What would happen if i put my current kernel into another similar firmware? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now i have a boring stock firmware, i installed a ROM that is awesome but didn't support my WiFi and Bluetooth, so what would happen if i put my kernel in that ROM using kitchen tool (knowing that the firmware i'm trying to modify installed properly, it just didn't support WiFi and Bluetooth, so it's not a totally different ROM)?

If the kernel you have supports your device I don't see any reason why it would not boot normally. You could always flash the kernel separately from the rom in your custom recovery.

i think that because i know that the kernel is the interface between the OS and the physical chipset components so if that's not compatible with the ROM "and" the chipset something would go wrong...that's what i think

Okay cool. If the kernel you want to use is designed to support this specific device, I don't see any reason why you can't install it through your custom recovery. Are you using TWRP?

Oh ok. If say if the ROM support is the device and the kernel does too, then wipe the device and flash away. I suggest that you take backup beforehand and also have the stock ROM handy so you can recover if something goes crazy.

well, i want to install the unity v9 kernel on my rooted phone running virtuous unity. in case something goes wrong with this kernel, i want to be able to remove it. but since you say you can only change it, how can i revert back (or change) to the kernel i had previously on my rom?
Make a nandroid backup so if you want to revert to your previous setup just restore the backup. You could also download the original kernel that came with your rom so you can flash back.

What are you wanting to adjust? The only way to adjust a kernel is ti do it when its compiled from source code.
You cant remove a Kernel. You can ONLY change it.
Make a nandroid backup of your current kernel and flash a new kernel. If anything goes wrong just revert it.

If i remove my kernel how work my arc s ?
Flashing the rom over itself (without wiping data) will keep your user apps intact and restore the kernel that came with the rom.
In the future it's a good idea to do a backup any time you flash a new rom or kernel. You can always delete old backups to save space.

Take the ROM you originally downloaded and use 7zip to extract the contents. Inside here you should find the kernel (boot.img) but not always in .img format so if you don't see it let me know.
Then use fastboot to flash this kernel to your phone, more info on that here

Sure if there is a recovery flashable .zip out there, you'll have to search for one or create your own. If you search my other threads i have one on creating flashable .zips but it will be more work than just flashing in fastboot.

The kernal I would recommend is Entropy512's for the SGP. The tutorial on there is very easy and very stright foward so you shouldn't have any problems at all. I would recommand the rom I'm currently using but the dev removed the link because he is updating the rom.

Nothing in particular's bad w/r/t the stock ROM. It just isn't most people's cup of tea. Chip's ROM is pretty cool, though I'm limited in experience (onyl stock, Eryigit, and Chip's ROMs, to date) What I like about Chip's ROM is that it's up to date and is constantly in development, the style of it (ICS-theme), and that most of the bloatware's been removed. It's very operational and customizable. Plus, many of the "hacks" that he's introduced via init.d or elsewhere (courtesy of St. Matis; I've added a few of my own and deleted a few). He's edited the framework (or gathered it from another source) to get rid of that pesky "Cell Standby" thing that shows up as a battery drain (functionally irrelevant, but annoying nonetheless) and included a number of apps as stock that many here would install anyway. Look at the thread yourself and check its features

Disinstall all driver, make a clean install of the USB driver 1.5.6, install ODIN 1.8 and thats all...You have all you need to write a custom kernel from the stock one.
In Downolad mode the player is visible just from ODIN...i remember...
Otherwise, after installing the c.kernel, from the device recovery you can do all (c.rom-stock-kernel.zip addon).

I think kitkat cm11 roms use permissive selinux permissions, so not affected. Stock CWM doesn't support selinux. However, maybe on some apps it could help
In any case, for cm-10.2 and 11, it is a good idea to have it enabled

All share cast Dongle

after I upgraded to kit kat, seems I can no longer connect to my all share cast hub .. it's discoverable but when I connect it fails .. anyone else having this problem ... I can't find anything online about a fix either ... Thanks in advance. .. rooted 4.4.2 ... JB kit kat killer 1.0 ..twrp recovery
Edit :
this is what fixed mine being on a rooted custom rom Josh beach.. k3 1.0.0 .. 4.4.2
You'll need the stock kit kat kernel an be on kit kat 4.4.2 to get all share dongle to work
1.Download teamblaze rom
2. Go into twrp do an nan back up of your current rom (back up every option) boot .. efs.. modem .. data.. etc....
3. Go back to home in twrp .. Do a wipe /factory reset / advanced wipe .. wipe everything EXCEPT internal an external
4. Go back to home twrp locate an install/flash teamblaze rom (not gonna explain how to flash a rom).. you should get successful on screen if you flashed teamblaze rom correctly.. do not reboot system just yet
5. Go back to home twrp click backup (which is now teamblaze) .. ONLY SELECT " BOOT" OPTION (this is stock kernel which is required for all share cast dongle to work properly) an swipe .. Should get successful on screen
6. Go back to home twrp click restore .. locate the rom you restored at the beginning of this thread click on it .... UNCHECK ONLY "BOOT" OPTION an the restore ... DO NOT REBOOT YET
7. GO back to home twrp click restore an locate teamblaze .. click that .. Their should be a " boot " (that's the stock kernel ) swipe and reboot
Now you should have your rom of choice with stock kernel .. . This is what worked for me .. If you f**k up your phone is not on me js
I wanted to thank teamblaze rom for having stock kernel
Please leave a comment an let me know if this works for you guys

Ah well, I could not test hence the maby. I was hoping I had found you an easier way. So for users that the app says pach needed still worth a try. But if it says not needed back to OP.
EDIT: sorry not worth trying due to the kernel. I see.

I'm on KitKatKiller with the Beastmode kernel and the Allshare Cast Dongle is working perfectly. You no longer need to be on stock kernel.

No I think it's the stock kernel I think the stock kernel is the only kernel that will work with the screen mirroring feature.
