Nvidia Shield Tablet Rebooting/freezing - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since some days my tablet has been experiencing some slowdowns, and app lock ups. But no straightout freezes or reboots just yet.
Until today that is. My tablet starting to experience even greater slowdown, and apps really became unresponsive resulting in a reboot of the entire tablet.
Now this doesn't go away with each reboot, but sometimes it vanishes for a period of time. And If I look in advandes task manager sometimes the entire thing is EMPTY. which is weird because ther should always be apps in there. Or only 2 apps.
And the memory % still seems like a good amount of ram is in use..
So what im asking is what can you advice me to do?
Also im running a custom rom (i think?) can't remember. At the very least i rooted my tablet
How can i update to new Android OS rooted? Perhaps this will fix it.
Can I do this with a backup of my apps?

[Q] Deletes particular apps without prompt

Hello.
I noticed, that after I rooted and installed DarkyROM2, my phone seems to be deleting apps without prompting.
I have downloaded those apps twice already, and now it happened again.
Apparently it happens after rebooting, but I have no idea why.
Also I noticed that my score in Quadrant Standard has declined about 300 points.
I made a benchmark because I experienced slowdowns for example leaving the messaging app, I tap the back key and it takes about 1,5 secs to return to the homescreen, I noticed this after I installed SetCPU and played a little with it. Now I have deleted it and the slowdowns still occur.
Is there any way to fix this without changing rom?
Would make sense to ask in that roms post .
jje
Yeah, I was wondering that too.
Though I thought it would be popular enough that people would know about it here.

[Q] acer a510 keeps crashing.

hi!
i tried to ask on the main topic, but no real answers.
the problem is, uhm, that my tablet crashes.
once, twice a day. no matter what application i'm using...it freezes and i must turn it off and on again. it remains still with a black and white screen, on grey sometimes, no icons or images on it.
sometimes it crashes and starts vibrating like the aptic feedback until i turn it off.
other times my apps just close and tablet still responds.
oher times i experiment lag, or icons disappear fron the desktop.
other disappointing thing is the youtube search menu and keyboard flashing and vanishing, but only in the first screen with the 3d menu.
i tried doing a hard reset...then disactivating native apps....then installing app one by one to see which one is incriminated...none of it worked.
it crashes totally randomly.
1.044 WW etc etc is the firmware version
my question is:
did you experience the same thing...it's the a510, the firmware, acer, tegra 3..anything you want to say OR...it's my tablet that is faulty?
i'm going mad with this damn stupid tablet.
i previously had an ipad, and never figured android could ever be such a pain in the ass.
if it's android, i think i'll go back to ios.
ty
It's not "Android's" fault. Your device may be faulty. Have you tried relashing your rom?
i didn't do anything to firmware.
just reset, without any result.

Try reflashing.
sent it to acer for repair...they sent me a new one as replacement.
well...it freezes the same sometimes..and must force reboot.
by power button.
my firmware is av041 1044.00 ww_gen1
maybe it's software issue as it's been replaced.
my specific apps i installed...don't know.
quite disappointing
this tab is draining my life..
can't study with fear of a freeze or crash every single instant i use it.
i'm the only one who experiences this freezes...on 2 different tablets???

Running out of RAM

Hello,
Well I have a strange and frustrating problem with my galaxy S2.
First of all I am running Resurrection Remix 3.0.9 (will update soon) with Siyah kernel.
The problem also happened with another ROM so I don't think it is related to the ROM.
The problem is that I have to reboot my phone everyday (or my phone does it by itself).
If I check the memory usage then I can see that this is pretty high. Around 80%.
Normally this is around 40-50%.
The most frustrating is that after almost a day or half a day my phone will get very slow. Everything starts to lagg.
Example: when I browse on the internet scrolling will lagg and when I type text in swiftkey the keyboard will just dissapear randomly.
Also applications where I am working in will just close spontaneously without an error like I closed it.
When I want to open an application it takes an unusual amount of time to open. It is like the processor is very underclocked.
Sometimes it will reboot when I'm playing with my phone but only when it laggs and is running very slow.
I think this problem is due to high RAM usage caused by some memory leak?
How can I find out which app is taking so much ram? I checked a lot of task manager/task killers/memory boosters etc. and none of them shows and app with an unusual amount of RAM taken.
Thanks,
Melvin

[Q] Periodically having to restart phone?

So I got the S4 a couple weeks ago. First ever Android phone. Love it but I am noticing that things run really well upon reboot, but after I've had the phone on for a couple days it starts to get more and more laggy. I notice that in the RAM section of Task Manager the in-use memory gradually increases AFTER I "clear memory." Like on a fresh boot it will be around 700MB, after a day of use it will clear to 800MB, after another day it will clear to 900MB. So somehow there are applications running that don't show up in task manager, and I think this is what is causing it.
I've done a LOT to speed up the phone. Turned off windows and transition animations, frozen lots of unnecessary apps, turned off broadcast receivers on a lot of apps for bootup... There's gotta be a way to figure this out, I don't want to be resigned to having to reboot my phone every two days.
Anyone have to deal with the same thing/found a solution?
What rom are you on?
Sent from my rooted S4 blessed with whatever the latest CleanRom version may be....

Just running S4 stock out-of-the-box

Stock 5.0.1: Looks like we got the well-known massive memory leak :/

I've noticed that Chrome dies every few minutes, (sometimes it can go 30+ minutes depending on what I'm doing.) Just yesterday when I was on KK, Chrome NEVER lost the tabs, even when I had 20+ of them.
I tend to stream talk radio/pod casts from websites, and up until now, it hasn't been a problem. This is actually a really big problem in the base Lollipop code. Is anyone else noticing this?
http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/2q6bed/lollipop_memory_leak_still_on_501/
I've rebooted my phone several times today, yet I'm at 1.2GB+ system usage, and 850MB+ app usage. I can't compare this to KK directly because I never once cared to check those metrics. This is making the phone quite unusable. I'm using the odexed stock ROM. This is fairly disappointing.
What android version is the LG update? Was the memory leak fixed in 5.0.2? Cuz I'm running bliss ROM, which I believe is 5.0.2, and don't seem to have memory leak issues.
Haven't noticed anything like what you're describing, but battery life is taking a major hit on 5.0.1. Eight hours at work on KK and the battery still had around ninety percent. The same thing on Lollipop and it's around sixty percent. This is just sitting in my pocket for all but 15 minutes or so during lunch.

From what I understand the bug persists in 5.0.2 but the ROM developer might have made some tweaks to mitigate the problem. Stock/OEM versions of 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 have this issue. My brother with a Sprint S5 is having the same problem. After a few hours of runtime, then you'll notice the home screen redrawing when you hit home... you'll notice your tabs in Chrome re-drawing as well. If you were streaming something like audio or video, then it dies in the background. People are also complaining that this happens with Google Music, and things of that nature. I haven't played around enough to see what all will close.
With bumped stock ROM, I never once had Chrome close in the background. At this point, I'm having a hard time seeing the benefits of LP over KK. A few fun things like unlock w/ BT connection, but what else? I see that framerate improved by about 20%, but didn't eliminate stutter completely from this phone. That's likely never going to be fixed, as it's a result of the 2K screen.
I also find it bizarre that I can CAUSE Chrome to die on-demand. If I'm listening to this particular podcast, and Chrome is the only app running in the background, then I go to Setttings > Apps > Running, within 5 seconds, the audio stops. Chrome dies. I see the System RAM usage drop from 1.5GB to 1.0GB. App usage stays around 800MB.
Rebooting the phone seems to help a bit, but it comes right back after I go through a few apps in normal use. On KK, I almost NEVER swiped away apps, or closed Chrome tabs. I only did that if I had clutter and I wanted things to be more neatly organized in the recent apps dialog.
Can anyone else try loading up a podcast like thebiggestproblemintheuniverse.com in Chrome/Chrome Beta, then using their phone like normal with this all in the background for a bit. Try going to Running apps and see if it kills/freezes the Chrome process.

So I went ahead and tried the above on my non-rooted / stock KK and as soon as I went into the Apps settings Chrome stopped playing the podcast and closed. I tried this multiple time and it happened each time. FYI - Am on Chrome V.40.0.2214.109.

I'm rooted, L odexed, and on the latest Chrome beta and can confirm this happened exactly as you described. Within 2-3 seconds of going to running apps, the podcast died. When I opened chrome again, it came back to that web page but had to reload it.
Forgive me if I am entirely off base here as I am not a dev,
It was noted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-watch/development/android-5-0-lollipop-memory-leak-fix-lg-t3030871
that the LG G watch suffered from the same thing, and from this git hub: https://github.com/temasek/android_...services/core/java/com/android/server/display
The dev made a patched services.jar, could this point in the right direction
To be fair, I never tried to go to the 'Running' apps while streaming on KK, because I never had a problem with the podcast stopping. It's possible that Android 'cheats' by clearing up RAM when you visit this page to make things look more efficient. That's actually kinda shady.
