Early looks at the hardware show a bottom firing speaker next to the charging port.

Like he said above. Speaker is on the bottom. The speaker clairty is good with he calling. Tested it on my family earlier. Played some music at full blast and the sound wasn't great but you could hear it from the other room. I'd say probably a 7/10 but honestly I haven't had a phone that I'd rate over an 8/10 yet. Definitely in particular with a pixel or s8

Louder than my HTC 10, and moto z force. Pulled out the Droid Turbo louder than it as well.
On par with my s7 edge, if not just barely louder.

Definitely louder than my Turbo 2. I can hear it in another room as well.

It gets loud but the during last 3 ticks of the volume, sound quality takes a dive and gets pretty harsh

i'm considering this phone but i'm concerned about the speaker volume clarity.
I'm currently using iphone 8 plus and really impressed by the speakers sound, best i've heard for clarity and loudness.
I was alos impressed with htc u11 speakers, if it's as good as that them i'm sold.

I forgot to update this. They fixed the harshness of the speaker . It's totally fine now. The volume stepping has also improved.

Don't know if I'm late to the party but I find the loud speaker very good actually. I'll preface that by saying I don't listen to music on speaker, I have headphones of Bluetooth speakers for that. Call audio is very crisp and gets very loud. I'm very impressed by it. I think your usage/expectation will dictate how satisfied you are. My phone isn't my boombox so I think the speaker is great.

Oh yeah definitely. I mainly use my speakers for YouTube and the speaker is more than suitable for that.

Have had this phone for a few weeks and it is by far the loudest and most clear loudspeaker I've had on any phone. From htc, lg, samsung, zte, Moto. this is my favorite phone ever.

[Q] ear piece and speaker volume

Hello,
I have read in reviews that the ear piece speaker and external facing speaker are not the best in our phone, HTC Amaze, however, I was wondering if any one had tweaks or an app to "boost" them, outside of manually adjusting the volume on the phone of course?
I think I saw 2 apps that were developed for the nexus galaxy that improved the LED and the speakers respectively.
Thanks for any ideas

you say that cuz of the reviews you have read or cuz you really feel they are not the best?
I have found that I would like a louder ear piece and speaker.
It is OK in a quiet environment however, if there is exterior or ambient noise I feel myself working harder than I would like to ensure I hear clearly the person speaking.
You don't have a similar experience?
I'm fine. Everyone's hearing is different however. Are you talking about direct ear contact or strictly headphones?

These are amazing better the bose, beats audio or anything you have ever listened to...the base is not crazy like beats audio, clarity is unmatched I have had these for 5 years I paid around 200 for them...absolutely worth it...very clear, you won't believe your ears...you can try them at a bang and olufsen store if you have one near you... They are so comfortable and stay on, you won't even feel them...best comfort best sound. what else do you want...fully adjustable..

Jeesh! It is a common problem in a noisy environment. I have excellent hearing and no ear wax...ewww. I have a terrible time hearing through the earpiece and find myself constantly moving the phone around on my ear trying to find the sweet spot.
If you enable the "hearing aids" option in settings/call, it will amplify the sound considerably but then it sounds like a speakerphone with no privacy. Maybe in a very noisy environment, that wouldn't be a problem. I tried it in my local very noisy grocery store and it worked fine but still sounded too much like the speakerphone. At least I could hear what the other person was saying!
I have moved the phone around my ear a lot to figure out where the loudest sound is coming from and when I sort of point the very top of the phone at the ear canal, the sound is much louder. Maybe this will help but it is still frustrating. Never had a phone that is so hard to hear in a noisy environment.

[Q] How good are the speakers?

Everyone knows the One has great sound. Since I don't know anyone who currently owns the One and don't think I can get a real feel in-store, can current owners give me a comparative opinion?
My frames of reference are the Galaxy Note 10.1 stereo speakers and the Nokia N8.
Thanks!
I had the nexus 10, which I think was supposed to have the same speakers as the galaxy note series.
The One's speakers are much fuller in terms of range and soundstage. Highs are higher and lows are deeper.
The only positive aspect of the N10/Note's speakers were that they were front spacing, quality wise they were relatively crappy-sounding.
I'm very pleased with the speakers, I will admit I thought they would be a little louder but the sound quality is impressive. If you disable beats the volume is a little greater Imo. I'd try to find a demo unit and mess with it.

They're almost obnoxiously loud, but the quality is amazing. I don't want another phone with rear speakers.

They won't replace any headsets or speaker docks, but they have brought built in speakers from hideous to surprisingly acceptable. They're magnitudes better than the very very low bar that is the norm.

I had to get a new alarm clock that slowly increases the volume of the alarm over 5 minutes. The standard alarm on the One scared the crap out of me in the morning on two occasions.
I agree with the others. The sound is loud but also clear. My GS3 speaker would get loud but that was only if it was facing away from you or if the sound was reflecting off of something. While it was loud it sounded really distorted. The speakers on the One are loud and don't sound like a teeny tiny cellphone speaker. They sound like decent laptop speakers.

Is amazing how good and crisp they sound. One of those things that you think is overhyped marketing.....and when you see it in action you don't want to get another phone with rear speaker. Crisp. Clear. If music played has stereo quality it comes out as it should. Obviously, these are small speakers, but for the size it's amazing.
I use my One to play music for my office floor. Rameses b. Not bad stuff. Check him out.
Excellent speakers.

I love the speakers, they are loud, but not overbearing, the quality is much better than most others phones I have heard. Im happy I dont have to cup my hand behind the phone anymore just to hear the sound when im watching a youtube video. all in all, I think its the fact that the speakers are in front instead of on the back, it makes for a better user experience IMO.:good:
My 2 year old can finally listen to "wheels on the bus" in stereo quality, praise the Lord!

[Q] Poor sound from Z Ultra

Good day expert,
I love Sony Xperia Ultra Z. But I found out that Xperia Z Ultra can't perform a good phone function especially the speaker. The sound produced from the speaker is really low and unclear especially during phone call. This doesn't help even I have put it to loudspeaker. I have adjusted the volume control to max. I barely listen clearly the others party conversation. I feel shame.
I even tried the setting of (Normal, Bright, ..., slow talk) but it doesn't help. I confirmed it is not my Z Ultra defect as I checked others Z Ultra at retail store. All have the same poor and low sound output from the speaker.
How to really enjoy such a great phone if the sound produced is not loud and clear?
The sound really not acceptable (blur and poor volume output).
Seeking for help from SONY and experts.
Here is how I've ranked the audio (headphones) performance:
1)Nokia Phones (N9/Lumia)
2) HTC One X
3) iPhone 4s
4) Xperia Z Ultra
in regards to speaker output, i believe because of its placement vs. HTC OneX, for me its an improvement
I hope there are mods to increase the stock speaker volume as well as beats audio algorithms for music because its lacking right now!
only dumb people can talk about poor sound from external dynamic on water proof devices. Sorry but I'm sick and tired of threads like this.
Sound through headphones is beautiful and very audiophiliac with ClearAudio+ (enable)
Try to change your build prop at system and see what happen. You can search for xda forum to see how to change your build prop for increase device volume.
But first you need to rooted device.

You should have researched well before buying. Almost all reviews noted that the 2 weaknesses of the ultra are speaker volume and lack of flash. Most of us knew this and bought it, as this is truly a great device.

I don't really know why so many people complain about it. It's pretty par for the course in terms of tiny "external" speakers. Fairly tinny, but loud enough to be too loud in a quiet room. Note that the volume drops by a large amount after submerging the device in water. You need to wait for the speaker grille to purge itself of liquid before the volume returns.

I agree with you 100%. I have no idea how anyone can complain about the audio quality.
The audio quality on my Ultra is great. The in-call volume is sufficient and the sound is perfectly good both on both sides.
I just don't care about the speakers too much since I use headphones. I wouldn't even think about the idea of using a phone as a "stereo" by playing music through its speakers.
The audio quality through headphones is great too. I certainly agree that it provides high quality even for "mobile audiophile use".

I do hope the Bluetooth Headset (is it SBH52?) can keep up with the Good quality Audio... I don't want to plug in my headphones directly on the phone since the earphone jack's placement is awkward if you ask me.. It would be better if it was placed on the top edge and not on the side.
I use wired headphones, bluetooth headphones and headsets and stream audio bluetooth in my car. I don't really need or actually think that a phone's speakers are all that important so I am glad to have efforts focused elsewhere. I'd get a Jawbone Jambox or something similiar if I really needed good audio from speakers on the go.
I have a friend who has an HTC One and I agree they are the best speakers I have heard on a smartphone but I still think they are pretty crappy. I appreciate the speakers on my Nexus 10 but again I think it is a waste of time ever expecting good speakers on a small and slim device.

Well, I got that he was talking about the earpiece volume, but it also seemed he was saying that switching to the loud speaker didn't help either and I guess the thread evolved from there.
Anyway, a headset of some description should help in either case.
You're right though a couple of people did jump on him a bit harshly but it is pretty normal for people to get defensive about their devices.

I dont mind the sound, but make sure your ear is over the speaker on top. Its a big phone if you go to the right or left it will sound muffled. Maybe you are already doing this but if not try it. Night and day for me.
Nio doubt quality is great but speaker sound is not sufficient, atleast you guys agree on this despite the fact it is waterproof or what ever!!!!!!!

IMHO, the speakers are strictly average on loudness and clarity.......with V4A, I am able to squeeze out a little more out of them but at even mid volumes there are crackles. The sound (especially treble) sounds cheap and muffled. My evaluation is primarily by comparing this with my previous phone (Gionee M2) on which the sound was a lot punchier and fuller. Compare this with my wife's Lenovo Vibe P1 that overpowers anything else emitting sound in the house, it sounds like a whining wimp! hahaha! Wish it was possible to buy a spare and replace the speaker in H5X with the one on P1
Could be little bit loud.
The speakerphone isnt loud enough. Simple as that. I was going to get this phone for my dad, I had him test it out. He said he couldnt get the phone because the speakerphone isnt loud enough. I love this phone to the point of brainwash, but I had to accept his answer. What a shame.
During my months of usage, I would say that this phone's bottom facing speaker is very loud, to the point that if you are listening to different types of genres of music, it can be a little distorted when on the max volume to the point that it sounds very unpleasant to listen to, or like it is "crackling" sort of. But of course, in the stock music player app that comes loaded on the phone's EMUI, there is a equalizer option that you can turn on to adjust the bass and such other options to meet your sound quality that you are looking for.

its muddy at high volumes, tweaking some conrrols using poweramp helps a lil bit.
Not great
There is a notable distortion at high volumes
The speaker position was a bad design. I wish it was facing front.0
For vocals, the speaker gets the job done but for music, hell no! Its speaker produces slightly high pitched sound making it super bad for music. On full volume, there is slight 'sound-tearing' effect.

Actually I think it has more to do with the fact that the earphone speaker is literally under the glass. So you hear it whether your holding your ear to the back or the front of the phone. That and having a little resonance chamber improves the bass.

For dual speakers it's absurdly quiet, even ringtones and media playback is just pathetic
I think they are great. They replace easily tiny bluetooth speakers when you want some light music playing on the go, of course not very loud, but balance is good for such a small thing.
They are especially good for watching movies (netflix etc) on the go, in hotel or whatever. Quite happy with it.
Any sound MODs for N10+ yet? These can noticeably enhance the speaker/ ear-piece volume if done correctly.
Need the mixer_gain/_path.xml experts to figure it out & guide us.

I come from a note 8, thr speakers in this note10+ sounds way louder, enough for me, when I want more volume, I use any of the several bluetooth speakers I have, I have one that I carry around in my key ring, its a lithe cube 2 inches per side, it blasts 2x the volume relative to the phone, for louder sound I use a skullkandy speaker, very rugged, very loud for its size, btw I use it since my note4 !
Incredible loud rich crisp sound. The best I have ever heard in a smartphone.
