ROM Upgrade recommendations? - Note Edge Android Development

Like many others, I'm completely frustrated with random restart issues after the June security update for Marshmallow (6.0.1) on my N915P.
I would rather not downgrade to Lollipop, as several posts have suggested.
Can anyone recommend an easy-to-install Nougat ROM, or at least a more-stable Marshmallow ROM?

I'd have to recommend the ROM I use currently on my Canadian Note Edge. Which is the Resurrection Remix ROM made by micky387 which is also android Nougat (7.1.2)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3509295
And Since the ROM doesn't natively support the N915P you would need to flash micky387's TWRP version that will let you flash the ROM in the first place.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862722140
Flashing the TWRP and then the ROM should make the Rom install just fine. My phone isn't supported but I made it work

Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone know of a N915P (Sprint) version?

What is the need to root cm? It is an already rooted custom rom. Just go to developer settings and enable root..
Resurrection Remix
I've Moto E2 4g LTE with SKU version XT1521. I've been looking for many custom roms lately to update it to Android nougat. I reached the conclusion that Resurrection remix rom is stable (if I download official version of it). In addition, I only found nightly versions of other custom roms in which I'm least interested.
Now my question is.... Will my phone still remain VOLTE ie., will I not be needing Jio 4g voice app as I'm not needing it now; for calling, even after flashing RR?
I am in need of Moto-xt-1521 firmware for 6.0/mpi24.65-39-4/3 to unbrick my phone. It would be great if anyone can provide me with this version of the firmware.

Rom Question. S6 Edge - SM g925Z Japan Softbank.

I Have the SM G925Z Version of the galaxy s6 Edge [Japan SoftBank]
I See many Roms that say "Works with many g925 Versions !" but the Japanese Z Version is never listed anywhere.
only the F T U V P etc etc versions.
If I use TWRP 2.8.6.0 to backup my current Rom, can I try these other Roms and safely return to my Stock Rom
if cell or wifi service stop working? If I try 5.1.1 Roms, I can not return to 5.0.2 roms?
Can I use TWRP to install a 5.1.1 rom that I download, even while my current Rom is 5.0.2 ?
or can I only install Roms using Odin Flash tool ?
My ZTE Warp phone was able to install Roms from downloaded Zip files with TWRP.
But I am not 100 % sure about the process.

First the s6 edge is a different style of device. To install 5.1.1 roms on the device you have to be on 5.1.1. Same with 5.0.2. Yes you can try any rom from the s6 and the s6 edge rom so long as you flash a special kernal for your device that makes the rom work on your device. If cellular data does not work, revert to your nandroid backup of your origonal os and flash another rom and you'll be good if that one works. Just repeat if the roms dont work or if you get tired of it then just stick with your stock rom which should be your nandroid backup.

Thank you. I can understand this, except for the kernal part, please explain.
How can I backup my current Kernal so that I can return to my Stock Rom backup.?
will a TWRP Nandroid backup do that automatically ?
how do I install the correct Kernal? with TWRP ?
for example, from the ROM installation , it says
[5]Install Zip from storage
[6]Flash The Capsule ROM
[7]Flash arter97 kernel
[8]Flash SuperSU
[9]Reboot
Im assuming 5 means, copy the rom to the phone, 6 means use TWRP to install,
so flash the kernal after the rom ? with Twrp ?
how can I backup my kernal first? so that I can return to my 5.0.2.
and last question, you said I need to be on 5.1.1 to try 5.1.1 roms.
the Japan SM g925Z is a 5.0.2 rom atm, they never updated to 5.1.
most of the roms I see are 5.1.1
Does that mean there is no way to upgrade to 5.1.1 while on 5.0.2 ?
or does that mean, if I flash a new TWRP and 5.1.1 Rom, I can just never return to 5.1.1 ?
Does TWRP Mean Kernel ?
maybe that is what I am missing.
I already have a working TWRP.
some roms do not mention flashing kernels in the installation, some do,
does that mean it does not matter? or does that mean that the installation guide is terrible and people are going to brick ---- if they dont know about it ?
Im not exactly sure the difference between kernel and Rom.
To answer your first question, the nandroid backup you do in twrp backs it up because it is a required portion of your rom. Which also answers your second question as yes.
The answer to your third question is you have to find a flashable zip of a custom kernal for your device. You can also try restoring your boot from the nandroid which contains the kernal and if that one doesnt work flash the custom kernal zip.
Next i need a link to the rom your trying to flash to check it out.
The only way to install 5.1.1 roms is to be on that android version. The reason is that android uses an sdk platform and 5.0.2 uses sdk 21 and 5.1.1 uses sdk 22 so those are incompatable with each other.
No way to update that device to 5.1.1 unless it is released for that device or unless the hardware sources are released for aosp roms which may be a while where samsung has not released them yet due to the new Exynos processor that they recently created.
No twrp is your recovery but it backs up your kernal with the backup.
Those roms are for specific device varients and will work without installing a kernal because the kernal that it needs is for the devices they are meant for.
The others that say install kernals are ones that didnt have the kernal put in the rom zip.

Either that or they didnt modify the kernals in the rom zip to the specifacations that they wanted so they fixed it and posted the kernal.

thank you, that does explain alot.
I am not sure which Rom I should try. None of them actually say sm g95z.
Which roms would you recommend I try first?
I am not sure any will work, they all appear to be 5.1.1 only.
which means my 5.0.2 system can not test any of them.
or more specifically, if I upgrade to 5.1.1, and they fail to connect to wifi or cellular, then I can not return to 5.0.2 I guess.
Do you know of any that are 5.0.2 ?
those should be safe to try I guess.
I just want to get rid of the 500 retarded A-- Samsung apps that auto update.
I dont need Sfinder X_x, I dont need quick connect, I REALLY dont want virus protection from samsung clogging up my performance.
I have read about build.prop tweaks and updates, but the sm g925Z version did not get 5.1.1 updates, so those fixes do not work.
I do have Root access already, but with TWRP 2.8.6.0 (Because its said that it doesnt trip knox).
but I can not un-install these fkn bloatware apps, even with root access.
This appears to be a 5.0.2 Galaxy S6 Edge Rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...edge-g925fxxu1aocv-v1-0-deodex-aroma-t3102974
but it says G925FXX, my phone is G925ZZ
I should be able to test it, and return to my g925ZZ TWRP backup pretty easily right ? since it is 5.0.2 ?
Just to confirm for other people.
I tested the VNRom 5.0.2 for G920F
it ran like S--T.
I used TWRP backup to go back to Stock 5.0.2 just fine.
no problems.

I too have the same device and searching for the root access.
Please reply which twrp you used and SU file?
Please post link to the files well..
Oh yeah if you have the link to download the stock rom 5.0.2 for the device post it as well.
It will be great help.
Thanks..
I searched alot.
I did not find and roms that will work.
I did not find stock rom also.
Did backup my stock rom with twrp. I posted the links recently i think.

Hello, Have you found any compatible rom?

URLs for upgrading ROM?

I have rooted our Verizon S4 5.0.1 phones using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/samsung-s4-i545-verizon-of1-root-t3254434 .
I want to upgrade for security patches, etc. I see:
OCT-L-M6-FINAL-5.1.1-20151229-jfltevzw.zip
at
https://www.teamoctos.com/supported-devices/samsung/samsung-galaxy-s4/verizon-galaxy-s4-jfltevzw/ .
Where are links to update ROMs? I do have TWRP & Titanium on our phones. I can't seem to find some explicit links?
Do you suggest using the 5.1.1 ROM above, or waiting a few weeks for a possible Marshmallow ROM for our phones.
Thanks.
Lester

need some advice

Hi my step son has this phone running blisspop 5.1.1 I want to update his phone to marshmallow. Can I just flash the latest cm 13 or should I odin back to stock and update that way then go through the rooting process? Im not sure if the bootloader and radio and kernel should be updated the stock way first.
I do know with my note 2 I could just flash the latest cm and flash the radio seperate. But this phone is a little foreign to me.

Currently all the CM-13.0 based ROMs cannot boot with the official marshmallow bootloader. So it would be better to just clean flash the latest CM 13
Good thing I asked. I'm sure the cm team will figure that out at some point. It's actually the reason I asked because I remember on my note 2 going from JB mr1 to mr2 Samsung implemented Knox and sxrewed up everything. Dam girls phone was stock so I did the over he air update this morning. Oh well she doesn't really care anyway.
it's not like you'll wait long for CM to work with the latest bootloader https://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/146515
EDIT: it's not like you cant update either, just install CM13 WITHOUT updating stock (which will include the bootloader), aka if you're G900TUVS1FOL1 or older, then CM13 (marshmallow) should work as it has been for the last 5 months

Wanting to Upgrade to Nougat

My phone is currently using VipreOneM9 3.5.0, my Android version is 5.1 Lollipop, and my HTC Sense version is 7.0. My carrier (and thus where I got my phone) is Sprint.
I've rooted plenty, but I've never had to unroot or update, usually by the time I feel the need to upgrade my phone's version it's time to just upgrade my phone anyway. I'd like to upgrade to Nougat, but I'm not sure exactly what I need to do and I want to make sure I don't screw it up and possibly brick my phone. I'm also wanting to upgrade to ViperOneM9 6.0, and since it's such a big jump I was told to just treat it like a new install instead of an upgrade.

I've been on AOSP for awhile now, did the official HTC Nougat update finally drop for Sprint M9's?
For LineageOS 14.1 builds by @irocevo, you'll need to:
Have, at the very least, an unlocked boot loader
Have TWRP 3.0.3-0 installed
Since you're currently on a Sense ROM, start from scratch (wipe boot, system, data, etc)
Don't forget the Nougat 7.1 GApps for ARM64

I'm not sure if it dropped or not, but either way I would actually like to just upgrade in general to whatever my phone has at the moment!
I unfortunately don't have my original OS also, so I can't flash to it. :/

I'm not sure what your preference is when it comes to Sense vs AOSP, but until HTC's Nougat update drops, the very latest that I am aware of is the LineageOS 14.1 I mentioned.
You don't need your original OS for LineageOS.

The first thing you should do is install the latest stock update for your device. Then you can upgrade to the latest version of Viper or any other Nougat that has support for Sprint handsets.

Go to this thread, in this forum, [RUU][Firmware][Stock Rooted ROM]Sprint HTC One M9 | 3.41.651.41 | Updated 12.14.16. Download the RUU 3.41.651.41. Follow the instructions in the OP. To the best of my knowledge, this is the latest firmware for the Sprint M9. Run the RUU first, then the ROM and everything else.

Sprint has not released a Nougat rom as of this time, so no there isn't a completely stock Nougat rom. However, I have Sprint HTC M9 and I am running a Nougat rom. Update your firmware to the latest, see a post or two above this. It is critical that you are on the latest firmware. Then after flashing TWRP, go to the HTC M9 thread, not the Sprint M9 thread. There are a couple of different Nougat roms in that thread. I am running the Vipre V6, flashed it a couple of days ago.
