whatsapp crashing - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This morning, whatsapp suddenly started crashing, and in the log I found the following error message:
09-15 07:17:09.827 7242 7392 E AndroidRuntime: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Jid [email protected] is not fully qualified; should end with @s.whatsapp.net
I must confess I have no idea what a Jid is. Obviously it is missing one letter (ne instead of net), but why is that, and more importantly, what can I do about it?

So my son has now deleted all data and restarted from scratch, after which whatsapp resumes functioning. But I would have rather found out what this is. Strange that I haven't found the answer anywhere on the net

Yeah, reinstalling apps or deleting cache/data is the best solution for these kind of errors. I believe something went wrong while you were installing/updating the app and some files has broken. Sometimes these errors can happen because of other applications too.

common error, com.android.mms

Seems this is a common error among android users.
Galaxy S2 4G on Bell

For the last 2 days I have read and researched typical problems related to this error message;
"Sorry the application Message (process com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try agaain. Force Close"
I have tried any solution I've found, but am still unable to resolve the issue.
I can only attribute the problem to deleting a few bloatapps, namely Social Hub... as it seems everything went sideways after uninstalling.
Anyway, I have been thinking if I could reinstall Social Hub maybe that would work?
Other then that, I'm open to just about anything. I don't use apps much at all, I want minimal bloatcrap... but have performed a few hard resets in order to return to stock (minus Social Hub however!) only to create a folder to move all the Dross apps, as opposed to uninstalling anymore.
Well long winded, sorry, I have searched quite a bit, and tried many of the solutions provided... if anyone has any ideas, I'd be very appreciative.
Thanks
So after starting fresh I was registering a hotmail account and have received another message;
"Sorry the application Email (process com.android.mail) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Force Close"
This happened when I clicked on the "Email" app... I can't even open it, one click... few seconds later error message appears.
I know there are the "walk-thru's" of the hard reset, and resorting back to default... but can anyone explain how to get EVERYTHING back? The apps I uninstalled, are gone... how do I get them back?
Look through a ROM thread or two, they usually have separate downloads for the Samsung apps that they removed from the ROM for those who wish to retain Social Hub, et al. Get yourself up and running and selectively freeze items rather than delete them until you figure out exactly what you need/want.
thanks for the idea, I have actually gone a route along those lines.
I found this thread (androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2/419294-android-2-3-5-gingerbread-xxki3-update-samsung-galaxy-s2.html) on another board, it updates the phone to Android 2.3.5.
It has resolved all my issues (well so far) and to be honest things seems to look/work a little cleaner.
I'll keep your idea about "freezing" in mind now though as I don't think I will be uninstalling anything for a while. All extra apps are dropped into a Folder to keep them out of sight.
thanks

[Q] com.motorola.contacts has stopped unexpectedly - no fixes have helped!

I have an Atrix 2 (MB865), Android version 2.3.6 and I'm having this terrible problem, searched for answers, tried many things, and still no solution. I need ideas, please!
So, any time I go into one of my phone's contacts, I get the error:
"The application Contacts Storage (process com.motorola.contacts) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. [Force close]"
It's completely stopped working!
I did some internet searching, and what comes up most often is people having frozen some application (usually Yahoo Mail). I haven't frozen anything since long before it worked fine, and then, all I have frozen is Easy Battery because I want to try GreenPower without uninstalling. Anyway, unfroze them, but still no good.
Speaking of uninstalling, the only thing I have uninstalled recently is GreenPower Free after I bought the full version.
More internet searching led me to an answer that seems to help most people: replacing the files in /system/app:
blur_yahoo.apk
blur_yahoo.odex
YahooContacts.apk
YahooContacts.odex
Mine weren't missing, but I went ahead and got the Linux 2.3.6 versions of those files, copied them over, changed the permissions to 644 and the owner/group to root, power booted (battery out), and no good.
Another suggestion was renaming the two BlurContactsSync files to *.bak. Did that, then reboot... no change.
Then I saw something where someone mentioned LinkedIn app asking about syncing, and I recalled I installed LinkedIn and told it not to sync contacts yesterday. So I un- and reinstalled. LinkedIn and allowed it to sync contacts. But when I went in to my contacts... still crashing.
The last thing I did was a complete restore of all apps and data with Titanium from a backup back when I know contacts was working. Reboot. No fix.
I'm now at a complete loss. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Liam

Help Needed: Lost google play service due to low memory (logcat excess)

Hey guys.
My i777 was working fine till i started noticing the status bar giving me warning for low memory. I didnt knew about the Logcat dump getting accumulated on the phone and i kept removing the least used apps for a quick fix solution.
Sadly, the memory kept getting low and before i could find the proper solution, the phone stopped many apps on its own, and that included the google play store as well. I have solved the issue by removing the logcat dump by punching in *#9900# and memory is back up to normal level now, but still many of my apps are not showing up. They are installed alright (checked via app manager) but they are not running.
The mail client refuses to sign in as well. :|
What can i do to get the phone to normal? Need to get the missing apps and services back up and i am trying to avoid reflashing the ROM.

Apps will not open, crashing immediately

Hi All,
This morning, I was unable to start a number of essential apps. For instance, textra and dialer would crash immediately when opened. Until this morning the phone was working perfectly fine and I made no changes to it.
I first tried clearing the caches, but that didn't work. I then wiped everything but that didn't work either.
That's about the extent of what I know to do. I have attached a logcat.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_c_jp7o-X7BVHFZWGVQQlgxd00/view?usp=sharing
This seems to be what I am most commonly getting with the crash:
W/ResourceType(13499): No known package when getting name for resource number 0x
9c040102

Google Maps randomly disappears: SIGSEGV error

This problem started occuring recently, but I can't think of any particular triggers (updates or whatever).
What happens is that the Google Maps app randomly closes without any error. This usually happens when using the navigation mode. Sometimes it exits a couple seconds after opening the app, sometimes after multiple minutes.
Device: Jiayu S3 (cpu MT6752, gpu ARM Mali-T760 MP2)
ROM: Xtreme 1.3 (Android 5.1)
logcat excerpts:
Code:
--------- beginning of crash
F/libc (20534): Fatal signal 11 (SIGSEGV), code 1, fault addr 0xbaae in tid 20628 (mali-renderer)
I took two logcats, the fault address is not the same.
A bit earlier in the log I see a couple warnings like these two:
Code:
W/MALI (20534): glDrawArrays:714: [MALI] glDrawArrays takes more than 5ms here. Total elapse time(us): 8168
Code:
W/hwcomposer( 279): [JOB] (0) Timed out waiting for vsync...
Could it be a GPU issue? I have no problems when using other navigation apps such as Waze and HERE Maps.
One of the main issues is the device you are using. That chip is known to be sub par and cant handle long loads. Also as that is a China device there are a few times the satellite will kick it out and fc maps.
It worked fine before with the exact same usage scenario. I just ran this app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.into.stability&hl=nl), it has completed 200+ gpu passes with zero errors. The problem does not seem to have to do with long loads, as Maps will sometimes close after just a few seconds (after waking the device from sleep and opening Maps, no prior usage to speak of).
I forgot to mention what I have already tried:
Clearing cache and dalvik cache multiple times
Uninstalling and reinstalling Google Maps

What did the logcat say. Also with those chips you can't trust tests. These devices are known to be changed to fool most standard tests as they don't use the hardware they say they do.
But pull a logcat. Troubleshooting 101
The logcat excerpts are in the OP. Do you need the whole file (it's 1.6MB)?

That is not a big file at all but what you posted points to issues with the chip. The Mali chip is crashing. Common happening after awhile with knock off devices.
I've attached the two logcats.
One I did with logcat -I, the other is unfiltered.
The problem seems to have resolved itself, possibly due to a Google Maps update.
