J7 Pro 2017 - Battery Life Thread - Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) Guides, News, & Discussio

Hi All,
I bought this beauty 4 days ago. Used a fully charged cycle ending last night. 49 hours Standby and 5 hours SOT. Sleeps like a charm and works like a beast.

I got 48 hrs standby ( 4.5 hours call) and 6.5 hrs SOT. battery is very good

Did you use AOD feature? While in dark room, does your entire screen has low visible backlight when using samsung native AOD?

good battery life, moderate use

Didn't use AOD. Heard that AOD consume batter a bit. But haven't tried it yet.

Since this phone don't have LED indicator, I used AOD as replacement for notification. Actually, it's consume not much battery. With average usage I can get around 1 ~ 1.5 days of with SOT around 7 hour, with AOD automatically enable between 7am to 10pm.
The problem is, with AOD enable if I put it in dark room I can see a noticeable low visible light coming from the display panel. Even tho it's not hurt battery so much, it's not pleasant to the eye. With AMOLED, black background should be true black.
I have 2 unit of Galaxy J7 pro, both have the same issue. That is why I'm asking if you or other owner is having the same problem. Could be caused by Samsung's AOD implementation...

Noticeable only if the AOD is dimming...

As it has 3600mah battery its nice

Getting better and better. Turned into 4G and now battery better that before. Completing the third day now. 6 hrs SOT

At the moment I'm using Always on AMOLED app now and it's nice, though I'm not sure about battery usage.

Already tried that apps. Battery drain is worst than stock AOD

Actually this one is not bad, in fact it's quite all right with all the customizations. The problem is that it is closed by the system automatically. I gave the app special permissions so the battery optimizations do not affect it, yet again it is closed

battery usage and performance

I was hoping to get a good idea on how the HTC One manages battery life. Day one and so far I've talked for an hour, sent multiple text messages and browse the web for around an hour. I'm still running with about 85 percent battery life which seems awesome. I've noticed there's some options for saving on push to email along with energy saver which is built into the phone. Would some other users report feedback from on their battery life performance??

Can you report do you have power save on from the power options or energy saver.
I know energy saver turns your data off after you idle for more than 15 minutes and the power saver option I have on ( only the display and the cpu settings are on) help. The cpu one throttles your cores to 1.1ghz and the display one lower maximum brightness down.

Mine arrived with around 68% yesterday and I used the hell out of it. I went to sleep with it at 19% (11:30pm) and woke up to 11% (8:30am) so I killed it down to 4% and plugged it in around 10am. It finished charging about 45 minutes ago and it's dropped down to 93% in the time off the charger with virtually no screen on time. I hope it just takes a few cycles and that the sudden drop is only part of conditioning.

do notice he had the sleep mode on. which says it turns off data during long periods of idle. i'd have to see how this works with push mail and the such since if data is off how does it push mail?
i have the power saver option on currently though

As long as the screen is off/phone is idle, it doesn't. It will deliver once the device has been woken up.

Although I haven't used it for a long time, JuiceDefender may give you options to turn data on every so often just to grab whatever is new.
i think its ok. with the power saver on it should keep my battery level high enough. hell i havent even tried a full charge usage yet so we'll see how this goes.
thanks for the info though

I use it on my Amaze, and you are correct. I turn my screen on every hour for 5 minutes. The Amaze is ICS, but hopefully my One will work the same.
With heavy use throughout the day, I had 20% over the 10.5 hour work day without any battery saving options aside from smart email delivery. I've also noticed that automatic brightness isn't the best. (figures since I've had auto brightness issues with all if my phones)
In going to use power saver all day (working hours)tomorrow and post results.

Does auto brightness keep your screen unusually bright at all times too? I've pretty much disabled it unless I'm leaving anywhere outside.

The funny thing is that HTC is getting a lot of praise for their implementation of auto brightness on this phone. Personally, I feel like it's drastically overdoing it.

So far, Auto Brightness is fine and very responsive for me. No complaints. Battery life seems fine so far also.
Auto brightness and turned power saver on at 15 percent. Took some pictures, gamed, watched YouTube, listened to music, and browsed the Web. I basically just used my phone as I normally would while doing nothing special to save the battery.

my usage (6 hours of me asleep, LOTS of spotify, some video), i love this batt coming over from nexus s.
Battery so far seems GREAT
This is a screenshot of my new HTC ONE. It wasn't charged to 100% more like 86% and with moderate usage. As of this post I am currently at 39% battery. I don't have power save on. I have automatic brightness own, auto sleep. Been on wifi the whole time all features are turned on(sync,gps,etc..). I love it so far no hardware issues perfect!!

Best battery performance kernel

I am currently running debloated stock .305.
I am not overwhelmed by the battery performance. my z3c with slim rom was much better.
So i wonder if i could flash another kernel and improve the battery performance.
So if you guys have some experiences that they will share i would appreciate it.
thanks in advance for any reply.

I'm on the xpower rom and it's weird: during 8h of sleep it only lost 1% of battery, after 10 minutes of browsing and whatsapp it lost 10% of battery. Unacceptable, "screen" is taking most of the battery as there doesn't seem to be any other battery intense app.
Does anyone have any idea?
Sounds like you have 10% drain in 8 hours with light use. That's 1.2% per hour. I think that's pretty usual... And yes, screen should be the most demanding component unless you don't really use the phone. Try lowering the brightness, the effect is almost exponential

Not really, I have 1% over night (which is great) but then 10% in 10 minutes as soon as I start using it (just browsing the net).
I would assume it's just not getting the levels right just after sleep, in fact you've lost 8% and another 2 while using it.

you think so? I rebooted it several times and it would always show the same %, only to drop drastically as soon as I used it. It's really weird to see the battery going down while using it for just a couple of minutes.
Battery % is always a guess.
It would be much better to actually use the device for a few days and then deduce how much battery time you get according to your own usage.
Im using XPower as well and notice the same issue. Battery can last forever screen off but then drains quickly when on.

Battery Drain and heating after Color OS update for August Security Patch

Does anyone facing this problem of battery drain and heating of device after August Color OS Update.
Standby drain is 4-5 % per hour and screen on time is less than 5 hours.
I checked all the settings uninstalled all apps and checked the network settings, rebooted, checked in airplane mode also but the battery drain is the same.
Even while charging it is going more warm than before. If anyone is facing the issue please respond.
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom has very less reach to people and Oppo is not bothered about its device.

When I got the Mobile the first thing I did was update the patch.....so I am unaware of before and after stuff.....but It got heated only once while downloding and charging simultaneously (41°c). Also it gets a bit heated while charging when the AC / fan in the room is off(I guess that's normal).
From my past mobile experiences, a reset could help u out (take backup of data before reset).
U could also check in Battery setting which app is consuming more power.

Yes and daily its different app and just which app i use more thats only showing
And also when i check whole days power consumption , highest is whatsapp with 11 percent and the total mah used is 218mah for a whole day.
So, if 218 percent is 11 percent a whole day and consider i charged once fully, total for 100 percent is around 2000mah.
So where the rest 2000 mah is going, and its going when the screen is off.
I dont know what to do.
I have worse problem than this. Battery is draining at 10% per hour rate. And strange thing is that even if I switch off mobile, it will drain battery with same rate. May be hardware problem.

Battery life - discussion

How are people finding this huge 5000mah battery?
In all honesty, I was expecting a little better performance. Perhaps it's still too early to tell but I'm on my 3rd battery cycle, have "balanced" battery mode active, power saving feature applied to most apps other than essentials, don't have Facebook installed etc. Have rooted and also Universal Doze for magisk installed.
I'm currently on 10% with 5hr30min SOT. Granted, I have been listening to Spotify today but over WiFi.
Just doesn't seem to be blowing me away and not feeling like my battery is 25% bigger than my previous Xperia 1 ii, with the exact same setup/general usage. If anything feels the same size, maybe even less?!
Used BetterBatteryStats and nothing seems out of place there.
Will continue to monitor. Still extremely happy with this phone.
Hmm so quick update, I had Dual WiFi (blend of 2g/5ghz network) enabled previously however today it's now disabled.
I'm currently on 45 mins SOT and still at 97% battery!!
Anyone else any experience with this? I haven't changed any apps but seems this setting may have been the cause of high drain for me....
Will continue to monitor....
My battery life has been pretty good after a few cycles
Not bad. I keep it on mobile data most of the time. And i charge it only to 90% with a 500mAh charger. And i do have Facebook app, a Garmin smart watch and many synced accounts that run in the background
Not bad at all IMO. Received the phone today and it was at around 40 percent. Haven't charged yet. Refresh rate is on auto.

Overall, yeah I'm very happy with this phone.
Comparing the two:
- the speakers were better on the Xperia, front facing always wins as avoids you accidentally covering the bottom firing one up on the Zenfone plus the top earpiece one isn't great. But, it's still good enough and they sound decent to keep me happy
- the less wider feel on the Xperia was also very nice but I really don't mind the feel of the zenfonr
- the camera on the Xperia was very good, but I just didn't feel like I was amazed by the point and click usage. Which I know it was really aimed for Pro users, but still....
- for the Zenfone I love the feel of it. A very fast phone, great camera, I'm a big fan of the flip camera, very good selfies (more concerned about video calls as the Xperia has a horrible smoothening effect which they didn't fix)
-the led on the Xperia was very nice whereas there's not as many colours on the Zenfone
Ultimately one of the biggest factors for me is rom and gcam development. It was virtually non existent for the Xperia but I enjoy it too much to sacrifice it. Already there is a decent gcam for zenfone and havoc & omnirom are being worked on
So I guess it boils down to what matters the most to you. Both very good options to be honest!
My first cycle from 100% down to 0% (won't be doing this often). Auto refresh, mainly on wifi (95%), AOD off, balanced profile. Not bad > 7 hour SOT.
Edit: don't know why PNG screenies aren't working with attachments :/

Auto refresh rate as I said.
I'm gonna try turning wifi off and see how long the SOT is from 100%-0% using just 4G (5G is off as my carrier doesn't support it).
Might try forcing 90Hz on a separate occasion too.
5 hr 53 min SOT ON dual sim 4G only.
battery life is good. not as good as zen 6. However its a all day phone. Charges really fast. Fastest charge so far.
90Hz is noticeable.. Keep your NFC , Bluetooth and especially Location off to save allot more battery..
Overal the phone is a winner .. only major peoblem.. I cant seem find ANY info to get 4g or even 5g here in USA> I thin this phone is NOT compatible for USA cell bands.. I even brought it to att store and they couldnt ge it to work past 3g.
This battery could be better, Asus need optimize better the kernel. I have bad performance on game Genshin impact (drop frames) and bad standby, 6h it goes 3,5%, on my motorola edge plus it goes 1% with the same condition.
I had pretty bad standby at first but then I disabled all battery optimizations and got great standby. I think "Optiflex" was the cause of it. Just turn it off.

From using about 1% per hour to about 2% in 8 hours sleep. Check your APN also, I've seen some mention the phone does not use the right one automatically.
Going from the Zenfone 6 to this Zenfone 7, there is certainly a slight drop in battery endurance. The better chipset/hardware etc I don't feel explains the difference but it won't put me off the phone.
Just wish phone batteries would massively improve!

Question Official battery life thread

I have the S23 Ultra since February 3rd and battery life gets better and better.
I don't know what to say. I think this s23 ultra is faulty. I can't be at 29% battery used with over 6 hours screen on time! Light use, from 80% charge
15 hours total uptime, 8 and a half hours screen off time, gotta sleep sometime. LIGHT performance profile used and screen at 60hz cause 120hz my eyes can hardly see. It's smoother yes, but barely, battery life is king for me
All on WiFi, location on, most apps sleeping. Gobsmacked. It's beating the redmagic 8 pro that's in the household with its 6k mah battery.
I'm expecting a lot less using mobile data, surely

Got it since February 10th in the USA and I can only say battery has been great. Compared to my other phones ( coming from a pixel 7 pro and a Xiaomi mi 11 5g) the battery life is just excellent on this s23 ultra, for such a big device and huge screen size I think Samsung finally nailed it. No sleeping apps, not profile settings just plain stock and so far so good. Wifi and data on 24/7, location on 24/7, VPN 24/7 . The browser times where spent a huge time watching videos from it, almost an hour of video calling and shooting some video and photos, couple of sessions of gaming.

How much do you lose on standby? Say overnight, while sleeping, over 8-10 hours how much do you lose ?
My last check yesterday was 3 percent

Thanks, is that with WiFi data Bluetooth GPS etc off? How many hours standby did you lose 3% on?
The amazing battery life has a lot to do with the display too. It is a hugely more efficient panel.
Samsung gave the Galaxy S23 series a new energy-efficient AMOLED display
Samsung confirmed that it has fitted the Galaxy S23 line with a new type of AMOLED display that saves on power.

All on. Wifi. Data. Location. Bluetooth. Performance mode.
I'm so happy with this battery performance and am afraid to update OS when it comes out...Given the great track record of Samsung breaking things that don't need fixing, there's a high probability that the battery life will go for a toss
Had my s23 ultra since 7 Feb and consistently get just under 10 hours of SOT (most of my day is indoors on WiFi, with a 2 or 3 hours walk most afternoons in 4g)
I am running pretty.much on default settings for screen and battery - I just use my phone normally and forget about battery optimisation settings
This is the best battery.life EVER on a Samsung!
After 2 weeks with the 23u and my standard use of it i have from 85% to 30% (i never go below 30%) 4h SoT

I think it is ok. I use performance mode, all location, Bluetooth with watch, some 5G, some WiFi etc.
I mostly read on phone, scrolling...

Have you done anything specific in battery settings? Any debloating? Is this with wqhd + 120hz? Standard mode or lite mode? What's your battery settings ?

Yes I did debloat, light batter profile and battery saving (it's more than powerfu enough).
Plus I have disabled all the nearby services for smarthings find the phone offline wifi quick share etc.
I don't like having the phone always sending radio signals around for no reason

Can you give a brief list of what you debloated?
Also, android system intelligence service, is that even a necessary app? Would cause any issues if I disabled/deleted it?

Honestly I didn't track the changes, but I followed this guide

I wasn't even too much aggressive with debloating, maybe I'll go for a second round
