Color saturation & accuracy - Xiaomi Mi A1 Real Life Review

I don't know how to check/test color accuracy. But side to ide with my op5, looks very dull.

i also found the colors to be pretty washed out but thought it was because of it being an lcd and not an amoled. I just installed lineage os and you can tune the colors to whatever you like. it certainly looks very different. I am satisfied now. It looks better to me than the note 2 and the lg g5 which are the only devices I can compare it to.

I totally agree. This was the single reason to my for flashing a custom rom. My display is made by Tianma and was calibrated way too cold.

After installing LOS 15.1 and voidkernel i used kernel adiutor to calibrate de colors and saturation. This is my color profile: RGB=237,238,252 Saturation=45.

Some more good profile for our device..
Who else have different configuration please share it with us

yeah will be nice people able to reach good result, share theyr screen configuration!!!

I don't think that sharing color profiles would be very useful. Mi A1 is a low budget phone with different types of displays from different manufacturers. Each display will have another tint, so you can't really compare color values. My display was very blueish, I had to reduce blue and green in order to get a proper calibrated screen.

So, maybe you can suggest software/way to calibrate good the display?

There are different ways. You could either flash a custom rom with display adjustment capabilities, like LinageOS or RR. Or you just flash a custom kernel and calbirate the screen with Kernel Adiutor.

Well, it is possible to easily root Mi A1 and then adjust the colour, so I don't see a problem here

they have not the same exact display, because both (mi a1 - Mi 5x) can have 2-3 different screen model.

Very vibrant at full brightness
i would not say its very brilliant, instead, its a good display..
its good on full brightess
Could've been better though.
easily readable outdoors, thats quite enough... but it couldve beeen beter at color reproduction.. only a bit though
Colors are not so accurate, but way better than competetors like redmi note 3
I agree
If only KCAL was implemented.
There is slighty bluish tint in display. Colors reproduction is all right. Not great but gets the job done.
Why u see bluish tint?
Colors are almost accurate. A good value for money.

Fine. Just keep on topic and everything will be on line.
Not best but definitely not bad either. In this budget definitely a good choice. Colors are vibrant and sharp
outdoor visibility is pretty good.
Accuracy got better in custom Roms.

Minimum brightness

Rate this thread to express what you think of the Honor 8 Pro's display minimum dimness. A higher rating indicates that the display can get extremely dim, ideal for reading in very dark environments.

This one... I think the honor 8 Pro can do better. At minimum brightness settings in a dark room, I think it's still bright. <-- Example of usage: Watching videos in bedroom with lights turned off. I know of phones that can go even lower in terms of brightness.
Agree, the minimum brightness could be a bit lower. It is good/ok atm.
For me, it's ok.
Edit - It should have been better

Another too bright minimum. Needs screen protector.
At nights, i use less brightness, I didn't feel pain to see the screen.

adaptive brightness is not good
Honor 8 Pro adaptive brightness is not working properly in phone. sometimes it dims to lowest value and does not increase at all in bright light condition.
manageable. most of the time I can use with minimum brightness under dark condition or night. no problem faced till date.
no problem in night or dark room
dim enough for night usage
Comfortable with eyes.

Same Display (BOE), Same Settings - But Different Colour - How To Calibrate?

We have a few Note 4X in use. The devices are all the same, same build, same software and same hardware parts.
But the Colour Temperature is different, although the colour settings are the same. The setting is on all devices in the middle: Natural or Standard (not warm, not cool).
How is it possible to adjust or calibrate, that in the setting "Natural" or "Standard", the colour temperature is on all Note 4X devices the same?

There are 2 different LCD panels installed in Note 4/4x - Tianma and BOE, they are slightly different. If you want to calibrate then root and use kernel with KCAL support.

Thx, but I know that there exists BOE and Tianma Displays for the Note 4X. As I wrote above, mine is a BOA Display.
Now, how can I calibrate - WITHOUT root?

Have been using Zenfone 5, Padfone 8, Zenfone 2 and Zenfone Selfie, all have high minimum brightness. Can some one confirm about minimum brightness on this phone compared to Redmi Note 3 (Kenzo)? It was pain to use Zenfone in the dark.

Can you answer about minimum brightness, because that (You don't want to give your significant other yet another reason to yell at you while you're reading XDA in bed. Night light just about filtering blue light, not about minimum brightness. Bright yellow light still anoying in the dark, minimal brightness will do.
yup. minimum brightness is not comfortable. I use twilight to mitigate this. Hope Asus solves this in future updates.
Or may be with some custom kernels we'll be able to do that.

Already solved with latest update. Try it.
Is there any update which improves upon this? I just want it's as dim as note 5pro.
Try switching on/off adaptive brightness and then sliding the brightness to minimum. Otherwise CF.Lumen by Chainfire is a great app.

Awful, isn't it? My phone's ambient light sensor doesn't seem to be working well either. Like it can't make up it's mind on how much screen brightness to give off when faced with different lighting conditions...suddenly getting bright and dimming for no apparent reason and not dynamically or smoothly but abruptly - even after the latest OTA update (and numerous attempts at adjusting brightness/auto brightness and trying out 3rd party apps).
I would have thought Asus would have at least prioritized this issue over the last OTAs instead of fooling around with additional bloatware. Hope they come up with a solution soon, because I'm getting all cross-eyed. :cyclops:

Question Why nord 2 does not have saturated colors

To be honest my old oneplus 3 has good colors than nord 2.
Because most of the phones today prefer to have good and calibrated colours rather than punchy and over-satured.
You still can go to the colour screen settings menu and choose "Vivid" instead of "Gentle" for more saturated colours on the Nord 2

vivid is still not look good bro. Even mi 11x has saturated. I used to see saturated colors on my previous devices so disappointed with that. For me it's like the colors are dull buts it's okay. I'll get used to it.
On the vivid setting the colours are obnoxiously over-saturated and wrong...
... Perhaps you have some sort of color-blindness? The colors are plenty saturated.

I have used many devices but the nord 2 colors is good but not great. Even comparing to my oneplus 3 nord 2 not good to be honest. The colors are preference but disappointed. There is no issues with the display it's just the software does not have that option.

According to reviews the Oneplus3 has much more worse color accuracy (too much saturated) and is less bright
Oneplus 3 :
max brightness = 420 cd/m²
color accuracy = deltaE 6.0 (normal) & 3.1 (sRGB) (less is better)
Oneplus Nord 2 :
633 cd/m²
deltaE 3.6 (vivid) & 2.1 (gentle)
Saturated fake colors are a thing from the past, today phones tend to go to accurate colors. They are less pleasant/saturated to the eye but at least they are accurate to reality.
