Any A-Z instructions on how to install custom ROMs on RN4 (Snapdragon) for noobs? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Hello XDA,
Apologies if this doesn't belong here.
So I've been using a Redmi Note 4 for almost a month now(my first time using MIUI). Used to have a Motorola Moto G 3rd gen before this and used a Moto X(first gen) before that, so I'm used to stock android only. A lot of of my friends used to tell me MIUI is really good but tbh I'm not enjoying it at all. I much prefer the stock android experience.
I told all of these to a friend and he suggested that I try using a custom ROM. Problem is I have no idea where to even start as I'm an absolute noob about all these stuff.
So what I'm looking for is any guide/step by step instructions to installing custom ROMs for noobs like me.
Also if anyone can suggest me what ROM I should install to get closer to a stock android experience. It should be a stable build.
Thanks beforehand and apologies for the poor English, not my native language.

Hi!
First unlock bootloader (it takes 3 days because Xiaomi protection).
Then flash TWRP recovery and... Hmmm just watch this video
After that you can chose custom ROM the best one for you is LineageOS copy it to device's storage, wipe all phone data/dalvik through TWRP and install Lineage. Remember to do MIUI backup

[Q] What Custom ROM To Begin With?

First a bit of background: I bought a refurbished Nexus 7 2012 to increase my knowledge of the Android OS. I have unlocked the bootloader, rooted it, and installed SuperSU. I experimented with both the CWM and TWRP custom recoveries. I've settled on the TWRP platform and have installed TWRP Manager.
The next step I want to embark on is flashing custom ROMs. Here I'm in a quandary. There are so many choices and when I try to read up on them I find so many acronyms and argot that I can't sift through the information. So here is my question, what ROM do you recommend for a starting place and why do you think it's a good choice?
Thanks in advance... Rick

Ultimately I would say that the best ROM is the one your most satisfied with, so try them all and see what you like. Heck if you like a bunch use MultiROM to have several ROM's you can choose between. For actually starting out I would recommend trying a well known ROM such as CM12 or Paranoid Android as these are feature packed yet good for people of all experience levels including a beginner such as yourself. But don't be afraid to experiment with other ROM's for your device and find out what you like. If you go wrong you can always restore your stock ROM backup in TWRP (Do make a stock ROM backup before flashing any ROM's). And if you really go wrong you can always flash a stock Nexus factory image to easily restore your device back to working order. Overall, read about the ROM's, read the flashing instructions, re-read the flashing instructions, and mostly importantly have fun and enjoy the community. Let me know if you have any questions I'll be more then happy to help you out .

Unlock Bootloader Razr xt910

Good evening to everyone. I apologize for the grammar but I'm getting help from Google translator.
It's the first time I've written in this forum and I hope I did not have a wrong section.
I would like to ask you: there is a way to unlock the bootloader of my Motorola Razr Xt910 ICS 4.0.4?
I would like to know to be able to flash a custom recovery like TWRP and then a custom rom like Lineage 14.1.
I've tried already various methods found on the internet like Sunshine (error during package analysis), Motoapocalypse (?) and bootloader unlock support from the Motorola site (smartphone not supported).
Please help me to give a new life to my Motorola Razr!

Thank you for the answer, sd_shadow! If it’s impossible to unlock the bootloader, how can I install a custom rom? Is there any alternative way?

Damn guys, sorry that I’ve made a question already discussed and solved. From the link that I read and that you gave, the problem is much more simple and faster than I thought! Unfortunately I don’t speak well English and I’m not an expert of modding and even if I did my little research on forum before opening this thread probably I didn’t understand nothing! I have already installed the recovery Safestrap and today probably I’ll try to install Lineage. And talking about it I’d like to ask: in your opinion which custom rom is the best nowadays for flashing on XT910? Custom rom or stock rom? Thanks a lot!
Good evening guys, I resume this discussion because I would like another opinion from you. With a lot of patience and various errors, I managed to install Lineage 14.1 on my Motorola umts_spyder (which goes pretty well, except for Whatsapp notifications on the screen off) and I realized that there are no differences between Android stock and a custom ROM (I apologize for my ignorance in the previous post).
Now the problem is that I do not have enough residual space ... (833mb remaining) :silly:
So I ask you: I can reflash the Lineage on the stock slot (where the old Android 4.1 should be) and delete all the remaining slots (including slot 1 where the Lineage 14.1 is now installed)? Or could there be some problem?
I have some doubts because when I tried to install the Lineage on the stock slot the installation was not successful, while on slot 1 everything went well. But it could also be that I missed a few passages.
As usual, thank you for your availability. :good:

Redmi note 4x (SD) Help Guide for flashing from stock MIUI to custom pie rom?

Hi everyone, I want to use a Pie based ROM. Now I am using stock MIUI 9.6 Global bootloader unlocked. What would be the best procedure to flash a pie based ROM? And can I come back to MIUI if I want? What am I going to sacrifice if I flash treble ROM? I know It's a lot of questions but please try to answer it. Thanks in advance ?

If you have an unlocked bootloader, it's going to be easy. Install TWRP or OrangeFox Recovery. You will get the instructions in the respective pages of XDA. Then, take a complete backup of all partitions using TWRP/OrangeFox, back up the apps using Titanium Backup, and then get a ROM of your liking, and install it.
You are not going to sacrifice anything if you flash a treble ROM. You can revert to MIUI 10 at any point.
But do keep in mind that Android Pie ROMs are quite new and might have a bug or two.
Unlock Bootloader first
Flash twrp
Flash cusrom
Flash GApps
Flash Magisk (if you want to root)
Reboot

The posts above me has mentioned the method to flash custom treble ROM. In case you find any difficulty in flashing it, you can PM me. The procedure they mentioned are simple enough and the steps are user friendly. Take a recovery backup once you flash your custom ROM. You can come back to MIUI anytime you want.
I had flashed ROMs for various versions including Treble ROMs. In regards to selection of treble roms, you find whichever customisation features and options you like and select them.
I find MIUI to be stable enough for daily use. In case you are a flashaholic like me then you can try all the custom ROMs and check which is stable enough for your use.
I faced a major difficulty of signal instability with custom ROMs. Fyi I am in India and the network is JIO. I found too many blank spots and lesser signal quality. Apart from that the ROMs are fluid and fast enough.

Help to install a Custom ROM (kate)

Hello all, I just bought a Redmi Note 3 Pro today and I really want to install a custom ROM like LineageOS but I feel so lost. As far as I'm aware, it's the kate variant.
Are there any complete tutorials about which steps I have to follow to succesfully install a custom ROM? Like unlocking bootloader and installing TWRP (and how to do that), but I've found many different methods and it gets me really confused, so I don't know what I should be doing first.
Thank you in advance.

LineageOS (android 13) is the best right now in my opinion.
I suggest you watch this video to get a general idea on how to flash custom Roms for our device.
After picking which custom ROM you'd like to try, please read and understand the instructions for that specific custom ROM. This will save you from a lot of pain.
And if you are ever in doubt, post your questions on the thread for your chosen custom ROM.
