Outdoor visibility (max brightness) - Xiaomi Mi A1 Real Life Review

Rate this thread to express how well you can see the Xiaomi Mi A1's display outdoors. In case you've been playing Minecraft for 18 months straight, you might not known how to get outside anymore. Well, find the door and walk through it. A higher rating indicates that it has very high maximum brightness and thus fantastic outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Bad visibility. Tho not the end of the world, as long as you don't live in the desert.

Screen Retention is a major issue.

I recently had downgraded to Stock Oreo and in Stock Oreo the Screen Brightness on max is very good i can see clearly in the sunlight but in Stock Pie Rom Brightness is little bit low i don't know why there is brightness difference between Oreo and Pie

They call it "battery optimizations"
LoL.....................

Under the sun, need to crank up to max to barely see content on screen.
Can't see anything at 70% brightness which is my default settings.

My MiA1 is since Sep 2017 and I stopped at Android 8.1.0. Screen brightness is nearly same as new in bright Sun.
I can read the screen quite well (if not better)
No problem for me. I would give MiA1 4/5 stars.

well then you must have another panel/screen because on my mi a1 outside is terrible to see anything on it, is the only major issue i have with my phone.

My MiA1 has GPS problems
I received my MiA1 on September 14, 2017 (in India), one of the first 100 released by Xiaomi (with "Made in India" embossed).
I think it's part of a batch which was made, possibly, with care and high quality components.
Don't laugh, but I KNOW THIS for CERTAIN that Quality Control is SO VARIED from batch to batch in this Current time (past year 2000), that You've to be LUCKY to have a good device.
This is the "Chinese Syndrome" for QC, HAS INFECTED the World. Xiaomi is part of this.
My MiA1 GPS receiver HAS Degraded, the signals received are WEAKER, and often lose the GPS location, particularly inside a car, train (worse), aircraft (worst). You've got to be near the window, glass cover (below car's windshield).
My MiA1 Display is still the Original and Good. I think it's a matter of luck for me. All H/W are performing well ( ex GPS).

well, my display aint degraded, since the very first day the glass is very very reflective and outdoor, during day time, is hell to read it.
the panel itself is nice, good color, no flickering or issues, no changes during time.
gps for me work fine, but, work better on custom rom compared to stock.

Not working gaps

The Honor 5X screen has excellent viewing capabilities outside. Along with a pretty good brightness it also changes the contrast when it detects a lot of light falling upon the frontside. The combination of these two make it quite easy to use in sunlight. Of course the glare might be in the way but then just rotate the phone slightly so that you don't reflect the sun in your eyes...
Screen looks good outdoor with Max brightness. The performance is also good in the dark with minimum brightness settings.

autobrightness taking time... But good..
To be fair, no phone meets the might of straight floridian sun beaming down leaving no room for vision. This phone is no different. My iphone 6 is on the same level as this phone. I cant see much out.

LOL...the reflection alone is enough ta' blind ye...
Joking aside, the Honor 5x does well outside, even though the Autobrightness setting is a little slow to compensate (can take a second to recognize it's inside a dark room or outside in full sun). Outside of that it is comparable with many flagship phones over the last couple years in that regard.
I would rate it poor outside in Thai sun with or without auto brightness, iphone 5 onward does little better when I compared .
good enough
AUTO brightness takes time to adjust but if you set brightness mutually then everything will be alright i mean its quite good
Very bright
Good enough, sometimes auto brightness does not work
Good enough. Not too hard to read outdoors.
Great for its price. Easily readable screen
Its one year later, summer 2017 though I love my L24 the display is crappy outside though I turned auto brighten off. I snap alot of wildreness pics out walking, my old iPhone 5c has better outdoor display sadly.

Max brightness helps in readability but not too much. Expected for a midrange device.
Screen readability -- good .

The brightness is fine. It's not as good as the galaxy s8 but def better than HTC10 or honor 8\ p9. I watched basketball on it the other day and it was great.
light can be set to very dimmed but the color contrast is still vivd. Good!
I have the Pixel 2 and the Essential. I think the Essential gets brighter. Very satisfied on that front.
This phone is more bright then most people think because some people don't turn off the adaptive screen option when they want to maximize the brightness. It makes a huge different without that option.

True. Having this feature turned on by default should be punished to life in prison.
I mean you make the screen the highlight of the phone, and then nerf is by default??? WTF
It's ok, but not excellent.
I rate it approximately equal to most other devices in full sunlight outdoors. You will want to shade it with your body but, having done so, it's acceptable.

Most Samsungs over the last few years have been up over 800 lumens for me, but this doesn't quite reach 600. It surprises me as it seems very bright. Does anyone else measure the lumens?
Is it brighter than note 8?
Not as bright as my N8. The auto brightness is broken, I think.
My autobrightness works well on my note 9. I don't see much difference in max brightness when in auto mode outside between the Note 9 and note 8 though. When not using autobrightness, having both phones at max, the Note 9 is slightly brighter and slightly whiter IMO.
FWIW, displaymate has rated the Note 9 brightest, most accurate, best display ever. Just like they did with the Note 8 last year, S9 this spring.... Sammy always makes the best displays, and currently the Note 9 has the best display available on any phone.

Nope. I think it's a software bug, when toggling between camera and phone sometimes the phone brightness will be brighter than before.

I think when its in manual mode, you dont get access to the full range of brightness, only after putting it into autobrightness mode. Perhaps Samsungs way of not letting the phone get too hot and igniting like the Note 7?

Its normal, all phone manufacturers do that.
This is because an automatic brightness will be able to increase brightness if it is needed for a short time (like when you are outside in the sun and use it for a few minutes) but it wears out the battery and screen so it needs to cut back after a little while. when you are on manual, the phone cannot regulate so the maximum they can allow has to be a safe level. Most phones also dim brightness when you play a graphics heavy game since temperature is death for your battery. its like thermothrottling for CPU. Totally normal and necessary. otherwise people would complain why their battery capacity is down to 70% after 6 months.
Good visibility but i prefer to have the full control of the max brightness without auto mode

Pocophone & Negative Reviews.

Hello,
So i have been following pocophone threads and reddit page and it is getting me very confused.
Many people complaining about different stuff of the phone like:
- Touchscreen lag
- screen bleeding
- Bad signal/cellular connection
- Bad screen view in sun
- Bad notification handling
- bad hotspot
- average camera
- Audio is not much
- only white color notification LED
I was wondering if these problems are hardware related or can be fixed with software update or by flashing a custom rom ?
other says that it depends on the production time of the phone, early production seems to be suffering from Screen bleeding and touchscreen lag, and such.
Thank you very much for your time.

Yet another thread about this ......
Still to clear things as per my 2 month experience with the phone. I don't go by tests but mainly how it impacts my usage of the phone as a daily drivers , disclaimer I am not a gamer
1. Debatable if it hampers daily usage as a phone, most disturbed with this are gamers.
2. Present in almost all LCD equipped phones , a very small percentage has bleed which is apparent during regular use.
3. Non issue.
4. Very legible in harsh sunlight also but changes colours to grey light brown tones. Not suitable for watching videos and why would anybody watch videos in harsh sunlight also.
5. Yes, but being improved. Presently notifications show only for a few seconds only and that too in the beta roms
6. Non issue.
7. Low light is an issue. Bright light cam is as good as comparable phones
8. By audio if u mean earpiece volume that is more than enough, speaker is good, headphone might be low if u listen at high volume.
9. Yes led is only white and that too very small.
2 and 9 are hardware and will remain as it is.
1 some says is software and some say hardware. Poco says correcting in future upgraded so take ur pick.
Apart from the above it does not have widevine L1 support yet, so u cannot watch hd or fhd videos on Netflix or Amazon .
Now to see what u get, at a very reasonable price u get a phone with latest gen SOC, latest spec ram and storage, decent camera, great battery life , Dev friendly phone supported by a thriving community of devs, specially with Sphinx 1.7 kernel doing wonders with performance AND battery life.
Disclaimer : the views expressed are entirely mine based on my 2 months usage of the phone and I am in no way associated with Xiaomi or poco or even the cellular industry and have no commerical benefits associated with this phone or promoting it in any way.
If you start nitpicking, you can do it for any phone, even the best of best have issues, the thing is how you can make a compromise with those issues. You have already made a compromise upon deciding whether to buy poco or not, that's a compromise on price, so you do assess the value proposition , affordability, features, look and feel and last but not least the bragging rights...if all these things fits your bill you buy that one. Hence if poco fits your compromise lists, just buy it or buy the one which is apt.

Yes, exactly what i m trying to do. To assess and see how i can compromise.
No phone is perfect, but i m trying to know what are the issues and if the community or custom roms fixed them if they are software based and which are permanent.
And accordingly i ll make the decision.
Thanks

Is the headphone audio output still low?
Bad signal? No way. Its very good indeed.
Very good screen bright even on sun too. GSM Arena review prove it anyway.
Audio is good, louder than most is smarts. GSM Arena again.
Camera is really good. One of the bests available.
Screen bleeding is almost impossible to see, but yes, it exists. Touch lag is bad but the fix is on the beta already.

General Mi 11 Lite 5G Review

It has been a week since I started using this phone and here is my review:
- So light and so thin. There is no other phone like it.
- Everything is very smooth and fast.
- No heating issues. I usually take a break when I first setup a phone (large file transfer, mass installation of apps...etc.) for I do not like holding a hot chunk of glass, plastic, or aluminium. I did not experience that with this phone.
- Display quality is excellent. My last phone had deltaE score of 1.4 and I assume 11L5G is probably in that area too. In other words, near perfect white balance and color reproduction.
I am not sure if I have the pentile or the other inferior display. All I know is that it is indistinguishable from AMOLED used in S10 Plus and top notch LCD screen of my previous phone.
- Camera. It has noticeable and annoying lag in low light situation. I am not talking about dark dark settings but just indoor situation. I press the shutter then it takes a photo just when I start wondering if I did not press the shutter button. Since such shutter lag is just a strange problem I never experienced on other phones, I expect it to be fixed on next update.
- Build quality is quite good and its back panel looks very premium.
- Vibration motor is excellent. This is the one area where manufactures cut corners and I am glad it is the not case this time.
- Widevine L1 even after unlock. But you cannot install NetFlix from Playstore but APK install works fine.
Overall, I am very much pleased with this phone. If you want a phone that is light and thin, you have no other choice but to go with this one. Ever since introduction of 5G, the market kept pumping out thick and heavy phones. Xiaomi too until this phone. What's great is that this phone is not just light but comes with great CPU, display, large battery, build quality, vibration motor and everything. It would've been perfect if no shutter lag issue. I do expect the issue to be fixed since it cannot possibly be a hardware problem.
EDIT: I retract what I said about display quality. It is, indeed, distinguishable from AMOLED used in S10 Plus or my previous phone which uses LCD with 441 ppi. Text do not appear as sharp as those. It is micro blurry and you may not even notice it if your sight is not so very good. I am still not sure if my phone came with pentile or delta though.
Tried Gcam 8.1 forced 4k60 on main lens, works well, Snapdragon 780G 5G version

I'm having the same issue. Last week I have ordered the Mi 11 Lite 5G and when watching videos (War Thunder for example) the lack of details in those videos is big compared to my Redmi Note 8 Pro. The screen is also slightly brighter and discoloured. That probably means we have the RGB Delta screen.

Battery life is highly subjective - everyone's usage patter is different.
AccuBattery Battery Health shows that my device has 3561 mah estimated capacity. And it gets me about 10h 30 min. of on screen time. Note that I do not game and use phone mainly for browsing stuff and apps that are not heavy.

I came from a oneplus 5T.
5T I could not get past a whole day without charging once, warp charge is still fast but still.
Mi 11 lite I can go the whole day and it charges fast if needed.
Yes, fast charge is very efficient, with 33W it's better than the OP5T with 20W.

I have searched for a solution on Internet but couldn't find a fix. BTW same problem on my Poco F2 pro and Oppo X2pro. All are global rom.
Has anyone a solution for this problem?
What about carriers AT&T won't work with it the 410 MCT won't stick on apn
Guys I'm having issues with heating. Could you check your battery temperature while doing some normal app browsing? I'm getting 33-37c
