12h after AW2. Only solution now for me is to turn off ambient display ("always on" option), now I need to charge only every other day with consumption ~40% in 24h.

Battery life is still not happening. Any new updates?
Hi.
My battery life, for about a week after the aw2 update, is still not happening. I'm only getting about 12 to 14 hours where before I was almost getting 2 days. That's with ambient and tilt settings on. Never had a problem before the update. And I'd hate to start turning things off just to get better battery life.
Does anyone have an update on how to fix this and what's going on?
Thanks.

Disable tilt setting very better but still not amazing....
or disable ambiant.

I did disable both of them. The battery is a little better, but nothing like before the update.

I use with ambiant and Asus face, not impressive but about 4% at 4.5% by hour for my usage. So can be used for a long day with 16-20H. Before I can have 3.5% or little better (but not always) so not huge difference.

Ok. With Always On turned off and Tilt left on and using Facer for a watch face ive gotten 31 hours with 20 percent left.
Now, I'm starting to feel happy again! I'm gonna try the same settings but switch watch face to a zw2 face and see what happens.

My second attempt with my zw2 and the same setting was about 27 hours with 10 percent left.
?????

Okay. Same setting but with a zw2 face instead of Facer, I've gone a day and a half.
Not bad.

Battery life on mine has been crap since 2.0. ambient screen is off, WiFi off and I'm lucky if it last 2 days. But the charger connection has become complete crap too. Had to order another charging cable... Which is made in China since I can't find actual Asus brand ones for sell anywhere. Takes 10 minutes and lots of attempts to get it to register the charger is connected. Even clean all the prongs to

if you want to downgrade to 1.5 last security patch update. follow that guide i made

Hy,
Mine was also very bad battery life after updating to androidwear2,0.
I downgraded back to AW1.5, and then after this, i did my update to 2,0.
Now my battery is even better then on 1.5.
I don't know why, but this method work for me.

If battery is your only problem... root your AW2 with TWRP flashed as recovery and just flash Magisk v14.0. Then load https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sssemil.advancedsettings and check your Performance settings. Set "Governor" to Ondemand and "Min Frequency" to 600000. Quite a difference that way.
EDIT: Btw, you have to start the app once then the root permission thing shows up sooner or later, but no way to allow it that way (AW is no full Android and you can see it there for example...) then hop over to Magisk app and under Superuser allow root forever. Then the app works.

Yup. If I can get rid of the android system drain (it's the wlan_rx wake lock), it would be even better. I think you can get a full 24 hrs of screen on time with your battery at the rate your going

Like I said, all stock. Worst I've got is 5.5 hours of Screen on time on a full day with GPS on a lot, Bluetooth for my Gear2 Neo and car and not close to a wifi signal for a good amount of time.
The one I posted is one of my best stats but my normal average is 6 - 6.5 hours of Screen on time.

Odd... no settings or anything you changed, or apps disabled? I've done all I can and can't get anywhere near what you're reporting. Especially with my Gear 2 Neo connected.
Since day one Android System and Android OS have been wrecking my battery life. Consistently using significantly more battery than my screen except on rare circumstance.

Yes, a lot of changes, funny thing is that I took the time to post a long thread with all the details a month and a half back just a couple of weeks after I bought it, and seeing the few responses I got it seems than nobody paid attention to this here and in the other forum I posted it.
If you want to take a look just do a search for my username and you should find it.
Good to hear! I'll dig for it now, I've not been active about at all since I got my s5... new job and I've been buried in work ever since.

I found the thread, only thing I put back was the option to keep WiFi on all the time not just when charging, I noticed later that it didn't matter, so I put it back as default.
Here is the thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2734356
I actually just finished going through it. I had done a large number of those tweaks, I did the same as you with the Keep WiFi on, didn't notice a difference when I toyed with that setting a while back. I did turn off hotword detection, so we'll see if that helps. I also saw someone mention the pedometer was draining theres. As I use the pedometer on my Gear, I didn't realize the device still had the pedometer running as well, so I disabled that. Can't think of too much else to mess with, but we'll see if those few small tweaks knock that Android System and OS drain down.

Yeah mine does that too, but I can still get over 5 hours easy. It must be some rogue app thats causing your battery to drain quickly.

That's my assumption. I tried deleting everything and installing one by one to isolate that when I first got it to no avail. May have to try it again soon. Running the latest software update now, and gonna give my latest tweaks another day or so to see.

5.0/5.0.1 Battery life thread

Just curious to see what the battery life is for everyone who has upgraded to lollipop either by VZW OTA or through JASMINEROM stock 5.0/5.0.1 rooted.
Battery Life is terrible for me on the lollipop 5.0, hardly comes for about 10 hours.
I think we need the next update immediately...
1.5 hours off the charger. On the phone for an hour, battery says I only have 7 hours left
maybe your issue too?
so im new to the note 3, my boss gave me one which is a huge upgrade over my old razr hd (i do miss unlocked bootloader though). anyways i noticed the phone sucked the battery dead pretty quickly but assumed it was bc of the big screen. one thing annoyed me, it constantly said searching using gps in the notification panel. after doing some searching i found that if i turned off the weather widget on the lockscreen (setting->lockscreen->additional information-> uncheck weather) that it stopped searching for gps all the time, giving me annoying notifications about it every 3 secs and my battery life was greatly improved. hope this helps someone

Don't forget to use the app greenify. It can really help with battery life.
I personally did a factory restore after the update. I have had over three hours screen on time with little mods like disabling apps/bloat and also disabling things like quick glance and such. I am even using bluetooth with my pebble watch. coming from an LG G2 with a 3000mah battery and smaller screen this is awesome. The lollipop update was terrible on the G2

I went from being 8 hours off charge to completely dead regardless of use pre-LP to ~20 hours with typical use post-LP. Stock battery and no changes made.
I think i had 12 hours with 8 hours screen on time the other day
About the same, 2 days of use with ~8 hours screen time.
No problems here
I *was* initially having problems since I kept leaving certain settings on unnecessarily. I like to crank up the brightness when I'm near a charger at home or in the car so that I can easily see the screen and basically ooh-and-ahh myself with a showroom look. Leaving it all the way up all day was curtains for the battery life obviously, and that's just me. People truly mindful of getting mileage out of the battery are no doubt more careful.
What has helped is that I try to be mindful of what settings I have enabled, and have gotten stellar performance after a day or two of receiving the update. I find that it's a matter of making sure WiFi is off if you're not on a network. I keep my screen brightness on "Auto," and can live with the slower performance when in power saving mode. Sucks not having root and UPSM anymore, but I can live since I rarely made it down to 20% battery life before anyway.
Your mileage may vary with the Sync setting since if it has trouble getting signal, it may get stuck in a loop and chew up battery. I don't know if there are any radio issues caused by 5.0, but I haven't noticed a difference in signal - I get as good of coverage as one can ask for in Central Ohio, and this still seems to be true so far. Anyhow, signal "hunting" has always caused the most trouble for battery life for me on several different devices.
Hope this helps...
Battery life on my mom's Note 3 is pathetic on the Lollipop update. She would go a whole day with about 40% left and now it goes from full to dead in 45 minutes. It's GPS causing the issue. She used to leave GPS on at all times on 4.4.4 back when it lasted a whole day to 40%. Now leaving it on causes the sub-1-hour battery life and with it off it still drains faster, the end of the day leaves her with a mere 20%. The 5.1 update definitely needs to be pushed ASAP.

im 90% sure its the weather widget on the lock screen pinging gps, at least it was for me. i even checked my routers log and it was pinging the weather server nonstop too. i would just deactivate it and download another weather lockscreen widget from the playstore. 5.0 is too smooth to downgrade in my opinion

Alright I'm having her try that out to see if she can leave GPS on now, however she's told me about her phone saying she has no signal randomly and that phone calls randomly drop. Sounds like the update has a poor radio firmware too. Anyone else have this problem?

Noticing poor battery life after upgrading to the Jasmine 5.0 ROM. Upgraded to Jasmine 5.02 and now I'm just deciding on when to wipe data and start from scratch.
The highest battery users were all applications, the Android OS and finally the Screen. I believe this clearly suggests that there's a battery drain bug with some of the app restores that were done after upgrading.

Battery Issue

I have found the battery life to be absolutely incredible on the ZW2 since I got it. I could go the whole day and night without an issue. Now though, for the past 2 days battery has been disgusting. I don't know what happened. I haven't installed anything for the watch since I got it, but all of a sudden I am going from 75% battery in 12 hours to 25% in 12 now. I am not using it more, in fact I think I am using it less. No additional software has been added. I don't think anything has been updated. Its as if something all of a sudden is killing the battery. Anyone else seeing this issue?
I have the same issue and had the issue with my LG G watch also. My phone normally drains faster as well when it happens. My solution is to reboot the watch. That usually solves it. Occasionally, I had to reboot my phone as well on the G watch. I'm in the habit of rebooting the watch every couple of days.
When i first got mine, 1.45in version, with always on screen, wrist gesture to wake, and screen on medium brightness enabled it wouldn't make it through 3/4 of the day.... just terrible. I tried it for two days and no luck. I then realized that i really didn't like or need the always on screen mode (especially since a touch or wrist gesture will show the time just as well). When i turned that off, it more than trippled my battery life. I use it very often now and at midnight i am at 50%.

I'll give that a shot, but I had great battery life for week then it stopped. I am not sure it will make a difference or not since I changed nothing and added nothing to the watch. It just went from awesome battery life to horrible battery life overnight....

The watch has no speaker. In fact I don't think you will ever see a smartwatch with a speaker to make calls. Use a bluetooth head set with the watch and that would solve your issue. Also I appreciate you hi-jacking my thread though, god knows it's hard to start your own.

The Samsung Gear 2 and Gear S you can make and receive phone calls. I have the gear 2 Neo and I can answer my phone using my watch because it does have a speaker. It works rather nicely.

Let's stay on the topic here.
I noticed that the battery was draining from 50 to 0 overnight. Watch idle was the culprit.
So what I did is change watch face from Zenwatch to ustwo and noticed huge improvement.
Can someone test this out? Could it be an issue with Asus watch faces?
Thanks
OK So here is what I found. Using what @chrisb22 wrote, If I reboot the watch in the morning just after removing it from the charger battery goes into awesome mode. Meaning, past two days 7 AM to 10 PM ending the day at 68%, 70% respectively. Today at 7 AM I did not do the reboot, pulled it off the charger and started my day as usual. It is now 1:15 PM and I am at 27% Battery left. Looks to be a exponential battery drain bug in the software. @danix180 it very well could be the face. I am going to try the reboot tomorrow to confirm that I am not have the drain. If it gives me amazing battery life again I will try the Face and update.

I have found the more colorful the watch face, the battery drains quicker. Try a watchface that has a black background and see if this helps.

My watch had terrible battery life out of the box. A factory reset seemed to have fixed that. I also disabled google play services' keep awake permission on my phone (which vastly improved my phones standby time by more than 4x or more). I have always on screen on and am now at 57% after about 15 hrs (maybe a bit more). My biggest battery killer is watch idle at 8%, followed by something with no name or icon at 6%, then Android system at 3% and screen at 2%. Oled displays really dont use much battery when 90% of your display is black. I am hoping we can get root sometime so i can remove the unnecessary Asus apps such as asus weather, wellness and UP which may help a bit as well since they show up on my usage stats sometimes.
I can confirm once again that some asus watch faces are really what's causing the battery drain overnight. Last night it drained from 100 to 0 with the Gravity face.
With any other non Asus face overnight drain is 10% tops.. It could be one of those asus app like weather or wellness that's actually causing the issue
Just picked up my ZenWatch 2 over the weekend. Like others, I initially had great battery life but starting today it totally took a dive. I rebooted the watch and it seems to have slowed the burn rate dramatically. Will probably just get into the habit of rebooting it on a routine basis.

I use a WatchMaker face and my watch has been draining terribly, perhaps lasting 12 hours at most. I just started rebooting it every morning after taking it off the charger and now it lasts all day and into the next. I haven't changed to a built in watch face yet but that will be my next troubleshooting step.

Hey guys just got my zenwatch 2.. upgraded from a pebble. but so far its been a downgrade The battery I feel is defective. First day it made it about 6-7 hours. Second day it went to 6% in about 4 hours!! I have wrist gestures off and screen always on- off. its pretty much unusable I really wanted to make it work and I'm going to try a few more days . Then today I left it on the charger for like 6 hours and battery was reading at 92%??? I pull it off....boom drops 1% the other day I'd pull notification shade down and read bat. push it up and pull it down again and it would drop another point. It's crazy!!! I thiink I need to send it back to ASUS. I wish I could root it and throw another simple ROM or something. I really like the watch and was looking forward to android wear. Maybe its back to pebble. Any suggestions? and or will there be a root/rom for this watch do you guys think?. Thanks glad you guys are here to cry to lol

My Zenwatch2 lasts arount 24hours including sleep tracking during the night and charge every morning in the office. The charging cycle needs about an hour.
Battery drain was huge in the first 3 days because of constant fiddling with my new toy - i had to charge twice a day
Additional note: The zenwatch 2 has WiFi support built in. I had to ask google WHY this could be needed?! WiFi allows you to get notifications, even if you are out of reach of your telephone (BT-Connection broken). This also uses some battery - the zenwatch even notified me, it had disabled WiFi to use less battery. Could only be helpful in my own house, when the smartphone is out of reach. I changed the wlan timeout from the default 120 minutes to 15 minutes.

I agree with @pbaumi, this sounds like you got a bad device. Even when I had terrible battery life, my watch would still last about 8 hours with screen always on. I have screen always on and went from 86% to 48% in about 9 hours. Thats actually the worst ive seen it at for a few days as well.

2.8.4.0 update draining battery

Does anyone have battery drainage problems after updating to 2.8.4.0 stock firmware?
My watch battery now lasts only for 6 hours on a full charge!
Thank you all for any tip.
I don't have any drain.
Installed the update the first day that come (~20 days ago)

No, I get about 4 days with 3 apps providing notifications, continuous heart rate, little GPS usage, and with the auto light on option turned off.

Yup, that's what I used to get, about ~20% a day.

Yes, that's what I used to get, with the same options.
Maybe this was a coincidence with a malfunction of the charger. Some time ago, the charger contacts were very unstable and that may have damaged the battery.
I bought a new charger and now I'm trying to "re-educate" the battery, doing full chargings and full dischargings. I think I'm getting something, now I get 1.5 days on a full charge, with the same options.
Do you think I'm on the right direction? Do you have any tips on this?
Thanks!
I also have the same issue after the 2.8.4.0 update. Battery dont last for more than 8 hours

Android Pie - Any issues

Hi everyone,
I've had my mediapad M5 8.4 since the beginning of the year, and realised the other day it's never updated, so I tried updating with Hisuite today, and it's updated from SHT-W09 8.0.0.168(C432) to SHT-W09 8.0.0.196(C432), and is now actually offering me the Pie update.
Before I take the plunge and update to Pie, I was wondering if there are any common / known issues with the update?
I've been really happy with the performance and the battery life (I use it infrequently, and it can go a couple of weeks between charges easily), so I wanted to confirm that updating wasn't going to break anything?
thanks for any advice!

You'll enjoy better after update. Numerous improvements will make you happy. Read log from Huawei website [emoji6]
Meh. There is only one significant difference and that is a battery drain when in standby, even if in Airplane Mode. I don't know about you but one of the main things I liked about my M5 was the standby battery life. It used to be phenomenal. Now I lose 6 or more percent every night when I used to barely lose 1 percent. Personally I would avoid 'upgrading' to Pie bigtime.

Hmm. Not my experience and Pie is infamous for standby drain.
I find the opposite as well. Standby drain for me on 8 was terrible, but hardly notice any drain now on 9

How bizarre. I had next to zero standby drain with Oreo. I dislike the app drawer in Pie and also that it consumes more RAM. In short the negatives far outweigh any positives for me. I hate what Pie has done to my M5.

I agree with you about the app drawer though, that's why I use Nova launcher.

With Oreo I could keave the tablet in Airplane Mode and it would lose maybe 2% per week. With Pie it loses approx 4% per night in Airplane Mode. I have done everything except a hard reset but to no avail.

Last charge was 18 days ago. Only used it to watch a couple of movies in this time, as been busy with other things recently, but still got 22% battery left. I'm happy with that to be honest. All I do is close the smart cover when finished with the tablet.
Have a look... More than 10hrs and still 100%.

Fair enough if you're happy. For me Pie has brought nothing worthwhile to the table but my standby battery life is worse, it uses more RAM and the app drawer is lousy. I'll be reverting back to Oreo when I have a couple of spare hours to kill.

The M5 does stay at 100% longer than any other device I own so that's not conclusive evidence. How does it act when you leave it at say 77% and come back to it 10 hours later?

Battery drain whilst being used seems to be fairly similar to Oreo but it's standby and especially standby drain whilst in Airplane Mode that I'm concerned with. I had never before owned a device which sipped so little juice in standby as the 8" M5 running Oreo. So for me Android Pie is a major disappointment because there is notable standby drain whilst in Airplane Mode. It's night and day.

So approx 3% per 24 hrs. Was this in Airplane Mode or just normal standby?
