Content lock disappeared with android 7 - UMi Z Questions & Answers

When I first got my umi z I was able to lock pictures by going to 'security' and there was an option called something like 'data protection', through which I could lock files and view locked files. It seemed like a long winded way of doing it but was the only way I could find. However, since the android 7 update, this option has disappeared and there now seems to be no way of locking files. I also cannot find the files I locked before the update. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks

Ok I'm guessing nobody knows the answer. So can you lock files at all?

[Q] Some basic questions from a new S2 user

Hey guys
Ive just upgraded from to the Galaxy s2 (from an HTC desire) and first impressions are that i love it. I have a few q's that i hope some people can help me with:
1. On my home screen, i cant change/move the very bottom line of apps (phone/contacts/messaging/applications). Is there anyway to switch these out with something else (a different app)?
2. HTC has friend stream which is a full page widget showing all your facebook/twitter updates. The s2 has social hub, but is there anyway to show this in a full page widget?
3. Is it possible to assign an option to long press the (soft) back button? The menu button already brings up google search, and quite simply i want long press back to bring up voice search
4. The interal storage (12gb or something like that) current shows as USB storage, which prevents me from moving apps across to it. Any way to rectify this?
5. I have already rooted my phone. Will i still be able to take OTA updates without any problem? (something you couldnt do on a rooted HTC)
6. Any way to stop the default internet browser from opening websites in mobile view? Ive seen a workaround which only lasts the session, but just wondering if theres a permanent one (dont want to use opera as it doesnt have flash working/working well yet).
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

I'll try my best, here goes..
1. Open the app drawer by pressing the home icon on the dock-->press menu then edit. Now you can drag any icon you wish to the dock then hit menu again and save.
2. I don't think there is a social hub widget (at least I don't) but you can download a third party app/widget that will be similar to friends stream.
4. The internal storage is always under "usb storage" in settings/storage. What are you trying to move?
5. Yes, as long as you don't change your firmware.
Hey
thanks for your help Im just trying to move some apps which ive downloaded across to the sd storage but it keeps telling me im out of memory. Im guessing this is because i havent yet added my own microsd, but thats on the agenda for tomorrow
Your welcome. You got it, once you install an external sd you will be able to move files to and from the internal storage.
I'm using Opera, and the flash seems to work fine for me so far, might be worth trying it (especially since it's free).
does seem to be working now...its been a long time since i last tried it
sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone else notice that when you put apps into a newly created folder (for example I have one called favourite apps) and the icons within that folder have moved around....you know how you by habit press a couple of buttons and bam your in xda well because these moved around I launched dilbert! not that this is critical but just wondered if anyone else notices this behaviour?

[Q] Disable Lock Screen

I have almost everything how I want it now... However there are some things that are still niggling at me about how the Nook operates. I fell in love with CM7 and the ability to completely disable the lock screen.
I can't find a way to do this on the rooted stock rom that I am using. There are a few apps, but while they turn it off for a little while they don't keep it turned off and it randomly enables itself again.
Does anyone know a solution - note I am alright with modifying APK files somewhat if that is required, I don't know where to start though and certainly would rather have a software solution that I didn't need to modify APK files for.

Disable "Slide to Unlock" on Android 2.3

Hello,
My question is in subject. My phone is Xperia Arc S, android version 2.3.4 Phone is rooted.
Now, I think I used ALL utilities there are to keep that damn unlock slide from appearing every time I turn my phone on. "No lock", and all that stuff, a lot. But all of those apps fail from time to time which makes me mad. Why the unlock exists at all?! A stupid invention of apple. WM didn't have it and was just fine.
Anyway. Is there a way to kill that unlock once and forever?! I guess editing some file with Root Explorer might help (did so already to prevent my Arc from waking up by "home" button - just edited some "keyboard.txt" file in text editor). Something like that, a real hack, not an app again, I guess those apps get kiled sometimes by system, no matter what... so they fail accidentally.
Thanks!!!
P.S. Did search on this forum but only found couple more apps... which also didn't work 100%...
Check out Disable Lock Screen on Google Play
I can disable it in settings but i dont know if that is possible in gb

ics 4.0.4 rooted

Regain access to old data of mine

//Sorry for double posting. This same text is in the S7 section aswell, but i think it will get more attention here
Hey Guys
Im in a bit of a situation here
It sounds a bit odd, but when making up my electronic stuff, i dug out my old Galaxy S7 and several other phones and i got a bit nostalgic about those times and what i did back then.
So i started charging them up and scrolling to the photos and messages of that time. (im not the type of guy who has everything synced, i mostly start from scratch on a new phone).
However on this device, i was not able to figure out the PIN Code nor the Google Account i was using back then.
So i am now trying to get access to this data by working around the pin code or something like that.
I thought that with the ADB shell i could do this and i found some hints on google about it. However as it looks, you need to have USB debugging enabled to get the shell access. Which of course i haven't and i cannot set as i am not able to get into the system the usual way.
There is no custom recovery or similar flashed on the device. Stock. I might even have wiped it back then but just curious And searching solutions for problems like that is in my nature.
So does anyone know a way how to get there?
I am not interested about the os or something, just my old personal data.
Is unlocking through odin still a thing? and can i get a custom recovery on the device that way WITHOUT loosing the data on the phone? so through that recovery i cloud get a shell to bypass the lockscreen?
Or is there just no solution to that?
I found that there is some SD Card installable flashes to bypass the lockscreen, but here i would first have to buy an SD Card. Since this is just a project i dont want to waste money. Do you guys know if this works for sure? I mean, can i even install this tool without a custom recovery? I have the menu option to apply updates from sd card in the standard recovery, just not sure if this does the trick.
Any other approach?
And yeah, i would probably find it out one day by just trying the codes, but it locks you for 60 minutes after every try now, so this would take ages ^^
no clues?

Remove / Reset PIN on Rooted Device?

Hey folks,
OK, I'm just a little bit out of my depth here, so here it goes!
This probably sounds dodgy, but it is what it is: my daughter's phone (rooted HTC Desire 816) appears to have been "hacked" by someone at her school - whether its a prank gone wrong or she's a victim of bullying, we don't know and now we're dealing with the fallout.
By hacked what I mean is that the person or persons have somehow managed to find out my daughter's PIN and have then used it to gain access to her phone. Once in, they have turned off the custom lock screen installed (Hi Locker) and turned on the default lock screen and set a PIN which we don't know. Obviously, we're trying to get back into it without wiping it and don't know how to except for trying all 10,000 combinations!
So yeah, does anyone know how I might be able to go about getting back into the phone quicker than trying all 10,000 combos of PINs!?
Like I said, it is a rooted device; I was the one who initially set the phone up for my daughter. So its running TWRP and through TWRP I've been able to do an 'ADB Pull' request and dump the contents of external_sd and sdcard to my laptop so that at least that much data is preserved. I've also backed up the mmssms.db so that hopefully I can restore these databases if needs be. My daughter would like to not have to wipe the phone as she can't remember what other data (if any) might be lost if we do and I said I would try all other avenues before it gets to that.
Anyhow, I thought I would reach out to the community to find out if there is some way that I might be able to disable the lock screen or at least initiate some sort of backup process from the lock screen that would enable us to reset the lock screen. If not: such is life. But, if there is something that could be done, well, that would just be absolutely fantastic.
Thanks in advance folks for your responses and time.
Kind regard,
Dodgy Bob.
Hi folks,
After a bunch of further digging through random blogs and YouTube videos and whatever else, I happened across this site which pointed out a couple of different tricks that hadn't popped up on other sites I had come across. These were:
Safe Mode Option; and
adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key
Safe Mode Option didn't work for me, because it wasn't the 3rd party lock screen app that was the issue.
However, the gesture.key option did work for me, albeit with a couple of tweaks! Gesture.key wasn't present because the phone is running a newer version of Android, v6.0 (I had forgotten this!), so I had 2 gatekeeper files and 3 db files -and- rather than deleting them, I added .orig to the file names. Once I had done this, I rebooted back into System from Recovery and ta-da, I was back into the phone!
Big thanks to @Helloworld294 for this post here which I found after searching more due to reading this page.
It's all worked out in the end.
Kind regards,
Dodgy Bob
