OptimisingAppsFixer made something not fixed - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there!
Alright, let me walk you through my problem.
(there's a summary at the bottom)
I own a rooted Asus zenfone go (Z00VD). In the past, I kept on waiting on boots cuz of the optimizing apps thingy that android does sometimes becomes of dalvik. After some research, a guy suggested to download the app(title), so I did and it worked. And it had a obvious warning that I did not follow which is "if you wish to uninstall this app, press unfix".
Alright so here comes the real problem, I decided to install a custom rom (resurrection remix), which made me wipe everything then it always ran into bootloader because it can't delete the dalvik cache (permissions error I think). So, in a great genius manner, I renamed the arm folder to parm(from arm) which allowed the Android rom to make a new dalvik cache.
So now in internal storage, I have a parm folder that is 2.5 gb big and is absolutely undeletable, even with recovery. The folder is owned by root, and it's group is 01028 sdcard_r. I cannot change it's permissions, or move it to external. I was able to move it to DCIM, but am unable to move it back to dalvik folder to u fix. So now, I can only change it's name to profane languages. I have tried using pc(through mounting) , but it still stays(the pc shows deleting it, the phone shows another story).
TL;DR: folder undeletable due to it being grouped in 01028-sdcard_r (I think). Cannot change its place nor its permissions even with recovery.
I'm sorry if I made this a bit too long, but I wanted to show you the story of how I ended up here. You can ask me any info about anything. Thank you for the help

storage ?

whenever I try to install something it says I do not have sufficient storage. facebook is 3.92Mb, I have 2.3Gb on phone free for programs, 8+Gb free on phone, and 29+Gb free in card! app cache found nothing to clean and reboot did not work. I am lost!
Sent from Photon 4G code name "Neo" using XDA Premium!
Try the following:
Clear cache history and other bs is browser app.
Delete any long old or unnecessary text threads. If you'd prefer there are apps to back them up.
Go into recovery and wipe cache.
See if that helps
EDIT- might even squeeze a bit more out by using an app like sd maid to clean old logs and tombstones and other BS.
@Kenny, still no workie!! I just found it strange because if you look at my OP, I have more than enough space. I will try another app! FB is jacked anyway!
Google+ FTW
Try this and remember, no matter how much you dislike what im going to say, there's no crying in baseball (little tom hanks reference )
Menu>settings>apps>downloaded>market aka vending
Force stop, clear cache, clear data, uninstall update
Now reboot. Pretty sure that should do it and if the update doesn't immediately push let me know and ill give you my apk.

Your gonna have to send it to me because that did not work either. Only difference, before I got Orange Triangle in Notification bar, this time, I got message directly from market. I will do it from home on WiFi in a hour, why waste my data................I have WiFi here duh!
EDIT: Why am I sooooo stupid? linkedin and my news app just updated with no problem. I should have known FB was at the root of this. months ago, I was not getting my IM. They fixed that, but app keep freezing. Last month I could not get to pictures on the phone, they fixed that, but back to the freeing. Now this crap...........

Have you tried wiping dalvik cache? You can try it in CWM but check its size before and after to see if its wiping. I've seen many issues, which I'll bet a google search will validate, that if dalvik cache grows too large it's first victim is preventing apps from installing from the market.
If recovery isn't wiping you could delete with root explorer and it will recreate
What's this facebook thing you mention? I'll have to get on google plus sometime and see if any of my peeps have heard of it
Glad to hear you're back in business.
OK, I went into System Recovery and deleted Delvik Cache, no success. I went into ROM Toolbox Pro, I cannot find a Delvik Cache folder (Likely burried somewhere.)
Everything is data/delvik-cache should be deleted
The Dex's will regenerate
Just a tip, apps including old versions of google apps that are in system, but no longer used because a newer version has been installed to data, create dalvik-cache. This is why I would release a flashable zip to my rom users every time a google app was updated. Id have the script remove the old apk from /system/app and put the new one in and wipe /cache/dalvik-cache (I'll explain in a min). This kept precious /data space free before we had super phones and kept things neat and tidy. It was more my OCD than anything because id always implement a script that's moves dalvik-cache to cache (now does that path make sense?) Which resulted in more than 20mb of extra /data space that's usable.
Food for thought. I've implemented busy box run parts support on my rom but I haven't even bothered touching my scripts yet so ....

Deleted, rebooted, viewed (personally, it looked like delvik had the same s**t as before I deleted!), attempted, same message. Although everyone's help is greatly appreciated, I think its FB.................It is FB!!! Punks! I just downloaded Pirates of the Caribbean, all 18Mb with no problem!!

Well ... if other apps work then its a FB problem, not our mopho problem. Yes the dalvik cache will recreate although smaller and any cache that was left from a previously installed app that has since been removed would not have recreated.
OK, @Kenny, that explains alot. 2 quick questions, When I look at the folder in ROM Toolbox Pro, it tells me the size is "Null", how do you view its size?
Lastly, I deleted that folder and rebooted @ 6:45PM after I got off work. The date on that folder is today, but the time is 15:18, around the time I used System Recovery to clear it? I exited ROM Toolbox, went back in to assure it was gone, rebooted. So maybe the old crap is still there?

To be honest I don't use rom toolbox despite owning so I just installed it to see what your saying and mine shows null size as well. If you hit menu there's a setting you need to check to tell the app the show sizes. Checked it and still null. So my answer is I don't know. That's the longest I've spent using the app and they were all null.
Also make sure your not deleting the folder but rather the contents of it.
My preferred file explorer is root explorer. In fact, one of my most used apps and I'd buy it 100x's over. In root explorer I long pressed, selected properties and my dalvik-cache was 58mb. I did some cleanup of old apps in /system/app and moved the newer versions from /data/app to /system/app. Then I deleted the dalvik-cache contents and rebooted and gained 6mb from the dalvik-cache alone. Not sure how much room was freed in /data by moving the apps to /system but its 15mb as a guess. So by that I freed 20+ mb of space and did a quick general house cleaning.
If I redirecting dalvik-cache to cache and there's another 52mb.
hi all just got this photon used and it should have 16gigs inter space but phone says 8 gigs. is that right?

Android rescue.zip project..

So i am here with a new idea. A rescue.zip which can be used to rescue any android device which have a recovery like the famous cwm.
So here is it..
Some times we people screw up our android os like hell, and to reboot the device we usualy do a recovery flash of a new os, flash back our nandroid backup ( both on worst conditions) or even do permission fix, clean cache or dalvic cache( those in 'not that worse' conditions) . So thats are all the options we got. Rit?
Although flashing recovery backups, new roms can fix all, it will also eatup our apps, current setups, contacts, msgs, etc( in case we dont have backups) and will probably screw us. All we can do is say " WTF..WTF..WTF.."
SO here is my idea,
Find out the causes of what causes a reboot, non-boot, hang,fc etc.
And keep a zip that can be flashed through recovery, that has a solution for our problem. They may be including..
1) fix permission of system, data, and user data.
2) zipalign the apps
3) fix the default clock speed of processor
4) defragment memory
5) flash a new copy of su and busy box
6)wipe data or system or ext or cache or dalvic cache
7) flash a new copy of framework.res, system-ui.apk, settings.apk with default permissions( those files are kept in separate "custom" folder on the zip, so that end user can put their own files to that "custom" folder for flashing., the reason behind it is known to all, yap. Not all devices have them in common, every device have its own files)
These are all i got for now, pls post ur ideas and knowledge for any possible cure about any problem u faced/ cured. So that we can make it an ultimate rescue.zip that have a cure for 99% problems android os have. The rest 1% will go with a clean flash.( well we cant avoid that if we did something that bad).
So my plan is to use aroma installer( now on hard learning to find how it works). Throw in some scripts, files etc. Into the zip.
And since its not a device specific .zip file, i want to know how and why any problems are caused in any device( there are many common problems, but that is not what i ask for. I ask for device/os specific problems, and not for a problem that we can cure after booting, but for a problem that can make the device un-bootable) . So u people may help me to find those problems and cures for it. For my knowledge i have experience with wildfire and hd2.
Well i will keep this thread for a week or two, so that u can post ur knowledge, and info. after that i will release the file for u.
To the admin. Of the forum, pls keep this thread as announcement so that all can take a look.
HYPERDROID EXTREEM EDITION-THE NEW BENCHMARK ROM FOR HD2.
People could do it theirselves, but some are even stupid enough to not be able.
So it would be a good solution.
Good that you can use Aroma, but I don't think most users are able to use it, do they?
EDIT: Aroma seems quite simple... But I hope for you it's stable enough when trying to stabilise the device

Non-booting SII with CM 7.1

As of yesterday, my CM7.1 phone won't boot - it gets stuck at the "rotating arrow" blue Android for ever. It's a Samsung Galaxy S II GT-9100.
I have been running CM 7.1.0 for several happy months now, and haven't tried to install or upgrade my ROM. The last action I took before this happened is that I made a full system backup (using CWM 5.0.2.6).
That backup is present on the internal memory. I can boot into recovery, mount drives and access devices using adb shell. So I do have an opportunity to fix what's broken, if I can work out what it is.
Given that the last thing I did was a backup, I checked to see if any of the partitions were full, but none are. (None is more than 42% full according to df; although strangely, df does not show any partition mounted on /.) I tried making another backup, watching carefully - that worked fine. I tried restoring the first backup - no improvement.
I've also tried wiping everything Recovery allows me to that's non data-destructive - cache, Dalvik cache etc. It hasn't helped.
How do I work out what's wrong? Is there a boot log file anywhere which might give me a clue as to what is wrong? I've searched for "*.log" but can't find anything obvious.
I don't want to do a factory wipe if I can avoid it, because obviously that will lose all my data. If I do a factory wipe and restore just the data partition, does that put me pretty much back where I was? If so, how do I restore just the data partition? The Restore option in CWM Recovery seems to do full backups only, and only from a particular directory.
The original CM and Google Apps zips are still on the internal SD (same versions as are currently not working). Would it be worth trying to reinstall those, without wiping? Or would that be data-destructive?
Any other ideas?
Thanks!
Gerv
SOLVED - remove 0-byte data/system/profiles.xml
I tried doing a full factory reset from Recovery. This got the phone booting again, but without any of my data . Fortunately, ClockWorkMod has a "partial backup restore" function. I restored the data partition... and the phone stopped booting again.
So this is progress. I now had some idea where the problem lay. I finally found it using a laborious 5-minutes-per-cycle manual bisection technique. Delete half the stuff on the data partition, reboot, if it still fails, delete more, reboot... once you get it to boot, restore the data partition, narrow it down further. Once you find a top-level directory, repeat the process inside it.
The result: the existence of a single 0-byte file stopped my phone from booting entirely. The file was: data/system/profiles.xml.
I have no idea what that file does (there are only a few references online), how a 0-byte version of it got created, or why having it existent but empty breaks things but if it's not present everything works fine. I have no idea if anyone else will ever see this problem, or if they will ever find this forum post. But still, here's my Wisdom of the Ancients (google the phrase for the relevant XKCD comic).

[Q] Phone keeps rebooting after ROM installation

Hi,
I'm new around, hope this is the right forum...
I have a galaxy s1 (i1900) which I flashed with a new ROM (2.3.6) in the past and then installed 4.2.2 from a zip, and it worked fine for a few months.
Having the same ROM file I used before, I tried to get it back to 2.3.6, as the 4.2.2 didn't work quite well, causing some problems when trying to make phone calls / receive calls.
After flashing the 2.3.6 again, the phone kept rebooting itself. Having read a few different guides online I tried all options - wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache... then did some dramatic things like formatting /system, /cache /sdcard... I know it's not a very smart things to do when you don't know what you're doing, but I guess I felt I have nothing to lose at this point...
I also tried to reinstall 4.2.2 again and it only rebooted to the recovery mode whenever turning it on.
When mounting to USB I see no files in the device at all, only a folder called 'clockworkmod' with file called '.recovery_version' inside, and 2 empty folders named 'external_sd' and 'LOST.DIR'. It also shows it has 13.2GB free out of 13.2GB, which is weird, because the os doesn't occupy any of the capacity.
How do I save this poor device?
Many thanks in advance for your kind help!
Naama

i need help please, i f**ked my phone up...

I have a oneplus 5 with android 7.1.1
i deleted the files ''gatekeeper.password.db'' and ''lock.settings.db'' if i remember well. funny thing is that i didn't want to delete those files, it was an accident. but anyways... The problem is that not i only deleted these files that were located in the system folder, i also deleted ''gatekeeper.password.db'' files from my user folder, named ''0''.
and i f**ked it up doing this. now whenever i unlock my phone, (which btw does not have any pin or pass after deleting those files), it goes completely black. i can't setup a new password, i can't see any apps. nothing. i tried to, at least, recover the data, but even allowing android on windows and using fonedog, it does not work at all.
last thing i tried is making a cache wipe through TWRP. this only worsened the situation as now when i unlock, not only goes black, it also makes the upper tab dissapear, leaving me without more options than rebooting or shutting off.
i really, really need to extract all my data from the internal storage. i don't mind doing a factory reset after it.
