How the **** do I enter recovery mode? - Elephone P9000 Questions & Answers

So after hours and hours i've finally installed twrp,
but now I cannot for the life of me boot my phone into recovery mode, everything I read from multiple sources all say "vol up + power"
nope doesnt work I just get constant flashing elephone logo.
Another said to do this and release them when I see logo, nope doesnt work I get no command,
Andother said release only the power button, nope I still get no command
And finally release only the vol up button, I still get no command....
I really don't understand how something so simple is this hard and irritating,
Please can anyone help me and tell me the actual way to enter twrp recovery mode?
Thanks

You need:
a. unlock bootloader from Developer Options
b. flash TWRP with FlashTool
c. turn the phone off
d. press and keep VOL+ and POWER. When the Elephone logo shows up, release the POWER button but keep pressing VOL+ until TWRP shows up on screen.

You're doing everything right. Your recovery is corrput. Don't ask how and why. I just got an Elephone p9000 to tinker with, I couldn't enter recovery. I flashed the stock 6.0 and it works now.

In case anyone is still looking for this information in 2019 and beyond: I got here by looking for this question for the Elephone S8, and I eventually figured out the way to do it on my device:
Hold Power, Volume Up and Volume Down all at the same time until you see the logo appear. It'll display for a long time. Then it goes dark, then it comes back, and suddenly we see TWRP booting.
I imagine other Elephone devices are similar.

Thats.. Not how it works.. Its Power button + Vol Down, the reason it isn't booting for him is simply because he did not flash the modified versions of Lk, preloader and etc, which are available on Lineage OS 13.0 thread, by flashing those files, twrp becomes bootable, it was a known issue, and doing that, allows to both boot the system and recovery properly

I was just trying to be helpful to future searchers by mentioning what works on the Elephone device that I happen to have. On mine, Power + Volume Down boots into the operating system, while Power + Volume Up + Volume Down boots into TWRP.
Google gave me this thread when I was searching for how to enter recovery on the S8, do I figured this information might at least help someone with an S8 who ends up here in the future, even if it's not the same for the P9000.

I have exactly the same problem. I can't get the p9000 in recovery or fastboot mode. Can anyone please help?
Edit: never mind, I managed.

Can't get into TWRP recovery from boot

I'm a bit of a noob at terminology and android settings so try to bear with me...
I'm running a deodexed vzw CleanRom v1.6.5 and I've downloaded TWRP recovery via gooManager. (Yes I've installed the recovery script from it.) Back when I had a stock rom, when I held the power + the volume up button it would go into TWRP recovery fine. But now (I don't know if it's CleanRom's fault) when I start up the phone into recovery mode using the shortcut the blue text would appear but it would restart normally.
My stock backup was corrupted for some reason and it softbricked my phone so I had to odin flash and go through all that rooting process again before restoring from my CleanRom backup via TWRP. So I don't really want to go back to stock, but I guess I can download a stock one if I really need to.
I can still enter TWRP by going into gooManager and pressing reboot recovery from there. Any solution to this?
I'm also on CleanRom 1.6.5 and it works for me... Vol up+power
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda premium
To get mine to boot to recovery while phone is off I have to hold volume + and menu key at the same time. Then hit the power button until it vibrates then let go of the power button. If I keep holding the power button then the blue writing is displayed but instead of going into recovery it just reboots. However if I only hit the power button and release when it vibrates and I am still holding the volume + and menu key then it will boot to twrp recovery.
Alright, I'm feeling pretty foolish.
It was a simple user error that I really hate to admit. If I hold down the volume up and the power button and keep holding down both, the phone restarts as normal. But I should be letting go of the power button when the phone vibrates, while holding down the volume up button keeps it loading into the recovery mode. Don't know why I didn't have that problem before. I attempted Travis' idea first then experimented a little without the menu button and it worked fine.
Thanks.
Glad you got it figured out. :good:

True and that is what he said he has been doing. However what if you flash something and you get a boot loop. You can pull the battery and try again but if it boot loops again you will need to be able to get to your recovery with a non booting phone. That is why it is important to know how to boot the phone into recovery with out the need of any apps.

Precisely my thought process. I knew that at some time I'm bound to softbrick my phone again and I needed to boot recovery from startup.

LG G5 can't boot into recovery.

Hey everyone (Again),
So i managed to unlock the bootloader and everything went smoothly but I flashed my recovery i can't get into it now it comes up with an error message everytime i try to get into recovery it says ' Your software cannot be checked for corruption' any way to get rid of this or do i have to re- lock the bootloader just to fix it and get recovery working.
Thanks again.

That's not an error message, that's the message you'll see every bit if you unlock the bootloader. Do NOT relock your bootloader after installing custom recovery. Also to get into recovery (provided you installed it correctly and it wasn't erased after it booted info Android) is to turn your phone off (or pull battery) and then hold volume down & power button, one you see the LG logo let go of the power button only (still hold volume down) for about 1 second and then press the power button again and hope (never let go of volume down). It will ask you if you want to reset your phone, select yes two times and you will enter TWRP. If it actually resets your phone, TWRP isn't installed. Usually after installing TWRP you need to pull battery then use above method to boot into recovery, mount system partition and use TWRP file manner to delete come named "recovery from boot.p". You can also go ahead and install SuperSU or magisk (use magisk if you need to be able to pass safety net). Hopefully this helps you, also next time please include what model phone you have and what steps exactly you did as it's easier for others to attempt to help you.
Mines a H850 running nougat as well but thats the only thing it wont boot to recovery because when i hold down the volume down button and the power button the lg logo shows up but then after 4 seconds that google message will pop up and that gets in the way of doing the method to get onto recovery thats my problem

You have to follow exactly what I posted earlier. If you do that, it will show the factory reset screen which is you have TWRP installed, it will not into TWRP.
1) Power off phone
2) Press and hold volume down (do not let go until you see factory reset screen)
3) Press and hold power button, when you see LG logo, let go of power button for 1 second and then press and hold again.
If you do not follow step 3, you'll never be able to boot to recovery using button combo, it will just go to that message and then boot into Android.

Thanks for that! I got it working cheers
I'm actually having a similar issue too.
To clarify, I'm using a LG G5 (h830 variant) that is running resurrection remix.
I remember getting into recovery just to flash the updated modem and bootloader zips so I can fix the issue with powering off the device.
Now I noticed after doing that, I cannot get into recovery either with rebooting or with the button combo.
Thankfully I am rooted with magisk and this is probably the first time that I encountered this issue.
I don't want to further risk anything (because my phone is set up and don't want to lose any data) but would flashing twrp through the official app work just fine?

I know this is old,Just wanted to say thank it worked for me...
Been a while since I used LG and never with official bootloader unlock so I was thrown off by resetting to recovery as at first i never had the lg screen just the bootloader warning start
For those T-Mo G5 (H830) with unlocked bootloader, you will not see any LG logo. Once you see the lcd backlight comes on, immediately release the power button and press it again, all the while holding down the vol down button.
When you see the bootloader unlocked phone is unsafe msg by LG on the screen, it will already be too late and past the stage where you can boot to recovery. Simply power down and redo in that case.
(Needed to do the above as the latest Magisk 20.0 broke root and adb on H830, thus there was no way to get into recovery other than using the physical buttons. The Magisk Canary version of 20.1 works though.)

Build.Prop edit mistake

Long story short, I messed up and I regret it. I edited the SDK 2 API levels up to get an app to possibly work and didn't think of the consequences of everything else.
I was running 8.0.0 rooted and am unable to get into recovery as the main boot of android is messed up where all apps result in continuous errors and when trying to enable usb debugging in the settings, the settings crash.
If I could get into revovery mode, I can fix it. The issue though is holding power + vol down does not work. I am not sure how to get into the recovery when the v30 shows that conformity screen on boot when the boot loader is unlocked. I was able to get into fastboot mode but on that screen it says i need to enable OEM unlock. Sadly that is not working as settings crash when trying to enable.
Would anyone have any other ideas to get to recovery?
Let me know if any more info is needed.
EDIT: I do have LGUP installed and does see the device. I would prefer not to have to fully reset the device if possible. Can LGUP boot the device into recovery?
What you described (just holding power and volume) will not get you into recovery... the proper sequence (aka the "button dance") is more involved than that. If you're only holding down those buttons, then you're not doing the process... do a search to see what it is (I believe you need to release and then re-press the power button... but I don't recall, so certainly don't take my description as enough info.
You also said you can boot into fastboot - you may be able to "fastboot reboot recovery" to get into recovery... some phones respond to that.

LGUP can get you to Download mode but not Recovery.
You can boot to Recovery (TWRP) with hardware button dance.
8 sec Power + Vol-, and when it shuts off, release both, immediatly press both again (at the same time), and as soon as the LG V30 logo appears, release power and press/hold it again.
Should get you to the factory reset menu, confirm twice with "yes" (navigate via vol/power buttons), and TWRP should boot fine.
Might take a few tries to get the right timing for that

For that, remember the annoying bootloader unlock warning is part of the boot sequence, if you still have that.

@schwinn8 -
I ended up doing a clean flash with LGUP as I need my phone for work and thought this might as well be a good time to update from stock oreo to stock pie. I wish I had remembered the master reset method as that should have throw me into recovery, I was releasing and then holding both power and vol down when it should have just been releasing power and then holding while continuously holding vol down. Along with fastboot, a while back I had to reinstall windows and so not thinking things through, I did not have working fastboot drivers and didn't initially realize it.
Mistakes were made :/
I very much appreciate the reply.

If you can boot into download mode, then it's soft-bricked and can be repaired. You can flash the correct recovery.
If you can neither boot into download nor into recovery mode, it's hard-bricked.

Probably you flashed a recovery that is broken/not for your device/not in the right slot.
Get another recovery from another site and download it with a different device and try again.
Help me
Still stuck? Just been through this with my A10, don't panic, chances are you are still good.
The phone is not actually dead, its just stuck trying to boot, has nothing on the screen and isn't responding to the key presses you think it should be.
Try this
Hold Vol - & Power
Count to 5
Release both keys (it will look like nothing happened, it actually just power cycled)
Immediately press Vol + & Power, after a second phone should vibrate then power up
Release both keys
Phone should boot into recovery again
You might not get it first try, a good method I found was to keep holding Vol - & Power right up until it vibrates and count. For me the vibration happened at 7 seconds so I released at 5 seconds and swapped to Vol + by 6 seconds.
Essentially the phone power cycles after 5 seconds of holding - & power, it stays off for 2 seconds then powers back up at 7 seconds. You are trying to get the recovery key combo pressed in between the gap where the phone is off and before it powers back on.
@dungeonseeker You are my own personal demigod. I had accidentally booted into TWRP once on a bricked A10 and could never reproduce it for further tweaking. May the universe bless you!

Question [Solved] How to get into EDL without ADB or Fastboot

Long story short, I tried reverting from LineageOS 20.0 to 19.1. I successfully was able to revert back to stock using the MSM Tool, and started the process of installing LOS 19.1. Although I downloaded the LOS 19.1 installation files (lineage-19.1-20230426), I think I screwed up because I had started following the installation instructions for 20.0. I unlocked the bootloader and flashed dtbo.img and vendor_boot.img, then flashed boot.img (all under lineage-19.1-20230426). I then booted up LineageOS's recovery but had issues sideloading lineage-19.1-20230426-nightly-dre-signed.zip, so I loaded the image onto an SD card instead and sideloaded it that way.
My device restarted, however it won't boot past the "1+ Powered by Android" screen. I'm unable to boot into recovery or fastboot mode using the power and volume keys - only the "1+ Powered by Android" screen is displayed. While the device is powered off, I've tried holding tried down Vol Down + Power, then releasing Power once the OnePlus screen appears, Vol Up + Power, and Vol Up/Down + Power. Every variation, I only get the 1+ screen. I should also note that while on this screen, it's not recognized by ADB or Fastboot. The only option I have it to power it off by holding Vol Up/Down + Power.
I'm trying to get into EDL mode so that I can use the MSM tool once again, but it doesn't seem to be recognized. While the phone is powered off, I've tried holding Vol Up/Down + then power, but it immediately goes to the 1+ screen. The device seems to power on as soon as the USB cable is connected, so I've also tried Vol Up/Down then plugging in the USB cable. Same result.
Any recommendations or suggestions would be helpful.
I had been trying to get this thing to boot into EDL mode last night and a good chunk of today, and literally 5 minutes after I posted this, I got it to boot into EDL mode.
For anyone wondering, while at the "1+ Powered by Android" screen, I was able to get into EDL mode by holding down Vol Up/Down & Power, then once the screen shut off, I began tapping the Vol Up button several times. I knew this time was different because it didn't reboot to the 1+ screen, but the screen remained off (black). And for those who aren't aware, the screen is off while in EDL mode so there's no way (at least that I know) to tell it's in EDL mode other than it being detected by the MSM tool.
in trying to convert DE2118 to DE2117 i literary entered EDL mode like 5-6 times. (A11 wouldnt flash, A12 wouldnt boot, Lineage20 wouldnt boot, When downgraded A12 to A11 it would revert back to DE2118 rather than staying on DE2117, so on so forth). Everytime solution was so simple, hold Vol UP Vol Down and POWER button till screen goes OFF. Keep holding Vol up and Vol down and plug in USB C that puts device in EDL mode in less than 5 Seconds. This is fail proof method for anyone to enter EDL method as far as I have learnt.
Maybe it's just me, but this answer sound like it's coming straight from ChatGPT

Yeah, this was one of the first methods I tried, and it didn't work for me. I don't think it would make a difference but I have the DE117 and not the DE118.

Hold volume up and down same time
Connect phone to PC while holding both bottoms
Release volume bottoms at same time after 5 seconds

Yeah, I had mentioned above that this was one of the first methods I tried, and it didn't work for me. I was able to get into EDL mode by holding down Vol Up/Down & Power, then once the screen shut off, I began tapping the Vol Up button several times. I marked the thread solved.
