My Note 3 stuck on boot animation [LineageOS] - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I just got this Redmi Note 3 because I wanted a device with good support for LineageOS (I'm tired of Samsung...)
I have the PRO version (with dual SIM) and MIUI Global 8.0 stable (so the codename is KENZO).
I'm following this guide https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/kenzo/install to get LineageOS up and running.
For my understanding (because I have the "global" MI rom), my bootloader is not locked (but how I can be sure?).
Following the LineageOS installation guide I have installed TWRP and flashed LineageOS + Open GApps ARM64 + LineageOS su addon.
The phone is booting with LineageOS, but I can see nothing apart the boot animation (waited 1 hour, but no luck).
I have tried installing only LineageOS without GApps or su, but with no luck.
I have tried 3 different snapshot of LineageOS with no luck.
Before flashing I clean system/data/cache/dalvik.
What I'm missing?
Thanks for any help or idea :fingers-crossed:

Take a look at this article to find out whether your bootloader is locked or unlocked. If it's locked, I would suggest you unlock it officially, then try installing the ROM from the beginning. Good luck.

Thank you for the hint.
This is the result of my check (I was guessing correctly, my device appears unlocked).
Code:
# fastboot oem device-info
...
(bootloader) Device tampered: false
(bootloader) Device unlocked: true
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: true
(bootloader) Display panel:
OKAY [ 0.016s]
finished. total time: 0.016s
I have also tried the ROM Resurrection Remix, with same result... stuck at boot animation...
Any other ideas?
Thanks! :good:

if your bootloader is unlocked, you're good to go.
(you are getting bootloops because of outdated twrp/firmware)
1. flash official twrp or zcx twrp ( search in the forum)
2. download latest stable firmware+ rom+ gapps
3. if you are using miui, backup your internal storage to pc or otg drive.
4. go to twrp, wipe dalvik+data+system+internal storage
5. after that click "format data"
6. then install firmware+rom+gapps
7. reboot
note: as u format internal storage, u'll need a otg drive to flash rom+gapps. u can also use adb push commands. official unlock is mandatory. if you're not sure your device is unlocked officially or unofficially, u might have to flash miui fastboot rom, then get the permission

Before I was not updating the firmware. But this time I have updated also the firmware (with no luck )
I've installed:
twrp-3.1.1-0-kenzo.img
miui_HMNote3ProGlobal_7.9.7_Firmware.zip
lineage-14.1-20170906-nightly-kenzo-signed.zip
open_gapps-arm64-7.1-nano-20170910.zip

All the ZIP are stored on my SD card; I have also wiped dalvik+data+system+internal storage.
But I'm again stuck on boot animation (for more than 25 min).
meh...
Thank you, anyway

Recovery TWRP has been lost

Hi all,
Firstly, excuse my english...
I'm in OOS in version 2.1.3 (yea, old) with custom recovery and root. I have followed this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-x/general/discussion-how-to-root-oneplus-x-t3242830
I have recently decided to upgrade in OOS 3.x and suprised...... Impossible to boot on TWRP.

How my unlock has been lost ? My phone is yet rooted. SuperSu works correctly.
Can you tell me how it is possible to lost twrp ? I have never upgrade since my unlock.
And now, my only solution is to do a 'fastboot oem unlock' and lost my data ?
Thank you
Not sure whats going on there but easy way is to fastboot flash old stock recovery. Then install 3.1.3 with no problems. Rename file and delete .tar .
Your device bootloader is locked.
Why do you want to flash old TWRP.
To install OOS 3.1.3, you should better flash old OOS stock recovery.
But not sure it wil work.
Now, when you try to reboot recovery, on what recovery are you?
Always TWRP? None?
You should flash Oxygen one, so you can try to flash OOS 2.2.3 full rom zip to start.

Thanks for answers.
The issue is exactly that:
"Now, when you try to reboot recovery, on what recovery are you?"
I boot on stock recovery... oxygen recovery instead of twrp. Why?? How??
However I had flash my recovery with twrp last months ago and root my phone.
My problem is I do not want to lost my data... Indeed I can unlock again bootloader but all data will be lost.
How could you flash TWRP if your bootloader is locked? :-S
I don't think you ever get re-locked upon any update..
And yes, you probably have to unlock boot and lose all your user data.. Unless you don't have a backup handy of course :I
You can flash oos 3.1.1 through stock recovery no matter if your bootloader locked or unlocked.
Just download the full rom zip of oos 3.1.1 and place this zip in internal storage and flash with stock recovery. After installing oos3.1.1 you can backup your data and after that you have to go to the developer settings and allow the OEM Unlocking and now you can follow same procedure to unlock bootloader.

[GUIDE][X722] Unlock Bootloader + TWRP + ROOT

This is for x722 only
Hello, I've made this thread in order to clarify some users and to avoid possible bricks.
Obviously if you have your bootloader unlocked you don't need to unlock it again, you can check like that:
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
Results unlocked should be like that:
Code:
(bootloader) Device product name: [le_zl0_whole_netcom]
(bootloader) Device tampered: false
[B](bootloader) Device unlocked: true[/B]
(bootloader) Device critical unlocked: true
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: false
(bootloader) Serial console enabled: false
(bootloader) Serial hw output enabled: false
(bootloader) Display panel:
If you have :
Code:
Device unlocked: false
It means your bootloader is locked ofc
Bootloader unlock
Downgrade to 01D Rom
In some EUI roms you don't have to downgrade to 01D rom, but if you don't know if your rom can be unlocked or if you wanna feel more confortable and to avoid problems, is better to downgrade
-firmware WIXCNFN5802005041S (see Settings > About Phone to confirm whether you're on this firmware or a different one... if you're on a different firmware on 20s, you don't need to downgrade)
-stock 26s (if your x722 came with 26s, you need to downgrade to 01D)
you can find the file here: Download
Basically:
Attetion!!! This update is to be used in the official recovery, TWRP will hard brick, don't flash it with TWRP
Put update.zip file inside your sdcard
Reboot to recovery
Click on install update, and 01D rom will be installed
Now you can reboot to fastboot mode and unlock your bootloader
In fastboot mode type
Code:
fastboot oem unlock-go
To make sure bootloader is unlocked you can check with:
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
Now, under "Stock 20S unlocked" folder you'll have a stock rom, cleaned, unlocked and friendly to root, you can intall in fastboot by opening flash.bat
Install TWRP
Please make sure you have bootloader unlocked
Download TWRP: Download
Put phone in fastboot mode, place twrp image inside your adb folder and type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-0-zl0.img
That's it, you can boot directly to twrp by typing:
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-0-zl0.img

Download magisk here: Magisk thread
Reboot to recovery(twrp)
Flash magisk
That's it
Things you shouldn't do
Don't flash official stock roms with twrp, it will brick your phone (hard brick)
Don't flash x720 roms on x722, it will brick too
Be careful about the modems you flash, it can mess up with your bands
sk8223 said:
1. You can unlock the bootloader and flash TWRP on 20s, provided that your ROM firmware isn't WIXCNFN5802005041S, which is the stock 20s ROM, I believe.
2. You cannot unlock the bootloader and flash TWRP on stock 26s. This will cause the bootloader to be permanently locked, and you'll only have access to fastboot mode. The only way to fix your phone would be to use Qualcomm's 9008 mode and a QFIL file for the x722... which doesn't exist.
3. Anyone who downgrades their ROM to the 01D ROM can unlock the bootloader and flash TWRP. It's just that if you're on a vendor 20s ROM, you can do so without having to flash 01D. Some users may flash 01D over their 20s vendor ROM to be safe, but this is not a necessity. The 01D ROM is really only for anyone on LeEco stock ROMs. Which very few of us are on, because third-party sellers almost always load their own ROMs on the x722.

Glad that someone finally made a thread about it! Maybe you should emphasize (like in bold text) that you absolutely should not attempt to flash TWRP on Geekbuying, Gearbest, Banggood, and other vendor ROMs, because a lot of people here don't seem to understand that you absolutely have to flash Batyan's developer ROM first... I sure didn't, lol.

I'm a bit lost and a very beginner. Could I have some guidance please
EDIT: Battery is only at about 20%, think I read somewhere it needs to be a minimum of 70%. Going to let it charge up while I go to bed. I'll try again in the morning and let you know

Oh the pain, the agony. I got magisk working. Had to do a full Data-Cache-Dalvik wipe, Oreo came up clean, ran TWRP 3.2.1 via Fastboot boot then used the phone to flash itself. Then flashed Magisk installer all good.
Except that I lost data and my apps and titanium backup was on the phone so I lost that for recovery. All the legal apps came down via Google Play but still lost about 60 apps. Used titanium to access apps stored in Nandroid and got most of them back. still fixing up apps with Lucky Patcher, will get there soon I hope.

Bricked when tried to update MIUI

Hello friends,
I was using the latest MIUI 9 (9.5.6.0 I think). Yesterday I got an update to 10.1.1.0 OTA.
I had unlocked bootloader, rooted device using Magisk and custom recovery(PitchBlack).
When I downloaded the update and clicked to reboot, it went to recovery and when it completed some process I clicked to reboot to system and I am now stuck with only MI.com logo with nothing else.
I read this thread - https://en.miui.com/thread-274589-1-1.html but I'm confused now since many threads are regarding with locked bootloader. I'm unsure if my bootloader is locked again or is still unlocked. I am afraid of anti-rollback feature if it has anything to do with my device because I don't want to hard brick it.
Also can someone link from where I can download the latest fastboot ROM, since from this link - http://en.miui.com/a-234.html I cannot download and also what is the extension of fastboot ROM (zip/tar)?
Can anyone please help me with a simple guide ?
EDIT : Got the fastboot ROM - https://in.c.mi.com/thread-1703429-1-0.html

Dont flash miui global using twrp.
Ur bootloader is relocked.
Download fastboot tgz extension rom. Extract the folder. And flash it in EDL mode using miflash.
How to put in edl mode. Follow this thread.

Thanks for clarifying that bootloader is relocked.
Can I follow this procedure to flash in MiFlash - https://en.miui.com/a-234.html ?
Also can I choose "save user data" radio button instead of "clean all" to save my apps and data ?

Did u officially unlocked ur bootloader?
If u officially unlocked ur phone then check bootloader status using below fastboot command using pc.
fastboot oem device-info
If Unlock = false then its relocked.
Yes u can use userdata save option. But if device doesnt boot after mi flash then u must use clean all option.

Unlock = true . phone is safe. Its not relocked.

Just put ur phone in fastboot mode.( Vol down+ power)
And run miflash

Alright. So without EDL mode, I should follow this guide https://en.miui.com/a-234.html
Also which recovery do you use to have MIUI OTA updates ?
Do you recommend RedWolf or any other since zcx recovery is too old.

Thats correct. U can download fastboot tgz rom and follow those instruction fron official site.
If u want to stay on miui global rom then why u want twrp? U can update miui OTA using miui updater.
TWRP are for flashing custom roms. If u use twrp for flashing miui ota then u might put phone in bootloop again.

If u like miui and twrp both . then flash miui Eu ( europe) rom.
It is custom rom version of miui.
It is best and lightest. No unnecessary heavy bloated gapps. Only playstore.
Its certified by xiaomi. It is battery optimised and kernel tweaks and performance.
U can flash it using latest twrp 3.2.3. No relock of bootloader.
But first u recover ur device.

Issue with twrp

I am using Asus zenfone 3. And I have installed TWRP in it. But the phone is not booting to system (os) . And the TWRP I installed , the touch does not work for it. If I boot to system, it shows the boot logo and turns off. What can I do now?

To get rid off of TWRP you flash Stock Recovery.
I think the correct command sequence is
Code:
adb reboot
adb devices
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery <STOCK-RECOVERY-IMAGE-FILE>
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
Search for the appropriate Stock Recovery image by yourself. GIYF ...
If you instead want to re-flash Stock ROM then the correct command sequence would be
Code:
adb reboot
adb devices
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot flash-all <STOCK-ROM-IMAGE-FILE>
fastboot reboot
Try going back to stock (Fastboot/download mode/Odin, depending on the device)
Thank You!
I have successfully went to fastboot mode and flashed the stock rom! Thank you for your support!! ?? The phone is working now in the Android 7.
BUT,
now if i install twrp custom recovery, i don't know what happens, after restarting to system i cannot boot to system , it just shows the boot animation and just goes off or sometimes it boots to fastboot mode.
then if i flash the stock rom again using the sd card in the the default recovery mode after flashing that stock recovery, it works again.
Also if I install TWRP recovery, TWRP could not install any Roms ! it just says that Updater process ended with error 6 or 7 randomly.
So, how do I install custom recovery and roms in it now?

Assumed the TWRP.IMG you use is the correct one, then there is no need to install TWRP recovery, booting into it is fully enough - this will preserve device's Stock Recovery
Code:
fastboot devices
fastboot boot <TWRP.IMG>
The TWRP is booting perfectly! But if I install any zip file i.e ROM or Mods, it says that Updater process ended with error 6 or 7!!
This is the problem with TWRP.
And, if install TWRP in the phone, then restart the phone , if I restart to system, it doesn't work ,just it shows the boot animation and turns off.

This is not TWRP recovery related, but it's related to the Custom ROM zip-file you try to flash: The ROM zip-file you try to flash isn't made for your device.
