Screen on time - Sony Xperia X Compact Real Life Review

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Sony Xperia X Compact before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Anyone have any feedback? How does it compare to the s7 and s8? The original x?
I just want a small phone with good battery life as my s8 is too big.

I usually get about 7 or 8 hours

Really depends how you use. Example, if I have Bluetooth on always for Mi Band 2 connection, then it's about 3-5 hours. When it's off, it's 5-6 or even more hours. Coming from Samsung s6 it's real improvement.

Yesterday, with ΞΌTorrent open for 1-2 hours and I watched Saw IV for 1 hour.

I am thinking about getting a XC as backup phone but wondering how long is SOT while playing games and if it gets hot.

Are you going to buy a backup phone for playing games...? It will definately be fine though. It does not get hot and it's faster than you think.

Well the games I am looking at is mainly puzzle games, just worried mainly about performance since previous main phone was a xperia m4 aqua that couldn't do plain games and overheated. So I got myself a new main phone, axon7 and handles everything I toss at it but I still want a small and comfy phone for easy use on the go.

Go for the X Compact without a second thought. It has nothing to do with the M series by Sony, and handles everything in a surprisingly stable way.

Usually 2:30/3 hours of SoT.
Sadly Phone Idle process is a monster in battery draining. Never had more than 3 hours and half, even without playing games or watching videos.

Wonderful

I'm scared to even use my ultra z

... Personally I find the battery life brutal. It's got to the point that I try not to even use it for fear of not making it even 10 hours with minimum use. I use my Nexus 7 more and more, even for texting with an app called Mighty Text. Even with stamina activated, battery life is short.
With one hour of listening to music at the gym, and a handful of texts, and reading maybe one or two emails, it is basically done in just under 9 hours. With the screen rarely on... My android system shows a higher percent than my screen time because I try to turn it on as little as possible.

I seen you replied to my YouTube video.
Like i said there, you probably have a defective unit or there is something going on. My Z Ultra easily lasts 6+ hours of screen on time and i have no trouble making it through a full day.
Can you share some screenshots of app usage or other info?
There have been a few faulty Z Ultras sold from asia so it would not surprise me if you got one.

Same. Mine lasts me a full day with 5+hrs of screen time, most usage is FB, net surfing and messaging using data and some calls and video streaming. Stamina mode not used at all.

Yeah that sounds about right
I absolutely believe what the OP said though. I think he is really having bad battery life but, i put that down to the device being faulty or there is a rogue app consuming a lot of power it shouldn't be.
How are you enjoying the beast so far?

It's rather difficult to tell, sure it could be just a rare unlucky defective unit or some other rouge apps but we can't tell for sure until he provides battery usage charts etc.
And yeah, totally enjoying this beast. Previously I was on Note 2, it doesn't have a FHD screen and I moved to S4 which is full HD but the screen size is a little small for videos while relaxing on my bed. Tried tablet options but there isn't really any good FHD tablets with 3G/LTE. I had the Samsung Ative PC Pro but it's a humongous 13.3'' and pretty heavy. I've thought about the Padfone Infinity but again, I rather look at Snapdragon 800 devices. I think Z Ultra came at the right time, with the right hardware and form factor for people like me. It's like owning a Nexus 7 2013 but with full phone functions. Awesome. :good:
Just do factory reset and give it a go again. Also install gsma battery or better battery stats from play store and see what is eating battery.
I am able to pull about 5 hours Screen on time with more than 15% battery left still.
It might be some app causing wakelock issue.
Turning sync off is not needed and it is pointless. We have a smartphone, turning sync off just makes it that little bit dumb. I am getting decent battery life with 3 email account syncing along with 14 sources hourly updated and synced in pule and twitter syncing every 15 minutes. Also signed into Whatsapp and Hangouts. No issues at all.
Screen I have adjusted to my liking. Not too dark.
If possible post your battery graph from gsam. (Along with the app usage screen).
I not sure can be done use this method. But I try my device before and now batt usage came to normal. Just press the power button n the volume up wait until the vibrant 3 time after all your device will suit off and goto charge yr device until full charged (don't. Switch on your device). After full charge prees the power button like normal start . Now try to use your device one day see the result.
Hope can help.

This is how the battery lasted on my Z Ultra after the first charge.
Auto sync was turned on and so was everything else. I was using it very heavy throughout the day.

As i think...it's just that it need some time to settle down and calibrate to be set as per ur usage...
the best thing is ur under warranty u can go for replacement anytime u want...(That's the last Scenario..)
And Exactly....What u did is a simple reset so as it triggers to refresh the whole ui...
and do this after doing this let ur phone come to 0% and then plug in charge it to a full 100 % ,let it charge for 5-10 mins extra too,....would calibrate your battery fully....
Then use these.
1. Set brightness around 40-60 % which i guess is more than enough....as it Drains the battery quite heavily..
and try not to use the live wallpapers...
2.Always clear ur background apps...
3. No problem with syncs or data connection....use them as u like that's what they are for. as disabling would result in same or more wakelocks....
4. Check ur battery stats under power mangement and click on graph...The screen on time and the awake time bars should be parallel or closer to it...
Else You can do the things for what it stands for....
Want to ask this, how's the ultra what's ur view for it liked it or not, any best features u noticed.
and post here.. :good:
I'll try some of these sugestions.. yesterday my screen on time was only 1 hour 38 minutes.. I should have taken a screen shot sorry. Today randomly seems to be a little better.

Ah no need to be sorry just take a random screen shot.
Just do this to observe charging from 0 to 100% after using the combi power + vol up. Till the 3 vibrations.

A couple of questions:
- Exactly what are you doing with your ZU? Are you playing games? Reading?
- Which apps do you have installed? There are plenty of apps out there that will suck the life out of the battery (Facebook etc.)
- When did you get it? New batteries aren't at max capacity right out of the box. A typical week will normally give you max output (so around 7 cycles)
And hows the ultra's response. ?

- I listen to music for one hour during workout
- check email maybe once or twice a day with gmail
- 20 minutes youtube, used to do more with Note 2, but scaled back with this phone
- using google chrome for browser, usually will browse a bit, but keeping that to minimum
- text conversations
- at most one or two calls a day, don't talk much on the phone
- check facebook a couple times, instagram a few times, not much again since getting this phone
- installed apps are: FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, TWITTER, MIGHTY TEXT, GOOGLE APS, (MUSIC, PLAY BOOKS ETC), EBAY, NETFLIX, SHAZAM, TD BANK, ZEDGE, and Riptide game which i don't play.
this is day 5 with the phone.

[Q] Is Xperia Z Ultra Still Relevant and Worth Buying today?!?

Hey all! Is the Z Ultra still worth buying today? It has one of the best displays around, its design is not matched and it is half the price than when it was released which is around 300$ now.
But here is my dilema, at 300$ there are small tablets like the galaxy tab S 8.4 and others with great screens and battery life to compete. With that said my biggest concern which led me to consider other devices is the mixed review I got on battery life. But there is no great place to ask except ZU veterans
IS IT THAT BAD?? I do reading and watch occasional videos with average of 4hrs of screen on time with 3g/4g constantly browsing and downloading/uploading. Can't it handel that?
Are the days of the Z Ultra over or does it have some fight in it to compete?? I am all ears to listen to what you all got to say.
Thanks in advance!

Some wi-fi usage and web browsing. However, this was done whilst the screen was at full brightness.
I'd say Kitkat was better for battery life. Should you be patient, Lolipop 5.1 will be released for the Xperia Z Ultra sometime in February.
Bugs and stability/performance and battery should all be improved.

Normally with every device i have used, i havent been able too see anything while outside. If i turn the brightness up, i can read and see everything fine. The phone has the latest android lollipop, and does have a good display with some still very good specs, i havent found anything that does not run perfectly. With lollipop, this thing just flys. My battery life is around 5 hours with very heavy usage, that is because i am always watching videos, or playing games, searching the web, etc. With light to medium usage this lasts me easily all day and then sone. I have unlimited 4g LTE and stream movies all the time, it works great.

Ive been asking around and am getting roughly the same answers. 5-6hrs on heavy usage which is good news for me, and with some tweaks and mods things will get even better I hear, which makes it that much great. With the visibility issue, if setting the brightness at maximum will do the trick, then i have no complaints. I rarely use it in bright daylight but I don't want to squint and stress my eyes when I do. thanks again!

Z5C or Z3C?

Hey there,
I want to buy a new phone and put my C5303 away ... I am saw some people complaining about overheating Z5C. Should I buy Z3C or Z5C?
What will I do with the phone?
1.Play HD games (rr3,asphalt 8 etc.)
2.Texting
3.Take so much photos (not recording videos so much but I will record some)
4.And of course phone calls
Thanks to those people who will help me
Z5c. The camera is far better than on z3c. So is gaming
Go for the Z3 compact! Ive had the Z3 compact and now ive got the Z5 compact, the Z5c heats up when playing games (even with less demanding ones like terraria) and this results in battery drain. Where the Z3c used to last me a day with the same use the Z5c has to be charged twice daily. I would go back to the Z3c if I could, it was a great device and probably the best phone I've ever had.
Z5c definitely gets warm but not super hot unless you are installing apps or doing something intense while gaming...
I myself play asphalt 8 and it's really just fine, works great.
As for battery life, any heavy 3d app is bound to eat battery on any device , I'd say you can get over an hour of gaming and still make it to the end of the day, I've never had to charge my Z5c twice in a day and with casual use (no heavy 3d gaming) I usually start the next day with about 50-60%
If you want a dependable camera, you'll need Z5c. Z3c's camera is really not good at all. I've had both and the difference is significant. Plus, the capless usb is a huge advantage. The front camera is also far better on z5c.
I was in the same doubt: Z5C for sure! the construction itself (the z5c it's nicer than z3c), the battery is ok (normally use: BT activated non-stop, Mobile Data, 30min-1h angry birds 2, about 2-3h calls, and playing around the phone a lot, music about 1-2h - charged in the morning, and in the evening is about 40-50% which is impressive for me, coming from Galaxy S6 dual sim where I had to charge it twice per day!). The camera is definitely better (I spent about 1 day to compare other phones with Z5 and Z5C)
I won't call it either warm or super hot but it does heat up. Camera on z5c is way better and screen improved. The battery life will just getting better after Android 6.0 so it should not be a problem. If you do real playing HD games full day then z3c might be more safe for it's lower temp.
So most of you guys are saying that Z5C is better than Z3C. I will get the Z5C %70. I will get it from Dubai so not sure about the price. Anyway thanks for help I think Z5C should be a good device for me. Have a nice day!
I have the Z5C and I really dislike it. Great phone ruined with Snapdragon 810.
Some things are just unusable on this phone. Like WiFi hotspot with LTE. Phone turns it off automatically after a while since the phone gets too hot.
Really disappointed on this phone. 1/10
Edit:
And this issue happened to me while the phone was not even charging, so I'm guessing that it lasts even shorter period of time if the phone is charging.
We used to use my phone as a router while not at home since I've got unlimited 150 MB/s LTE data plan.
But with this device it is actually impossible to use it for this purpose.
Also the phone also shuts down the camera if taking 4k video for more than a few minutes. The same error message appears about the temperature as with the LTE WiFi hotspot.
Other that that the phone is great, but still. Anyone needing these features should get some other phone.
I could live with these issues if the phone was actually cheap, but Z5C is not a cheap phone.

No, I wouldn't know where to find 150 Mbps LTE. I use it like I imagine most people do, with one or two devices to access various web sites. I do stream Youtube with it and have not had any problems. Yours sounds like a special use case.

Yeah sorry if I was vague about the issue. But yeah light use is no problem. But my previous phone had no issues with this kind of usage.
Perhaps I'll need to root and downclock or something when using this for that purpose.

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Xiaomi Mi A1's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Well i don't really play candy crush, but i do like playing games over ppsspp, along with some critical ops, into the dead 2, etc. And I'm almost always using facebook or instagram or chrome. Even today, I've been continuously gaming. I'm at 28% and SOT is over 7 hours.
Even when I'm not continuously playing games, i still get a full day with heavy use.

I have been easily getting 6-7 hours of SOT with heavy usage and 8 hours of SOT with moderate usage. can easily go for two days with low usage. the endurance is absolutely fantastic. that too for measly 3080mah. screenshot:

Now is difficult reach 6.30 in 2 days
I don't play games, just lots of web surfing and other app usage, and I usually have 4-5 hrs SOT while using about 50% battery. This is with the Nov update. LTE data always enabled.
I watch a lot of YouTube videos and surf a lot. Everyday 9-10hrs screen on time (that is if I wait till battery depletes to 0). Battery life is phenomenal.
I can't reach more than 4 hours... maybe you guys only use it for reading ebooks? XD
battery life depends on screen brightness also.
there are many things which can effect battery life like,
no. of apps installed, screen brightness, wifi scanning always available ON/OFF etc.
i have one A1 (rose gold) which is used by my wife, is made in india. and she is getting good battery backup.
i am going to recieve mine (black) on this sunday, will compare both after that and post here.
(comparing both will be a good idea as rose gold is made in india and black should be made in china)

Certainly. Btw, the November patch improved battery life. Day before yesterday i had 9h of sot with 25% still left. But yeah, use wasn't that heavy but still above moderate. I usually play critical ops and some ppsspp games.

In my experience ppsspp games are quite demanding so itΒ΄s great to hear that A1 handles it well. I am going to pick it up for christmas so I am very excited.
thankfully, I don't play games on my phone(s)
just a casual browsing

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+'s battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Decided to give this machine a full Saturday of being out around town. Woke up around 9am, phone was at 90%, did some errands, listening to podcasts, watched a lot of YouTube videos at my cigar lounge, streamed different news while in the car via BT, and at night walked the dog while listening to more podcasts via Samsung Galaxy buds. At 8pm I had about 19 hours of on time since last charge, nearly 5 hours of screen on time, and ended the day now at 19% before plugging the phone in while I showered and took out the trash and I'm back at 89%. I remember the days of my OG Droid or NEXUS phones and so this is just damn mind blowing. I will still get a ZERO LEMON for when I'm at the beach or Disney (live right by there in LA) as having that extra security of power just easies the mind but other than that this Note 10+5G is beastly.
7hrs SOT including over 6 hours of UHD youtube vanced playing and around 48% battery remaining. Brightness at MAX (using video enhancer).
That's more than decent in my book!
Unlocked USA version, Snapdragon 855 with 512GB storage.
I got same SOT around 7hrs+ note 10 plus USA tmobile carrier

Add to that the screen is huge and it runs very fast.
The more I play with the 10+, the more I like it.
In another day or so I'll be holding a smartphone 1 tb of fast storage. Outstanding.
Samsung finally got the Galaxy Buds software/firmware dailed in... what's not to like*?
*ok maybe just a tad of sarcasm...
I wish I had the Snapdragon model
Exynos is .....
i got this phone... i cant remember when i got this phone, but ive ran it constantly while at work, and usually its even gaming by itself when im not using it, few months ago i thought hm prolongued use.. may be an uh oh.
0 life difference, battery still op asf
Bought the note 10 plus last year. The battery is still amazing getting 7-8 hours of SOT. I have three emails in full sync. Location, GPS, and Bluetooth always on. Definitely sticking with this phone until the end

hi.. may i ask what android version your using? pie? thanks
After heavy settings and packaging blocking mods my AT&T 10+ running on Pie uses 7-10% @ hour during internet vids, browsing, and gaming.
A 20% charge last 2-3 hours of SOT. Outstanding*.
*it wasn't always like this; at one point it was a hot running battery hog.

My Snapdragon AT&T variant did about the same or worse.
It was a hot running hog dog.
86+ blocked packages, plus extensive settings mods, plus disabling all power management and adding Karma firewall, a lot of time optimizing it... it now a fast, cool running machine with good battery life.
My advice is to play with it. Keep it running on Pie.
It may yet surprise you.

Is there a list anywhere of which packages to block?
