Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 7 (Nougat)?
A: Yes, this is Android 7.1.2
Q: What code is Oct-N based on?
A: This version of Oct-N is based on LineageOS 14.1
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But all the others have..
A: ROM developers, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-N.
Q: What about root?
A: Root is removed by default (user will be able to flash which ever root zip they want)
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOs recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.
ADB Logcat tutorial here: How to create a logcat log
The foundation of the Android OS is the fact that is it open-source. They have all code we use internally in the creation of Oct-N available on our GitHub repositories.

Awesome ?

@tdg2k15
Wow.
You aren't sleeping at all ?

Thanks for this, giving the flasholics their fix, very nice!!!

Just what I needed to calm my nerves

Absolutely gonna try this ROM right now thanks a lot.

How is this compared to your RR?
Also it says it has SuperSU installed but in your questions it says no root.
At the risk of looking silly. Wut?
Second edit: Figured it out. The changelog you linked to is outdated. The newer version has no SuperSU.

Sorry switched roms so can't post screen shot. But over 9 hours of use I got 3+ hours sot. The standby time is great too.

I just switched to this rom after being on Lineage for a long while. The setup was fast, worked perfect, and was very easy. So far everything works great. Chop for light works (although sometimes there is a delay) and so does the twist for camera. The only snag I have run into is that there was a quick random reboot when the flashlight was on. Other than that its been a really good start. I will update with any issues I have tomorrow. But so far so good. I love the nexus launcher!

The rom is great, the only problem is I'm getting errors with substratum.

Well I have to get RR bugs sorted out , but after that I will sync sources with Oct and publish

Ok so I can say this the battery life is great. I had between 10% to 15% more battery at the end of yesterday then I usually have and that was a fairly normal day with a few extras. I have not had any more hiccups with the os. This is my new daily driver. It looks like it could be stock and everything seems to work. I don't require root because I like using Android Pay and I like Netflix. The best thing... It doesn't heat up in my pocket like LOS It all just works. Love it! Thank you for this rom.

This may happened to me because of having a very old battery, but I never got those "great battery life" results. They were awful. With heavy usage, i got 4hs of SoT and 6 hours of battery, that was pretty good. But on normal day to day usage, results were very, very bad. Most of the times I barely got to 2:30hs of sot and ~8 hours of battery life, and it drains fast. Guess I'll stick to good ol' and boring stock 6.0

I really liked the ROM, it has very good performance, I do not drain the battery. I was thinking of installing a kernel, but I do not really see it as necessary. The only thing I did was root, and everything is fine. Today all day I traveled, all day the BT connected to the vehicle, the network in 4G. In general the mobile surrendered me 12hrs the day, with 2:30 of screen.I consider q if it is for normal use, nothing intense, it goes very well.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 5 (Lollipop)?
A: Yes, this is Android 5.1.1
Q: What code is Oct-L based on?
A: Starting with Oct-L, we've rebased OctOs on the CyanogenMod 12 code.
Q: What happened to AOSP?
A: All Android code is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Under previous releases, we tried very hard to limit the number of "Not from Google directly" repositories that we used. Unfortunately, issues with devices, the need for Code Aurora Foundation (CAF) repositories for Qualcomm devices, and compatibility issues meant fighting code more often than not. We decided that since the code-base for many repositories were the same across most ROMs, picking a starting point to build the user experience on outweighed the desire to craft code from scratch, or fix broken code to make it work with other changes we already had.
Q: Why isn't there XXXXXXX feature.
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But CM and all the others have..
A: ROM developers, including CM, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-L.
Q: Superuser or SuperSU?
A: Team OctOs uses SuperSU and is installed automatically.

Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favourite Android 5 based GApps package
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
Factory Reset from TWRP
Flash ROM and GApps .ZIP files
Reboot
The Oct-L ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /data/dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your GApps Provider

-Battery life good (make sure keep Google play services in check) sometimes I get lucky with the gapps I try, sometimes not
-GPS great
-No dual window (we're cm based)
-Bluetooth good. I believe NFC works, but I don't use it. Anyone chime in?
Thanks for trying us!
Thanks for bringing this ROM to the G3. Everything is running good. Very snappy, no lag, lots of features. I didn't try nfc or Bluetooth since I don't use them. Keep up the good work.

Hello! Thank you for bringing your ROM to us! What do you mean by "make sure to keep Google play services in check"? Is there something I should be looking for?
Thank you in advance!
Edit: Internet connection popped in after cycling from Global to 3g, then Global to LTE. Works great now!

NFC? It's best not to bring that up around here - it's the bane of the G3 dev and kind of the Holy Grail. Bluetooth isn't totally ironed out yet, but I find it plenty reliable. Thx for bringing us OctOS @red3razor! Since the early S3 days, I've dug your product and team attitude!

Might add some later, it is basically lineageos with a few small additions.
Looks interesting...downloading now
Before anyone asks, I'll put what I plan to do for updates.
I could do nightlies, I have quite a bit of spare time, however I don't want to. Why? Why would I if a day has seen low github activity on OctOS' side, and there haven't been changes? Therefore, I shall regularly check their GitHub, and update if there are notable changes. I will try to update at least once a week regardless of GitHub activity to sync with latest LineageOS/AOSP sources.
This would likely change if this becomes official, I would follow OctOS' guidelines the the updating schedule
I've tried this ROM before on my T-Mobile Galaxy S3. It's a pretty awesome ROM. Thanks for building it for bacon. ?
I tried this ROM for a while and this is how it went out for me.
Almost all the time on WiFi. About 45 minutes on LTE.
Lots of YouTube (virtually 60% of this cycle), Telegram using Plus Messenger, WhatsApp, Streaming music through Spotify for about an hour and some browsing using arter97's Chromium.
The ROM is really smooth and gives decent battery life on stock. I could not find any bugs on it so far, seems pretty stable as well.
I hope to see more from this dev. Thanks for this port.
Looks interesting. I'll give it a try. Downloading now.
Update released, check link in op.
Update to latest security patch, and I am now the official maintainer, expect to see weeklies, this will probably be one of my last community builds
I'm facing issue with Adaway It fails to copy host can someone please provide solution??
Looks greatly promising, will be my first nougat rom, when i feel to change my daily driver Hexagon...
great ROM , and for bacon have AOSP version? or just only LOS version?
anyone with screenshot for this Rom ?
Coming from Sultan Rom, any specific things to follow when flashing this ?
Good rom. Just one thing i think miss or i'm not able to find: there's any way to disable superuser icon on status bar? Or it will be implemented in next releases?
Thanks
Removing su icon will be implemented soon.

As for screenshots, it is plain los with added features. I'll try to add some screenshots later.

Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favorite Open Gapps package http://opengapps.org
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
The Oct-N ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your Gapps Provider. When dirty flashing weekly updates, you MUST reflash Gapps along with any other files, apps, custom mods or kernels etc.. (anything that resides in system partition)
Flash ROM, GApps and any additional .ZIP files
Reboot

YOU have to determine what is draining battery. Install tools like Wakelock Detector or Better Battery Stats to see what's up.
Could be kernel, could be Google services, social media apps, rogue app, almost anything.
Go to Settings -> Battery. What's at the top of the list?
Don't forget to let the ROM settle in some. Can't really determine battery life on first cycle.

It all depends how you use your device and what you are using. Saying that, I find it to be very battery friendly.
Not sure about that. May battery is 5 years old and most of the time i'm connected to charger but besides that, it depends on your use.

I find it quite fast, but battery is probably not as good as Marshmallow roms.
I am using it since a couple of week. For my usage I found it a bit worse than MM. What I lack is theming, I'd like an all black interface.

The ROM came with the phone is supporting volte and I am using the stock one only and u say not compatible
I installaed weekly version 20170610-0021 on my Moto G5 yesterday and so far it runs pretty smoothly.
The only issue I have encountered is that the backside (main) camera is not working properly outside of the standard camera app: In Instagram it straight up doesn't work at all, if I try switching from front to back (front camera works fine), it just shows a black screen and nothing else happens. If I switch back to the front camera everything still works, I didn't encounter any app crashes or anything like that. The problem is similar in Snapchat: front camera works fine, but if I use the backside camera, I can only shoot photos. If I try to record a video, the screen freezes (it shows how much longer I can record but the rest is frozen) and once I release the record button the app freezes again for a short time and I can then edit the photo (wich is probably just the first frame I tried to record)....
But as I said: No other problems so far, everything runs smoothly.
