Galileo satellite navigation - Sony Xperia XZ1 Questions & Answers

Does xz1 support Galileo?

i just contacted sony support to ask and I was informed by the assistant who checked the white paper for the device that Galileo is unsupported. Shame.

Actually it does support Galileo sat's, just checked with GPS status app.

It should, the chipset certainly supports it. The Sony webpage doesn't list it, tho.

Device supports it too

Is no xz1-owner here who could try it with an app like gps-status or gps-data+ and post a screenshot? Both apps show if Galileo satellites are used or not.

Couldn't get lock on any Galileo satellites.
Germany here.

Circles are GPS
Triangles are GLONASS
Stars are BEIDOU

ok so no galileo yet

Galileo is supported and working. Just the galileo satellites do not appear as often other ones. So they are used rarely anyway.

I went ahead and bought the XZ1 Compact anyway and sure enough I am picking up Galileo satellites even though the Sony support assistant informed me it was not supported. Screen shot attached from the GPS Test app.

Looks like Sony now officially state on their website that the XZ1C supports Galileo: https://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-xz1-compact/specifications/

J/k, but from what I've read a LONG time ago, it'll be pretty much the same.
One developer claimed it'll be impossible. But who knows.

I was under the impression the the Thunderbolt had LTE in AOSP.....maybe not, who knows.
Also, It should help that the GNex is LTE. Given those maybe proprietary blobs (I really don't know how open Nexus code is) if its not, why wouldn't it be in relatively quickly? Yeah it's a different radio, but the interface should be similar across most of Sprints LTE devices.
EDIT: Yes, it seems the Thunderbolt does have LTE working in CM7
Edit 2: VZW's LTE has a removable SIM card for LTE Activation, I assume ours is very similar, with possibly embedded or spoofed SIM. This probably makes it at least easier to get to work because the device doesn't have to handle the authentication the the network, the network handles it.

Still not smooth.

Yeah. 4 years, and Google still can't make a smooth device.
I wanted to buy this thing, but I'm not so sure now. What's the point of such great hardware if the software can't handle it?

A gif?
Also, look up, the word "gullible" is written on the ceiling in 72 point helvetica font.
Well, maybe you could look at the gif and see that it's the Nexus 10 still having the same performance issues I had on Android since my very first Android...
Thing is, I was promised that the OS would be smooth/that it's beta software/that an update will fix it/that it's just one site.
And it's NEVER like that. Out of the five Android devices I owned (all high-end, I must add), not one didn't have any lag.
Five Android devices, five broken promises.
The device will be smooth, but I must admit that Chrome can stutter like this, If you used Dolphin or AOSP browser it just doesn't happen. Google dropped the ball with Chrome, it should have been updated faster, by making it the stock browser they are hurting the Nexus 10's reputation, this a a quote from the The Verge's review
"Not everything's perfect yet: scrolling in the browser can still be stuttery at times"
If Google had used stock AOSP browser, then perception of the device smoothness would have been much better. I cannot understand why Google released the device when a major part of the software was not bringing its A-GAME.
Are you crazy? Nexus 10 is super smooth you wont believe it, what does that stupid gif tell you? Buy the device and you will see. What a silly impression of the nexus 10-.-"
Let's wait until the device comes out before we start making claims about its performance.

To answer your question... Forever secondly, did you sign your name Jesus?
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
It's your OWN device, but THEIR soft/firmware. It's as simple as that.
I just think it's stupid. NO ONE else does this but LG, not Samsung, not Motorola, only LG. Sucks that they were my only flagship option at the time of purchase

Told ya so.
I always check the XDA forums these days before buying a device. You can't just assume that you can unlock and root.
If you really want a G6 that's unlockable you should buy an international version somewhere instead.
Is sad, but, only OPEN EU can be unlocked. My G6 is Open from Chile and i cant unlock it too. If I'm not wrong, unlock the bootloader is guaranteed by law in Europe.
Next time you buy a phone research it first.

Actually if you get a pixel on EE/Verizon you can't unlock the bootloader either

I guess our current situation is like the picture above. Will our devices be dusted ? Or will The Avengers Huawei prevail ?
Huawei and Google assured us that all current devices will enjoy continued access to Google's Framework. At the moment as in these 90 days period, we have nothing to worry about as Google will still work with Huawei in providing security patches.
So, the only issue now will be security patches, which will be delayed (not like it's on time now anyway) and the advancement to Android Q (which looks like it's totally off the menu for now).
Security patches will continue to work as Huawei mentioned and also i had a long talk with their local customer service manager here today. He assured me that all security updates will go on as per normal as they will be using sources from AOSP for the patches. Personally i feel, Huawei being a Giant, they definitely have some insiders or spies in Google and other major brands so getting the source before being announced publicly by Google seems a not as so far- fetched.
Anyway, I've used a lot of phones in the past including the S10 Plus and the P30 Pro seems to be one of the best I've used so far. Currently running software version 9.1.0.161 and most of the issues has been fixed. Colors seem so much more natural, no more stutters whilst panning in video mode, etc.
So to those who think the features outweighs the possibility of getting security updates in time, stick to your phone and don't get fed by the media as they're only fueling the current fire for attention.
Stay calm and hope Thanos Trump doesn't dust our beloved phones. :silly:
so many subjects addressing the same issue my friend, this conclusion was mentioned a gizilion times already

Question FM radio working in the 5 IV?

Some sites say FM radio chip works in this phone, others say no FM. Anyone try nextradio or other FM radio apps? $1k is a lot to spend without knowing, And none of my local cell phone retailers have the phone for me to experiment with. Any input would be appreciated!
I can try but you need to provide the link to the app on playstore...i am unable to find any fm radio apps, they are all internet ones even tho they have fm in their name.
Note my question is for US phones. The NextRadio app is online here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nextradioapp.nextradio&hl=en_US&gl=US
Yeah its US model

Well, darn darn darn! Thank you! Motorola has an app too that works on moto g stylus 5g. Seems it'd work with the qualcom chip. But alas, I would have to find time to look for the app.
Sony's radio app from November (seems to be most recent) is here. https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/sony-...elease/fm-radio-8-1-0-4-android-apk-download/
Sony's online chat is terrible, or I'd ask them directly if the 5 IV has FM radio.
Anyone else have any luck getting FM radio on this awesome phone?
Doesnt work , it just closes itself
Thanks Viper. It's a shame Sony has abandoned their roots of over-the-air radio! My old X3V was the best phone I ever had, and it included FM radio capabilities. I very much appreciate your attempts here. I did reach out to Sony chat, and the person on the other end was "looking it up", "contacting the engineers".... blah blah blah... then ended the chat TWICE. Disappointing! Thank you again. If anyone else has managed to find an app that works, please post details!
You have to understand these agents are just random people trained to use templates as responses they hardly have any IT knowledge , i mean some do but its EXTREMELY rare. Its not sony i believe as those things tend to be outsourced and i actually know one company that probably does more then half big brands in US.
