This isn't a real big deal but it's annoying.
My S5 (SM-G900T) is rooted and has been since about two months after I bought it new.
It's running on stock everything 6.0.1
Baseband G900TUVU1GQC2
Kernel 3.4.0-7500527
A couple months ago I had to do a factory reset as well as flash a new stock OS because it set itself in Emergency mode and wouldn't open. Oh, and I really rooted using Odin on a PC.
Ever since that happened a lot of my third party apps, that I want and have installed in my external SD card don't stay there. Always after a reboot or restart. I'm pretty sure they aren't or can't move any other time on there own.
Its really annoying because they are my largest apps (of course) and my internal memory has only a couple of G's of memory left and when these apps jump ships my phone won't let me download anything etc....
Its my backup phone so its not crucial but, driving me nuts.
How can I keep the apps where I want them? I've used ROM Manager to direct apps to the external SD card by force and obviously it's not helping, even on new installs it doesn't force to the external SD like it should. That's another topic for another place.
Some help would be really cool and much appreciated

Ok so I have been on the phone all afternoon with verizon tech support and HTC support and i have gotten no where I apologize if this problem has been solved b4 i did extensive searches with no luck so here goes.
MY Stock Unrooted Thunderbolt is losing site of the apps that have been moved to my sd card on boot. So basically i have a majority of my apps on my tbolt saved to sd card to save space on the actual phone. Some of the apps were moved manually through the applications and others were moved using ZDbox as they were installed and moved. My phone has been this way for sometime with no problem. Now about 3 days ago my phone was acting really slow and just not working properly showing signs it needed to be rebooted so i rebooted it and once done booting i went to my apps and found several of the apps missing from my app drawer as well as the shortcuts on home screens. So verizon referred me to HTC who is blaming it on ZDbox they claim zdbox corrupted the app files somehow when it moved it to the sd card and if i uninstalled that they claim the problem should be solved. However I cant remove ZDBox due to my sd card not showing up that program seems to still be on the phone its self so it should be able to uninstall it but it just locks up when i try
now i could go on and on and on with what i have done but i was hopeing someone here maybe had a similar situation or knew of a way to fix this problem. I have the SD card backed up and all the app files are showing in the location they are suppose to be in but i just cant understand what would cause his problem.
ANY help would be great and i hope im not coming off as a noob i have been troubleshooting this for several days and do consider my self to be knowledgeable in this area but i have surpassed my experience with no luck and I am here hoeping someone out there has an idea !!!!

oh ya almost forgot verizon claimed a htc rep told them its a known problem and to just keep powercycling the phone and eventually it will see the apps but i never got them to say that to me they wanted to point straight to the third party app zdbox even after i told them not all the apps were moved by that app.
I was having a similar problem with my stock vzw galaxy tab I factory reset it and reinstalled only a select applications and seemed to solve it but i dont think i have that many apps on my tbolt (i had over 150 on my tab)
sounds like you have corruption on your sd card. I would pull it out of the phone, connect it to a pc and run a scandisk on it and let it correct any errors. Then I would back it up to the pc. After this I would put it back into the phone and see if the apps show up. If not, I would hound verizon or htc for a new sd card or new phone, their choice.
A friend of mine had the same issue and the only solution was to get rid of zdbox. The issue is:
The phone is not rooted and apps that get moved to the memory card that do not allow it natively will not show up (usually after a reboot) because the original location is not available when the phone or app looks for it.
To move them properly even most apps not meant to move, you have to root.
He also wound up having to reformat the sd card.
I would say to try the suggestion above and maybe you will have luck that way but my friend had to just leave the apps that dont move to sd on the phone. He still wont root even after he sees my phone and loves the things I can do with it.
Not sure why people are obsessed with moving Apps to the SD card. I put games on there but otherwise all the rest of my 100+ Apps are on the phone and I still have 1.7gb of free phone space.

So if you are moving all of your apps to your SD card, what are you actually using your internal storage space for? I think doing that on a phone like the Thunderbolt isn't usually worth it. Combined with the problems moving the apps can cause, there really isn't much point to it.

I had a HTC Touch HD ("Blackstone" I think it was) about 4 years ago, rommed it with forum help but still wound up not liking the device so I got rid of it shortly thereafter and went back to simple candybar phone. Got an international/unlocked Galaxy S3 about three weeks ago and it is my first smartphone since then and my first Android phone! Very happy so far but I have several questions so far for some minor irks.
1. Memory management - I am using the GO task manager and my memory usage is regularly between 70%-90%. It's also annoying that the device has 1gb of RAM but it shows up as 779m. Is this high usage normal? I'm guessing it is due to a lot of stock boatware which leads me to my next point.
2. Startup app management - I have tried several apps that promise to manage startup applications but nothing seems to work very well. The best one I've seen so far is Startup Cleaner 2.0 but still things like Google Talk, TripIt and some games still start even though I select them to be disabled on startup. Is there a better utility or is this a weird thing with Android or ICS?
3. Bloatware - Is there a way to uninstall the stock bloatware I don't use like Google Talk, Google+ or ChatON?
4. SD card - I purchased a Sandisk 64gb Micro Ultra SDXC memory card and slapped it in. It shows up when I connect the phone to my PC and I have been transferring files and storing camera pics with it successfully. However, the one thing I can't seem to do is move any apps to it. It seems any program that is supposed to move apps to the SD card doesn't recognize it. For example, in "App 2 SD" it states: "The Device does not have a real primary external storage, or the primary external storage is emulated. Moving app to SD function may not be supported by this device."
5. ROMs - I did some poking around and it sounds like the Omega might be best for an Android n00b. Does this strip out a lot of the bloatware? Any significant pros/cons of using this over the stock ROM?

Never use task manager, let RAM work for you

Can't move any apps to external anymore,as far I know, you can Bind it data only

Best striped ROM is CheckROMv2, any stock apps you need can download from kitchen.

Think the last guy covered most things but a couple of thing to add.
You don't need titanium backup or even root to remove apps as Ice Cream Sandwich allows you to disable unwanted apps right from the application management menu. The only system apps you aren't allowed to disable are ones which will break your phone, so you can safely freeze unwanted crapware without worrying about breaking anything.
I'm not entirely sure it's a good idea to start with custom roms straight away, maybe you should spend a week or two on stock and playing with what I mentioned above to learn a bit about Android before you dive into the world of root.
Also never listen to anyone when they say this, that or the other Rom is best. There are many great developers on xda and what suits him or me may not suit you.
At any rate my experience with past androids is that performance and battery life aren't all that different between the roms, it's usually only small tweaks here and there which are visible to the user. For example some will remove certain apps or the boot sound. The exceptions would be roms built from source like Cyanogenmod, Aokp and Miui. These feel very different to the Galaxy S stock Rom, although Cyanogenmod and Aokp feel quite similar to each other.

About stock Galaxy S3, yeah good enough for casual users. Some user didn't like bloatware, many can't be deleted and need permission to do that. Peace.. ^_^

That's right you can't delete them but a new feature of ice cream sandwich is that you can freeze them. It's basically the same thing titanium backup does but it works on stock unrooted devices.

If you ignore the various themed components of custom roms then after my tests their is no real diffrence between any of the custom roms as they basically all have the same inside . Advantage over stock almost nil .
Of course custom roms and custom kernels are at a very early stage of development for the SGS3 so far .

Hi everyone, I have one question regarding my Xperia Mini Pro sk17i.
1 month back i could have easily moved large amount of my newly installed apps to SD card without any problem. But recently whatever I install, I just cannot move it on SD anymore. I understand there are many apps that cannot be moven, but whatever i tried to install (randomly) from Google store just stays on my phone and option to move it to SD is blank (unavailable). Now, I'm wondering is this something that happens frequently, or have I maybe done something that somehow blocked that function?
I'll note this app (which previously when i had no problem moving apps from phone to SD or other way around wasn't installed):

I've searched but nobody seems to have my particular problem. I moved a bunch of Apps via App2Sd from my Phone to my SD card, thinking it would help eliminate the "Insufficient storage device" error that kept popping up. It did the trick, but my phone became insanely slow as a response...and it periodically reboots every 1-3 minutes. I'm not quite sure what I did - or rather, how exactly moving Apps to my SD card could wrought such havoc on my phone. My phone is not rooted, and I have not made any effort to modify it beyond the normal means. Could anyone assist me? I'd appreciate it.

I have a very vague recollection of the stock recovery but I believe there is a way to wipe CACHE (not DATA) from it. Try that first.
Also, If you're not rooted then that app is not doing anything you can't already do on the stock rom. I would try moving the apps back and then get rid of that app. You can move individual apps through phone settings > applications. That app only moves apps that can already be moved by stock Android.
If all else fails you may be looking at a factory reset. That's the crummy thing about an unrooted phone, if something goes wrong you don't have many options.

I can't specifically remember, but I moved almost everything. It's likely that I moved my launcher, GoLauncher. As for widgets, I only have one widget, BusinessCalendar, and since that doesn't function from the SD card (as far as I know), I left it there.
In the end I removed my SD card and, predictably, the phone worked just fine. I wanted to avoid it, but I guess I'm just gonna mount and clear my SD card.

For some reason it seems not much people know that if all your apps are on your INTERNAL it will be extremely faster. The UI throughout the phone will significantly increase. Guarantee you that.
The phone has to locate read the app from the SD then boot it save data on SD= lag.
As above, and some apps do not play well on the external sd even though they can be put there. I'm pretty sure the launcher should be on the internal sd.
If you really are out of space on the internal, then only move one, or a small number of apps to external, and then only one at a time, to see the effects. Also, choose the ones you use the least.
I'd suggest you move everything back to the internal memory and see if the phone functions normally again. If so, then move apps to external as I mentioned above. If not, you may have to wipe data/factory reset and set everything up all over again.
What ROM are you running? I recommended flashing something light and tight to improve your overall experience. Try Ethereal, or Vagabond for that matter. Light GB ROMs, and super stable.

Hello Everyone.
I own a Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830) and until 2 days ago i was running a CM7 on it until it suddenly just stopped working and the phone hung in some kind of boot loop. That's when i decided to "upgrade" to a newer version of CM and searched for everything necessary.
I tried some CM11 alpha but since it's pretty unstable (at least the version i had was) i tried others until i settled for a stable 10.2 version (cm-10.2-20140309-UNOFFICIAL-cooper++). So far i am pretty happy since it actually is running very smoothly on my phone and i did not expect that at all. But then i ran into the same issue that basically everyone owning this phone runs into - it's very limited internal space.
Fact is i do need some google apps since i'm using gmail and synchronizing my contacts through it. Also i want to use Whatsapp, basically the only reason for me having a smartphone right now. I Installed the Dolphin Browser aswell since a decent browser is also something i'd like to use from time to time, but it seems to be full on external anyways so it should not count towards the internal storage.
Problem is now, all that is already too much for the phone's internal storage to handle since whatsapp has to stay on internal - at least that's my experience - and the google-play services that are needed aswell are placed on internal too without option of moving them.
I tried some things but basically all of them failed on one or another weird way..
- titanium backup - uninstalled system apps that i am not using (radio, browser, google play voice things, etc.) but after a reboot they were all back again. Even before rebooting, uninstalling them seemed not to open up space at all.
- Link2SD - tried linking whatsapp to my SD card, failed since whatsapp wasn't running very stable anymore. If anyone has a solution for this i'd love to hear it!
- App2SD - didn't even show any internal apps, and wasn't helping at all.
Also something i've tried, i have a message backup for whatsapp that's ~14mb but lies on my SD card. Problem seems to be that Whatsapp on recovering these messages put's them somewhere on the internal storage, at least it takes those ~14mb away from it after it recovered them. I tried to change the path whatsapp uses for internal storing of data with the app 'FolderMount' (like i found tutorials on the internet for exactly this issue) but wasn't even able to locate the internal stored data :/ Not because i just didn't find it, but because it seems not to exist...
I know i can't really increase the size of the internal storage but i think there has to be something i can do. I can't even update whatsapp since i am just living on the edge of the "low storage space" message with 20-15mb left.
What i am hoping now through this thread is to get some ideas or options how i could free up some space, move some apps around to SD maybe (utilize Link2SD correctly) or in the end basically have the things i need but some free storage on internal so that i can use my phone, maybe even install apps on SD (without them touching internal space) and have some room to update the important apps like whatsapp.
