Using the fingerprint sensor in Tasker - Moto Z Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
i have a small question. Couldn't find a solution so far.
Is it possible to use the fingerprint sensor within Tasker? I simply want to turn off the display by pressing the fingerprint sensor. In Lineage OS this function is not available so i want to do it on my own.
Greetings and thanks,

I'm not sure about tasker, but this one worked for me: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep

This app works just fine. Friends told me about it already. But somehow it must possible to access the sensor within tasker or an java object. Just don't know where to look.

Ah yeah that would be ideal, maybe here: https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....e-custom-fingerprint-actions-with-tasker/amp/

igotya app

my friend found a new app in cydia on for his iphone 4 called igotya and i was wondering if we has a similar app for our phone available. its one of the best security apps for your phone i've seen. what it does is whenever someone tries to unlock your phone it takes a picture of them with the front camera and sends that as well as the exact gps location to your email address. i would love to be able to have an app like this for the atrix.
Gotya it's in the android market.

sweet thx, i'll check it out
I like the app as well; just wish that it supported the fingerprint scanner in addition to the PIN and pattern modes.
This is a duplicate thread, find the original and you will have more info about the fingerprint scanner.
Yes, I know about the original thread - that's how I came to know about the app. Too bad there's no SDK released yet to the dev community, as I use the scanner exclusively to unlock.
Actually there has been an SDK released, not sure if it could be applied to the GotYa, but it has been released.

Cool, that I didn't know. Hopefully Renaud has it and is coding support for the Atrix fingerprint scanner as I write this.

He said he would look into it if the SDK was made available, but i dont know if anyone has told him it is now. I asked about it when the app first came out, but decided (for me at least) it is not a needed feature. No one knows the phone has a fp scanner, and even if they do it wont work for them so they will try the numerical unlock.

Hi Tincore,
awesome idea you had there, and I am willing to test your app.
Tomorrow evening I'll receive a Polar Loop.
Could you please add in the first post what version of Android one needs to have?
AND, if you need to be rooted for the app to be tested?
I have a GT-I9305 (Samsung galaxy S3 4g) with stock Samsung android 4.4.4
If the second answer is no, I am willing to get my older (though fully working) rooted Nexus One Android 2.3.7, hoping it will work
Best of luck.

No root on this one.
About the Polar loop. If it uses the standard BT characteristics it can show the step count. The code is there but I have not tested it.
About other features I would probably need to reverse protocol for integration.

Crashes continually
After last update the application continually crashes and restarts. This can even lead to phone reboot. The one thing that helped is to delete application (this caused my phone to reboot). Android 4.3, MIUI 5.
This app made me register this account and buy a MiBand! Thanks for you work.
The Google Fit integration is amazing enough - but I was wondering if some integration - data import was possible from food logging apps like Myfitnesspal or others on the same tune.
Again, great job, I've already installed this on my phone.
Hi @tincore, JMo from Play Store and email here.
I'm on Mi Band firmware version 1.0.9.55 and I'm not aware of any problems but I'm not using all the features of the app yet. Happy to test for you if you want to tell me what to look for. You're welcome to email too if you prefer.
Never mind I got an answer.
Anyone explain what this means?

So, as of kind Admin note on http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-gliderun-alpha-t3057985/page28#post61197566 I shall ask my questions according to Gliderun OPEN BETA _here_, in this thread (no matter the main thread is more active and I found much more solutions there), shan't I? Okay, my question is how the calorie expenditure calculation is done. According to my Tanita body composition scales, my BMR is about 1200-1250 calories, but Gliderun thinks differently and according to Gliderun, I burn ~1000 calories daily even being active. Discouraging. Demotivating.

Calories estimation is just that an estimation. Makes no sense counting them with to the unit exactitude. Having said that 200 calories is two bananas.
For the record I use VO2 based formulas.
Hi,
Thanks for all the good work! I just have a question. I see that my step count gets updated only if I go to sensor/wear menu, select the miband 1s and then select refresh.
I mean it does not get updated by itself when I open the app or on time intervals, but only manually. Also the step count on the dashboard is a little different than in the sensor/wear menu. Is it normal behaviour or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks

It should update unless sensor tracking is disabled. In that case you would only get data if you synchronize.
It could also be that a band sensor is disabled and the one active is the one on the phone. You can see the active one on sensors screen.

I have not tested that module, but it seems similar. With Re-enable screenshot you can re-enable screenshot for selected apps and not only globally, don't know if that is the case in the other module.

Just added version 1.6 with "Invert Selection" as a donation feature.
I really like how this module is app specific. Thank you for working on this for us. My only suggestion is to add some unobtrusive horizontal graphics to the list of apps. On a large tablet, the distance from the enable button to the app name, and the uniform white space conspires against accurate selection. A minor detail, otherwise the app is perfect.
Im having an issue with another app that detects flag_secure status and just closes if it's not enabled. Is there anyway to bypass this detection on android?
The application is for accessing a database of practice test questions for medical students. They are trying to protect their intellectual rights, I get that. The preparation you get from them is leagues ahead of the competition. My colleagues and I all have our own subscriptions and like to share information over messaging about what questions we thought were particularly interesting and quiz each other. However, explanations are extremely nuanced and retyping full pages or drawing diagram's, while useful, only encumbers our discussion style and risks trascription errors. Being able to screenshot small tidbits is therefor paramount.
Much appreciated and much prefer this module to others that provide flag_secure disabling.

I've uploaded version 1.7 which fixes this. It was quite tricky, but it seem to work with your app now.
The app in question polled the LayoutParams.flags every second from a Thread to make sure the FLAG_SECURE was set.
Don't forget to donate or buy me a beer or two

Thanks for your feedback, however Re-Enable Screenshot is intended to enable you to take a screenshot in apps that do not normally allow a screenshot to be taken. It is not intended for prevention of screenshot detection.
Could you add (Un)Select as well as Invert Selection?
Where are screenshots being saved to?
Screenshots work as intended by your rom or version of android. Could differ by build etc. Screenshots can be found wherever your phone normally stores them.
This one actually works. Awesome!

Cubot Quest: HOW to remove Google search bar?

Hi, it seems search bar is locked in place on this device (Android 9 Pie). There is no obvious option to disable it.

I recommend just installing a third party launcher instead. I too found no easy way to remove it.
it's a fixed position widget starting from Android 8
sadly the only way to remove it is third party launcher ...
I had this problem too. Like said above, the problem is solved immediatly with a third launcher. I've taken Nova Launcher and it works perfectly.
Otherwise, if you don't want to install another launcher, you can try this method : https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
For a complete lists of your package, you can use the app : "App Inspector" on the playstore.
I did this for all google app. For the search bar, it didn't work fully but it was better than without this tip. I read that, for some people, it worked fully.
Hope you will succeed to remove it!

I saw some guides but I didnt try to root this phone because I dont have a need for it, especially since the phone is already stock Android 9 where you can simply use adblocking DNS from within the Network settings.
Im generally satisfied with it, but proximity and finger sensors tend to misbehave sometimes, maybe its too sensitive to dust or dirt, I dont know.
My phone has V11 firmware, no updates available through the update manager, but there should be V13 available.

yeah it's true that you can replace a lot of root's features with third app's with this phone but it will be cool for me to have full access for more fun! Like totaly uninstall some apps useless for me, more customisation etc etc...
But it's really cool like it is now!
With mine : I don't have trouble witj proximity sensors but fingers sensors react weirdly, indeed. I think your hypothesis is the answer : it's too sensitive to dust and dirt.
The light sensor is a little bit weird too, but I think it's due to an android feature : user'shabits learning. Weird at the beginning, but works good after.
In my case, I have the V13 firmware (install directly via Cubot's website). I don't think it will be more update later...
One question : Do you know if this phone works well in USA? I see that it has some US's band so I think so , but I would like a confirmation
I received message from Cubot support that there are no significant or important changes in V13, so I'll leave it at that.
I also noticed phones behavior and sensitivity of sensors has changed over time, maybe it's that habit learning you mentioned..
I'm in Europe, so I can't say if it works in US. Shouldn't be too hard to find out.
I'm generally satisfied with this phone, as I tend to drop it a lot (relatively speaking) and it holds together well, and the software support+performance is satisfactory as well.
@urpi_ > Thanks for the feedback Happy to share with a Quest's owner, there aren't many
Like you, I've dropped it sometimes and the shakeproof it's real! I haven't test yet the waterproof. I will do it this summer
In very good points, I found GPS, Wifi and bluetooth respond very quick and well!
For the GPS, even in a remote location, the Quest fixes very quick
And the blutooth works very well with my earplug, even in running.
For the price, it's a very good smartphone, I'm happy with it too
Since when do you have this phone? I have it for 5 months nearly.

That's one of the reasons I would like to root it. Like you, this functionnality annoys me, although this button is very usefull . It's too bad that we can't configure it like we want and with a root, it would be possible.

Yeah, I have used Key Mapper ( https://github.com/sds100/KeyMapper ) to change normal press (no root required) but I haven't found a way how change long-press behavior. Perhaps it's possible with Key Mapper too, and I just didnt find it?? Maybe.
@urpi_ > Thank you for the share, I will try it and search too if we can do something for long press configuration!
But for the normal press, you can already choose any application in settings. So, what does keymapper moreover?
Otherwise, about the fingerprint sensor:
I re-saved my fingerprints but differently :
Without perfectly clean up the sensor, like "out in the pocket" 's mode ( ) and with the "soft" part of the finger.
Before I saved it with the very extremity of the finger. This time, I used this "soft" part (a little bit under the top extremity of the finger) and with the finger kept flat.
It works pretty better now! Maybe it could make it work better for you too
Im pretty satisfied with the fingerprint sensor now, but yeah it can be probably fine-tuned to work better with this phone, like you said.
You can choose any application for normal (side-key) press, but I wanted to map it to something other than applications.
I used KeyMapper to make it a Pause/Play key for media.

So I tried this app and I think I found for the long press mode.
When you are on the window for creating a new macro, clik on "more" and then choose "long press"
After, you click on "record trigger" and push the button you want to configure, then choose the action you want.
I tried for launching an app, it worked well
But I tried for togglethe torch and it crashed the app. ANd then, the app didn't work at all, I had to reinstalled it
Hope it will help you
By the way, can you tell me what does "Data protection" setting do exactly? I see it under Security & location - Advanced menu.
I know it asks for a security entry pattern, but what for? Phone is supposed to be encrypted by default.
Yeah good question! I wonder too and I never enter a pattern for this. I think it is an android protection by default, but there are another protection too. By the way, I think there is too much protection

No update available for my phone. Still at February security update from 2019.
Strange, maybe you should visit the official website? If you do this, be careful : I've done the update via this way because the direct OTA way didn"t work. If the OTA's way is just an update; via the official website, it's a total reset, so, backup before doing this way

[Magisk]Enable Photochrom filter for IN2020 model

This Magisk module is using system prop to trick the system into thinking it is an "IN2023" device
so it won't block the photochrom filter for "IN2020" device
If your photochrom filter is disabled, this might help.
YOU WILL NEED MAGISK FOR THIS TO WORK
Simple 2 step:
- Install Magisk
- Download & Install this module
Download: https://gofile.io/d/njpMtU
If you don't want the device be IN2023, you could change the 'fake_model' in to model you want in the 'post-fs-data.sh' file
This Magisk module is using the same method as: Enable photochrome on IN2020
Thanks kevkid for finding this.
Edit: Will not work for INT.10.5.11/EU.10.5.10 firmware, can't seem to get a fix for now, join the discussion at [Discussion]How to re-enable full Photochrom on INT.10.5.11/EU.10.5.10
it may test next night

You bought a £1000 phone for a filter that has very little purpose?
You can get a lens for a DSLR for a lot less.
**** I have a in2023 device and it's blocked

Totally agree...who in their right mind buys a phone just because of a filter?

I use it for example for detecting the right positioning of photoelectric sensors at work. It was a great and convenient tool past then. And if you buy a 1000€ phone, you could expect all features to work and not get disabled because you maybe potentionally "could" see some undies. If I knew that, I'd rather go with a Mi 10 Pro.
