Samsung ruggedized case does NOT work properly with convertible wireless charger. - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey all,
just a heads up. got a sammy ruggedized case from best buy today.
two things,
firstly, it does not work properly with the samsung convertible wireless fast charger. its intermittent. laying it sideways worked better than portrait. for me, thats as good as not working. so its going back.
secondly, its helluva thick. looking for one with a much much slimmer profile..
ordered a caseolgy vault II of amazon, hope it fits the bill. theres nothing from samsung thats anything like the OEM slim case they had for the note 4.
any other suggestions for a slim tpu case that will work perfectly with wireless charging.
UAG says on their site that their cases do. I use UAG for the kids and also had one for my note II. awesome for protection, but looks funny in the boardroom in my hand next to a Rolex... if you get what i mean. design aesthetic more for bungee diving.

I know that it says it doesn't work in the amazon listing. Let me know what you think of that caseology vault. Looking for something that doesn't look like constuction equipment as well haha.

will do.

its on the website and the packaging
yes this is no secret or a major flaw. its a highly rugged case. i posted about this in the accessories forum with photos when someone asked about it. but.. appreciate your efforts though.. :good:
why dont you post or look in the accessory subforum instead of general?

Samsung's accessory website states clearly it doesn't work with all wireless chargers. I have the old "puck" style and it does work with it. I don't have the new "convertible" one to test with.

i didnt look it up on sammys website. and its not stated onthe box. so i bought it.
it is stated on a piece of paper in the box though.
my bad, should have posted in acc forum.
we should make a list of covers that 100% work in real world experience with wireless chargers a sticky. would be real helpful for those of us looking to buy one.

I want to like the case but I'm returning it for a Speck Presidio grip as it's a bit thinner.
The Samsung is too bulky and the Speck gives just as much protection IMHO.
The Best Buy branded TPU actually fits nice. Button tactile feedback is a bit weak as are the protrusions and it's overpriced by 100% (JMHO) but it's available right now...
Waiting for Diztronic to release theirs. The first revision for the S8+ was a disaster but they fixed that with a revised one.
The phone is sleek naked but one drop is going to be an expensive mistake, most likely. So there's that.

its stated on the website of samsung that it doesnt work buddy, the reason it doesnt work is because there's a steel plate inside.

Thats odd, it works with mine just fine.

tried several times, intermittent at best.
as stated by Samsung, not compatible.
Got a caseology TPU case, it works just fine.
a good thing too, the ruggedized case was too thick to be comfortable to hold.

ya it dont work on the sammy. i have two sammy convertible chargers and the same happens on both--it starts then pauses...
now i DO have the choetech charger and believe it or not the charger seems to charge the phone THROUGH the case!!!

If you lay it down flat it will charge.

Ive done that and it does not do it reliably. It's hit or miss.
No worries at all because I dont use the military case for day to day. I use the alcantara for that...
Moreover, i bought the convertible knowing the case would not work, and i also bought the convertible to be able to use the phone/have it in portrait mode since that's a feature of the charge pad...

I have both the Samsung convertible, and slanted fast chargers. It works with a little effort in both potrait and landscape modes. Similar to my s8+ in its Lifeproof Fré case, but it won't work in portrait mode

My ruggedized case works with my older Spigen tilted charger, likely due to the padding the convertible charger has

I also returned my Samsung rugged case and switched to the Speck Presidio Grip. I don't care about wireless charging, but I thought the case actually felt less protective than the Speck case. I wanted to like it because of the kickstand and because of how awesome it looked from the back, but between the thickness and the tiny front lip, the case just seemed a bit off to me.
Edit: I will say that the Samsung case felt great in my hand. It is super smooth but still grippy. If it was a bit thinner and had a slightly bigger front lip it would be my favorite case hands down.

Anyone try the Samsung Alcantara case yet?

Yes ive had it a few days now. Its premium. Classy. Worth the price of admission.
Do you have a specific question about it?

Yes. It is nice, but it attracts pocket lint (I had the black), and I personally didn't like how it felt in the hand. It was slippery, and it made my palms sweat...I returned it.

Yep, feels shaggy to me. Reminds me of the leather iPhone case turned inside out! I'm returning it. Currently using the best buy insignia brand black TPU. Best case I have for now.

[Q] Cases with a kickstand

Does anyone know a good case with a kick stand? The most important features are just the kickstand and thinness. I know Casemate makes a great one, but it's way too thick.
This one seems okay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TPU-FoldOut...ccessories&hash=item2eb8015e60#ht_2188wt_1163
But I'd have to make a slight modification for the microphone, and most importantly, I don't know if it will fit. I'm quite weary of any of these cases that can fit both the international and ATT versions.
I bought my GS2 on launch day and ATT had 4 different cases in the store. Case Mate was the only one offered with a kick stand but it felt cheap so I opted not to get it. There was a nice leather case but none of them fit the phone, lol. Guess those will be sent back.

Thanks for the link and the info...I too got my SGSII on launch day and was disappointed at the lack of accessories and items available for the AT&T branded SGSII. I even have communicated with Body Glove about one of their cases (As I have been a fan of that one and used it on my Cappy and Infuse both) but they said they will not be producing a Body Glove case for our phone So I am going to try the above listed one and I will let you know. Maybe even post some screens and update the thread.

I bought this today instead of the leather case...
Its definitely not as bulky as I thought it would be (previous experience with the thrill and infuse pop cases) and the kickstand works great!
It also fits real nicely. The leather case seemed a little too tight and that it would require some effort to put in properly

I've had this for about 3 days now. I think its called Minisuit
Pros: Thin, light, tight fit, good kickstand, cheap, quick delivery
Cons: no hole for secondary mic, generic micro usb rechargers have trouble given cutout (stock cable works fine)
Happy enough with it for now.

I was considering that one, but hard cases are more difficult to cut the mic opening.
ny gs2 doesn't say Samsung or att on front.... only says galaxy S on back cover... is that supposed to be like that

Ok, I got the case.
Doesn't fit 100%.
The bottom in particular, but it's barely noticeable. The top mic needs to be cut out some more, which shouldn't be too difficult since it's not plastic.
Case actually looks a lot better than I expected. The kickstand is very flimsy, which I expected. Once you put the stand up, don't put any pressure on it. It's very likely to just snap off. The power button becomes pretty stiff, too.
They also ran out of minisuit keychain screen cleaners. They said if I want one, email them about how I feel my order is "incomplete without one," and they'll send one when they have more stock.
Kind of a weird way to make us word it.
Either way, I'd recommend this if you need a very sleek and thin case that doubles as a flimsy kickstand.

Anyone have past experience with Bounce models?
I love the ultra-Crystal and Ultra-oleophobic from Spigen. Have used on all my phones since Captivate.

I also ordered the Bounce case (it shipped today) and the crystal screen protectors. The Bounce case looked to be the best combination of value, looks, light weight, and protection. I'll report back on their performance once I've got everything (The screen protectors are the only item I've gotten so far)

My wife has a TPU for her HTC one and access to the buttons suck!
the bounce looks like a very light weight skin....no additional protection except the fact that it will help avoid getting your phone dinged!
I'm sure once the phone is officially out we'll be getting better cases...patience is not a virtue
OP, if you're looking at Spigen, I like the looks of this one...

Bah, they dropped the prices on the neo hybrid by $10. I'd have considered it at that price Oh well, the Bounce looks great. I'll know in a few days for sure
Spigen is really all over the road on their pricing. First the $1 promo on select items, then they jumped to $29.99, then $34.99, now down to $24.99 its fine to lower the price but they better fix the ones they charged and haven't shipped and perhaps fix those that just shipped as well. It would be good for customer relations.

Finally on their FB page they are saying if you want one to let them know. They are gauging interest, that what I read in the thread/poll about that case. Since they cannot commit to one I am looking at this instead http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=CSF2SSGT3K-DG Sedio Ledger with metal kickstand. Has magnetic closure and big S-View window. The price is right, I just wish they offered some better color options, but I might get the red/grey combo for some flash.

This looks phenomenal. Just wish it was a bit cheaper. For those who have used flip covers in the past how do you feel about them compared to regular cases? I just ordered the neo hybrid as my first note 3 case and currently have a Seidio active on my note 2 which I like(although it's a bit bulky). But I'm thinking about trying the above Seidio Ledger case when it is released. My biggest concern is it becoming a nuisance with the extra flap hanging around, especially when taking pictures or attempting to use with one hand. Thoughts? Experiences?
I had the Slim Armor View on the GS4 and I didn't find it intrusive at all, I simply flipped the cover back and used the phone as if it wasn't there. The Ledge from Seidio looks to be the same. Obviously when using the camera you won't want the cover folded back even if it does line up, the extra plastic in between the image and the lens will likely cause for crappy images.
Still its a small price to pay for full protection and a view window.

Received the Bounce from Spigen the other day and without phone inside it fits my Seidio Active holster from the Note 2 very well. The top half of the holster that the screen faces doesn't appear to be wide enough to protect it edge to edge, but sold my Note 2 on 8/31 so I cannot compare.
Yes, I am one of those that uses a holster. At work only though.
I am 6' 3" and 240lbs so I tell myself it doesn't look as obvious, but my wife and kids say otherwise

Really, really good. Fits perfectly. Protects the back as well. Magnet works with screen on/off. Only bad thing is that it doesn't stand up very well, but after a bit of effort mine stands up, while being abit wobbly. Only £8 and 100% worth it.

Received mine this morning and even though the build quality is great and it fits brilliantly, the magnet was way to weak to hold it up when the front cover is folded. even tried flexing it a bit to loosen it up but no luck at all. went back same say and ordered an ivso one instead. shame really as i had a similar one before and the magnets were incredibly strong.

I just bought one of these and sent it back. Made out of cardboard. I've had happy meals that had stronger boxes. Really bulky to hold when it's open too. It doesn't fold back evenly to hold onto. Skip that one. Go with the poetic case. Might be bulky but seems to be the only one I'd recommend.

Just wanted to say, thanks for the suggestion. I was weary due to the fact it was only $10 and was by a company I hadn't heard of. But after receiving it, it feels great. It is one of the few cases for a device I have ever had that does not wiggle slightly. It actually is a very snug and great fit to the device. And as long as you try to bend the lid a little after getting it, it will stand up perfectly. I also love the fact that it doesn't just depend on the devices magnets to keep the lid shut. It has magnets built in to the edge of the case so that the lid has something stronger to hold on to, I used to have an iPad with a smart cover and hated how it would sometime open up on its own because the magnet was weak, but I don't see this being an issue on this case/cover

Case-M,ate Barely There and Nillkin ultra thin case review.

Hey guys,
I know many are after a decent case for the Z3 and I have these 2 which I've covered in a review I posted up recently on Neowin: http://www.neowin.net/news/case-mate-barely-there-for-xperia-z3-review
Hopefully the info helps make up a decision for some of you!
Thank you for thevreview, I have just ordered one of these cases.
Appreciate the review!
Thanks for doing this review, I was kinda concerned if the case-mate barely there for the Xperia Z3 would be compatible with the official dock.
I'll be getting this case but the clear version, as I got the Xperia Z3 in mint silver on 02 and it looks so nice!
I want the clear version too just to be able to see the shiny rear glass

I noticed a commenter on the review mentioned how much he disliked cases without symmetry...I feel like I might be the same way, but I'm not sure and would really like a case that could work with the dock. So do you feel like it's not really a big deal? Still comfortable to hold on to? Should I just get over it and get the case? Haha

Aye I really don't think it's a big deal. It's slim enough and it's black so doesn't really stand out as a distraction.

No, not the cable of course! I trimmed a little bit of the case where the lower part of the magnetic connector touches. You will see it when you receive both the case and the case.
Can anyone verify that the MagnectorX magnetic cable will fit alright with the Case Mate? I just ordered it up as it doesn't fit with my current case. It looks like it will be good to go, but just want to be sure.
It's all open side that end on the Barely There so yeah shouldn't be a problem.
The MagnectorX connector adapter will fit with the Case Mate Barely There, but it is not a completely secure connection. It will charge fine, but moving the phone while it is connected could dislodge it. The angle of the connector is very steep and leaves the cord very close to the case. On this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/accessories/magtrons-magnector-x202-cable-adapter-t2919541 it appears that the Magnector cable has more clearance. From those pics, it will fit with the case with trouble. The Barely There case works fine with the Z2 dock DK36, however. I purchased that dock since the price was lower than the dock for the Z3.
I also have a Sony XSP-N1BT receiver in my car (basically a dock which turns the phone into the face plate of the receiver and it has the magnetic pins to charge the Xperia phones) and with a little bit of fiddling, the phone will charge with the Barely There.
like the barely there case because of its slim design. but still would prefer a case that covers all the edge as well. maybe the casemate slim tough will be more suitable?
Since barely there is hard plastic, will it cause scratches to the phone eventually?
is The clear's finish is it the same as the black?

There WILL be a Urban Armor Gear case!

Just got an email back from them stating they are in fact making a case for the nexus 6! Yay!
I always thought those looked really cool. I'm afraid they might be kinda bulky on a phone this big, though.

Oh **** YES!
I always wanted one of these cases for my devices, but they never seemed to support anything past Galaxy/iPhone devices. Now I know what case I will be getting for sure!
No dust covers and silly Transformers reliefs on the back that will interfere with an Aidock (and even with putting a magnetic sticker there for the airdock to adhere).
Nope : I'll pass.

The airdock is a wireless charging dock (essentially, for cars) : you lay your phone on a micro suction foam (below which is the QI coil), and it adheres to it. If your phone case is a bit rugous, the foam will not work as well, but you can just use a smooth magnetic adhesive (supplied with the dock) which'll work fine....
... provided you can lay it flat on the rear face of your case. And with such shapes on Urban Armor Gears cases, it will be a problem...

Like the imagnet dock, only it charges it too? I have the imagnet right now and use the UAG case on my HTC m8 and it works just fine.

Yeah, but we don't know yet wether there'll be enough metal in the right place inside the Nexus 6, so to do without a magnetic sticker ; and said sticker won't do with the back of such a case as the Urban Armor Gear one.
The Airdock also has a suction foam which makes magnets redundant (or at least, adhere better, which is always good in the car), but it requires glossy and (rather) flat plastic at the back of the case, which is another problem with this one...
Well... we'll see what comes out as accessories. I now hope Otterbox indeed really is considering a case, as neither Trident nor Ballistic seem interested, and as Spigen won't do a case with dust covers. So a Commuter is among my last hopes, so I can buy the Nexus 6... If I can't have a somewhat rugged case (without going to the last extremities), I'll have to pass on this phone, even though I'd really like to get it.
Was always interested in UAG cases. Will probably cop one for times when I'm doing an activity that may require a heavier duty case for extra safety measures.

Have one for my GN2 and really like it. Would definitely be interested in one for the Nexus 6!

Look what I found. Sorry that I can't post a direct link yet. You're all seasoned internet users and should know how to put that into the address bar properly

39.99? That's a lot for a case in my opinion is it worth it?
Here's the link again http://www.amazon.com/Urban-Armor-Gear-Motorola-Nexus/dp/B00OUC85MO
Thanks for linking it. I never had a UAG case before so I couldn't tell you. 40 bucks is quite steep for what amounts to a piece of plastic in my opinion. I'm thinking more of a flipcase or something with a kickstand since the phone is so large. The fact that the volume and power buttons are on the same side would suggest that they intend for it to be more of a media consumption device as well.

It is a bit pricey. I'm worried about the curvature of the back and those indentations. Almost wouldn't feel comfortable I'd imagine.
Seems like it might be awkward.

Hope they come in more colors. Never really liked the "crystal" version.

My Seidio CONVERT Case for the Nexus 4 was $50 when it was released and to this day I never had any damage happen to my phone (hell even the glass back has not been damaged at all if you can believe it!).
Fact is that when you are paying up a premium, you are paying for top notch protection. My Nexus 4 never was graced with the attention of Otterbox or UAG (hell I wish it was) but considering the attention and love the Nexus 6 is getting from Case Manufactures it is good luck for all of us on the options out there for us now!
I personally cannot wait for this case. I just hope they get it out there soon!
I'd like to see one in that olive green color they make.

My problem with the UAG for my S4 was that the high lip on the front, even with a tempered glass screen protector, interfered with swiping from the side gesture for opening the navigation drawer. The N6 is supposed to have a nice edge on the side, and I am afraid of ruining it.
For those of you wanting other colors: I just e-mailed their support and asked if they had any plans for different styles/colors. The response was a negative
Shame really, the Scout style looks really nice.
