Everything is almost perfect... - Sony Xperia X Compact Guides, News, & Discussion

So I finally set my X Compact.
I have 6.0.1 firmware with unlocked bootloader, root with Magisk, Twrp, Androplus kernel, Xposed, Nova Launcher...
Everything is nice as z3 compact and better: battery so far, much better camera (z3c sucks...), faster system, fingerprint...more ram etc...
But 3 things I have to solve for a perfect device:
- Sound speakers: It is not very high. I would like a sound boost app working, or a system mod, but I can't find it...
- Torch light is very low. Can't find a way to modify that. Here there is a thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/x-compact/help/increasing-torch-power-root-t3637773
- Call recording issue. interlocutor's voice is usually too high and distorted... (This is the most annoing fact...!)... Software Developers says is a system issue...
That's it so far. I wonder if I update firmware to 7.1.2 can fix some. But Xposed is still not working propely on that Android version...
Hope some can help me...

Can't look it up right now but if you google it it's easy to find. You can make the speakers louder by opening up a particular system folder with root explorer. The default value for max volume is 83. Change that to 93 or 94 and you will see a huge difference. Don't recommend setting the value higher than that though because at 100 you risk blowing a speaker.
P.S. mixer_paths.xml is what your looking for. "speaker" and "headphone" are the area you want. For speaker change the 83 to 93 or 94, for headphone if it's at 15 bump it up to 20.

I found that file, but I can't find that value.
I attached it View attachment mixer_paths.xml
Thanks
PS. Maybe is it Rx1,rx2,rx3 digital volume?

Change the 84 in the RX1 Digital Volume value to a 93. Save it then reboot the phone. Been to lazy to root my compact so I cant test it myself but that should do it.

Thankyou I will try and I'll tell you!!
I wonder if I can solve the recording call issue with this file, too.
I see "voice rx gain" ...maybe if I give a minor value it does not create distortions with call recording...the issue is with interlocutor's voice only...

Side note if for some reason that didn't work scroll down a couple lines and change the handset RX1 Digital Volume Value from 84 to 93 as well. Reboot and see what happens. Just always go with small changes, especially when going up in volume. I have never taken a compact higher than 94 due to risk of blowing a speaker.
As for the voice thing you can play with values just write the numbers down in case it doesn't work out so you can put it back to default value. Though I am not sure what distortion or loudness your getting from the callers end because I haven't noticed anything like that on mine. Granted it's still running stock though just with a flashed firmware for the fingerprint sensor.

I changed the speaker value only. I think it works. Speaker volume seems to be louder. Now it's night, I can't test correctly
Voice calling is ok. The issue is when you record the call and you listen to it. My recorded sound voice is ok, the other caller voice is distorted. But during the live call everything is ok.
Also bt calling and recording is ok.
You can try with this app: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441643

Try using Boldbeast from the playstore. I think it has a free trial version. See if that makes a difference on sound quality. Might just be a compatibility issue between that app and the phone.

Thankyou, it is a great app,too. But still I have this annoing issue... I’m very dispirited…

Hey Guys I solved my problem!!!
I just update form MM to Nougat 7.1.1. (34.3.A.0.206) and now call recording seems to be good!!!
Now I have the perfect device!!!!!!!!!!!!
(p.s. And with Genesis Kernel 1.05 installed too...)

Are you using boldbeast to record? If so what settings are you using? I've got the default settings and the recordings are so so

Coming from Z3c, and just wondering about people's predictions - will there be much continuing development for Xc? I really like this phone, and feel like it's an upgrade, but would like to see more custom stuff. What do we think: more to come or heading out? I think I read that we should get official O, correct?

There should indeed be official Oreo soon but the future for more community content is uncertain imo. There isn't really much going on about this device (when compared to other devices, of course) and I think you could be maybe better off with XZ1c.

I had 2 Z1c's over the course of 3 years, and did just about everything you can do with it, a few times over. Development has almost stopped now... You're right, though, probably the best Xperia compact phone yet, as far as development.

Actually, I meant the new XZ1 Compact device.

There isn't much done yet but it has more potential, being newer and with better specs.

[SOUNDMOD][S5_SurroundSound] UPDATE V1.3 16/11

Hi all, I have modded the Galaxy S5 mixer_paths.xml so that it will use earpiece aswell while playing music, watching youtube etc.
I found this on monivan's stereomod thread for the xperia Z (which i have) and I find it so cool that I wanted this on my wife's S5 so now I'm sharing here with you!
First of all, PLEASE DO A BACKUP OF YOUR CURRENT FILE BEFORE PROCEEDING!!
It is located in /system/etc/mixer_paths.xml
DISCLAIMER:
Everything you do is your choice, if you missing any important call or getting fired because of alarm didn't work, you busting your earpiece or thermonuclear war starts off and you point your finger at me, I will laugh at you.
I take no responsibility for your actions.
REQUIREMENTS :
-Rooted phone with busybox installed
-Stock rom (may also work on AOSP/CM, don't know try it yourself and let know here)
-galaxy s5 g900f
-users reported to work on note 10.1 and s4 also.
HOW TO INSTALL:
1. Download mixer_paths_xx_xx.zip
(Download links in download section)
(if not available request desktop version)
2. Move your stock/current mixer_paths.xml from /system/etc to any location on your sd card.
3. Unzip the zip file you just downloaded and copy mixer_paths.xml to /system/etc and set correct permission rw-r-r a.k.a. 0644
Like this:
XX0
X00
X00
4. Reboot
5. Turn down your volume before using and increase slowly to test safely.
I tuned volume values so that sound is not distorting at all kind of genres, with stock Samsung music player at full volume with no equaliser settings active.
But please be careful using this!!
Also I think S5 has much better earpiece than xperia Z or Z1, much more clear bass coming thru.
To test if this works see: Left/Right Stereo Audio/Visual Test.: http://youtu.be/dvqbq_0jZ_U
Have fun!
NOTE:
I now have made multiple versions made, to better fit everybody's needing.
I have made loud and normal versions, and I have made version with and without combined channels.
SINGLE AND DUAL CHANNEL?
I don't have to tell you guys what means loud and what means normal, but.. What means separated and combined channels?
Let's say, "RX1" is earpiece and "RX7" is loudspeaker. Those are hardware components.
Let's now say, we have an left and right channel. "RX1" and "RX2".
You might be thinking "why is RX1 earpiece and channel at the same time?"
-it isn't. Doesn't matter but read further.
Separate channel will mean left channel for example will play on earpiece (rx1 is playing rx2) and right channel is playing loudspeaker (rx7 is playing rx1)
Combined channel will mean left and right channels will both play on earpiece and loudspeaker at same time (rx1 is playing rx1 and rx2, and rx7 is playing rx1 and rx2)
TUTORIAL:
So, how to edit this to your exact needs?
Simple, open the xml file and goto somewhere around line 450. (Using 920 text editor from play store works fine)
You will see something like this ================================================================ -->
<!-- Play Scenario -->
<path name="handset">
<path name="rcv" />
<ctl name="EAR PA Gain" value="POS_3_DB" />
<ctl name="RX1 Digital Volume" value="84" />
</path>
<path name="speaker">
<path name="spk" />
<ctl name="HPHL Volume" value="20" />
<ctl name="HPHR Volume" value="20" />
<ctl name="EAR PA Gain" value="POS_3_DB" />
<ctl name="RX1 Digital Volume" value="86" />
<ctl name="RX7 Digital Volume" value="74" />
<ctl name="SPK DRV Volume" value="8" />
<ctl name="COMP0 Switch" value="1" />
</path>
<path name="headset">
<path name="ear" />
<ctl name="HPHL Volume" value="20" />
<ctl name="HPHR Volume" value="20" />
<ctl name="RX1 Digital Volume" value="79" />
<ctl name="RX2 Digital Volume" value="79" /
<ctl name="COMP1 Switch" value="1" /
path>
The thing you want to adjust are in the "speaker" section.
Rx1 and rx7 digital volumes.
Just remember:
Rx1 is earpiece in this section and rx7 is loudspeaker in this section.
Also you can adjust headphone volume , it is just beneath speaker section.
Only adjust the digital volumes, nothing else.

I have tested volume's on my wife's g900f and I think all variants have same earpiece.
If you're unsure, you can set your volume to minimum before installing this mod, and when installed slightly increase volume and see it yourself.
It will not bang your earpiece immediately, IF volume is to loud on yours you will be warned by hearing distortion.

Ive noticed for music and ringtones its amazing. However, I hear distortion for notification sounds for some reason. Doesn't make sense though? Has anyone else experienced this?
So, does this actually use both speakers to play sounds?

Do you use any volume mod?
Also, you can try lowering ring volume a step and let me know if it still persist.

I can make another version with an filter for which may or may not improve it.
Anyway I'm owning an Z myself and I'd tested this mod on my wife's s5 but when compared I think s5 has much clearer bass than the Z.
Do you use any equaliser setting or other audio mod?
If so, make them undone and test again :thumbup:

Redmi Note 4 [SD] boost output volume in general

I got the phone about a month ago and without any delay I started playing around with it flashing ROMs and what-not. The thing that I noticed across the board is that the sound volume in general is a bit low for my liking. Media volume bar set to middle sounds like low in other devices. Calls in either speaker or loudspeaker needs to be cranked up all the way to be properly heard. In case of loud speaker you actually need to have the phone right next to you otherwise no game.
The MTK version owners are lucky enough to have that extremely useful engineering mode where they can simply go and boost the volume. And the question here is: How can we do the same?
I am not talking about viper4android or other mods that make sound, sound better. I want to raise the actual throughput of the sound output devices.
I know that editing the mixer_paths.xml can get the effect I want. Though I would like to get some proper advice on what to change in there to get the expected effect.
Before going there though, is there something similar to the MTK Engineering mode in the Snapdragon version?
EDIT: I need to add that I am looking to boost the volume in both MIUI and AOSP Extended which is the ROM I am mainly playing around with. Reading around about the mixer_paths edit I haven't managed to find the lines many people are talking about. Any help from people who might have done said mods would be more than welcome.
Anyone?

upload your mixer_path file and I can try to see if its possible.
I have experience (lol) tinkering around with mixer_path files
edit: there is no way increase sound via an app like on MTK devices. You can request for mods to increase volume via kernel though. Try asking the devs. Sound increase is possible but it has to on kernel level
and yeah pls upload the mixer_path file

Thank you I will try once I get the chance and report back.
EDIT: So I tried the mentioned changes. Didn't copy/paste anything, directly edited the file with ES Explorer so I wouldn't have to play around with file permissions.
Tried different settings just to be sure but no change. At least at the device's media/loud speaker. Didn't test headphones and call speaker though. Have you tried these options and worked for you or the recommended changes are out of experience?
Also trying to figure out the flow in the file, I cannot see how it gets the actual values. For example in line 854:
Code:
<path name="speaker">
<ctl name="RX3 MIX1 INP1" value="RX1" />
<ctl name="SPK" value="Switch" />
</path>
we have the speaker element which should logically (and according to some guides around) be the one ruling over the speaker. The value "RX1" though makes no sense to me.

Hi, I was looking around for a suitable fix for louder volume in the heaphones. I have the Redmi Note 4 Snapdragon 4/64 global Rom uising Miui 8.2.10 Rooted. I can confirm that applying the settings mentioned works very well indeed!
Just to point out that I had to make the script changes in 'mixer_paths_mtp.xml' not 'mixer_paths.xml'. Thanks for the fix.

Hi,

v5 [AQG5][Magisk][TWRP ZIP][ROOT] DUAL SPEAKER/STEREO Sound Output Mod-S8 & S8+

UPDATE 7 : MAGISK Module updated to match latest AQG5 Firmware and Camera Version. Fixed Camera Recording Issue
UPDATE 6 : MAGISK Module updated to Template v4 for Magisk 13.x
UPDATE 5 : v3 uploaded with better balance
between earpiece and main speaker. Gain adjusted to prevent crackle. This mod best combine with Dolby Atmos Module, use around 50-60% volume.
UPDATE 4 : Magisk Module for the Mod added - for you who are in stock and still wish for OTA, use it instead so that u can have the mod systemless way
UPDATE : New zip for dual speaker with increased gain added
UPDATE 2 : ORIGINAL file added, in case people forget to back up
UPDATE 3 : BOTTOM ONLY BOOST zip added
As all we know, our phone only has one speaker at the bottom,
So just like the rest of similar mod for other phone (ex : my Oneplus 3)
Here's the file mod you can use to make the earpiece (the one near your ear) of your phone to act as secondary speaker
Download attached file,
Place it in /system/etc and change permission to 644
Reboot
OR, download the ZIP file and flash via TWRP
For SYSTEMLESS METHOD, use Magisk version zip and install it through Magisk Manager
Try and report
If you need to adjust the gain yourself, find these lines in mixer_gains and adjust the 35 or 40 value to your liking :

Come on Snapdragon variant... Get rooted, if anything, just for this!
Thanks for this mod. Been missing this since switching to s8+
sent from the R.I.C.E powered V8+
Too bad the phone has to be rooted. Used this on my s7 edge and it was an excellent mod Happy to see this brought to the s8, too bad I cannot use this
This is the reason why i root!Love this mods!
Sent from my SM-G950F using XDA-Developers Legacy app
This is the only reason for me to root the phone, just to increase the volume because those apps running in the store not worth it.

Using this - top speaker also appears to be used by Viper which is a big plus
Awesome sound mod...Root ftw!
Flashed the volume mod on Renovate ice 1.2, can't get it to work? Using Magisk & Magisk hide.
Working here with R46 Renovate and Jesse's Kernel

Any chance of a volume mod for only the bottom speaker? Dual is nice but don't wanna risk a blow out.
Excellent work , Confirmed working with NEMESIS NOUGAT S8+ 1.0 ROM..Thank you so much :good:

There is no risk of a "blowout". The earpiece speaker is a sort of tweeter so not that loud, and the bottom speaker is the loud woofer. I have used this mod for the s7 for a year and now using it for the s8 , no blowouts here! go for it mate its all good.

i had it also on my s7 edge and loved it! i would much like additional confirmations from others. would ultimately like a bottom speaker only mod with lvl 3 as zubis or dual with lvl2. prefer lvl3 with bottom only if anyone can help me out plz
I also had it for the S7 edge and worked nicely so just flashed it and will update to see if works thanks.
Much kudos to the OP for this mod. I seriously do not get, why Samsung does not enable that from the beginning - why?!?
Thanks! Works great. Pretty sweet Viper working too, I cant believe the sound coming out of my phone speakers!:good:
For anyone who need this mod in a systemless way,
Use the new Magisk Module Zip instead,
You can find it from my another thread. Link is on my signature
Cheers !
OMG!!! Man that are AMAZING!!!!!

[MOD][MAGISK][TREBLE] Dual Speaker/PseudoStereo soundmod for Le Max 2, Magisk module

Hi everyone!
With this thread I want to present to you a cool mod I created, nicely packed inside of a Magisk module.
This module enables PseudoStereo on our Le Max 2, effectively enabling the earpiece to output media audio alongside the main speaker.
Since the speakers are not positioned left and right, and do not have the same output volume, a true stereo effect cannot be achieved, hence both speakers put out both L and R channels simultaneously.
Unfortunately, the Le Max 2's earpiece speaker isn't that loud, so the effect is *really* subtle, even though it becomes a little more noticeable the higher the volume is.
I could increase earpiece gain, but that would distort the sound and probably wouldn't be healthy for the speaker itself (you can do it yourself if you want, but I don't recommend it).
I thought I would make this since I found some people around searching, like me, for a mod of this kind.
The module replaces a file inside the vendor partition, hence it has been tested by me on the following Treble ROMs: AOSP Extended, AICP, AOSiP and RevengeOS.
Does it work on non-treble ROMs? Probably not, at least for now, but you can always try.
Not working on stock ROM, neither AOSP Extended with EUI-Audio zip flashed. Working on it!
This mod can work in conjunction with other audio mods (Arise, Viper, Dolby), provided you install it first, before installing them. (Thanks to @lucian1983 for testing this)
Changelog:
Code:
- v1.2 - Fixed a problem where no sound would come out from the earpiece when an audio message was being played through it;
- Default volume is now 92, earpiece sounds a bit louder;
- Added a new zip file (namely HighVolume) which raises default volume to 100 [B](WARNING: could distort, especially with bass-heavy music)[/B].
- v1.1 - Fixed a problem where the earpiece would keep outputting media audio even if headphones are connected.
- v1 - Initial release
Hope you enjoy!

Special thanks to @Dante63 for his helpful video
I flashed it through magisk manager ,it did not work for me.also tried through twrp clearing cache but no effect noticeable.
Hi thanks for the mod. It's working in RevengeOS.
I think it would be even better if earpiece was louder at low volume. That would make it more noticeable.
Edit: Sound comes from earpiece even when headphones connected. Please fix this ?
Not working for me. Flashed in Magisk, I'm on latest AEX with eui audio zip installed and Dolby-Viper module.

Thanks for the suggestion, gonna look into it.
I completely forgot to test with headphones, anyway it's an easy fix, going to do it as soon as I get home in a few hours.

If you're on AEX it should work... Viper shouldn't interfere, but try to disable it temporarly.
Also, try to higher the volume, maybe it's just because it's not that noticeable (not much I can do about this).
Edit: just noticed you're using EUI audio, that may be the culprit, I'm going to check and see if it needs something to make it compatible.

No difference when I enable/disable Viper. Might be EUI audio zip culprit, but to disable that I must flash again dirty the whole ROM.

Can you send me the EUI audio zip file you flashed? (I can't find it)
I'll see what I can do.

I uploaded it first to Drive and here is the link. For some reason I cannot send it directly through xda app. Hope it helps. https://drive.google.com/file/d/12M0Bghy4F4TyYvaSs28-5mvZkJukaIqB/view?usp=drivesdk
Works on RevengeOS ! Even though the Ear Piece is pretty quiet.
I would suggest to make an offset fpr the Ear Piece so its earlier at max volume.
Great work so far! Was looking a long time for a mod like this! :good:

Ok, so probably EUI audio is the problem here. Going to look into it.

New Update v1.1
Hey guys, I did some modifications and it seems like headphones are working correctly now with no audio being sent to the earpiece.

Did you just modify the Mixer Paths.xml ? or how did you realise the sound output ?

Yep, it's that for now, until and if I manage to find another, more flexible way.
I raised the "RX0 Digital Volume" to 100. It's working pretty fine for my Device without any distortion :good:
Any how I will also try to find a way to offset the Earpiece Volume !

That's quite strange, on my phone with that value set above 90 the audio would distort a lot, especially with volume set mid to high.
But if it works for you then it's all good!
And tell me if you find a way faster than me haha, thanks for the help, in the meantime I could just make a second module with that value if someone wants to try...

Audio MODs for the Pixel 3?

I just rooted my Pixel 3 and one of the main reasons was that I could use Viper again. But to my dismay, it doesn't work! On top of that, I discovered that Viper has a maximum sample rate of 48kHz, which means I can't use my Sony speaker at its maximum potential of 96kHz with LDAC. So, I went looking for other audio MODs without this limitation and I stumbled upon Ainur James DSP. Now this works great, but it has a very annoying bug. Whenever a notification appears, the sound of the notification causes the music to stop producing any noise, while it doesn't even pause! Is there any fix for this, and if not can anyone recommend me any better mod?

Use a wide band dedicated EQ app for adjusting the sound to your own personal likings, it will literally help with improving your sound experience.

Thanks for your help. But as I mentioned in my original post, I wouldn't prefer Viper as it limits the sound sample rate to 48 kHz.

I thought viper was what you were looking for. Or is viper4androidFX different?
